Bought.

The guy that submitted this set is a member of Macross World Forums and he also has a Legendary Defender set. Hopefully it sees the light of day too.

Coming 1 August 2018 for $290 AU

I almost bought the classic Voltron set at the Big W sale, but now I'm glad I didn't as I think I'll put that money towards this instead!

Lol, I’m the opposite. I can buy 2 Classic Voltron sets for the price of the Lego one. :)

Wow. He's expensive but I REALLY want him as he looks so good!
I'm so glad this set made it through all the stages and will be getting a retail release.

I wonder what his pricing will be like here in Oz (and if he will be released here).

So bought.

I'm still kicking myself for cancelling my SoC preorder. I will not pay those stupid aftermarket prices so am doomed to await a reissue, which is SoC terms will probably take years. So in the meantime I'm buying Voltrons left, right and centre to compensate. Unless anyone has a Soc they're willing to part with...

Thanks, thought it might be some other store. As someone who doesn't buy Lego I'm open to suggestions of best places to buy this.

TRU would've been best. But with them gone I'm not sure. There is a toy shop down my way that consider themselves something of a Lego specialist store, so I will most likely put my name down there for two (one for me, one for my son) but other than that we'll just have to wait and see.

Going to try to get to the Chadstone Lego Store on the weekend, but I swung past it for the first recently and it looks like a pretty small store.

With these sorts of sets, do they show up at the stores like Toyworld? I except they don't get to the Targets and Kmarts.

They do tend to show up at Toyworlds and occasionally at Myers

I don't view the Lego and transforming robots as a good mix although Lego and combiner robots has greater potential and it looks like this Voltron has nailed it.:)

Of Lego specialist stores in Victoria, I know of one in Frankston shopping centre near JB HI-FI. Another one is I'm Rick James Bricks in the Pakenham town centre.

They definitely show up at Toyworlds too - they've carried things like UCS Millenium Falcon, Old Fishing Store, all modulars, the Ideas Rocket thing, as well as all the smaller ideas sets like the Beatles, Dr Who, Adventure Time etc...I reckon they'll get it at some point.

Thanks all. I'm keen to pick up the set in the next few weeks and this gives me some other places to check. I'm aware of the Pakenham store but never been.

I've spent a long time saying "no, I'll never buy Lego" but this place, and combining robot lions, has finally worn me down :D

I couldn't fight it any longer and bought Voltron from the AU Lego store. I don't buy Lego because I don't usually have the space to display it - but I couldn't resist Voltron :p

None on display at Chadstone today at the Lego Store and staff were busy so I didn’t stop to ask. Am thinking I may need to order online but Lego Shop online won’t ship to PO Boxes.

This weekend I spoke a guy at I’m Rick James Bricks in Pakenham (VIC), who is expecting maybe 20 units (maybe more?) in about a week and a half, and he intimated that he expects them to sell out quickly. Estimated price is around $290.

Finally built the big barstand! He's basically a giant statue but somehow is capable of far more dynamism than UW Devastator who is far more articulated (on paper anyway).

https://i.imgur.com/zuFqG5Gh.jpg

It's a bit disappointing that the transformation is cheaty but the build quality, number of new unique pieces and the absolute love letter to the original Voltron that is the instructions (each lion gets it's own booklet and the sequence in which everything is built follows the original transformation animation) makes this set worth the hefty pricetag.

Hope this leads to more lego giant robos to follow!

I built my Voltron with my family last week. It was an absolute joy. This thing is so solid and beastly. From a distance it doesn't even look like a Lego figure.

One thing I got hung up on was the number stickers, Black Lion has his orientated upside down relative to the other lions. After much Youtube review browsing I eventually realised that this is true to the original toy so I decided to place it as shown.

The books were cool too. It was especially nice to see the original fan that propsed it and then how it was progressed by their design team.

I picked this guy up at Christmas and have been using the time at home to slowly build him up.

He's amazing! And the engineering on the feet assembly and the combination mechanisms is astounding.

I'm a little disappointed that the combination requires pulling off and replacing the legs and the arms of the Black Lion, which limits the interactivity of the combined Voltron, but is understandable given the weight of him

Would have loved a set of Paladin minifigures as part of the set though.
