My JP Ultra Universe toys arrived yesterday, and was glad I ignored my first thought of skipping Onslaught, as it is indeed a much different colour that represents the Gen1 toy very well. The US colour is grey, while the JP one is the same olive-blue colour of the Gen1 toy. That with the gold hightlights, it just reeks of Gen1 goodliness. :)
So I had to take some photos, to compare the US versions to the JP versions, with the Gen1 versions in between.
First up, Onslaught (US - Gen1 - JP)

Second is Silverbolt (US - Gen1 - JP)

And lastly, Powerglide (US - Gen1 - JP)

I think the JP versions of Silverbolt and Onslaught are definitely the best, but Powerglide just doesn't seem to work with either version (for me), because the Gen1 version is red compared to the JP version being more orangy-red, while the original one had grey arms, making it look less boring in just the one colour. I prefer the look of the white US one, but if it came down to which was closer to the original, I'd probably go with the JP one.
