LEGO 60th Anniversary

The LEGO brick has now been around for 60 years. How do you think the brand has evolved? What are your favourite/least favourite themes and sets?

Happy 60th Lego!
As a Lego fan, my favourite theme is Star Wars, Creator and City. I like buildings/houses more than anything else which is why I tend to like more traditional Lego pieces over the more modern specialised parts that you see Lego make today. I’m currently winding down (trying to:o) Lego collecting as it’s costing me a fortune and I have no space. I’m certain I’ve bought a set or 5 from every theme that’s come out. Some Ninjago and Friends sets are good, hate Technic, like Speed Champions. Biggest purchasing regret was Nexo Knights:D.

I like all the sets I've bought throughout the many years. I regret nothing!! Except spending way too much... :o

I remember in the 90's I think when they tried to simplify lego with large moulded pieces, especially bases for the large playset sets. Pirates and Medieval sets really suffered from this design trend. it put me and many others off, if I remember they nearly closed up shop.

These days they have turned that around and lego is better now than it's ever been with sets being developed by the fan community and licenced sets from NASA to the simpsons. I don't buy a lot of it at the moment, in the last few years I've bought Benny's spaceship space ship SPACESHIP!!, the lego creator set of the F-35 and the Lego Technic Set of the F-35. Late last year I bought the Saturn V. I look forward to building it with my kids in a few years.

I expect there will be much more lego built in the house when they are old enough.

LEGO, the toy for everyone of every age, even if they don’t know it or cannot accept it!

So glad transformers have had such a mediocre time of late as it freed up so much disposable pre small child income for me to splurge on! The only negatives are in Legos rather questionable market practices, not allowing us to buy Lego from online retailers like amazon and charging us huge percentages over the US and euro prices on the vast majority of sets. $15 of LEGO is almost always a better dea than a $15 transformer (more now than ever!)

Problem is there are just so many good, huge and expensive sets I want to buy but can never afford or find room for! The 60th anniversary set is gorgeous and just about perfect, but having to spend $200 on he already crazy over priced LEGO store is ridiculous.

I've stopped collecting Lego for space and budget reasons, but I still look at the sets on the shelves at work and think they are great.

I really wish I knew where my Aquanauts sets got to. That and City were my favourite sets growing up.

Architecture, Ideas and Creator sets are my faves :)

I could not agree with this more, the 90's were Lego's dark time putting both my brother and I off it for almost a decade, Star Wars reignited the passion and my five year old daughter has thrown a large amount of accelerant on to it.

When she was little I bought her heaps of Duplo but she showed very little interest in it, she would "help" me build Star Wars, now she builds her own Lego sets, Princesses and Friends, its just amazing to see her little hands put sets together designed for older kids.

Thanks to her enthusiasm we have branched out into trains and building a town. As someone else has stated due to the recent lack of decent TF releases as well as no Star Wars sets that really interest me at the moment there is spare money to get into this type of thing.
................................Space is always the issue with Lego though.:rolleyes::p

When I was little in the late 80s and early 90's I think I liked most sets. When Pirates debuted I loved it, and also loved the Castle and Space themed stuff. When Star Wars stuff first started coming out I don't think I was that interested in Lego as a whole any more. The Lego Movie got me back in, I hadn't really followed Lego much for ages. I watched the movie on blu ray I think on a chance, having skipped it at the cinema. Then I started hunting for whatever Movie sets were still around haha. I bought a lot of the Force Awakens sets but none of the Last Jedi sets. I do have a few Creator Expert modular buildings but like with a lot of stuff they are just sitting in boxes at the moment. Nowhere to put anything. Just like my UCS Falcon argh hehe. I also got all of the City theme Volcano Explorers from a couple of years ago now I think. Getting the ocassional Ideas set too.

I probably was too young at the time to notice the effect of larger moulded pieces and the complaints. I thought the baseplate things for Pirates and Castle were cool with the ramps and pits for dungeons etc.
