View Full Version : Super 7 licensed figurines

Super 7 in America are soon to be releasing the first set of their licensed Transformers figurines, which are about 10cm and have five points of articulation (they don't transform - think Actionmasters).

The first batch are Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Jazz, Megatron, Soundwave and Starscream, with more to come after that.
They are priced at about US$18 (about the price of a Deluxe figure at retail in America), which is a bit expensive for their size and simplicity.
Images of the first six can be seen here (https://news.tfw2005.com/2019/11/06/super-7-reaction-transformers-new-packaging-and-stock-images-400178), taken from a couple of online stores in America that already have them listed.

And it looks like the first limited edition redeco figurine might come out before the regular figures are released, with a purple Soundwave on exclusive backing card (https://news.tfw2005.com/2019/11/04/super7-defjam-x-transformers-soundwave-reaction-figure-available-on-ntwrk-11-6-400048)... I think it was released November 6th at a convention in America that I've never heard of before, so could be extremely limited, and very expensive in the hands of toy scalpers.

I've had these on order for several months, since they first appeared on BBTS. But they'd only shown grey prototypes, and the initial mock up for packaging wasn't real great. They have done a superb job with them now though, with beautiful animation artwork. Enough so I'm going to have to buy one to keep carded, one to open.

For those who don't know, these are issued under their ReAction line, which is minimally articulated (5POA) 3.75' figures homaging the old Kenner Star Wars line. $14-18 is their -normal- price for Reaction figures, so they're not putting a premium on it due to being Star Wars. They will be quite a bit bigger than Heroes of Cybertron size. They'd initially done them for licensed movie properties (eg. Gremlins), and just this month released a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Line. In the past they'd done Robotech (so you could get a Jetfire verotech).

If you want to see future releases, check out BigBadToystore as they have advance listings for figures to be released in Wave 2. I think I'll pass on the purple Soundwave, but they do sometimes release their convention exclusives on Super7's website as well if anyone -has- to get it.

Entertainment Earth have just listed pre-orders for wave 3, to be released in May.

Wave 2 (https://news.tfw2005.com/2019/09/28/super-7-reaction-transformers-new-characters-listings-397184) (March) - Devastator, Mirage, Alpha Trion, Shockwave, Shrapnel, Grimlock, Rumble, Skyfire.

Wave 3 (https://news.tfw2005.com/2019/11/09/super-7-reaction-transformers-new-characters-listings-for-may-2020-400409) (May) - Prowl, Blaster, Blitzwing, Perceptor, Dirge, Reflector.

The first wave have been found at US Retail now (https://news.tfw2005.com/2020/01/12/super-7-transformers-reaction-figures-and-super-cyborg-optimus-prime-found-at-us-retail-403497), so they might show up at online stores or ebay now, for those looking to get these.

It looks like there is also a 25cm (11 inch) Optimus Prime with removable chest piece.

An official image of four of the second wave have been shown off (https://news.tfw2005.com/2020/03/18/super-7-reaction-transformers-skyfire-rumble-sharpnel-grimlock-images-408302) - Skyfire, Rumble, Grimlock, Shrapnel.
Note that since these are based on their cartoon versions, Rumble is blue, coloured like his cartoon form with light blue and dark blue.

These are supposed to be released in America on March 27th... and if they appear here, it will be in import stores like the first wave (like Kings Comics and Minotaur).

Unfortunately, as nice as these look, they are VERY expensive for their size and for their limited articulation (even less than Actionmasters). These have retail prices in America of about US$15-20, which is what they pay for Deluxe sized Hasbro Transformers... something that is a lot bigger, more detailed, and actually converts (which is the main cost of R&D and production).

Entertainment Earth have also just listed an Astrotrain for May (https://www.entertainmentearth.com/product/transformers-astrotrain-3-34inch-reaction-figure/sup80679), which is the time of the 3rd wave, but wasn't listed with the 3rd wave back in November, so could be a late addition.
They also have listed some of the wave 3 figures for June and August (https://www.entertainmentearth.com/s/super7/c?query1=Super7&company=super7&theme=&producttype=&celebrity=&character=&landingpageid=5024&landingpageurl=&lppreviewid=0&podcast=0&salesid=0&promotionid=0&selectedfacets=__Theme=Transformers&itemsperpage=60&page=1&filter=All&sort=newly-added&productview=&advancedsearch=False&hideshop=True&alertid=), so the four figures shown off above for release at the end of March, might be the only 4 in wave two. The others previously listed for wave 2 (Mirage, Alpha Trion, Shockwave, Devastator) are now listed a lot later, so might be wave 4.

Meanwhile, the super sized Optimus Prime figure (https://www.entertainmentearth.com/product/transformers-super-shogun-optimus-prime-jumbo-action-figure/sup80985) (at 70cm it is the size of Generations Metroplex and Fort Max), is currently scheduled for December 2020, for a hefty US$350.
For those who don't recall, those Generations Titan toys of the same size, were just US$150-160 at retail... so this non-convertible plastic Optimus figure, which only has 3 moving parts (head and arms), costs over twice their price. (it does have an opening chest with Matrix though)

Super7 have revealed a special set (https://news.tfw2005.com/2020/11/27/super7-black-friday-2020-exclusive-transformers-reaction-figures-424925) of four (mostly) black redecos of previous figures, homaging Japanese characters and pre-Transformers toys.
Megatron and Perceptor redecos are based on their pre-Transformers toys, while Soundwave and Jazz redecos are based on Japanese characters (Soundblaster and Stepper).

They are available from their site for US$18 each (https://super7.com/collections/black-friday-2020), and I don't know if they ship out of America.

A redeco has been revealed (https://news.tfw2005.com/2021/03/19/super-7-super-cyborg-soundblaster-revealed-430198), which probably won't surprise anyone - Soundblaster (black deco)... but instead of having the Laserbeak (non-converting) cassette coloured gold to be Buzzsaw, Super 7 have taken the bizarre step of having it coloured purple, so that it is meant to be Ratbat, but has Laserbeak sculpting (wings, head, etc).

The regular release figures (https://news.tfw2005.com/2021/10/14/super-7-reaction-transformers-wave-5-first-look-442933) - Arcee, Reflector, Prowl, Grimlock (dino mode).

A special Christmas figure (https://news.tfw2005.com/2021/10/07/super-7-reaction-transformers-christmas-optimus-prime-442545) - Optimus Prime in green and red, with candy-cane rifle. (it doesn't say where it will be released, but says it will be out in November).

Super Cyborg figure (https://news.tfw2005.com/2021/10/15/super-7-transformers-super-cyborg-bumblebee-color-clear-version-new-stock-images-442979) - Bumblebee (both colour and clear - each with removable chest to show circuitry).

Wave 3 of their Ultimate size figures has four items (https://news.tfw2005.com/2021/12/01/super-7-transformers-ultimates-wave-3-revealed-445900) - 1986 Movie Wreckgar, IDW Tarn (with Nickel), Gen2 (green tank) Megatron, and 1980s cartoon Alligaticon (the alligator that the Constructicons made out of Optimus Prime's parts in the episode "City of Steel").
They will be us$55 each, due for release in late 2022 (almost a year away).

I really like the Alligaticon, and it comes with accessories from the cartoon episode as well - a Battle Taxi, the head of Optimus Prime, and his gun arm attached to the top of a building.

Same here. I'm amazed that we actually have an official(ly licensed) option of the Alligaticon and I'll gladly put my money down for that.
The inclusion of the arm is random but cool too. When I was a kid I would disconnect one of the arms from my Commemorative series Prime and attach it to his upright trailer (pretending it was a building) to replicate that scene from the City of Steel episode. :p

Why do they need such a long pre-order period? Are the retailers struggling to sell these now, or Super7 struggling to get retailers to risk signing up for more, and need to raise money months before they even begin spending any money on constructing the prototypes, let alone production. Ordinarily suppliers would be expecting to get paid by retailers close to release, after they have already spent money producing the items, but this is more like a kick-starter, giving Super7 at least 6 months to see how pre-orders go, and if it doesn't reach a minimum amount they can cancel the wave without spending a cent on pre-production (with minimal money only spent on Computer Generated images).

6th December 2021, 12:03 PM
All Super7 Ultimates figures are made to order, they basically only make as much as ordered and they aren't made for general retail. The long time between preorders and release is to let them schedule and arrange production of the required number of figures. This is not uncommon among collector lines, especially those that aren't made to be sold at K-Mart and the like. Here is another example of a company that does the same thing: https://www.goodsmile.info/en/products/announced/2021
GSC also takes preorders for products many months in advance to gauge the size of their production runs. Pulling up a specific example, this figure went up for preorder last month but won't be released until Jan 2023, assuming no possible delays: https://www.goodsmile.info/en/product/11997/Nendoroid+Jace+Beleren.html
Super7's preorder model is pretty normal and there is no need to get worked up about it.

Both have their flaws though, as Megatron doesn't have a grid pattern (it seems that we can't get any toys done right to match that scene in the movie), and Optimus doesn't have battle damage anywhere, even though the packaging remembers to include it).

For me, Super7 boxes and card designs are part of their appeal. Maybe display MISB without the outer sleeve cover. These Ultimates aren't very poseable anyway because the toy designers didn't want the lines of the joints to break the aesthetics of the figure. I can understand their motivation when i look at all the gaps in my SH Monsterarts figures.

Priced at us$55 each.

There are three figures for wave 4, and two of them look like they might just be redecos with new accessories.
Starscream (probably just a "colour" redeco of wave 1 Ghost Starscream)
Fallen Leader Optimus Prime (could be a minor remould and grey redeco of wave 1 Optimus to add in the battle damage - to go with their grey/dead Optimus figure that they already have in their smaller size class)
Soundwave - new, with a Laserbeak cassette. (the set reminds me of the Hasbro R.E.D. figure... which are about the same size, but about half the price)

It is interesting to see that 30 of the 33 figures on the back were all in the 1986 movie (at some point somewhere).

The Unicron is really a surprising thing to see.

Seeing that it's been resurrected in this form makes me wonder if there's a possibility Hasbro might consider a Fan-backed G1 Unicron toy? I think there could be enough G1 collectors out there that would back such a thing. (I'm thinking literally a G1 type toy like those third party scramble city Ice Age combiners)

There was an image going around a while back where someone had mocked up what that prototype toy might have looked like had it been released back in the 80s and I think there's appeal. (Was an April Fools joke see here: https://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/g1-unicron-box.1230037/ )

I almost expect Super 7 to reissue this ReAction Unicron as part of a retro-boxed a 2-pack (designed like the one in your link) together with a figure of him in planet mode.

griffin
12th September 2022, 12:13 AM
I would seriously consider buying 2-packs like that, for characters who can't realistically have a properly transforming toy without a lot of kibble, or one mode not looking like it should - eg Jhiaxus.

I also don't know why they don't look at doing various human characters from Transformers. After all, the Super7 figures are accepted as being non-converting licensed toys, so why not have characters who don't transform (human or non-human)... so that we have toy versions of the more popular characters (even those characters that Hasbro has done so far, but only given us tiny micro figures or non-articulated figures - eg the Witwicky's)
Hasbro could have done a whole range of Transformers Humans and Aliens from their extensive range of GIJoe moulds (like FunPub ended up doing), and yet, it's just a wasted opportunity.

Two more Ultimates (large size) have been revealed (https://news.tfw2005.com/2022/12/13/super-7-transformers-ultimates-wave-5-fallen-starscream-g1-reformatting-megatron-472254), but I think they are just simple redecos - grey/dead Starscream and purple/reformatting Megatron.
They are said to be out in late 2023, for us$55 each.

As much as I like that Starscream, Ultimates are a bit too pricy for repaints.
