Wow, what a Jetfire! Hasbro truly went above and beyond with this one.

Firstly, let's address the bot mode. Well what can I say, it's a very show accurate "Skyfire" with extra detail than the animation model.
He has some good ratcheting, balances well and is pretty easy to pose.
He is about the same height as a CW/UW/POTP combiner for those wondering how much display space he will take up.

https://i.ibb.co/KWv3R98/Jetfire-Comparo-Bot-Armour.jpg (https://ibb.co/5LHft5J)
Personally, I'm not a fan of the armoured up mode and it wouldn't matter how it looked, as I bought this figure to be Skyfire from the G1 cartoon.
After I took these pics the armour pieces went straight into storage. However, I'm sure others will appreciate them and I don't blame Hasbro for doing it.

One of the neat touches in the bot mode is that he has retractable 5mm ports in his fists! I'm not kidding, straighten out his fingers and the ports fold away. Close his fingers and they pop out again, ready to hold his double barrel blaster! Speaking of which, that double barrel can split up into two single blasters if you like, similar to Classics Jetfire, but with retractable handles when combined.

Although he's not the first Transformer to have this feature, the swivelling faction symbol is neat too. Personally I think it was unecessary to include it, but I'm certainly not complaining.
Just an example of Hasbro going above and beyond, in a Masterpiece style.

https://i.ibb.co/rHfDg8D/Jetfire-Comparo-Jet.jpg (https://ibb.co/L1hVMjV)
The jet mode is just as fun as the bot mode. First of all, he looks just like in the cartoon and is massive!
Goes without saying, but yes he has retractable landing gear as all jets should.

https://i.ibb.co/1KLxqtX/Jetfire-Handles.jpg (https://ibb.co/XpbTsr5)
So massive that voyagers can swing off him with ease.

https://i.ibb.co/GVfy5rt/Cockpit.jpg (https://ibb.co/Vv0RqkQ)
With room in the front cockpit for one titan/prime master, as well as room at the top of the jet for two more titan/prime masters.

https://i.ibb.co/h2b1pwp/Jetfire-Fly.jpg (https://ibb.co/8Pq4FtF)
The blast effects for his weapons also work well at being jet-fire.

And on that last dad joke, I'll let myself out.... :p

The armour on both Classics and Thrilling 30 Jetfire looks a lot better, true - I'm not keen on the look of the helmet in particular.

Can't wait for this figure - good review!

Overall thoughts:
An absolutely gorgeous toy that I cannot wait to get - just take my money, Hasbro! :D While this toy is a Generations figure it wouldn't look out of place next to MPs either. If you ever wanted a Skyfire toy then this is it. The add-on armour is kind of ordinary and the chest piece doesn't lock in tightly. The helmet looks weird without having any laser cannons or even antennae... it makes him look more like Broadside. In terms of looking more like G1 Jetfire then I think the original Classics toy does a better job, but Siege Jetfire is your definitive Skyfire toy. :)

One minor gripe - the lower half of Jetfire's face is visible in jet mode. The backpack only covers his face from eyes up, so his mouth and chin are still visible. It's still tucked away behind the cockpit so it's not nearly as unforgivably bad as say, Energon Ironhide. It makes Jetfire look like he's wearing a VR helmet. :p But at the end of the day, this is a mass retail figure released at about 1.5x the price of a Leader Class figure and I'd say that it delivers top value for money. Certainly more than some other overpriced MPs, but let's not hound that point. ;)

Highly recommended.

Surprisingly, yes. Although it's kind of pointless as he has a backpack behind his head (which of course is show accurate).

The retractable 5mm hole is such an ingenious idea. I really hope that more toys will feature this in the future, especially MPs. It's so much better than just having a slot and tab for articulated hands to feebly hold onto weapons. Then again, it might only be something that's possible with larger hands like Jetfire's. It would admittedly be harder to execute this on smaller figures. But still, if the size allows it then I'd like to see HasTak continue this innovation. :) This is seriously a great kilometrestone in Transformers engineering. Please run with this, HasTak!

Best retail TF that’s been released in a while. Non intrusive gimmicks out the wazoo and a very good likeness.

Put one with your ‘84 Bots, one with ‘85 Bots. Alternatively, one with Bots and other with Cons.

Is the blue panel on top of the the jet mode, just under the guns, translucent? And even if not is it meant to be a secondary cockpit or is it simply meant to be a bit of cartoon-accurate colour? Given the other Autobots sometimes rode in the back of Jetfire I thought maybe its the window they look out of.

I’m a bit befuddled as to how to attach the black vertical guns in armoured robot mode. The instructions (and even Tha_Phantom and Goktimus’s pics) have them sitting correctly - but I can’t see how they attach.

Anyone care to share how to? I’m feeling a bit of a nuffy...

Edit: Never mind, worked it out :)

These are most but not all of my Jetfires. ;) I couldn't be bothered including my ROTF Legends and Leader Class Jetfires. :p

Why do I have so many Jetfire's/Skyfire's?!?
Because a good toy is still a good toy regardless of what you think about the character. Look at Hubcap. He's arguably one of the better Autobot Mini-Vehicles in the 1986 line and yet the character's a butthole. And Wheelie is the weakest of those Mini-Bots regardless of what you think about the character; if we look outside of the G1 cartoon we can find a lot of fairly decent representations of the Wheelie character (as a Bear Grylls-like survivalist and not the annoying and campy "Jar Jar Binks"-like thing from the 'toon)... but none of that matters because G1 Wheelie is just a rubbish toy. Similarly I think that Titans Return Wheelie is a really nice toy; you may agree or disagree with me, but my opinion of the toy has zero connection with the character. I just think it's a well designed figure.

And same with Jetfire. G1 Jetfire has an impressive range of articulation for a G1 toy, it looks great and has an imposing size. It has all self-contained parts (no detachable fists, wings, landing gears etc.) and the gun and armour can be attached in both robot and jet modes. The quad-lasers on the head* means that Jetfire can never be disarmed, even if you were to lose the rifle and armour. It's just a jolly well designed toy (shame that the shoulders are notoriously fragile). And I would say the same for Classics Jetfire too, that's also a superbly designed figure. Classics Jetfire's armour/weapons arguably offer superior play value that Siege Jetfire's as you've got missile launchers and deployable cannons that can swing up and down (which allows the toy to pay homage to both the Super Valkyrie and Strike Valkyrie from Macross!). Classics Jetfire is a really nice blend between both the G1 Jetfire toy and Skyfire aesthetics, whereas Siege Jetfire is really just Skyfire with not much homaging the original Jetfire. And this isn't a criticism, I get that that's the entire point of Siege Jetfire's design; he is meant to be a cartoon-accurate Skyfire. But little things like the absence of quad-lasers on the helmet diminishes its fidelity to the original Jetfire design; his helmet looks more like Broadside than Jetfire to me. :p Generations Jetfire is by far the weakest of the CHUG Jetties, but I still love this toy due to the political history behind it. :D But I must admit that this is a terribly subjective and biased reason... objectively speaking Generations T30 Jetfire is kinda forgettable.

Classics and Siege Jetfire are my all time favourite Jetties as I reckon that they pack loads of value for money; both are well worth their respective RRPs. :)

https://i.ibb.co/YjDDnhv/temp.jpg
(yes, I know that SS Jetfire isn't 2009; this is more of a timeline of the designs in TFs rather than the toys. Translation: because I CBB to take out ROTF Jetfire :p :p #lazy)

---------------------------------------------------------
*From a Transformers POV the fact that G1 Jetfire's head just sticks out like a sore thumb does make it look a bit goofy. Even the Seekers tuck their heads underneath the cockpits. I understand that from a Macross POV it makes sense because it's a weapon for the Fighter and Gerwalk modes, but it arguably doesn't translate as well for a Transformer. Ditto the lack of any real attempt to conceal the legs in fighter mode. It's similar to say the heads on G1 Ironhide and Ratchet which make perfect sense in the context of Diaclone but they haven't translated as well for Transformers. I personally don't mind any of this; I love the heads on all of these toys, but I get why some TF fans aren't fond of them.

I'm trying to find things to type that haven't already been typed or said.

First, I'm surprised that it's taken this long to make a screen-accurate Skyfire. The 2015 Generations leader figure looked alright, but the vehicle mode was still based on the Valkyrie. It's easy to be cynical of yet another Classics/Generations line made of G1-styled figures, but this is something we've never seen Hasbro make before.

It's very easy to be effusive and gush praise on the figure, because it was so well-done and looks great. I'm trying to think of negatives, and honestly some of it feels like nitpicking: the jet mode has quite a few gaps in it, it's tough to unlock the ankle tilt joints for inversion of the feet, and the nose gear is difficult to open, at least on mine.

Who here remembers Day of the Machines? (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/transformers/images/1/18/Skyfire_Gerwalk.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20070827172740)

I remember thinking that the new larger Commander size class would make Jetfire roughly the same size as old leaders, before Hasbro/TakaraTOMY started downsizing, and I'm glad to have been wrong. Here he is next to the Jetfire/Optimus combination from 2009:

While this toy is a Generations figure it wouldn't look out of place next to MPs either. If you ever wanted a Skyfire toy then this is it.

No kidding. Given that Shogo Hasui had a hand in this figure (John Warden drops his name at 7:16 of this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Or4CfXk64A)), it's not really surprising.

Here he is next to some MPs. While he seems a bit small to be 'accurately' scaled, he's not so small that he'll look ridiculously undersized:

Jetfire AKA Skyfire was a bit of an anomaly in the G1 cartoon; he came and went quite quickly but he did make his presence felt while he was around. He had an intriguing backstory due to his camaraderie with Starscream, and after his defection he proved his worth both by helping troops into battle and with his intellect before he disappeared prior to The Animated Movie and wasn't to be seen all through Season 3. But he did get more character development in Marvel, Dreamwave and IDW incarnations, and has cemented himself as a bit of a fan favourite. I was going to pass on Jetfire due to my tight budget, but long story short, I managed to snap him up with some pretty high expectations based off images and in-hand reports. As he was only known as Skyfire in the cartoon, I'll keep on the Jetfire track, and for simplicity i'm calling his alt mode a jet.

Oh me oh my. I only got this figure this morning after a weeks worth of anticipation and let me tell you, he's not disappointing me.

The boxart is on point with much of the Siege line, with a little 'sneak peek' at Omega Supreme in the background. Jetfire is displayed charging into battle on the front; on the back it shows off his robot mode, 'jet' mode, armoured mode and his accessories.

But we're not here for the box art are we! Lets dive in!

Jetfire is packaged in Robot Mode and is nicely tied in. Mine was actually quite tight in his inner cardboard lining and it took a bit of force to prise him out (I was concerned i'd have to destroy the box to get him out but fortunately not!) NOTE: His backpack is mistransformed in his packaged configuration. I didn't find this out until I was armouring him up and realised the back 'gun/missile' pods weren't matching the height the stock photo's and instructions were showing. Fortunately it was an easy fix once I perused YouTube and didn't hinder any of his movements.

Jetfire is a HEFTY boy! His weight is fortunately backed by a lot of solid joints. He feels REALLY good in robot mode and can hold his own. In his stock 'scientist' mode (as I call it), he really evokes his G1 cartoon self. The ability to switch factions is a really neat touch that they didn't have to include but I'm glad Hasbro did. His head features light piping, can look up and down nicely and can rotate 360 degrees. He has ratcheted shoulders, rotation at the arm, really tight double-ratcheted elbows and wrist swivels. One neat feature of the hands is that when open they have a really natural pose but when you close them up, a peghole appears for weapns! Very cool. Unfortunately one slight let down I have with this comes from the transformation of the hands; the assembly is on a hinge which is held in by a little plug and both of mine keep coming loose. Also my right hand swivel is a little looser than the left. Still useable though and only little nitpicks that can be easily overcome. He also has waist rotation; again very stiff on mine but much better than being 'loosey goosey'

Moving down, Jetfire has both ratcheted and swivel hips, ratcheted knees, and ankle tilts. The ankle tilts have INCREDIBLY stiff locking mechanisms to begin with; one of mine was already unlocked but the other one I had to apply a lot of pressure to get it to unlock. It freaked me out a bit but nothing broke. He also has moveable toes and heels. I have no doubt you'd be able to make a huge amount of poses with him with minimal effort.

Now it's time to armour him up for combat!

https://scontent.fmel2-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.15752-9/70384837_388670111804227_7578554245733941248_n.jpg ?_nc_cat=108&_nc_oc=AQku3Yn6Taubw3XuCEYM1HiLZ9_fCe3qlgUbm5OpfSt rUM7UrWGNV9AU735MF92e_hQ&_nc_ht=scontent.fmel2-1.fna&oh=05b7bfc7d6c806bfcd1b227542c9acd6&oe=5E0D2979
His accessories are really neat; he gets a breastplate with 'hidden' helmet storage. The breastplate clips on to the front via two little tabs. Again, very tight, but fortunately I had some plastic tools I could use to prise them out and attach the armour. The helmet was a little trickier to line up but once on it stays in place nicely. And the light piping still works; you get to see two little glowing blue eyes. Very cool. (Sorry I couldn't capture the effect, as I was using my phone for photos). Jetfire also comes with two double-barreled cannon 'gauntlets', a pair of rifles which can be combined into a single one, two 'trident' gun/missile thingamies which can be split in two also, and two missiles for his wings. Attaching the parts is easy although the nubs on his wingtips are again very stiff; I prised mine out with aforementioned plastic tool but if you 'flap' the wings a bit they come out a little easier.

All armoured up, Jetfire looks like a whole new toy, and it really elevates his overall feel. He evokes his IDW 'Stormbringer' look along with homaging his roots as the Macross VF-1 Valkyrie in robot form. The blast effects are fantastic and can be split into three and added to his weapons or his body to show him taking fire. He is truly a patriotic Autobot in this mode as his breastplate proudly shows his Autobot allegiance.

Size comparison wise, I compared him to my largest toy (at the time), God Ginrai. And he IS taller by some margin. He's now my biggest, and from a comparison perspective when compared to God Ginrai, he's a LOT more poseable! His backpack does little to hinder him because of his feet, balance and stability.

And now its time for......

Jet mode!

Transforming into jet mode for the most part is easy and fun; there are just a few tabbing alignment issues I had but I soon managed to stick it all together. Where the head ends up is pretty genius too.

Jet mode is truly a sight to behold and has a really nice presence. It feels solid once everything is tabbed together and really captures the G1 cartoon feel Jetfire had. Even in this mode there's a lot of playability. He has retractable landing gear with rolling wheels, wing flaps, and you can remove his little 'techno-kibble' inside his cockpit and fit a Titan or Prime Master in there (the kibble also has a small hole you can peg it elsewhere if you need to). There's also supposed to be a 'backseat driver' cockpit for two additional Titan/Prime Masters but I can't for the life of me get mine to open (EDIT: After I'd finished with this review I'd managed to work it out, you have to fully open up the backpack to reveal them. I was done photographing by this stage, sorry!). His faction symbol can also still be changed here.

The underside of Jetfire is a biiiiit of a mess of leftover robot parts, which is a shame if you want to pose him in jet mode (he has a deeply recessed peghole perfect for a stand) but he does have some nifty pegs for figures to hold and dangle off him. This is a pretty cool addition as your Siege figures can ride with him into battle!

His armor and weapons all compact into a nifty little package that you can plug directly on top of the 'flight pod', or you can detach them and use them elsewhere if you wish. You could also use this combination as a bit of a mega-cannon for Jetfire to wield though it is pretty heavy in this form. The blast effects can all combine and attach to his engines to make him look like he's just engaged his afterburners.

Jet mode is just as much fun as Robot Mode and has many different play patterns available to him, or you can just sit him somewhere and bask in his glory. His alt mode is by far the biggest alt mode I have in my collection. I took a shot of him next to Triggerhappy for reference.

He can to SOME degree. If you're holding him and/or have a stand you can peg him into, he does a passable enough job. It's a shame he can't hold his own (at least not the way I've got him configured) because he's too front-heavy, but he gave it his best shot! I found folding up the backpack helps a bit for balance, but ultimately you can't get out of holding him unless you have an aforementioned stand.

Overall, I love this figure. Solid, poseable, packed with features, little nods to his various incarnations, Jetfire is definitely value for money and I heartily recommend him to G1, Siege and any Transformer fan looking for a big lad who can charge onto your battlefield for either side.

Hey dude, just letting you know that there's already a pre-existing review thread for Siege Jetfire here (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php/26562-Toy-Review-Siege-Jetfire) :)

Suggestion to mods: merge threads?

They got merged. Thanks griff!

I've just basically taken it out of the box and armoured it up but I love the size and how imposing it looks. Sometimes I don't think you realise how big a figure is in photos!

Absolutely :) My collection is only very small so I don't have a huge amount I can compare it to, but my next biggest 'bot is God Ginrai and even though he was imposing, I actually find Jetfire is the superior figure. Why? Playability!

God Ginrai is great from the fact that they did a good job being animation accurate, he stands out in a 'crowd', has many accessories, and multiple modes available to the pair. You are literally getting two (large) robots in one (plus the titan masters) BUT from a playability/stability perspective? He's not so great. He's super fiddly, has a lot of parts which if knocked can either fall off or move, and even when combined his backpack is so damn heavy he topples over all the time. Jetfire has none of these flaws from my current time with him, and with his armor and guns and faction-switching ability can be at least THREE robots in one (Autobot, Decepticon, Armored autobot)

It's a good figure and I'm happy with him overall, but the alt mode being full of gaps annoys me - it's pretty unnecessary when all it had to do was turn into a brick with wings

Nice comparison shot. I've seen Jetfire compared to Siege Optimus but it's nice to see him next to a large MP robot.

My only real gripe woth this otherwise great figure os that the nose doesn't really peg in for vehicle mode. It's sort of held in place by some adjacent pieces that tab on to some very flimsy plastic. No where near as solid as I'd like.

I grabbed this guy for $100 delivered from Amazon AU, an absolute bargain! I only collect MP (although I have a G1 collection too) but I couldn't say no to this guy! He is pretty amazing really, maybe 1 or 2 differences to make it MP level but that's really nitpicking. Really, my only gripe is that my example has 2 scratches on it. Not hugely noticeable though. I highly recommend this figure.

Just transformed for the first time, bit disappointed in the process and the jet mode. Very gappy and basic. Robot mode definitely the highlight.

I usually struggle with complex transformations, but found Jetfire to be a fairly simple process, though still taking me a few minutes. The more I play with him the more I love him, so much so that I bought a second from Amazon so I have a separate Jetfire and a separate Skyfire. For anyone who missed him and was waiting for a non-existent retail release (THANKS NZ FOR TAKING OUR STOCK) I'd highly recommend getting him online such as amazon.com.au

It's going to be a holy grail toy that people will chase after in decades to come.

I didn't see any Jetfires in NZ so they've apparently sold out by the end of 2019.

Thes two comments cover my concerns as well. While the robot mode is pretty damn spanking, the vehicle mode is pretty atrocious. It only looks good from the top. Why is this? Admittedly though, in jet mode, mainly because of its size, it extremely swooshable and the more I look at it, the more forgiving I become.
But come on man, transformation isn't all that complex and the vehicle is that gappy??? It's also somewhat awkward. Having to wiggle the shins up over the thighs and then connect the leg boosters to the backpack booster just seems really fiddly. I often find the locking tab for the legs comes undone while I mess about with the boosters.

Kind of final whinge is the titan master seats in the booster back pack. I have to unplug the legs and boosters to access that seat? They couldn't have come up with a better way? That is almost as bad the Ark Titan figure, where you pretty much have to half transform the torso to access the bridge for the minifigures.

Quite obviously all the work went into robot mode, which is pretty nice. But the plastic doesn't feel as good as I'd like it. It's a tad bendy and cheap feeling. Or is that just me?

The armoured mode for robot looks nothing like JetSkyfire in any way at all, but I do think it looks pretty awesome. It just becomes another character. Definitely has an "air guardian" feel to it. I'd be likely to use the armoured mode for the Shattered Glass version TBH. It's a shame the armour just sits on top of the plane like a big blocky thing. Coz it looks daft.

Now that I have bought this guy, I've finished getting all the commanders released so far, and it's a good thing I got him late. If I had picked him up first, I would be much more sceptical of the commander class toys. Jetfire is definitely the weakest.

Lots of whingeing in this post, but generally, I like Jetfire and it's a decent enough figure with good presence on the shelf. Probably not quite worth a lot of dollars and I wouldn't recommend paying through the nose for one.

For a bit of reference, I've been undecided on Jetfire for a long time. Here in Japan, he got a regular release, but the numbers were so limited, I never saw one on the shelves. PLUS he was expensive, coming in at the 19800 yen (compared to the other commanders a 15000ish) and considering how Icould generally grab at Titan class figure for about 22000 yen, Jetfire seemed a bit to pricey for his worth. This one I found nice and cheap, so decided to bit the bullet, with a bit of peer pressure.

Gah, the board deleted my reply and I can't recover it. :(

In summary...
Jetfire's animation model has gaps and non-aerodynamic recesses; can't blame a toy for being source-accurate. Even MP Skyfire has gaps (although less pronounced, but it's also a significantly dearer toy)
https://i.ibb.co/tsGY916/temp.jpg
The cockpit is non-essential Easter egg. Improving it would've exceeded the toy's budget.
Yes, the armour is daft. Blah blah copyright blah. But given that this toy is based on the cartoon model, who's going to display Siege Jetfire in armoured robot mode? How many MP collectors display Skyfire with the faceplate on?
Jetfire has a simpler transformation than other Commanders, but I also find this toy a lot more fun to play with than say Rodimus Prime (which I find laboriously tedious to transform)
Plastic quality is fine on mine. The whites are mismatched, but it was like that out of the box, not due to partial yellowing. I do find that annoying.
When it comes to buying older toys, I recommend try before you buy. Meet up with another collector who owns one and see for yourself.

You raise some mansplainy points there Gok my old chum.

Gah, the board deleted my reply and I can't recover it. :(

This is why if I end up typing a lot on this board, I copy paste it into a txt doc before posting.

In summary...
Jetfire's animation model has gaps and non-aerodynamic recesses; can't blame a toy for being source-accurate. Even MP Skyfire has gaps (although less pronounced, but it's also a significantly dearer toy)
Okay, I'll concede on this point, but from a toy point of view it's pretty sloppy and I don't think the animation model has so many bit where you can see right through the guy. Plus (this may be me) but the nose of the jet is always wobbly.

The cockpit is non-essential Easter egg. Improving it would've exceeded the toy's budget.

This is a hasbro problem, not an end user problem. If they're gonna add something that enhances play factor, they should do it properly. I'd be happier if they skipped it entirely, because I wouldn't know. But now that I know, and find it frustrating to use, I am frustrated. - To summarise, it is a half arsed non-essential easter egg.

I suspect not many people make use of this easter egg (because of its difficulty in use) and if they hadn't included it, everyone's opinions would be the same as they are now. (Mine a tad better in fact)

Yes, the armour is daft. Blah blah copyright blah. But given that this toy is based on the cartoon model, who's going to display Siege Jetfire in armoured robot mode? How many MP collectors display Skyfire with the faceplate on?
Firstly, nowhere did I mention MP Jetfire and his mask, so that is a moot point.
I was mainly referring to the armour on the Jet mode looking daft. From a design point of view, it would've been nicer if it could fit in a bit better to make the already bulky jet more sleek and aerodynamic.

When the robot mode is armoured up, I think it looks awesome. It also doesn't look anything like Jetfire, which I don't have problem with. Hence my comment about Shattered Glass Jetfire using the armoured robot mode.

Jetfire has a simpler transformation than other Commanders, but I also find this toy a lot more fun to play with than say Rodimus Prime (which I find laboriously tedious to transform)
Indeed he does, and yet, the connection of the boosters to the boosters and leg clicky-in-bits don't work all that well together. It's a tad fiddly and requires a bit of messing around. Therefore, it should be a bit better designed. As a minor aside, I rather enjoy Rodimus Prime's transformation and yes, while it does take some time to do, I still rather enjoy it.

Plastic quality is fine on mine. The whites are mismatched, but it was like that out of the box, not due to partial yellowing. I do find that annoying.
I think the plastic is fine, but it does feel a little bendy. Although TBH, I'd prefer bendy plastic that bends over rigid plastic that snaps. ;)

When it comes to buying older toys, I recommend try before you buy. Meet up with another collector who owns one and see for yourself.
Yes, I would have preferred this option as well, but alas, it never occurred, and so here we are now.
