According to the Taobao listing, expected release is July 2018, with an RRP of 12,800 yen, while the TBI listing classifies it as a Wonder Festival Exclusive.

I’ve had multiple suppliers offer this product today, from China, Hong Kong and Japan. My suppliers in Hong Kong and Japan don’t deal in KO’s.

It depends on what sort of gold is used.
If it is shiny gold chrome plating like Lucky Draw toys, it would be a KO if being offered for sale in significant quantities.
But if it is like the gold painted MP-5 Megatron that came out a few years ago as an Asia exclusive, it would be legit.

If I've got this right, the legit ones are very limited quantity (e.g. 1000 only) and if so there should be a number saying which of the limited quantity it is.
Better yet if a certificate of authenticity is included as well.

I've not seen anything to say these are any more limited than a typical exclusive. I was going to wait to pick this up but might not if it's limited to 1,000. Do you recall where you saw this stated?

Unfortunately none of the BAPEs, EVA etc has a certificate. Would be nice though, my wife's Disney dolls are individually numbered.

Don't get too hung up on limited numbers. MP4S Sleep Convoy had limited edition in Japan... then so did the Asia release... It's all done to jack up the price.

Happens every time with a DIY spray tan booth. Missed patches here 'n' there and inconsistent colour coverage.

RK shipping gets a lot more reasonable the more you add to the order. Good time to stack all the upcoming MPs for the next few months together if you have the patience.

From the TV series called Toy Hunter, I recall the gold Energon Rodimus is limited to 500 or 1000 and only available through a Transformers club raffle. Elsewhere I discovered there was only one gold Cybertron Metroplex ever made and also available through a club raffle.

Could it be the quality of the gold paint that determines how collectable they are?:confused:

Not unless you got in on toybotimportz first pre order like I did which was only $172. Xin at saviers toys is usually pretty close in price too but he can’t give a price till the product is shipped from his supplier.

It's an odd two-tone colour & not in a good way. I'd hope it would grow on me but alas no. I quite like the chrome-look painted sections in isolation BUT combined with the unpainted poo-yellow parts it looks hideous.

For those worried that the Golden Lagoon Optimus will be really rare, or hard to obtain, just be aware that the stock that was released in the last week (end of August) was just the advance release that people could pre-order from the Japanese Wonderfest in July (https://takaratomymall.jp/shop/g/g4904810613558/).
There will still be a "regular" release of this TakaraTomyMall exclusive at the end of September (https://takaratomymall.jp/shop/g/g8000000000809/), and it looks like the pre-orders still haven't sold out yet.


But as with most TTM exclusives, it will be released through Hasbro Asia/HK as well... and if it isn't already out in HK and Asia this week, it might be released there at the end of September, rather than this week with the Wonderfest advance stock.


The other Golden Lagoon sets will be normal TTM and Hasbro Asia releases... it was just Convoy/Optimus that had an advance release for Wonderfest pre-orders.

The lighting makes it look a lot better than some of those convention photos. These figures look a bit weird to me, I think it is the lack of chrome or shine.

I paid $200 each for mine off eBay from Toyspark. They arrived yesterday but I haven't opened the package yet. Have to factor in GST to that sold price also. I bought mine with 10% off gift cards plus used the normal 5% discount code. Would wait until they run another 10% off like they did last night. It was that or pay $480 for two from RK.

If it was entirely chrome we'd then get people complaining about paint chipping. In fact, there is an entirely gold chrome KO of MP-10 that you are instructed not to transform for this reason.

I'm glad Takara took longevity into consideration here, and IMO the compromise really doesn't look that bad.

The retail price in Japan is 16,200yen, which is about 200au.
And I saw (only) one in Hong Kong, for 950HK... which is about 180AU.... so if you can find one for $200 or less, I think it is still a good price.
