Bumbleebee Movie - first trailer

The first Bumblebee trailer is due out today, as noted last week (http://news.tfw2005.com/2018/06/01/transformers-bumblebee-movie-marketing-campaign-begins-with-a-title-reveal-teaser-364677) by the new Bumblebee Movie facebook page, and actor John Cena (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyKwSQsiIU4)...

... and today, the first trailer is finally here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAIX12F6958) (on youtube), running for 2 minutes and 22 seconds, featuring Bumblebee in his VW form (and with a different robot chest at the end), and a transforming Decepticon jet (Starscream?), with a lead in voice over by the character Bobby Bolivia from the 2007 movie (the car dealer).

Looks interesting.

Things I noticed

1. The plane Transformer (almost certainly Starscream) looks amazing. PLZ immediately provide a Studio Series quality toy of that. Is he a Harrier?
2. I like that Bee is smaller in this than in the Bay films. I always felt he was slightly too large in those.
3. Bee must change alt modes during the film - the kibble on him in the last scene is entirely different to the VW kibble seen beforehand.
4. Designs are nice - I quite liked the first trilogy Bay designs for being quite alien. These are more familiar but from what I've seen probably as nice. I like for example that you can see the wings flip around with the rear boosters really clearly to sit on Starscream's (?) back, instead of everything just sort of morphing in a mass of moving parts like in the last 2 Bay films.

That trailer actually looks pretty good. It feels like there’s more to the movie than just Baysplosions. I’m hoping this new Director brings something fresh.

And I love that shot of Starscream (which looks like a F4 Phantom to me)

I like the trailer, the voice over by "Bobby Bolivia' (RIP Bernie Mac) gave me chills.
I'm not a fan of Bumblebee not talking but I can see why they've kept it if this is in fact the same universe as all the other live action films. I get a feeling it might be handled better this time though.

My favourite thing is that Bumblbees robot mode isn't overly gappy. he looks like he has a shell/skin/surface to his structure, something that clearly defines his profile but also he's not full of gaps making it easy for an enemy to attack his weaker internals.

I'll be interested to see what Rating it has.

Now all I have to do is avoid any further trailers till it comes out in December.

I think this might be the movie I will like. Kubo was a great movie so that and this trailer give me hope. I'm loving that Screamer has a G1 head and some RED on him

I like the more G1 look with the panels being sizeable and covering most of his body giving the G1 coloured robot look rather than silver with flashes of colour.

Also like the little paddle/antennas on his head that were part of his reactions. The bee fighting mask looked great. Especially the eyes.

Also loved the eyes were part of the car underneath. Almost like a toy where they don't need to fully cover the underneath so part of the head is visible.

I think that a significant part of that may also be due to the different choice of alt mode. A VW Beetle is obviously smaller than a Camaro thus it would unfold to be a smaller robot.

That was always the case. From when the flick was first announced this movie has always been planned as a prequel. A reboot of the movies wasn’t announced until way after production was underway. This is the last of the flicks in this particular ‘movieverse,

Apparently some people have suggested the Decepticon seeker may be “Ramjet”?... although it would be cool to have another seeker make an appearance, i think the look is more styled towards Starscreams G1 appearance, in any case I’m hoping it is in fact Starscream cause as far as I’m concerned he deserves the spotlight just as much as Bumblebee

I'm with you on every point. But I really hope Bumblebee starts talking at some point in the film. It would really help with developing some characterisation. Also, that Decepticon jet was nice!

It looks promising, and the 80's nostalgia is strong in this one.

Starscream actually looks somewhat like his G1 self, and even the brief transformation sequence seems similar to his G1 in-flight transformation.

Also, this Bumblebee's battle mask has a similar appearance to Animated Bumblebee's battle mask, but also has compound eyes, just like a bee. Nice.

Showed the girlfriend the trailer; she thinks the new Bee is cute and is genuinely more excited than me. Yeah maybe this new one targets a slightly different demographic.:p

Internet is claiming he's an F-4 Phantom. Doesn't make a heap of sense thematically as the aircraft was reaching obsolescence about then and Starscream generally chooses the air superiority fighter of the day but I'm quietly hopeful that he gets an upgrade to the F-15 form as an in-film reveal.

I'm really liking the designs. As much as I enjoyed the original Bay Trilogy designs, I'm keen on some mix between the Bayverse and G1 designs, which these do quite well. Can't wait to see what other designs look like and a potential Grimlock

I have to admit, I'm pleasantly surprised about the Bumblebee design - it's not pure G1 with a twist, which I would have liked, but it's not full on Bayformer either. Not saying I love it, but I don't hate it either and it's not something I need to come to terms with.

That said, the head is still a bayformers trainwreck and where the can't talk is concerned, if "Fight of the Bumblebee" were a dead horse, the bones would be pounded into dust at this point.

I swore I'd never watch a Bayformers film after that first awful leaked draft and I wasn't disappointed that I did.

This one I could go either way though.

I found it interesting that they are playing on nostalgia for the first film by using the Bobby Bolivia dialogue.

The similarity to Bumblebee meeting Buster might be a coincidence but even so, it's a good one.

I do kinda wish though that they set the film in 1984 rather than in 1987 or later but of course: trailers lie.

Looking forward to seeing this.

Certified Bay hater here, but right now just from that trailer I will be spending my money to go and see this movie, I hope its appropriate to take my daughter too, she's really getting into transformers now and from that looks like she would get into it with a younger female in the role depicted.
