If this thread is in the wrong place, slap me and let me know where it's been moved!

Anyhow, a few of months ago I purchased a g1 complete computron from the U.S. It came in all boxed up and nice, but when I opened it there was an extra baggy full of goodies! The seller threw in an extra computron rifle, a complete overkill cassette, g1 beachcomber+seaspray. Awesome!

Another fellow collector I've met also managed to pickup a fort max body from a non collector on ebay...only to find spike in the canopy when it arrived!

Just a couple of lucky stories I've come across.

Btw, those handful of people out there who've been lucky enough to pickup a fort max at op shops, I HATE YOU! :mad::D

Any other lucky collectors ?

You really need to start hating Jaydisc then. :D But don't worry, you wouldn't be alone either. ;)

I dunno, all those people who've scored freebies from Pulse. Oh wait... that includes me! :D

In terms of other lucky transactions, in my early collecting days three years ago now, I was strictly only into G1. I basically bought people's collections and kept what I needed. More often than not, these people would throw in extras. Of what I remember I got a few extra G1 Dinobots, Stuncticons, two Targetmasters and many accessories. The seller's were kind enough to include these just cos they found them. I eventually sold the accessories off as a lot and got $140 for them which really shocked me as up to that point in my newbie colection I had no idea how much G1 accessories cost. .

In my recent times, I've been lucky w/ a few eBay transactions were I get an extra mini-con or scout from time to time.

(and this should be in Kup's Discussion area, but don't worry, one of the mods will move it ;))

Ok, lucky acquisition, hmmmmm. ah yes. I purchased on ebay my G1 Piranahcon but was missing Overbite ( I knew this beforehand but it was a bargain so I went ahead). Since then i was looking at ebay constantly to find me the missing member, but I always end up getting outbid, or the price was too high for me, or the ones on sale were missing parts. After months I just didnt care to look for one. Then one TF lot was listed and I won it. I was only really after the G1 Dreadwing in the lot and didnt bother to look what else was in it figuring , meh, I could just sell off the ones I wont need or am double of.

Bulk lot turned out to be a very lucky lot coz a) it had the only seacon I was missing and just about given up with - complete with weapons and in good condition b) had grimlock's gun - which I was missing, but wasnt actively looking for c) had a junker predacon which I used to complete my current Headstrong's horn to make it all better d) had Spinister which I wasnt expecting but am quite happy to have coz then my minor Targetmasters Decepticons was complete e) there were a few other weapons in the lot that I need but wasnt actively looking for but ended up being there already am quite pleased as it saved me a whole heaps if I were to buy those separately. :D

Ooer... so many to think about... let's see...

+ In 1986 when Transformers The Movie came out, a newspaper ran a Transformers art competition. I entered it then months later I assumed that I hadn't won and forgot about it. In early 1987 the postie came to our door just before I was going to school and delivered a parcel with my name on it (the first time I'd ever received mail!). I'd won Battletrap as a prize in that newspaper art comp!! :D Hurrah!
+ In 1988 while walking home from school I literally found Ravage on the footpath. :)
+ In the late 1990s and early 2000s a lot of my friends and relatives who used to collect Transformers in the 1980s gave their old Transformers to me for free - as I was the only one still collecting. Except for one cousin... who had Time Warrior... and has now lost it. *sigh* Still, I literally got boxloads of G1 and G2 Transformers from friends and relos who had 'grown out' of playing with their Transformers. Hurrah! :)
+ A uni friend of mine came up to me one day and just gave me - for free - a complete near mint in box Sixshot toy!
+ In 2002 I ordered Megaplex from e-Hobby and my name was automatically entered into a lucky draw. I won silver chrome Bluestreak.
+ In 2004 when I got MP Convoy (most of you know this story) it was missing a small part. I contacted Takara who sent me a replacement part and a bunch of freebies as an apology for their faulty product. I got a free pewter Star Convoy PVC and some Transformer stickers. :)
+ I know we get Transformers as gifts all the time, but I once received a Transformer (Hightail) as a birthday present from one of my students! I also received Robot Heroes Blackout and Optimus Prime from my student-teacher last year.
+ I (and several other people here and TAAU) got a free ticket to see the advanced screening of Transformers at Fox Studios - got to meet Michael Bay, Megan Fox, Rachael Taylor and Deni Hines (she was standing next to me in the queue to see the movie :p)

Pity it's only to the same people all the time.

As for me, more like bargains than lucky.

~$20 complete mint g1 blitzwing.
~$26 g1 mint jetfire (jet only, but still. :) )
~$20-30 alt shockwave and mirage misb.

I was lucky enough to win 2 free tickets to see the 2007 movie at Greater Union in a comp they had going with Target last year! :)

I thought that was pretty cool, but then...

I got another call from them saying that I'd also won the major national prize, which was for me and 20 people to go and see the film in Gold Class with all our food and beverages for free! That was probably my luckiest TF experience! :)

Certainly not on par with those G1 stories... but I scored a sealed Robots in Disguise Optimus Prime for $12 from a Nexus a few years back. Box was in pretty good shape too... I was shocked, paid my pennies and walked of in a half run. :p

The event that started my collecting TFs again after my mum gave all my G1 TFs (there were lots) away was a lucky one:
* Overlord complete and C9 for $4.00
* Snapdragon complete and C9 for $4.00
Full story here (http://heroicdecepticon.blogspot.com/1999/08/origin-story-part-ii-1999-re-awakening.html)

* MIB Metalhawk for $70 because the seller though it wasn't complete. Turns out all the parts and paperworks were under the plastic tray.
* MISB Grand Max for a grand because seller wanted to spite my friend who offered him $250 and he felt insulted. Full story here (http://heroicdecepticon.blogspot.com/2007/10/grand-daddy-of-transformers-going-to-hk.html)
* MISB Victory Saber giftset. Got that from my friend by exchanging it with him for a (lousy) VF-1S with GBP Armour giftset. Full story here (http://heroicdecepticon.blogspot.com/2008/02/road-to-victory-part-02-aquisition.html)
* Bought a Victory Saber for A$120 from HK and sold it for $369 pounds to an English guy.
* Bought a big plastic bag of Transformers for $120- bag includes stuff like complete Deszaras, Liokaiser, Landcross, Piranacon, lots of micromasters, 2 sets of Constructicons and etc. He wanted $150, but I bargained it down. heh.

... probably more, can't remember them all :p

Hehe yeh...if I had heard about heroic's lucky finds first, I wouldn't have listed my puny finds on this thread lol.

Btw recently read about a transfan opening up some old boxes in the attic...only to find a mint set of sealed g2 orange constructicons...apparently his mum bought them for him when he was younger and he totally forgot about them. Talk about finding a big chunk of rarenesssneessneess in your own home...

The best tf thing I've "found" in my house was an old g2 decepticon stalker missile :cool:

Seeing this comment makes my heart glad I spend a few measly pesos on getting my Orange G2 Constructicons. Although Griffin has told me its rare ( and quite expensive), I never really appreciated it much before that coz these were everywhere in Philippines stores when G2 came out. They were even put on sale after a few weeks later on (which is when I got to complete it heheheh). Only reason I picked it up was the yellow ones didnt have the combiner parts to make Devastator (but are priced just the same- hmm go figure) and that I knew HasTak will never reissue the green ones again so I might as well get this ones.

my lucky acquisition is these:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=130263107989

bought them cheap, then was reading later, seeing people were spending like $50USD on one of them. im just sad i know theyre not going to fit me :(
still i will get them on and scream out MASTERFORCE :P

(talk about being in the right place at the right time... :D)

on the flip side, I've my fair share of flops like:

* buying an MIB Godbomber for $400, only to see it reissued as part of the the God Ginrai gitfset a few months after;
* buying MISB Road Caesar (individual boxes) for $450 but having to sell them at $400 rightaway cos I had no money to fund them at the time;
* having a 3 cartons of Brave Maximus (6 in total) and literally begging people to buy them from me at $200 a pop, plus giving them free door to door delivery (should have kept them yes i know :mad:);
* passing on a C7 Dinoking giftset for $500 cos I thought the condition not up to my (silly) high expectations;
* seeing a stack of first release Sunstorms for $60 each but passing on them in favour of buying 2 pieces of overpriced Armada Unicrons for $140 each (wtf?!?);

and... this is stupid

* buying Greatshots complete and C9.5 from HK and selling it for $300 thinking I could find another one for a fraction of that price... but noooooo, I've not seen another since or anywhere near that price range... :(

GoktimusPrime
6th November 2008, 12:49 PM
$140 is a decent price for Unicron. That thing sold for about $145 RRP.

I recently found and singularly bidded on a 1986 g1 complete boxed superion giftset on ebay. I managed to pick it up for $30US...but it felt wrong. It's not that I recently sold off my entire g1 series and to have this was "out of place"...but I felt bad for the seller.

He's a 0 fb score brand spanking new ebay member and listed it incorrectly. I don't even know how I found it to begin with! He listed it in the "others" category and had a title somewhere along the lines of "arialbots for sale I have all of them" :confused:

Anyhow, guilt took hold and I told him to relist it under g1 with a title "Transformers G1 1986 Superion Giftset Complete". He should be able to net $160+ or so now.

It was definately a lucky one to have let go!
