View Full Version : POTP Throne of the Primes redeco Optimal Optimus

Possibly an SDCC exclusive (http://news.tfw2005.com/2018/07/02/all-hail-the-bossmonkey-power-of-the-primes-throne-of-the-primes-optimus-primal-redeco-revealed-366468), comes a special redeco of the POTP Leader Class Optimal Optimus, in the black/red/white deco of the first season Beast Wars Optimus Primal (which will probably mean the inner bot of Primal will end up being a similar colour scheme to the one packed with Optimal Optimus).

This one comes packed in a box that has the toy seated on a throne, and appears to come with a redeco of the Onyx Primal Prime Master that is packed with Predaking.

No price point yet. I'm gonna assume US$100 at least. Looks nice. I like that the plastic circle thing at the back can hold 12 primes.

Wonder if they'll do a blue and red version too.

Easy pass for me.

If they just included Pretender shells I'd be all over this.

Tempting, as I prefer this color scheme compared to the normal. Price will of course be a big factor if I get this.

Same, just opened my nornal one sunday night, it was an impulse buy when i finally saw one at big w, had a hole on my shelf so filled it, but would much rather this one, would gladly display as a gorilla (whereas it'll be robot mode pretty much exclusively for the nornal version)

I kinda just want the throne, Prime Masters, and the weapon.

Is it just me, or is this all a King Kong Reference? Like he turns into a giant gorrila, has a crown and a throne.

I like the classic Optimus Primal deco more than the Optimal Optimus deco. I'd totally buy this if I could afford it (which is very VERY unlikely).

Preorder at The Little Toy Company (https://www.thelittletoycompany.com.au/sdcc-2018-exclusives/transformers-transformers-sdcc-exclusive-throne-of-primes-box-set-pre-order) for $185.

I like the season 1 Primal deco on Optimal Optimus, but I don't like it that much.

To be honest if the Prime Masters had exclusive Sky High, Iquanus and Pincher shells (or whoever) it might be a bit more tempting.

Ok, colour me unimpressed. For starters, the throne is cardboard. Maybe my expectations were a little high, but I was expecting a big chunk of plastic there. Then you have the sceptre which extends and ideally requires 4 Prime Masters to keep it stable when it's extended, yet only comes with 3.

This could have been something awesome, but Hasbro have massively cheaped out here.

The review (https://tformers.com/sdcc-2018-video-review-of-throne-of-the-primes-optimal-optimus-with-screenshots/33842/news.html) I just saw only showed 3, but considering one of them I saw was the 13th Prime, it does expose a potential issue. The Prime Masters are on a rotating disc, where Amalgamous and Nexus are positioned on a completely different part of the disc to Prima. It looks like if you aren't mindful of that, that you can easily lose Prima.

While the 4 Prime Masters are a definite nice touch, I just can't get past that cardboard throne - not when you can be paying close to $200 for it.

I suspect tltc is overcharging a bit, need an official price and some potential competition before we can consider things

TBH, I'd rather it were closer to that price and had a plastic or even stone resin throne, than cheaper and had a cardboard throne which was delicate and potentially didn't last anywhere near as long.

That seems rather expensive. I'd expect the SDCC price would be US$70-80 (about AU$100), as a normal Leader toy is US$50 (https://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/en/htsusa/-e1147as00), and these sorts of SDCC toys aren't double their retail prices (like the Primatives Optimus, which was $50 at SDCC, while the regular Optimus was $45 at retail).

True enough that it won't be that much at the show but you need to factor in middleman costs/scalper pricing and international shipping(and GST on all of that). The TLTC price is expensive for sure but I think it's gonna be closer to the final cost for us for a lot of us to get our hands on it than we'd like to admit

I preordered this from tlc. Not sure if I’m going to get ripped hard.
But I felt that it would have easily costed $185. By the time I shipped it over here.

Surprised that not many people seem too excited about this figure.

Official price from HTS is $70 US

https://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/en/htsusa/categories/featured-htsus-categories-featured/action-figures-htsus-categories-featured-actionfigures/-e19140000?catName=

Wonder how much it would cost to forward from US. Would forwarders pack it properly so the box won't get crushed?

Official price from HTS is $70 USSo just under AU$100. Looks to me like TLTC price is over what it should be, AU$120 would be fair but $185 is too much, especially since that doesn't include postage.
One hopes that they reduce the price in light of this, but we'll just have to wait and see.
Wonder how much it would cost to forward from US. Would forwarders pack it properly so the box won't get crushed? Most forwarders offer multiple options, you can send the item exactly how they received it (which is generally ok when the item comes from a toy store as it will be decently packed), or you can pay extra for them to open the packing box up and add in extra padding, fragile labels, etc etc.
Note, not all forwarders offer these services but a lot do, just check under extra services offered to make sure.
As for cost that depends on the final parcel size and shipping method but a rough guesstimate using shipito's calculator (https://www.shipito.com/en/shipping-calculator) says it would be US$30-50.

I don't know if this has changed but when I was listening to Seibertron's podcast a few years ago they mentioned that HTS is actually a small company that Hasbro licenses HTS to. If they are still a small company working under license they may simply have no interest in expanding outside America.

This Primal looks so good that it would be an amazing display to pose this one alongside MP Starscream (with cape) and MP Grimlock. All three of them have crowns.

Received mine today and the outside packaging was dented on every side... like the post office had purposefully thrown every side of the box onto a corner of a table to put dents into it. Naturally when I opened it up the packaging is all smashed up, even though it was protected on all sides by foam. I haven't brought myself to inspect the bot for damage yet. Not happy given I was going to keep him MISB :(

That sucks mate, who did you order from? Can't imagine it would arrive like that from RK given how well they package with styrofoam notwithstanding post office carelessness.

I did order from RK but it is not their fault. They could not have packaged it any better. It clearly was the handling. Like I said, it was so dinged on every side it looked like it had been thrown into the corners of a desk on purchase. I don't understand how it could have been handled so poorly by accident.

It was insured so I will email RK about it but not sure what, if anything, they can/will do. They have been pretty good in the past.

Of course, if anyone has a MISB one that they are yet to open and they didn't want the box and are willing to trade (assuming I check and there is no damage other than to the box) let me know :)

I've taken a punt and pre-ordered PP-43 from BBTS. I'll be in the US for all of January anyway, so there's a good chance I'll pick him up while I'm there.

This is just a hedging purchase in the unlikely event that the TT release is in someway different (better?) than the Hasbro SDCC. If they're found to be identical prior to release, I'll just cancel the pre-order.

Too late now, but if it happens again take a photo of the damage from multiple perspectives BEFORE opening, to document it for insurance. If it's a courier, I wouldn't accept the delivery in that condition.

I already did that. Any time I see damage on the outside of the box I make sure I snap a pic of the box on every side before opening.

RK has simply said that unless there is damage to the item itself, they won't replace it. Most of the time I am not precious about the box but in this instance I see the box as part of the item!

The official images of the Japanese release (http://news.tfw2005.com/2018/08/07/power-of-the-primes-pp-43-throne-of-the-primes-japanese-release-official-images-369663) appear to continue the trend of TakaraTomy just releasing the Hasbro product, even the same packaging... despite this being an exclusive to SDCC, which I would have thought they might have been forced to do something different with the contents or packaging to keep the SDCC version unique.
(even though most SDCC Transformers in the last 5-ish years have been released in Asia by Hasbro Hong Kong, I thought that the Japanese release by TakaraTomy would be treated differently, since it is being released at a different time, and possibly different production run)

If you haven't seen enough of this set already, there is another gallery here (http://reflector.tfw2005.com/transformers-toys/power-of-the-primes/power-primes-autobots/optimal-optimus-throne-of-primes/).

Considering how much it is going for on ebay at the moment, even from Asian sources, I'm going to be one who will have to wait 5-6 months until the January release from Japan, and hope it has everything the US release has (unlike the Monsterbot 2-pack not including Repugnus' Prime Master and Grotusque's diecast Scorponok Titanmaster).

So it looks like I can't get a replacement due only to the box damage. If anyone has purchased one of these and doesn't want to keep the box (just the outer box, not the Throne), please let me know as I would be happy to take it off your hands.
