After doing the recent JP vs US Universe Ultras photos, and Classics Seekers squadron, I was thinking it would be fun and helpful to offer up my services and collection, for anyone wanting to see comparissons between certain figures.
Just note that my collection is in robot mode, so if you are wanting alt mode photos, it might take some time to get around to it, so I will prioritise robot mode comparisson photos.
And if you post up a request, and I don't have either of the figures, I will say so and if someone else wants to do up a photo you can (but no pressure though, as I don't want others committing themselves to something that can take up a fair bit of time, depending on the request).

Also, please say why you want the photo, so that it can help with how I take it (to make sure I focus on something that is the whole point of the photo).

Not a same-character comparison per se, but sometime I'd love to see pics of G1/reissue city mode Metroplex and Trypticon decked out with base mode combiner team leaders. Any minibots and/or world's smallest TFs that could be added in would be great too.

Its a Knockoff so is the groove and blades. Readily available on the bay, don't pay more than 10 USD. As it is possible to get it for 20-30 HKD (less than 4 USD) in hong kong.

The real one is in the Guard City Set. Rare as hell. And you'd be looking at 1000 USD upwards for the set.

Hi,

Do you have universe onslaught & universe inferno?

If you do, would you be able to do a quick measurement of their respective heights?

I read somewhere that onslaught is 9.5 inches, but i'm not sure if its measured all the way to his cannons or just up to his head.

Thanks in advance

I don't have Inferno yet but Onslaught is approx. 20cm up to his head and 23cm up to his cannons.

Thanks mate.

I found an onslaught / inferno comparison pic... it appears that inferno is a full robot toy head shorter than onslaught. Probably around 18cm.

Takara TM-05 Dinobot
VS
Hasbro 10th Anniversary Dinobot

(Any comments on your preferred version would be great as well).

GoktimusPrime
26th May 2010, 05:18 PM
I prefer the Takara one. Looks more like the original toy, only recoloured for greater show-likeness (which is even better if you happen to like show likeness). The Hasbro reissue's colours are more dissimilar to the original toy and the show model. That's not to say the colours are _bad_ per se, and it does come with a part of Transmutate if you're trying to build her. The Takara one comes with a DVD though. Depends on what your tastes are.

Well, that's sealed it, cheers Griff, I was wondering what DL Blaster's size in comparison to ML Soundwave would be like as I want one for a CHUGU Blaster that isn't a dreadful repaint amongst repaints.

Awesome! :D

http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/563.jpg
This was the last regular release RPMs/SpeedStars for me, which I bought for the green Bonecrusher (earlier release was brown).
The photo above and below show the Optimus in the package on the right, and an earlier RPMs Optimus on the left that matched what should have been in the pack... just with a different robot colouring on the base.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/564.jpg
If Optimus had been the same as the packaging image (perhaps it was a late "cost cutting" measure, as it was one of the last released) I would have been keen to get it too (it would be different enough), but photos I saw online of the toy in the packaging suggested that it was a re-release of a different earlier figure.

http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/562.jpg
It turned out that it was virtually identical to that earlier SpeedStars Optimus, except it had a red windshield frame instead of blue.

The three biggest regular-release Transformers toys... Hasbro Fortress Maximus (1988) - JP Grand Maximus (1989) - JP Brave Maximus (2000).

Grand Maximus has the giant Master Sword (as did the JP version of Fortress Maximus), plus a pretender shell for the Head.
Brave Maximus lacked every accessory except, the head "Cerebros", it's head and gun, and the radar dish. No "Grommet" or big guns for the main Bot.

Fort Max is the colour scheme everyone is most used to (including me, who memorised and drooled over the 1987 catalogue for 19 years), while Brave Max has like a night-time deco... leaving Grand Max to look a bit, "wrong" with its dark aqua, red and white. Kinda like it is from an alternate universe with its colours. I think the pretender shell is its only real marketing element, as the Master Sword was released with the JP Fortress Maximus as well.

Fresh from the post office today... probably my last TFs for the year. I bought them from separate ebay sellers, for an acceptable average (one was less than I was expecting, the other a little more)... and ended up both arriving today.

http://www.toycollectors.com.au/1212b.jpg

I don't like showing off what I get, but my main interest in these figures were mostly so I could see and photograph this full rainbow affect - something you can usually only do with Microns that are excessively recoloured (or the Seeker Jet mould).

During the re-organising of my collection, I came across the cardboard trailer for MP Ultra Magnus (still as a flat sheet - I just had it with some posters).
After recently doing some Micron models, I was feeling inspired... I located the other two cardboard trailers released with other JP Masterpiece toys (MP-1 Convoy & MP-1B Black Convoy), and sat down to build them in front of the TV.

Similar to the cardboard Optimus Robot I built some time ago (http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/783.jpg), I had the sticky tape out to reinforce as much as I could, as folded bits of cardboard don't keep their shape too well, and the tabs were only just sitting in slots.
Quite a few parts couldn't get tape into them without ruining the look of the finished product, but there is enough for them to keep their shape.

When I was done building all three, I then had the task of transforming the three matching Masterpiece toys to take the group shot (with a real, plastic MP trailer for comparison).

As fragile as all heck, but look okay as display pieces... especially if you have a hundred different MP Optimus/Convoy toys and don't need them all in robot mode.

And while on the topic of Gen1 Convoy, I also took a photo of the inside of the BAPE trailers, which I didn't open until a few weeks after I got them, as I found the sticker sheet and was going to apply them to the trailer. I didn't think they'd have exclusive stickers inside, so in the end I didn't put any stickers on at all. The toys look nice enough without them, so a complete sticker sheet will give the pair better value (if I ever had to part with them).

Some recent arrivals, so I had to dig out previous versions for photo comparisons...

Beast Hunters Deluxe wave 1 (Soundwave, Wheeljack, Bumblebee)
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/921.jpg

They are all fairly well bulked up now.
I was really surprised that the plastics of the remoulded Beast Hunters toys, have splotches of a second colour in them. Wheeljack's white and red plastic parts have black colour splotches. Some of Bumblebee's yellow parts have red splotches. While Soundwave's light blue parts have dark blue splotches.
That would take for a bit more creative moulding process, but runs the risk of having random splotches that could be too much colour, or none at all.

Dark Energon Voyagers, next to the previous two releases of each mould.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/924.jpg

Megatron is okayish, but Optimus looks terrible with the clashing colours.

http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/925.jpg

Hasbro Masterpiece Skywarp - Gen1 Skywarp - JP Masterpiece Skywarp.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/920.jpg

There are some extra silver paint apps and wing apps on the JP version, but the Hasbro version closer replicates the original Gen1 toy, with the purple tailfins, wingstripes, and the red on the air intakes.

TF2 Battle-damage Optimus - (new) Asia/HK Premium Striker Optimus - TF2 Premium edition - TF2 regular edition

Hasbro Thundertron Vs JP Leo Prime (with Micron)
(the different shoulder pads were not intentional, but I might leave them now to differentiate them more)
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/922.jpg

The interesting thing about this mould is that like Ironhide & Kup, each colour version appears to now be exclusive to that market, so that neither market released both versions.

The other interesting thing about Leo Prime is how there appears to be an evolution of the Leo Convoy toy (from Beast Wars) to Leo Prime (in Arms Micron)... with the Universe/Classics homage in the middle.

From last weeks arrivals...

Rescue Bots series 2 (Energize), which have some translucent blue parts, and an accessory.
(the blue bits make them look like those prototypes that have odd, mismatching parts)
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/936.jpg
.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/937.jpg

Encore Anime Devastator...
Some example parts first, and the pair of Devastators (my original one is a bit dusty, and has some discolouring).
Love the new head though, as it gives me chills of the original cartoon series and 1986 Movie brought to life.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/940.jpg
.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/941.jpg

Arms Microns (January wave) - Wildrider, Rumble, Frenzy.
I usually only get the JP versions that are significantly different to the Hasbro versions, so buying Frenzy (blue one) was a difficult decision. As
much as I didn't want two Rumbles (the JP Rumble is red, the Hasbro Rumble is blue), I ended up convincing myself to get the JP Frenzy based
on it being different enough in colour, and that the JP Rumble needed the twin in order to have the two pile-driver Microns (one comes with each toy).
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/939.jpg

Wildrider on the other hand, is an amazing figure. And mostly because it has a new head that homages the Gen1 Wildrider on the cartoon (with the side spikes).
There are enough colours on the toy to not need stickers (like some others do), and the mould suits this "evil" character more than an 'Autobot who
was a Gen1 scientist but is who is now a ruthless mercenary in TFPrime'.
Hasbro should never have done Dead End (their redeco of Wheeljack with a new head)... this was the toy we should have gotten from Hasbro instead.

13th February 2013, 01:05 AM
I didn't get the previous Encore Constructicons, or seen them, so don't know for sure what was wrong with it (I might have a look through the review topic later though).

The only moulding change I did notice, that really stood out (making me think it was a pretty neat idea), was the tab on Hook, that locks in to a slot in Devastator mode to hold the halves together better now.

I'd imagine that this set is exactly identical to the previous Encore, since it wouldn't have been produced in as great a numbers to warrant much more than a new head.
I only have the original one to compare to, and so far that tab is the only thing that has stood out.

Some recent arrivals, compared to other versions.

The new series of BotShots, the two 3-packs in Wave 1 had a Bumblebee and Cliffjumper, but I think Hasbro coloured them the wrong way around.

On the left is the 3-pack Bumblebee with a Cliffjumper head (no neck Helmet), and in the middle is the 3-pack Cliffjumper with a Bumblebee head (the Helmet curves in to make a neck - like the one on the right which is the single-pack Bumblebee, which is the same mould). I think the new mould on the left should have been red, but perhaps someone at Hasbro probably thought it would be better to have two moulds of Bumblebee.

A second Japanese cardboard model Optimus (Animated) next to the Gen1 Optimus I built a few months ago. Both were in different Movie Promo packs.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/a595.jpg

JP Henkei Beast Optimus & Megatron. Bought for the different coloured Megatron, and was hoping that the Optimus was different as well, but only the "board" had any colour differences.
On the left are the Hasbro 10th Anniversary pair, in the middle are the Cybertron versions, and on the right are the JP Henkei pair.
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/a596.jpg

Gen1 Trainsets. I've been wanting this for years, but didn't want to pay several Hundred for a mint complete set... so when a cheap one came along (in the model train section of ebay instead of Transformers) I jumped on it. When it arrived, the box was all damaged from what looks like water damage. It wasn't mentioned on the listing, and didn't show up on the photos, so kept an eye out for another one because the box is the best bit (can't use it without getting an adapter).
So I found another cheap one from Europe, but didn't think to look at the smaller print to realise that the box didn't have english on it... spoiling it a little. The main thing though is that when it arrived, the box was a bit squished because it is made of almost paper-thin card, not think card like the American version.
The size of the box is different too.

A five year lose end, finding the last of the Star Wars Transformers (this one was released in 2008, but not here). It had a limited release, because
it was remoulded into Anakin... which is the Bumblebee of Star Wars, in that the Anakin version was released several times in the years afterwards
(along with half the other SWTFs that were Anakin). After seeing each very rare (complete) Y-wing Pilot on ebay by Americans not willing to ship
to foreigners, I finally convinced a seller to post theirs to me.
The pic below has the original Y-wing pilot mould (which I just got) in the middle, and the Anakin remould on the left. On the right is the Class 1
(small size) Anakin/Y-wing, which was also meant to be released as a Y-wing Pilot version, but "Bumblebee" was more important, so it was
cancelled in favour of another Anakin toy instead.

The new Rescue Bots 2-packs human figurines compared to the first series human figurines. This years figurines don't have any joints - the ones last
year had arm and leg movement. As such, they appear to be new moulds, but same size. Offsetting this, the robot figurines have ball-socket
shoulders and leg joints.
I don't have the Chase 2-pack, as it ended up being like a chase set, with only one to a case of 8 (it should have been 2 each, but Optimus had 3 in the case).

http://www.toycollectors.com.au/blog/a632.jpg

2007 Movie Bumblebee 2-pack with regular versions. Only just got the 2-pack, as it wasn't a priority, due to the 74 Bumblebee not looking much different to the regular version. In hand though, it has noticeably larger amount of scorching on it... but I won't know if there are any differences in robot mode as I'll leave this sealed for display.

Christmas Edition Buzz Lightyear. It was meant to be released late 2010 as a pre-orderable item for pickup at 7-11 in Japan. Since I couldn't find any evidence of it actually being released in the last two years, I wrote it off as being cancelled due to lack of interest. Then just recently it started appearing on ebay from an Asian seller who sells a fair few toys that didn't get released... making me think that maybe it did get released because it is fully packaged, but just not in huge numbers (leaving a lot of left-over stock sitting at a factory somewhere).
Since the only images I could find of this figure online were official product promo images, here are several I took of mine, with other Disney (Pixar) Label Transformers.

That's now the entire set of known Disney (Pixar) Label Transformers. The Halloween Donald was another hard-to-find figure, that was also limited in its release.
I love these toys - they are easy and fun, and are classic Disney & Pixar characters... it was a shame they didn't do more than these three characters, over and over and over again. :p
