View Full Version : Poll: Will you be buying Unicron?

BigTransformerTrev

Full credit should go to MayzaPrime (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php/26574-Fan-backed-Hasbro-project-Transformers-War-For-Cybertron-Unicron?p=614586#post614586) for this as it was his idea :)

ARE YOU ORDERING UNICRON?

With 16 days to go, the current numbers for people who have preordered Unicron sit at 2562 backers, according to the Hasbro Pulse website (https://hasbropulse.com/products/transformers-war-for-cybertron-unicron). Pretty short of the 8000 that is apparently required by August 31st. This means they need to get an average of 340 orders a day between now and the end of the month.

Of course, many are speculating that there could be a big rush at the end as people decide they want this figure after all. Others have suggested that maybe the numbers will get 'accidentally' fudged so that it appears 8000 have ordered, or even that the deadline might be extended, thereby giving Hasbro Pulse the opportunity to avoid both embarrassment and/or a fan backlash.

At any rate, it would be interesting to know how many Ozformer members have ordered this figure. You can either vote anonymously or otherwise vote and tell us what you personally are doing in regards to this big toy :)

Personally I had given up on getting Unicron, but when I saw the deal they had going at ZING (https://www.zingpopculture.com.au/product/collectibles/256138-transformers-war-for-cybertron-unicron-27-figure) I preordered one for myself :)

I was going to get one somehow, but when the zing pre-order came up I jumped on it. theres still a small voice in the back of my head telling me to order two, I try not to listen to that voice.

It's looking like there are going to be some nice features with the maw opening and closing, the face being replaceable with a battle damaged version, the head being removable, the teeth can be retracted so you can't see them in his mouth. I really do hope they go ahead with it.

The number of backers on the Pulse site is misleading as it does not include international orders. Ì was always going to source one and thankfully Zing decided to import it. I think that decision will see a lot of Aussie collectors grab it now. I'm confident it will get made.

Probably gonna put my deposit on in the next week or so. I have birthday funds to use, which is nice.

Payments before 2021 shouldn’t be too hard.

It’s a no from me haha. My collection is Jazz and the Autobots, Unicron is neither of those so not a good fit.:p
He looks cool and I appreciate the cartoon accuracy, but that’s it.

People buying more than one: why? Do you normally buy multiples or is this a one off?

Its a figure that is equally as impressive/imposing in both modes, and so I think I'd want to display both modes.
I don't normally buy multiples, but as I mostly have masterpieces the various repaints allow for display of molds in both modes that way

I mostly buy doubles - one to display, one to keep sealed. So decided this was worth getting two.

Since Hasbro are apparently going to add international orders to Hasbro Pulse at some point I'm pretty confident they will either reach 8000 legitimately or they will just fudge it and say it made the 8000 mark.

It would be rather embarrassing for Hasbro to not just have Cookie Monster fail (https://hasbropulse.com/products/cookie-monster) but also have Unicron fail.

But... Jazz was inside Unicron in the movie. Surely that accounts for something?

What if... they added bonus items of mini figurines of the characters that were running around inside Unicron at the end of the movie, which included Jazz... would you buy it then, just to have the Jazz complete with it's "bonus" Unicron figure? ;) :p

Yeah I see where you’re coming from, especially with a lot of fans calling this MP Unicron.

Based on the pics of your collection I think this is pretty on brand for you. I’d be surprised if you weren’t getting two!

Thanks for the responses guys, I appreciate your perspectives.

Yes and I hate this idea lol. Ideally I’d try to find another collector to sell me their Jazz from their set, but if I had to buy it myself I wouldn’t be keeping Unicron.

Just don't fall into a trap of leaving it all until the end. I have in the past with preorders with EB. But now not with my DOOM and Darksiders, I've paid most of them off and they're not til end of the year.

I voted 'no', due to lack of space.

If i didn't have storage/display problems, i would get one (two if it were sold in G1 packaging or as an MP, one for play and the second MISB).

I wasn't expecting the "I haven't and wont be" vote to be that high in proportion to the "I've ordered 1" vote.

I hope BBTS and others haven't put their orders in yet on Hasbro Pulse and will be placing them soon. The closer we get to the end with such a low number the more I worry that we won't get him. Overall I'm still fairly confident we will get him, but I'm starting to have doubts.

Only 2710 backers at the moment.

I?m undecided. Usually a figure either is an immediate must-buy, or it tends to swim inside my head for some time. Unicron is doing neither of these things for me.

MayzaPrime

I was originally going to skip Unicron... but like most of us here when Zing put up preorders I jumped on it thanks to a text message from DaptoDog.

GoktimusPrime
20th August 2019, 08:23 PM
It all boils down to whether or not you're going to regret purchasing or regret skipping this toy. If you think that you're going to feel buyer's remorse then skip it. If you're going to feel, uh, skipper's remorse?... then get it. Sure beats paying some stupid scalper's above RRP later on.

"But what if I'm undecided?"
Then pre-order it from EB/Zing. Seriously. The great thing about pre-ordering from EB/Zing is that you are under no obligation to complete your purchase. You can change your mind at any time up until opening the damn toy. EB/Zing allow you to cancel at any time, even after the toy has arrived for you and any money that you've deposited will be refunded. Even after you purchase the toy and bring it home, as long as you haven't opened the toy and it's still a recent purchase, you can still bring it back and refund it. This is the great thing about pre-ordering/purchasing from a brick and mortar store; change of mind and refunds are so much easier! And really, you've got about 16 months to think about it; and at any time you can cancel your order.
(Source: I explicitly spoke with an EB employee about this)

But yeah, who cares if other people want to buy it or not? Unless you're a completist then we ALL selectively choose to purchase and not purchase specific toys. We all have our essential and non-essential purchases. I really want to get Siege Galactic Man but others couldn't care less. This is no different... aside from the massive price. But as I said, the EB/Zing option gives you the choice to reserve the toy now and change your mind later. :)

The site is still only listing the US orders, which is a bit over 3000 now, but they did also announce separately on the weekend that they have received 1500 orders so far from overseas sources. So that brings the total to around 4.5k with a bit over a week to go to reach the 8000/

Orders for Unicron have just passed the 5000 mark. That includes 1500 from non-US customers.

Still need nearly a 1000 a day for the last remaining bit of time which seems a slim hope, but there is no denying that the amount of orders have shown a sharp increase over the last couple of days.

I'm watching it, it's starting to move quickly now at a pace of about 200-250/day.

Something to keep in mind regarding the numbers. The 1,500 or so that got added I think yesterday was from affiliated sellers (ie Takara Tomy Mall, Hasbro Asia and Zing/EB in Australia). At some point (the last day?) the non-affiliated channels (eg BBTS, Robot Kingdom, TFSource etc) will submit their total orders. The scuttlebutt from connected people on TFW is that one larger retailer has 1,200 already (most likely to be BBTS) and Robot Kingdom has 600.

So as of this moment if we take those posts at face value I reckon the non-affiliated retailers are already at 2,000+ orders, taking the real count to ~7,000 orders. Combined with the ramp up that will happen in the last few days I'd say it will easily get there. I estimated 11,000 here previously, we'll see if it gets that far.

Hmmm, that's interesting to note. I had assumed the orders from places like BBTS were being automatically funnelled along but I guess it makes sense they will put in total orders near the end.

Right now it's sitting at 5031 backers. At $574.99(US) a pop that equals $2,892,774.69(US), or in Aussie dollars $4,287,497.69, of preorders thus far. That's a fair chunk of change to return if it fails.

But then again, was it going to reach it's goal before the 2 month extension? No.

Did Zeta really make that much of an impact? Probably not, but if the numbers aren't there for Hasbro by October & they bin it, we've found our scapegoat.

Correct. Hasbro, Inc. have taken down some videos of Zeta's not-Unicron on YouTube and the images of it are gone from Zeta's Facebook and Weibo pages. There is also a screenshot of a chat with Zeta saying it has been "aborted." I don't doubt they'll be back, but you can disregard Zeta for the time being.

I had a look at their site. They have it listed as 'out of stock' and don't even have a price on it. Says they require the full amount by October 6th. I'm assuming that they just haven't finished putting all the details into the listing yet, rather than they are literaclly 'out of stock'.

And it's hit 7,000. We're in the endgame now.

Over 7500 now with a day and a half left so looking pretty good.

Looking forward to seeing this guy made, even if it takes over a year to get here, but it makes me wonder what Hasbro' s acceptable loss margin is. I'd hate to see it get to 7900 and have Hasbro pull the pin.

You don't have to fear that outcome because thankfully it's not happening. It should get to 8,000 plus even before the unaffiliated retailers like BBTS, Chosen Prime etc submit their orders. I can easily see it getting past 10,000 and might in fact hit my earlier guesstimate of 11,000 the way it's running currently. :)

It's a done deal. Nearly at 8200 orders currently.

11,000 may prove conservative the way it's running.

Naaah, it'll be way too obvious then, considering the flop it was with the original deadline. I'm going to say 8,700 +/-

wow the 8000 has been smashed. well done Haslab and every backer involved.

They've been updating with current foreign numbers, so final numbers from outside of America shouldn't be huge amount more.

An interesting figure on the Hasbro pulse home page has the funding for Unicron at 281%, which I assume is 281% of the required backers. That's around the 22000 mark. Looks like 11,000 was conservative!

People worked out there was a bug on the site. It should be half that amount, so roughly 140% or 11200 orders.

My 11,000 estimate was pretty close then!

Now that he’s a definite, I’ve started paying my pair off. I’d put a hundred bucks initial deposit on each and paid off another $50 each today. Figure if I do that every so often they should be paid off in plenty of time by whenever he appears in 2021

Does anyone know the height Unicrons planet mode will be when attached to the stand?

I know the diameter is meant to be about 85cm. Wondering how tall a shelf I would need to accomodate it

I have a minor issue. Unicron is not going to fit on the top shelf with my Titan Class figures. Honestly, I'm not even sure where Scorponok is going. Maybe I should figure out a way to suspend Unicron from the ceiling in planet mode and use him the menace all the other Transformers on the shelf.

I was thinking about this, There is obviously some sort of connection point for the stand when Unicron is on the stand. I wonder if the connection point is a locking connection, that is strong enough to support unicron if hanging from that point instead of sitting on it?

I'd be tempted to design a bracket to allow this, but my biggest fear would be that part of Unicron breaking away from the rest if it wasn't strong enough to support all that weight, quite a possibility. The only other way it might work is if there were some 'straps' attached to the bracket that wrapped around Unicron, spreading and sharing the weight load away from the joint, but then the straps would have to be a material that didn't damage the surface, or obscure it too much.

A unicron hanging from a suitably strong anchor point on the ceiling would look Awesome!

We are building the first set of shelving for my TF shed next month and I've had to change the design to accommodate Unicron. All other shelves in the shed will have 40cm clearance and the one for him and the other titans was going to be 80cm. Taking into account how high he will be in planet mode, I'm now having a shelf with a full metre clearance and 5 metres long. Reinforced steel too so it will easily accommodate the weight of two Unicrons and the rest of the titan-sized figures.

For myself I'd be constantly paranoid the anchors would break and he would fall to the concrete floor and smash

It would have to be proper, either a dynabolt into concrete/brick or decent couple screws into wood behind the ceiling. maybe a couple of those fancy butterfly anchor things if you were going to hang it off plasterboard alone.
