After the news about reissue Hotrod being a Walmart exclusive a few weeks back (and showing up in Asia), three more Gen1 reissues have been found (http://news.tfw2005.com/2018/07/06/additional-transformers-generation-1-reissue-walmart-exclusive-figures-revealed-366742) listed at Robotkingdom, listed as Walmart exclusives.
Starscream - packed with a mini Megatron gun, about US$40 for July.
Devastator - about US$90 for Juy
Minibots - four different ones (Bumblebee, Swerve, Tailgate, Outback) at about AU$10 each, for August.

I'm glad they're carded just like the originals, but :( Argh, RK is selling the minibots as a set. I was only after a single figure BB.

If Starscream has yellow eyes instead of stickers I will buy it.
Oh how I hate the seeker's eye stickers!
The others, I already have these as reissues in G1 boxes - the boxes just have Japanese writing on them.
Great, and a little surprising, though to see so many G1 reissues for the US market in the works.

Great news it seems like we are going to get a lot more of these vintage style G1 reissues. I’ve already got Hot Rod and it looks absolutely stunning in original packaging. This is a dream come true been hoping for vintage style reissues (English writing) for a long time. I still can’t believe it’s happening.

Case of 8 rather than 8 figures according to Maz on Twitter (https://twitter.com/tfsquareone/status/1015160243632922624)
Ah ok, the set of 8 minibots, here's the case breakdown:
TRA LEGION TAILGATE X 2
TRA LEGION OUTBACK X 1
TRA LEGION SWERVE X 2
TRA LEGION BUMBLE BEE X 3
So we are just getting four of them.
I wonder why Pipes was excluded though

That's exactly what I was thinking. I'm going to need to hunt down Devastator and Starscream for my son. He will loose it when he sees them as he has always seen "original/encore" versions of Devastator/Constructicons and begged me for them. And even though he loves his Combiner Wars one he still nags me for the smaller originals. hehe.
I am really happy to see these figures being "re-released"; I'm just hoping they won't be too hard to source and ridiculously expensive to get down here.

Man, I hope we see these hit retail here in Australia (somehow...). I have the G1 Minibots Encore set from Takara, but I'd still love to get my mitts on some single-carded versions to keep MOC.
I hope this becomes an ongoing thing. I'd love to get some G1 stuff that I missed out on when I was a kid, and even replace some of the stuff that got lost or broken along the way.

I actually support the way they're doing it. It occurs to me that with the move towards Authentics and Cyberverse, original G1 figures aren't that much of a stretch to market at kids, provided the price is right of course. It makes sense to test the waters with these guys and when they prove profitable, then invest in getting older, less used moulds out of mothballs.

My thoughts exactly. There have been so many reissues of Starscream, I'd love to see the other 86 Movie characters get a reissue. When I saw they were doing Hot Rod I was hoping that was the plan.
I really want them to reissue the Targetmasters but that isn't going to happen.
Some of the other combiners that have not been reissued since Classics would be nice, ie Menasor and Superion.

As long as you're talking about toddler age level then yes. But here's the downside; G1 has always had durability issues compared to the advancements first introduced in the late 90's (see BW).

Actually I'm comparing G1 to the Authentics and Cyberverse lines, all of which are very minimalist in their transformations and targeted at the ages 5+ demographic. Yes there'll be some breakages, but I suspect it's a lesson which will only need to be learned once.

Welcome.
The G1 Devastator mould is degrading. With every reissue the mould is getting worse. I have both Encore 20 and Encore 20A, both of which have issues with combining. This release will likely have more issues than the Encore releases.
As for comparisons to KOs we keep KO and Third Party discussion to their respective areas of the boards.

I'm not sure I agree...
I mean if you're talking breakages, sure, maybe?
However with BW, kids were always (and still are) accidentally popping off those ball jointed limbs and leaving them "broken" on the floor.

More official images of the reissues have surfaced (http://news.tfw2005.com/2018/07/18/transformers-g1-bumblebee-reissue-and-studio-series-bumblebee-the-movie-helmet-368079), and the price for Devastator in the US (US$75).
(note the two Constructicons with really bad legs)
And this could be what the minibots will look like in packaging (http://news.tfw2005.com/2018/07/18/transformers-g1-bumblebee-reissue-and-studio-series-bumblebee-the-movie-helmet-368079) - if true, it is very retro like the other reissues coming in boxes.

It seems the packaging of this reissue is based on the later Hasbro carded variation. I prefer earlier carded variants where the figure is in alt-mode so that it doesn't obstruct the card art. This figure itself has the paint apps of the Encore version.
Alas, sold out at RK. If anyone has spares of these to sell, I'll take'em (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=25645).

Thanks for that, I cancelled my orders with Walmart and ordered them from RK. Reason being is that I know RK packs them nicely whereas who knows how Walmart ships them and I haven't been happy with MyUS (my forwarder) lately on their repacking. I did ask to mark them as a gift (forgot to enter it in the instructions) as a preventative measure but no idea if it'll really have an effect, think about it.
The government want retailers to charge on their behalf, auspost ain't gonna police/know what has been charged and what hasn't, but if a whistleblower steps in good chance they'll be IP blocked.
I know mandarake mark them as gifts without question or even asking so that's nice but perhaps unnecessary, not that I'm taking chances

Yes I believe customs will continue to only screen for the items of $1,000 or more. The government didn't want to wear the cost of screening every item so unless the overseas retailer collects the GST I don't think it will be collected once it hits our shores. Guess we will find out soon enough.

One thing I can say about the Minibots case is don't expect them to all be minty. The way Hasbro has packed them into this tiny box is that some of the cards get a little bent/creased. But still impressive for me to see these for the first time.
Only opened up Bumblebee so far, which I've never handled before. The cartoon face is a nice touch.

I'm still on the fence about these. I have the encore reissues for them all and they had the cartoon face on Bee too. On the other hand, the 1980s backing cards are so appealing. What to do...

I don't know about big US chains like that, but I would assume that they get a pretty sweet deal on the wholesale price. A lot of these 'exclusives' are for the US, but are offered to other retailers (like in Asia, where we see Walmart/Target exclusives available through Hasbro HK) and also to Australian retailers..... but its often difficult to convince retailers to CARRY these types of items. There have been items in the past that weren't a US exclusive, but no Aus retailer wanted to buy..... and then a deal was struck, and it was advertised as "exclusive to Big W" or "exclusive to Kmart". The impression I've always had is that Hasbro offers so much range we often miss out on items/waves, so if a retailer wanted to have an exclusive it would be pretty easily had.

The Minibots and Devastator have now been listed on the Walmart site (https://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/walmart-exclusive-g1-devastator-and-minibots-available-for-preorder/41810/), so might be found in stores over there soon.
Devastator is US$74, while three of the four Minibots are US$8. For some reason, Walmart is scalping their own exclusives based on expected demand, by selling Bumblebee at US$9, despite the other three being "rarer" for having less units of each in the master cartons.
Galvatran
9th August 2018, 07:14 PM
I'd hardly call USD9 scalping.
griffin
9th August 2018, 08:39 PM
Scalping doesn't mean that the price has to be so high that most people wouldn't be willing to pay for it... it just means that people are forced to pay a higher price than it's RRP or the price of the items it was released with. Just look at the recent BigW cheap Titans Return toys - people were seen to be grabbing Voyagers up by the trolley load, preventing others from getting them for $15 - even if those people put them on ebay for $30, still below the normal retail of $50, I'd still call that scalping.
The point I was trying to make, is that regular retailers are not known for pricing items in the same assortment / case differently, just to make the most out of their customers, because one item is expected to be in higher demand. Items are generally priced according to the wholesale cost of the items, and the four minibots are sold to Retailers together, not separately, so would normally get priced as such. I just don't think I've ever seen a major/national retailer do this before. And since Walmart have prevented other retailers in America from selling them, if they charge above what a product should be charged at (according to the other items in the same assortment, or RRP), I think it fits the definition of scalping.

Yep I'm sorry Griffin I need to side with Galvatran on this one. It's their own exclusive line, they can put whatever RRP they want on them. And you just know those Bumblebees are going to fly off the shelf quicker than the rest except for maybe Outback given it's only one to a case. At the end of the day they're only pricing them $1-$2 more than the others.
This is no different to a coloured PS4 controller being priced higher than a black controller. Or in our case we are looking to buy a dog at the moment and all the breeders are charging more for one particular colour because they are more in demand than the rest.

No one would argue the example you provided. A more fair comparison would be if the seller sold it for $16 or $17. If you're a person of principle then yes you could make that argument. I'm more practical.

Wonder if Thundercracker & Skywarp will get a G1-style box reissue down the track. Can't get one without the other 2 right?

Toys R us recently priced their Studio Series Thundercracker at $10 above all their other Studio Series Voyager toys. I agree that it's technically 'scalping' from the perspective of a price point item being sold above that price point based on perceived popularity, but being the sole retailer, that's kind of their prerogative.

Price gouging for retailer, scalping by everyone else?

Dynamic pricing by retailer, scalping by everyone else. ;)

I can't help but think what could have been for the Thrilling 30 line. Would have been a worthy tribute to 30 years of Transformers.

Given the sellout online (though it's not clear how much stock they'd reserved for online sales versus retail) I would hope that it oconvinces both companies to consider further releases. If they do more seekers, I hope they include Starscream as a repack. To go into a retail store and see a full case of seekers like in '84 '85..... it would be a real dream come true.

Hotrod is now in Canada (http://news.tfw2005.com/2018/08/23/walmart-exclusive-g1-hot-rod-reissue-found-in-canada-370508), which is all of them over there... but the US are still waiting on them to be released.
It ended up being about AU$40, which probably isn't too bad, despite it being AU$25 the last time it was reissued here about 13 years ago.

Donald Trump closed the borders unfortunately... Hence why not showing up in the USA.

I'd hardly call USD9 scalping.
It's nearly double the price of TakaraTOMY's reissue Minibots (per bot).
Although I don't know what volume Hasbro are producing these toys at. I suspect that they may be more expensive due to being manufactured in smaller numbers. Still, you can still find some Encore reissues (e.g. Devastator) at cheaper prices than these.
Unless you really want to pay extra prices for new cardboard. ;) There may be other variations to the toy though, as can be seen here for Bumblebee (http://otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=25725). I don't feel like buying more reissues of G1 toys that I already own (and own reissues of as well as G1s) just for variations in the toys and packaging, but if that's your thing then more power to you.

It was amazing how very cheaply priced he was back then but he also had the very plain packaging compared to the other reissues. $40 seems about right all things considered.

You missed the point. It wasn't comparing price of TT reissues. It was squarely about US$9 for Bumblebee & US$8 for the other minibots from the same case assortment.
In any case, I side this this post. :D

I just opened my G1 Starscream, and was delighted to find out there are no eyes on the sticker sheet. They are either EXPERTLY pre-Applied or tamp-graph. Huge improvement on the original

Does it have the oversized crutch missiles or are they normal length?

I have a giddy feeling we'll see a Hasbro 35th anniversary edition of Optimus Prime in the G1-style box for 2019.

Finally showing up at American Walmart stores (http://news.tfw2005.com/2018/09/19/g1-starscream-reissue-found-at-us-walmart-371990) are Hotrod and Starscream.
Starscream was about US$35 plus tax... which if it was released here, would end up being about $60-70.
