FT Iron Dibots

So I'm looking to make my first 3P purchase (heaven help me). I'm looking to collect all 5 of FT's Dinobots. I just don't know if Takara is ever going to do MP versions and if they do I can just display the FT ones in Dino mode.

I've seen Trent's X Versions in hand and they are amazing. However, FT-07X Stomp is impossible to find anywhere and I understand the X versions don't get a re-run. So I can either buy the other 4 X versions or pay just a little more and get all 5 standard versions today. I actually still quite like the standard versions but haven't seen them in hand. Though if I got the X versions I could just wait out for someone to sell their X Stomp.

What do people who have these think?

The metallic finish on the x's destroy the regular finish.
If I was inclined to do so, I'd buy the x bots while I can & jist bide my time until I see Stomp. Someone somewhere is always selling.

I like the regular versions. After having Grinder, I am wtf have I been with my Hasbro one.

I don't see anything I dislike about the x versions, But it is a bit too chrome for my taste. However, it isn't bad at all. The swoop however has transparent wings which was the only thing I complain about.

I am waiting on my server. Same boat I am missing swoop blue and need to wait for reissue. Wasn't planning to buy all but the quality amazes me.
I dont see regular blue swoop anymore.

I haven't seen the X versions in hand but I love my regular ones. Just waiting on not-Grimlock to show up and the set is complete. I don't think you would be disappointed just getting the regular set. If you are up my way mate you are always welcome to check them out first hand.

Was starting to talk myself into going the X route but then realised Scoria (not Slag) has a black head but I feel he looks far more distinguished from the rest with a red head. Also, if I go the standard ones I can get Stomp (not Sludge) straight away and he is very clearly my favourite dinobot. Doh! :p

I have Server and Soar and they are quality figures. I had planned on completing the FT dinobots but it's a heft investment. Stomp and Grimlock are at least $400 for both.

As an alternative to FT also check out the Gigapower line.

If you can find a Stomp-X for a price you're willing to pay, then definitely go that route. I was lucky in that I put it out everywhere I could that I was looking for a Stomp-X and a fellow board member here answered the call :)

Maybe spend a bit of time chasing Stomp first. If you can't get one then go with the regular versions.

And I'm waiting for Ceasium-X. Scoria-X is still fairly available so I'm gonna wait and see how Caesium plays out.

So I have 4 of the 5 (missing grinder from you know where) and while I think scoria scales well height wise he's not as beefy as the others but that's just a compromise for dino mode in my opinion.

Back to your question I guess it's all about animation I like mine to be as G1 animated as possible hence I have gone with the normal version. The X version in my opinion is to keep the G1 toy collectors happy with the additional chrome everywhere and like you have said stompX is becoming rarer by the day. If you are a fan of G1 animation I would steer clear of gigapower as they have put there own little spins on the design which don't appeal to my cartoon aesthetic tastes.

I actually only run by DaiumChoc Reports or official Fantoys. if that picture is right then it wouldn't harm showing more detail of Caesium. However, I do agree and I did put a brake on Scoria to see where this figure was at as I heard almost nothing for months.

Here are some of my concerns about Perfect fusion Casesium, Fan Toys removed it from their facebook page as well. It feels like this is one of those a maybe project, just like Berserk falling off the radar. If it comes, I buy this instead.

Sadly I pre-ordered Stomp-X through PC and after emailing FansToys today they said that Stomp-X was limited and they will not be making any more. I'll be surprised if PC ever comes through .

I think Trents suggestion is a good one, see if you can find a Stomp-X and go from there. don't leave it too late though otherwise you might miss out on one of the others in the X format.

As for Scoria vs Caesium I don't see much majorly different that would make me swap my Scoria for a Caesium or even prefer Caesium over Scoria if I didnt have either, but again personal taste I suppose.

Dapto: I found looking at the different comparison pictures people posted online (as well as the price difference and supply levels between the standard and the X) helped make up my mind before ordering, since you've seen the X versions you should have a good idea about what the standards are like in hand when looking at those comparisons.
Regardless of which versions you get I think you will be happy with them, just be aware that since the X's arent getting reissued it would be better to get them asap as prices will only go up.

Correct. No extra chrome, just replace the grey plastic with painted silver.

The transformation is some kind of simple and sturdy. I just like how everything is placed. To me this is a masterpiece.

I just bought a regular Blue Soar yesterday on ebay. It was more expensive than any of the X versions I bought but cheaper than the few alternative sources. Someone on TFW asked the owner of FT in June whether Blue Soar would be reissued and he said there was no plans since they needed a minimum run of 1,000 units to do it. So I thought bugger it I might as well pay a premium for it now.

The X-Grinders are probably going to end up like the X-Stomps.

I agree with your thoughts on Caesium. He's fractionally taller than Grinder which doesn't really work for me. Still waiting for all five of the regular versions to arrive. But regardless, Scoria is my favourite of the 4 X Dinos I have in hand.

Scoria's actually about half a head shorter than Grinder. His shoulders are also well below Sever and Grinder. This works for me.

Ok Grinder is doing my head in. To people who have it, when I'm pulling out the tail from the inside the legs to transform to Dino mode, it gets caught on the bottom bit of plastic. I was able to pull out the tail from the left leg last night but noticed now that I've taken off a little bit of chrome on the end edge of the largest tail piece. The same thing will happen with the right leg so I haven't forced that one.

Is this an issue that anyone else has had? Mine doesn't appear to be misassembled, it just looks like there is no clearance. :confused:

The more I look at this, I think I'm just going to have to shave back the plastic on the leg a bit to provide the clearance. Not impressed that I would have to do this on a $250 toy.

Normally they will look at it and send you an entire tail assembly if it is a fault.

I don't have any issues on the tail, I accidentally dropped Grinder and 1 foot to the ground and the head top popped off, nothing broken. still solid.

I had a faulty Willis head previously, ad fan toys sent two replacement head to me.

Also, did you have the qc sticker on the toy? It be hard to believe yours have it and the toy had some fault. The tail is normally protected and paper wrapped when brand new out from the box.

Overall, as a NON Dinobot fan, I am actually enjoying these a lot more my entire car mp collection, yes every single car bot can't beat the fun I am having with these guys.

I will get in touch with Fans Toys. I bought it from Action Robo so should be covered well there. I just wanted to check if this is a known issue with the figure. So yours doesn't rub on anything as it is unpacked from the inside leg? Once I get the regular Grinder I can compare it to the X that I'm having the issue with.

So FT quickly replied to my email and said to try loosening the screw to give the tail more clearance. I'll give that a go, hopefully I can get it to work satisfactorily. Strange that everything is so tight as you described.

I had my Soar (Swoop for two days now)

Funny enough, I have no issues with the gold clips on its knee. Doesn't feel is going to break or anything, so I intend to keep using it till something actually breaks, (if it anint broken, dont fix it)

I altered the Soar's head that came with Grinder box and it looked more natural feel.

So far the feet seems to be a ted loose for my liking and I was surprised that was not on ratchet.

Some down points, the rear (bending part) of the knee may rub against the rear part of the legs causing paint wear, pretty minor concerns for me.

The stand could have more flexibility in height adjustments and angle. > more like Gundam display stands

In my humble opinion, Fan Toys still done a great job. 7.5/10 for this dinobot.

In bird mode it looks magnificent, I think it looks better in Chrome wings but I havent had the chance to change them.

Surely you jest good sir. If not you are putting far too much faith in a little green sticker you can buy on eBay. My Grinder had one of those stickers and it didn't have a tail. Like when you open up both legs to fold out the tail, they. were. empty.

Fortunately I have a tail on the way but yeah, those QC stickers aren't worth the paper they're printed on.

I concur, finally transformed my Grinder X to Dino mode and it is glorious! I prefer it over the bot mode, as good as that is.

I sorted out the issue with getting the tail pieces out from the leg by loosening the screw and pulling the tail out a bit as suggested by FT. Now I can unpack the tail without scratching the chrome. Thankfully the tiny bit of chrome I scratched on one tail piece can't be seen in either mode because it's on the underside of the tail in Dino mode.

Also looks like I may have secured Stomp X. It's a big overpay but will complete my X set. :D

So I transformed Sever tonight to Dino mode for the first time. Another nice transformation and he looks great.

I'm seeing UltraMarginal's earlier point about tight tolerances. But I think some of this is due to screws being tightened too much at the factory. My screws on the arm pieces were too tight, which led to some scuffing of the chrome on the hind legs as I was swinging the arm pieces through. I've loosened those now but will be extra vigilant whenever things look too tight to loosen screws. That would be only criticism so far with these figures.

But overall I'm very happy I got these.

And yes I do love it but also to be fair I see some issues.

Things that I didn't like, he might be a bit short but thats because he was the initial dinobot made. He doesn't look too short for the matter and he will definitely pass well scaled with the rest.

The sword, damn, why cant they do a cross grip? instead the handle blocks its movement.

Shoulders can be a bit more bulk which is what Cesium is. But overall very good.

There are complaints about it being longish but when I compare to Server its length match which makes it well balance.

I might buy Cesium but is one of those if cheap conditions. My main issue is he stands way taller than all the dinobots, and you can tell by the video that he is on A stance pose making Grinder look equal but is not.

Scoria looks very nice with the face replacement from Grinder. Down points are no red horns, no black head to silver face like PF has the option.

This is a tough call to be honest, If you take PF-01 then you need to shorten it by posing it. But everything about PF-01 looks right. Scoria does the job. I am quite happy with it as you have Soar and Server who are not very tall so he fits well overall.

My Scoria X is missing it's Dino jaw and the little foot piece that swings upwards is inexplicably just sitting on top of the pin rather than fitting around the pin (so it's just a loose piece). I've tried pulling the gold foot piece apart to see if I can fix it up but it's not happening. WTF? Not happy!:mad:

I only realised this now when I finally got some time to transform it. I bought it from Action Robo, I will email both them and Fans Toys support to work out how to resolve this.

But yes fantoys will replace faulty items.

My gripe about fantoys Dinis is their fix are in other dinobots.
Meaning you are forced to buy grinder to fix soar.

Fans Toys replied quickly saying they can send out the jaw piece but don't have replacement legs so I have to pop the pin to put the foot piece in. I've never done this, don't have a small enough screwdriver and don't want to wreck the gold finish trying so have asked Action Robo to send a replacement. Hopefully Action Robo will oblige.

Yeh once I've got part B of FT-20 Terminus Giganticus I'll be done with FT and 3P. My regular Scoria has no chrome on the jaw and I've broken the knee of regular Soar. Was trying to transform it to bird mode and one of the knee joints was so tight I couldn't lock the leg into its back. Disassembled it and it was a very tight spring. When I tried to put it all back together I snapped one of the silver knee pieces!

I've asked FT to help me out with replacement parts but on almost every one of these figures I've had some sort of QC issue. They look great but I'm sick of the aggravation.

I will say this about FT, their after sales service is excellent. They've been replying to my emails today and have confirmed they can send the parts needed for regular Scoria and Soar. So that's a relief. They just need to confirm they have the missing jaw for Scoria X.

I never did get the new replacement arm parts for Scoria (meant to order some online and forgot) and while mine arent too bad they are still a little loose so I'd be interested in replacing them if I can find out where to get them or who to talk to

I been playing the fantoys quite regularly so for me soar is the weakest.

Yeh once I've got part B of FT-20 Terminus Giganticus I'll be done with FT and 3P. My regular Scoria has no chrome on the jaw and I've broken the knee of regular Soar. Was trying to transform it to bird mode and one of the knee joints was so tight I couldn't lock the leg into its back. Disassembled it and it was a very tight spring. When I tried to put it all back together I snapped one of the silver knee pieces!

I've asked FT to help me out with replacement parts but on almost every one of these figures I've had some sort of QC issue. They look great but I'm sick of the aggravation.

Are you able to show some pictures? I actually like to see it.

The piece on the right here should not be in two pieces. It's the silver knee pieces that house the ratchet joints for the leg.

I never did get the new replacement arm parts for Scoria (meant to order some online and forgot) and while mine arent too bad they are still a little loose so I'd be interested in replacing them if I can find out where to get them or who to talk to

Haven't gotten regular Grinder yet but I presume it doesn't have the part I need based on what came with Grinder X.

The latest review on PF-01 Cesium is more honest and good comparison of height among the FT dinobots.

I am still waiting on mine, but technically there isn't a big need to buy one.

After much consideration I decided to pull the trigger on the new Gigapower Graviter (not Sludge) as a stand in for FT-07x to complete my X set of FT Dibots that I display in dino mode.

From what I can tell by looking at photos the paint is more gunmetal grey than the silver of the X Dibots but I'm hoping it won't look too bad. It was either pay $169 shipped for it or pay $860 shipped for a used FT-07x from China! :eek:

If it doesn't fit with the X Dibots I will post it here for sale for someone that is looking to buy the Gigapower dinos.

I haven't but as expected I see others have tried already. These things are rarer than hen's teeth and he has already said there will be no reissue. One day I might own one (perhaps if the Gigapowers become popular some people will sell their X versions) but I won't lose any sleep over it.

i think robotoy base has most of the weird (green, blue , red) versions in stock and is probably your best bet ( i only recommend it as its where most of my collection came from and he is reliable)

For me I like Scoria better.

The Dinobots from Fantoys are pretty good. Pretty good, I am quite haapy with most of it but not without flaws.

Fantoys provided fixes for each Dinobot from each other dinobot releases.

One major fix is Swoops knee golden cap which were plastic and easy to break.
The fix is provided with Grinder box and it isn't too hard to replace.

I picked up Stomp at MoHock.nz. OhMyPrimus for Swoop and Cesium. (Sorry D. I didn't think to look here) They both have colourful variants still. ToybotImports still has a Blue Soar on sale.

Congrats! Grinder should be fairly easy to find still on ebay (stick to baba or netclow) or RK etc. Sever should also be available through those or similar channels. Sever I believe was already reissued last year while Grinder only came out last year so you would expect it to be reissued at least once or twice more.

My Gigapower Graviter (Sludge) arrived this week. Just got him out now and it's massive. The paint is more gunmetal grey than the silver of X version FT Dinos that I'm trying to match it with. But will see how it looks in dino mode with other FT dinos.

They are the most reliable chinese sellers for these things on ebay. Trust me, I've tried quite a few others in buying my 10 3P figures. I was scammed twice by sellers that were legit for a while to build up their feedback but then went rogue. I got my money back both times but it wasted a whole lot of my time. Stick to those two and yoi will be fine.

Gigapower Graviter (Sludge) turned out to be a nice substitute for Stomp X. While the paint is gunmetal grey rather than silver, I still think he fits in. This is a cost effective solution for others that still need Stomp X to complete their set.

see if you can find any online reviews of them. they look like a significant size operation but it's always hard to tell from the website. they have some photos of other stuff. I'm guessing they do some transformers related product on the side as a result of a staff member being interested. i'd look at 'local' Japanese distributors first you're likely to get an OK deal somewhere and the shipping will be less.

Yeh I know. I don't regret a few years back getting the Gigapower chrome version of Sludge as a stand-in. The paint is more gun-metal grey but it still kind of fits in with the rest in dino mode, which is how I display them.


What was the price of the initial release?

I got all of the other X versions for about $200-$250 shipped each a few years ago around the time Grinder (Grimlock) was released. The problem was even at that point Stomp was impossible to find for a reasonable price. Someone on TFW in Canada agreed to sell me one for about $500 delivered from memory but then went quiet before the deal was finalised. Then Sarah Yang from Facebook (now has her e-you collection site) offered me a used one three years ago for about $850 - couldn't justify it but maybe I should have gone for it given what they go for today!
