Transformers TCG wave 5 for April 2020

A first announcement on twitter and instagram (https://news.tfw2005.com/2019/12/19/transformers-trading-card-game-wave-5-announced-for-april-2020-402640), with no other details, has the fifth series of the Trading Card Game coming out in April next year.
(the image of Titans Return Megatron is probably nothing to do with the theme or content of the next series, as a claim was made about series 5 being IDW themed)

Looks like the 5th series will be about Titans Return after all (https://news.tfw2005.com/2020/01/30/transformers-trading-card-game-titan-masters-attack-set-pre-order-available-on-amazon-404362), as a pre-order listing has been found on Amazon, before an official announcement by WOTC.
The description appears to have a similar concept to the previous series, with a box of card-packs to include a Titan card (this time it will be Fortress Maximus).

Some more series 5 battle cards have been revealed, with some having new action icons, being a blend of colour and alt-mode type (which means it only works on that type of alt-mode)...

It looks like WOTC are heavily promoting the 5th series this week, leading up to NY Toyfair, as several different sites have each revealed a card (similar to how they promoted the 3rd series)... so expect more reveals of cards from random websites (including some Australian sites again).

Two more significant reveals today...

Fortress Maximus, Cerebros and Emissary (https://news.tfw2005.com/2020/02/20/transformers-trading-card-game-introduces-titan-masters-attack-fortress-maximus-405518) - three cards that are included as a bonus pack with each box of blind packs (like with series 4 having a Trypticon pack).
Unfortunately with the official rules limiting you to having only 25 stars, if you want to play a complete Fortress Maximus, you can't play any other characters because it comes to 25 stars (and it also means you can't have any special battle cards that have a star value to them either).

Sky Shadow and Ominus (https://news.tfw2005.com/2020/02/20/transformers-trading-card-game-introduces-titan-masters-attack-sky-shadow-405567) - Also a 3 card character, as Sky Shadow (like the toy) has two vehicle modes (cards) and a Titan Master card.

Series 5 is released April 17th.

Wizards of the Coast (the creators of the Transformers Trading Card Game) have been really generous and sent us a couple of the new Series 5 cards, to help reveal them to to the fans.

We have a Character Card "Brawn" and his Stratagem Card "Resilience".

More reveals from an assorted number of various sites, including someone who snapped the cards that Hasbro had on display at NY Toyfair (https://news.tfw2005.com/2020/02/25/transformers-trading-card-game-introduces-9-new-titan-masters-attack-cards-2-406938), which could mean some fansites who were given card scans to reveal, are going to reveal cards that were already revealed.

And with the reveal of Windsweeper (https://news.tfw2005.com/2020/02/25/transformers-trading-card-game-introduces-3-more-titan-masters-attack-cards-406956), apparently there are 6 Super Rare character cards in series 5, which are 1 per 30 packs. Now keep in mind, you get 24 packs per master box and end up with almost all of the non-rare cards, so imagine how many boxes you'd have to buy to get the entire series 5 cards... or how much you'd have to pay to buy them off the rare few people who ended up with one that for some reason didn't want to keep it.

Nightracer is the character created for BotCon 95 by fan Raksha (https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Nightracer), and has only seen two toys in the last 25 years, with the 1995 toy later retconned into being a "Gen2" clone of the "original" that had a more accurate toy released in 2015, produced some 20 years AFTER the clone (https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Nightracer_(G1)). For some odd reason, the TCG people have revealed 18 battle cards (https://news.tfw2005.com/2020/04/06/transformers-trading-card-game-titan-masters-attack-mega-reveal-409485)... maybe as a final big reveal just before the release date. Well... the original release date before it was pushed back a few weeks, so I don't know why they didn't drag out the reveals a bit more.

Sad news for anyone here who was a keen collector of the Transformers Trading Card Game from WOTC... the fifth series that came out May 29th (Titan Masters Attack) was the last series (https://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/titans-return-is-the-final-release-for-the-tcg.1197170/), as they feel that it didn't manage to draw in enough regular collectors & players (who buy the booster packs), and the final nail was the Covid recession.

I wonder if it had lasted another two series (until next year) to introduce Beasts, that it could have drawn in more people, as the first five series were pretty much Gen1 over and over again (in their different recent toy versions).

I think if they had spaced out their series more (1 per year, to give people enough time to afford to buy enough booster packs to collect all or most of the set, in addition to their usual toy collecting), and had a way of buying a complete set as a one-off purchase (at a higher price that reflects the value of the super rare cards).
I also think that the ridiculously low official star count of 25 limited the ability to have an interesting battle, as quite a few characters (the good ones) would have 12-15 stars, which often leaves you playing with just one major character card. They should have instead had something like a 100 star limit, or players could agree to a lower limit if they wanted to have a quicker game. (they could also have done a better job making the game easier to understand with better instructions and example videos)

I'll still try to collect some cards of the last two series, as the prices are likely to come down from retailers offloading their stock.

^I'm happy they made an attempt at it. Distribution kind of sucked here in Australia. I saw good enough numbers of Wave 1 and 2 when they were released but only one instance of Wave 3 after maybe a year afterwards and then nothing since.

It's incredibly difficult for a new TCG to last long even for a big popular brand so it's unfortunate but not surprised that the Transformers one is ending. Digimon, even at the height of it's popularity, was unable to compete with the big 3 of MTG, Pokemon and YuGiOh. Dragon Ball tcg seems to be fairly popular now but it's on its 3rd try already.
