People have just found at Target stores in America (http://news.tfw2005.com/2017/11/11/transformers-power-primes-jazz-dreadwind-u-s-retail-353429), the first wave of Power of the Prime Deluxes (Jazz, Dreadwind, Slug/Slag, Swoop).

This is surprisingly early, since they aren't expected until the first week of December in Asia, and may not be in Australia until the new year.

Bleh. The in-store Swoop is Blue chested. Cartoon accuracy is Takara's thing, not Hasbro's.

Hopefully it means we will get some reviews while we are still getting pre-order prices. There are a few that have me really on the fence.

Some "in hand" pics are appearing, but you can bet some Youtuber is trying to get their hands on them asap to be the first with a video review.

Not loving Slug or Jazz much, Swoop's the wrong colour for me, and Dreadwind looks ok but something off about the chest (but since he'll be Buster in Japan he's one I will definitely get).

Has it been confirmed that Takara will be doing their own versions of these? Maybe they would do the opposite of Hasbro?

Would they even do a box set like the combiner wars stuff?

Did we have any idea when these guys were supposed to hit Australia? Is this good news for us?

It hasn't been confirmed but they will release them. Likely some box sets (Terrorcons, Fembots, maybe the Dinobots) and some maybe single packages (like they might do a twin pack Buster and Hydra or release those with additional Godmaster partners).

But they would make Swoop look like the cartoon too, so the red breasted version (from Hasbro's own stock images!) isnt likely from Japan.

I'm totally waiting for the special release shiny versions of the dinobots. you know they're coming. Exclusive or retail, they're in the pipeline somewhere.

Jazz is a favourite of mine and this version isn't really exciting me at all.

Don’t know if I should wait and see what Takara will do with a cartoon accurate dinobot set, or get in on the game fast and get the Hasbro versions, which do look pretty superb. Slag is my favourite G1 character and I like his red-faced cartoon look better, so it’s eating at me a little bit. :p

I'll be waiting on takara's efforts especially since reports suggest the clear parts on the dinobots are supposedly all clear plastic with the inside painted, no solid stuff at all.

That and stickers on voyagers, NEVER AGAIN

TakaraTomy are so far behind with the TR toys, we probably won't see their versions of POTP toys until mid next year.

Also... it looks like each toy is randomly packed with one of 12 character cards (https://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/randomized-cards-with-different-prime-powers-confirmed-for-transformers-power-of-the-primes-toyline-with-examples/40022/), of that character with one of the 12 PrimeMasters. This was actually something Hasbro mentioned at SDCC, but no one (including me) really understood what they were talking about at the time... so if you are a completist with the character cards, you will need to track down 12 times the amount of POTP toys.

How will completionist get them all without buying multiples of the same toy, its not like you can trade with anyone unless hasbro wants us to buy multiples of the same toy or encourage scalping on another level.

Artwork and tech specs is all we need, don't understand how hasbro wants the consumer to approach these.

TFW has a topic for people to post up the different character cards (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/power-of-the-prime-collector-cards-post-scans-here.1128164/), and quite a few of the first wave Deluxes are already posted up (considering there are 48 different ones just for those four Deluxes).
Even though the character card is behind the toy in the card bubble or box, you should be able to make out the card colour or Prime Master icon if you are wanting to collect a particular combination in-store.

They also note (http://news.tfw2005.com/2017/11/14/power-primes-pack-collector-card-variant-information-12-variants-per-figure-353551) that each PrimeMaster gives each toy a similar ability, with some being quite powerful or unusual.

Micronus (power linking / power sharing?)
Liege Maximo (smooth talking / eloquence)
Vector Prime (time travel / precision timing)
Alchemist Prime (transmutation of matter / changing physical or mental states)
Alpha Trion (knowledge)
Quintus Prime (creation of life / evolution)
Megatronus (destruction / all out attack)
Solus Prime (forging weapons / armor)
Onyx Prime (the least defined. Seems to bring out animalistic traits)
Amalgamous Prime (transformation, specifically into a form better suited for the situation)
Nexus Prime (combination)
Prima (justice / light / freedom)

They also remind us of the different waves of PrimeMasters...
Wave 1 (3) - Liege Maximo, Micronus, Vector Prime
Wave 2 (2) - Alchemist Prime, Alpha Trion
Wave 3 (3) - Megatronus, Quintus Prime, Solus Prime

Yet to be announced (4) - Amalgamous Prime, Nexus Prime, Onyx Prime, Prima.

Personally I dont really care about this gimmick with the cards, sure it might be cool to have all 12 of one characters power ups but worth buying the same character 12 times cool? Nah.

Paulbot
15th November 2017, 09:20 AM
I thought the cards were explained pretty well when announced, what we're seeing is exactly what I expected. And the "abilities" all tie into the myths of those GodsPrimes.

Buying 12 of each figure to get every card is something a few people might do, but Hasbro would get more sales by releasing booster packs like actual trading cards.

griffin
15th November 2017, 11:00 AM
Imagine the size of that trading card set. With 25 to 30 Deluxe or larger expected for POTP there could be over 300 cards to collect. I'd love for them to sell a complete deck, but I don't think there would be too many others buying them.
If they do that for exclusives too, people may get very upset.

Some of the Wave 2 assortments are now being found out (https://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/power-of-the-primes-wave-2-case-breakdowns-prime-master-voyager-leader/40031/), for anyone wanting to space out purchases and need to focus on wave 1 toys that may not be in the next wave.

The Leader case will have Optimus re-released, along with the new Rodimus Unicronus replacing Rodimus Prime.

The Voyager case has all new figures (Elita-1 and Hun-Grrrr), replacing wave 1 Grimlock and Starscream.

The Prime Masters will have two of the three wave 1 figures re-released (Skullgrin/LiegeMaximo, Metalhawk/VectorPrime), with the two new figures for wave 2 (Submarauder/AlchemistPrime, Landmine/AlphaTrion).

Word is filtering through that POTP toys might be released here to the retailers, so that they show up in stores in the first week of January.
That may be an estimate, and the toys could start showing up at the end of December or end of January... but at this time, the first week of January appears to be like a "release date" for POTP toys here.

griffin
24th November 2017, 07:13 AM
So we know that the release date in Asia is December 1st, and our unofficial release date here in Australia is said to be January 1st (plus, someone on TFW mentioned that New Zealand have to wait until March for their POTP toys)... it looks like official the US release date could be December 15th, as some have started showing up on Amazon as pre-orders (https://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/transformers-power-of-the-primes-wave-1-figures-available-for-preorder-on-amazon/40113/).

That's the Voyagers, Legends and Deluxe Jazz (none of the other w1 Deluxes though).

Well, it looks like our market is not big enough during the Christmas rush to be worthy of a December 1st release.

I don't think it is by choice of the local branch, as we can (and do) get stock at the same time as other countries, or earlier, if it is available.
If we couldn't get it here for the start of December, it was either because there wasn't enough left in the first production run for our country (after America and Asia takes the lion share), or the local Hasbro branch is still stuck with too much Titans Return stock, and are giving it another month to clear out the backlog first.

As we wait patiently for the POTP toys to show up in Australia (hopefully any day now), the Voyager Starscream has already undergone a running change (http://news.tfw2005.com/2018/01/16/transformers-power-primes-voyager-starscream-running-mold-change-356851), with a remoulded part on the back of the robot mode, that allows the wing kibble to plug in further, making the kibble backpack more stable.

For those who know where to look on the box for the production number, the new run of Starscreams have the number 73101. (but since the first wave of POTP stock has been in Australia for some time now, that newer number might not show up here until a little later).

I just got my Starscream yesterday from Amazon America, and it was the earlier production run, and I can see how this remould improves the back kibble a lot. Without the remould, the top tab just doesn't reach the hole to plug in properly, or at all sometimes.

America sometimes get things first, before even Asia... and this time it is wave 2 of the POTP toyline, with Rodimus Unicronus (the black redeco Leader Rodimus), being found at a Walmart in Kansas (https://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/transformers-power-of-the-primes-rodimus-unicronus-sighted-at-retail/40515/).
The first wave of Leaders haven't even filtered through to most parts of the country, and wave 2 appears.
It was probably accidentally sent from the factory with a shipment of wave 1 Leaders, like the wave 2 Legends toys that showed up in Singapore a few weeks ago... because this toyline is supposed to be spaced out, with the four waves over the whole year, which should see about 3 months between each wave.

As people are noting, the purple (Shattered Glass) Autobot logo from the promotional images, has been replaced with a Decepticon symbol (which would be more for the benefit of the general public).

23rd January 2018, 10:28 PM

Problem there is you have to go to another store if the same item have the same card. That is as long as the card is not the same as what you already have so it would be similer if you brought it blindly from the internet

I must say... I really like the way that homages the original Hungrrr toy, in all three modes. Sure, there are some kibble issues, but the compromises to get three modes that reflect that 1980s toy so well, is a great effort from the designers.

Which means that the wave 2 Voyagers, Legends (http://news.tfw2005.com/2018/02/10/power-primes-legends-wave-2-spotted-us-retail-358104) and Prime Masters (http://news.tfw2005.com/2018/02/10/power-primes-prime-masters-wave-2-spotted-us-retail-358100) are also now out at American retail.
America is just missing the Deluxe toys of wave 2, but it does mean that all of wave 2 is now released in America or Asia. (and could show up here... if stores weren't so slow stocking wave 1, as it will take longer to use up the first shipment of stock to the Hasbro warehouse)
