Just a quick question for our resident and esteemed Japanophiles here.

I'm looking for the title of a Japanese movie I really want to show my wife.
I've seen it before, late one night, but never caught the title.
It has two aspiring actresses living together and vying for the same part in a production. One girl is an academic, high achiever from a rural area and the other is more urbane (and slutty).
In the end they end up beating each other to death.

It truly is a great film. :)

Any assistance or information on it is highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Interesting thread, there is an Asian movie that I've always wanted to know what it was, maybe someone knows it also?

I've seen bits of it twice on SBS, but never looked in the TV Guide to see what it was, but at one part there was this huge fight scene, with fights happening in a stair well, more fights happening in a car park, with a car driving up/down the ramps of different levels, and there was another part where a guy was in an apartment, and either there was a bomb there or someone shot a missile at the place, cause he hid in the fridge so he wouldn't get burned...

When I say fights, they were mostly shooting, not fists, karate etc..

Pretty poor examples to pick a movie I know, but if anyone remembers it or anything similar, I'd be most appreciative :)

Awesome Ramp! :) That's the one.

Everybody should see this movie before they die. I found it highly entertaining!

It's funny how they exploit each others weaknesses, like how one is allergic to tatami mats, so later the other rubs her face into the floor.

This is the movie that inspired Dreamworks to make a live-action Transformers movie.* I must admit that when I saw this movie I immediately started about the possibility of a TF movie.

Here is the "inspirational" scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kThJGtcVqU) <--!SPOILER ALERT!

_______________
*iirc in one of the DVD interviews either Spielberg or someone from Dreamworks (not Bay) said that they'd seen a Japanese movie which had a transformation scene in it which then prompted them to consider making a Transformers movie.
P.S.: I think the DVD also mentioned that they were also inspired by the Michael Smith VW short (http://video.google.com.au/videoplay?docid=6082038892429211119&ei=6IEFSe2fKZrUqAPhxYD4Dw&q=michael+smith+VW+transformer&hl=en) and the transforming Citroën ads.

...yeah, that doesn't look Japanese (as per the topic of this thread). You did say Asian though... of course, Kazahkstan is Asian too. ;)

Returner is awesome! I remember when I first watched this film I couldn't stop listening to one of the songs on the soundtrack 'Take me to the Place'.

i have a jap film that needs a name

It was really like an X rated blue film

it was set in samurai periods, it featured a widower of a samurai.

A trio i think, of ninja?? sisters who fight some guys. One of them gets turned into a tree and makes out with the enemy.

And there is a white woman who uses 'magic moving picture scroll" to seduce some Dojo master.

Im sure the name of the filum was something like ninja scroll, yes im aware of "Ninja scroll"

Still havent seen Battle Royale:(

Still havent seen Battle Royale:(

Blasphemy Roller. Battle Royale is an awesome film and considering some of the youth in our society I'm leaning more and more towards it's whole concept being introduced. We have a 16 yr old apprentice at work who saw me reading a Stephen King novel and he didn't know who he was... So I ask "Do you know who Orson Welles is?"... Can anyone guess his response? I mean the fact that he voiced Unicron is a bonus to us TF fans but this kid from his oh so self obsessed generation wasn't even aware of one of the greatest authors ever. I'll have to take my frustrations out on the younger ones like Roller and Kuzzy next time I see them :p

Possibly Erotic Ghost Story (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100014/), it used to spin on World Movies all the time about 12 years ago when it first started up. I don't think I ever actually watched it tho, but I couldn't avoid the promos.

Battle Royale is excellent if somewhat misunderstood. Same with Ichi the Killer.

Heh, you might have to kick your own ass first :p I think you've confused master movie director/actor Orson Welles (inital broadcast of War of the Worlds) with master author H.G. Wells (writer of War of the Worlds, The Time Machine, The Island of Doctor Moreau, The Invisible Man... ).

Unless you're referring to the movies he wrote (Citizen Cane, Touch of Evil,,,) :o

+1 for Returner (despite a touch horrific Engrish and I didn't like the ending, although I can't really remember it anymore).

I went on a MASSIVE Asian movie binge about 5 years ago when I got broadband and belonged to some great indie torrent movie sites (, great times for a geek ). The Koreans were really kicking back then too, but there was alot of good stuff available.

I actually was referring to Orson Welles as this kids parents own the local cinema and are big movie buffs (and this is a movie based thread). But after reading this I asked him if he knew who H.G Wells was and got the same stupid blank expression.

EDIT: I have since asked this kid about numerous celebrities over the past century. The only positive response I got was "Michael Jordan... He played basketball right?"

Ok, cool. Back in year 9 we studied War of the Worlds in English, several students confused Welles with Wells because of the association.

I found that clip when I was actually looking for the Tf movie trailer. Someone had listed it as the official Transformers trailer. I was almost disappointed coz I though, "there was no 747 in G1!!"

Roller, I think you are searching for: Lady Ninja:Reflections of Darkness. Really bizarre imo hehe.

Now then, im looking for a movie also. Its about a blind swordsman (samurai?) who has bleached-blonde hair and he basically never loses a fight, lol. Anyone got any idea whats it's called? It's only a couple of years old (i think).

Zatoichi (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363226/), staring none other than the one and only Takeshi Kitano. I believe this movie was based off of a classic Manga? And he's only blind because he chooses to be, as later on he starts using his eyes again for some reason or other.

There needs to be a Japanese Film appreciation thread, unless this current thread can serve a dual purpose...

Kitano Takeshi, more commonly known as "Beat Takeshi" is a freakin' legend! And he's pretty smart too! He runs this cool talk show on Japanese TV where they confront some interesting social issues in Japan... stuff that most people don't like to think or talk about, he drags them out. He has this studio audience which are like half Japanese and half foreigners and they debate about social issues from various different peoples' POVs. He gets in Japanese celebrity guests and everything. I loved that show but I don't know if it's still on.
