Yeh what's up with Hound? We saw a painted prototype last year and now it's gone back to a grey one. Have they made changes to it?

Edit: So according to someone on TFW, there were issues with the butterfly shoulder joint and it wouldn't transform. So it has been redesigned and can now transform.

Never thought we would get an MP Blackarachnia, even with how popular she is in Japan. Can't wait to see the colour version and the transformation. I wonder how long until we get the Tarantulas version too.

Very cool, certainly looks like something deserving of the masterpiece title, but it will be waaaay out of my budget.

Given what I've seen with my LG Blackarachnia I doubt MP Blackarachnia is a partsformer. They did an amazing job remoulding Animated Blackarachnia into S1 BW Blackarachnia. Being able to make a larger more complex figure reduces the need for parts forming further.

This robot mode is so good that I'm kinda worried if the spider mode is gonna be seriously compromised. If not that's some serious Takara magic they worked there. But then again MP-36 Megatron and Dinobot happened so I guess I should have faith in TT.:p

Ignore this seller -- they put up an insanely-priced listing for MP-44 when it first was revealed, then dialled back the price when the official RRP was announced.

I wouldn't disregard them that much. Bumblebee is on preorder for $137.90+GST - less than $15 less than Cordon ex-GST. I'd count on this figure being far closer to $300 than $200 on preorder.

Also I call BS on this tech-jump/price-jump argument. Cordon is in the exact same technology jump bracket as Bumblebee and co and Bumblebee is practically the same price as it.

A more likely explanation for the cost situation and why we're likely to be just as rorted on BA as every other upcoming MP release, is that the loss of the Pokémon license to Bandai did such a number on TT that much like a drowning person who tries to stay afloat by dragging the closest person down with them, TT are bleeding lines like Transformers dry, in a panicked, floundering effort to stay afloat.

Heck, Takara have given Siege Jetfire, a figure whose Hasbro release has an RRP of $79.99USD, a Japanese RRP of $238.68AUD (https://hlj.com/sg-26-transformers-siege-jetfire-tkt13658), or to compare apples and apples, $170.22 USD. To run the sums the Japanese RRP is 112% more than the US RRP for the exact same figure!

If I'm right, the pricing of the Masterpiece line isn't being done rationally, but reactionarily and it is only going to get worse until something gives out - which sadly could very well be the Masterpiece line itself before things improve.

People need to stop pretending these price hikes by Takara are even remotely fair, reasonable or rational and are anything other that Takara charging ridiculous prices to suck their customers dry in a desperate attempt to stay afloat.

This current pricing trend is nothing but blatant exploitation by Takara of its customer base. To support it and justify it given the current state of play, is not only an act of enabling bad behaviour, but an act of blatant masochism.

Their price for Bumblebee is accurate because the rest of the US stores have revealed their price and they have followed suit:

https://tfsource.com/masterpiece/mp-45-bumblebee/

https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/87983

https://www.thechosenprime.com/MP45BumblebeeV2

https://www.toydojo.com/transformers-masterpiece-mp-45-bumblebee-version-2-0/

https://collecticontoys.com/collections/all/products/transformers-masterpiece-mp-45-bumblebee

As I said in my original post, Collecticon Toys also jumped the gun with MP-44 and set his price at an insane amount -- I think it was $1000.

They subsequently dialled this price back and in-line with the rest of the US stores.

I'm not denying any of that - I'm simply saying that a price closer to $300 than 200 definitely fits the pricing trend. After all lest we forget that Cheetor was less than $100 and this new bumblebee is close to 2.5x the price of MP-21.

Yes but remember that's the RRP. With pre-order discounts this would come down to ~10,000 Yen (A$130) before shipping if purchased from one of the Japanese retailers. The person that posted the price claims to be a TT employee and has been on the money with other MP stuff so I expect this to be accurate. So that's quite reasonable compared to other recent MPs (MP-44, MP45 etc).

$130 seems a lot more reasonable, I'd be willing to pay that. Spose the price is still speculation at this point though. If she ends up super expensive then I'll have to bypass and save my money for Seige Jetfire and Omega.

If she is going to be cheaper with pre-orders, I can see them selling out fast. I never can navigate TTmall so I can just hope I log onto HLJ in the right timeframe to nab one.

I pre-order from Nippon-Yasan and they leave them open for months, they don't close quick. Anime-Export does sell out quick though but their pricing is no better than NY and at least with NY you don't have to pay up front. You can also choose to combine pre-orders before payment to save shipping. HLJ and AmiAmi are also good pre-order options.

that's alot of accessories. I knew that spider web+ stand would bump up the price.

She is more substantial than Cheetor, so i'm ok with this i guess. Cheetor's r.r.p is ~7k yen so she's twice that plus the accessories and more complex engineering.

I cannot think of too many repaint potentials for this mould other than a Hasbro toy-accurate redeco. Appeal for the Japanese market would be limited as they never had this deco in their market (original JP Black Widow had a more cartoon-like colour scheme so may be too similar to the standard version)

So.... have TakaraTomy sacrificed potential remoulds of Tarantulas and Tigatron just to make Blackarachnia and Cheetor more screen-accurate (for fans to spend hundreds of dollars on a toy that is more for display, than play).
It seems that the alt mode of Cheetor and both modes of Blackarchnia (the main body, not the legs, which could be easily swapped out for thicker tarantula legs), might not be able to support the engineering of transformation. Maybe that's why the BW Masterpieces are so much more expensive, because they can't factor in profit from redecos and remoulds like they could with most of the Gen1 MPs.

They are definitely highlighting it's poseability in robot mode, and I guess if the toy didn't do all those feminine poses and moves like in the cartoon, it wouldn't feel "real" as the ultimate (Masterpiece) Blackarachnia toy.

Also a promo video from TakaraTomy on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCbAjtDag5A).

Continuing the trend of recent MPs being released in America (with an extra outer "English" box for the American market), it looks like Blackarachnia (Blackwidow) will get an American release as well (https://hasbropulse.com/collections/preorders/products/takara-tomy-transformers-mp-46-blackwidow-beast-wars)... which means it could come here (if somewhere like Zing are interested).

You'd think they could go for a transmetals look with minor mods.

This toy will not be big, so those arachnid legs are probably about as thin as they can be,

].

Yeah she does at lot of feminine poses, but that first one always screams ‘C’mon y’all, Cotton-Eye Joe is a playin! Lets do-sie doe’ :D

I wonder if one of her accessories is a spittoon :p

I was quite surprised they didn’t do that with Generations Rhinox and Rattrap. I would have bought the Transmetal versions

New Blackarachnia images from a convention in Malaysia. Spider mode still looks like garbage.

someone posted a .gif of the transformation from the cartoon. i feel like with the way they cheat that a physical object cant and the more effort put into robot mode for this character i think the spider is decent enough

I think the spider mode is a great achievement for what the bot mode is.
They've deliberately elevated the spider bum to show off the underside.
It should look better once that bit is bent at a lower angle i think.

^ This. The bot mode looks amazing and clean from every angle. I can't see any kibble other than what is show accurate (like the spider legs on the arms). The spider mode is second priority to me.

Me too, I hope they make more MP, arachnids and insects.

Blackarachnia comes out in a week, and someone already has one in-hand, taking quite a few photos of it in both modes (https://news.tfw2005.com/2019/11/14/beast-wars-masterpiece-mp-46-blackarachnia-in-hand-images-400630), along with the existing Beast Wars Masterpiece toys.

The Asian release of Blackarachnia (outside of Japan) came with a bonus pin (https://news.tfw2005.com/2019/11/29/beast-wars-masterpiece-mp-46-blackarachnia-packaging-and-collectible-die-cast-pin-images-401412). The Soundwave reissue that came out in October also came with a similar bonus pin in Asia, suggesting that they have moved on from bonus coins to bonus pins.
