Some of you will have heard that my trusty (well, roadworthy) old Camira got written off recently. No, I wasn't hurt - a dude fell asleep at the wheel driving through my street and took out three parked cars. I wasn't home at the time, I got home to find my car banged up and undrivable. The driver wasn't hurt, apparently, although felt pretty guilty wiping out three cars.

We went car shopping on the weekend, and thanks to the expert haggling skills of my mum & girlfriend (and the generosity of extended family), I'm now the proud owner of this:

Good solid cars the Jazz, and nice to see a medium sized car that isn't a Corolla!

It's actually a subcompact... albeit about as big as you're gunna get in that class. It's meant to compete with Toyota's Yaris (the other model I looked at), rather than the Corolla.

You're right, Corollas are everywhere. Like Jumpstarters.

A bunch of cuddly Mr Men and Little Miss plushies, A big Boa Plushie, Yoshi Plushie from the Sydney Easter Showground. Me first time to go heheheh. Also bought a colorful beaniescarf. Got my layby sneakers as well, and not pictured as they're not yet delivered are some furnitures - coffee table and hall table from Vast furniture. Also got a new steam mop from the easter showground in the Lifestyles section.

Oh almost forgot the jams and preserves as well as some sauces I bought from the Easter showground - from the food and health section.

Really enjoyed the Easter Show as its my first time, might plan to do so again next year just or mebbe every other year just for R & R. :D

Yoshi Plushie from the Sydney Easter Showground.

Watch out Neil, that's how it starts... soon you will have an entire Yoshi army!
(glad to know I can further my small Yoshi force when i go to the show later this week).

Picked up an interactive Wall-e from big W, he isn't really all that interactive, just makes alot of stupidly loud crashing noises. Damn cute though.

Also nabbed Singstar Queen, and some PS2 microphones for the missus, first singstar game we have bought. Insanely difficult on the hard setting, but alot of fun, even for someone as tone deaf as me!

Picked up a couple of things cheaps from JB
GTA III, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories and Bully all for PS2.
Had a burnt copy of GTA3 but my current PS2 isn't chipped so I figured I'd get the game while it was dirt cheap.

Also grabbed Lupe Fiasco's album, The Cool, and the Ting Tings album We Started Nothing. Again both pretty cheap.

Annndd a new pair of headphones. The ones for my phone broke. Luckily it was just the part for the headphone jack that did it and I could get any old pair of headphones

Batgirl Year One trade. I'm a Marvel fellow but this is one of my favourite DC comics. I've been meaning to get the trade for a very long time. Finally got around to it.

Also Wolverine Origins Deadpool figurine. Picked him up just for the heck of it. Got the usual gripes, loose awkward hands that don't quite hold everything and mediocre paint apps. Also the scabbard backpack for his katana is just bulky and awkward. Can't remove it unless you cut them off which I might do.

Decided to head out to TRU yesterday and see if the new DBZ toys that were first seen at the Aus Toyfair had been released...

They have.

Picoolo, SSJ Goku, SSJ Vegeta, Perfect Cell and 100% Frieza are all out, with a build-a-figure Shenron pieces (also need the GT Goku and Bebi figures, which were not out). Picked up all but Frieza, got to keep an eye out, teh paint apps are dodgy. They'll set you back $15 a pop, and have very articualted legs, with only shoulder articulation.

And beside them for $18 are the DB evolution movie figures. They are laughable, get the two Piccolo's and hold them side by side. Hilarity will ensue.

Actually, it helped me just a short while ago tonight to upgrade the bios on the board to the latest version so that my new cpu was fully supported. Before it was just running at 1.6ghz, now it's at full speed @ 3.2ghz and the power saving stuff is fully working now too. :)

Plus it was just still in the case, I just leave it. And I'm an old school guy with a mountain of stuff still on floppy disk.

And that's one thing I love about this board, it has the option in the bios for all floppy types, other boards typically just have the 3.5" 1.44mb option, this one has both 3.5 and 5.25" drive options with both high and low densities. :)

Well I got my Rudd money last Wednesday, and with some extra savings I went along and picked up all this:

http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x24/borgeman/SNC00041.jpg

Core 2 Duo E8500 (3.16GHz)
Asus P5Q3 mobo
WD 1TB HDD
Kingston 6GB RAM
Gigabyte NVidia GTX260 core 216 Graphics card (yum - came with Farcry 2 for free :))
Antec Nine Hundred Two Case
Antec Earthwatts 750W PSU
2 SONY DVD drives
Sony internal card reader
Logitech MX550 Revolution Keyboard/Mouse Combo(Sitting above the antec box, but cut out of pic)

Other
Sanyo 32" LCDTV for my monitor (got it in March)
Logitech X530 5.1 Speakers (from ages ago)

So i built it myself - pretty happy with my work, my cable management was quite neat etc. had problems with it as the pc would randomly freeze or reboot with more than one stick of ram plugged in - turns out the motherboard wasnt delivering anough voltage to the ram, so i manually set the voltage in the BIOS and voila, all good

So this a pic of my setup:

its invisible :D

but yeah, id prefer a card reader over a floppy drive, and only the top three drive bays were 100% free - the bottom six bays (yeah this case has 9 drive bays ;)) are covered by intake cooling fans, and id rather keep them in

i have the floppy drive from my old pc, so if i REALLY need to (or my card reader dies) i can plug it in

Thank you. It depends on the Kanji. When written as 雪 then "yuki" does indeed mean 'snow.' But the one for my daughter's name is 愉希 - "yu" means 'joy' and "ki" means 'rare' so I guess it could be translated as "rare joy." This "ki" is also used in the word "kibou (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_Experiment_Module)" (希望) which means "hope," so I like to translate the name as "joyful hope." :)

But "rare joy" might be a more accurate translation, as she just totally randomly cries and stops for no apparent reason, so moments of quiet tranquility are quickly becoming a rarity!! She's only a day old and she's already mastered the art of emotional blackmail - wailing relentlessly until she gets a cuddle! Our Kung Fu is weak! :p (not hard when I'll take any excuse to hug her lots) :D

Its probably the least fiddly/sturdiest valkyrie that Yamato has come up with thus far. Atleast compared to the Macross Zero valks. Its a bit short though compared to the same-scale YF-19. I still think the YF-19 is a better looking valk but as a toy, the VF-11B probably pips it by a hair.

Today was a grand day

As we sat at a table i spied lots of yummy stuff on the other peoples table. I told my class mates jokingly that i would get a slice of cake.

so i strolled over and said "Wow! that cheesecake looks delicious!!! May i have a slice? "

they said no and that it was a present for their class, it must have been there last day

So i once again congratulated them on having a scrumptious looking Cheesecake

as i turned to walk of 1 of them offered me 2 blueberry cupcakes, i love blueberry cupcakes!!!!

I gave 1 to the other people at my table.

then a few minutes later, another gal came over and gave me a slice of cheesecake. I was so amazed at my newfound powers of persuation

(oi i just found out that there is no such word as persusal and i cant spell persuation)

THEN

later that/this day

i finally worked up the courage to ask the 'Elf womans' name. a nickname i gave her cause of her ears. Hers names Adriannnnnnne and shes from Austria-Hungry

Now i shall use my newfound powers of persuasal for my own gain!!!!

Give me your Fort Maxs and Windmills!!! :D:D:D

The morbid bastard in me has a fascination with the Cold War period, especially when it comes to the USA and USSR's nuclear arsenals, and subsequently the doctrine of deterrence and mutually-assured destruction. Not really sure exactly what Kuji Club is, I believe it's some sort of Japanese prize raffle lucky draw thing. There's a few other Kuji Club Gurren Lagann items that you can get. I passed up on the set of four super deformed characters and I'm not a statue collector.

I've got one Gurren Lagann Revoltech of Gurren Lagann itself. Sadly though it's plagued with a loose leg peg and I broke the glasses on the chest when I tried to pry it off. It's the last Revoltech I've bought and will probably be the last I'll ever buy. I'm disappointed with the quality control, all my Revoltech's (four) have at least one loose joint each.

My collection consists of US rods and muscle cars and Jap cars with about 70 of them in 1:24 scale and a dozen or so in 1:18 scale, although I do have a HK GTS, XYGTHO and a Charger in 1:43 scale.
One of my old man's mates has the most amazing collection and set-up I've ever seen in my life. A large high roofed garage fitted out like a 50's diner with I reckon about 200 Aussie cars in the 1:18 scale going to the roof in glass casing. It blew my mind when I first saw it. He also has a few 1:1 scale real rods. I'll get my dad to take me around there again and take some photos. It has to be seen to be believed.

Picked up the PC copy of Street Fighter 4 today at JB Hi Fi for $69AUD.

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/701/15156451.jpg

As always keyboards aren't great for fighting games.

I've got a PC wireless 360 controller and a cheap Logitech Precision controller to use so that's sort of okay. D-pads on 360 controllers are terrible as we all know. The Logitech d-pad is much better but tapping left trigger and shoulder feels awkward. But still better then a keyboard.

I'm thinking of picking up a PS3 or 360 Hori arcade stick. I hear they plug in and work fine on computers.

Got my Hori Fighting Stick 3 yesterday.

I'm happy with it, it does its job. Not quite there compared to actual arcade cabinet sticks and buttons, but it seems most people buy parts and mod these sticks to get real arcade quality. Plugs in wonderfully and was instantly recognised by the computer. With the help of Joy2Key I'm having a blast playing some arcade classics.

Initially I would have liked to have bought a Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 but I couldn't really justify dropping that sort of money. I'm no competitive player and this is my first stick. However I might upgrade in the future.

looks interesting Kyle, in a nutshell What's it about?

It is done by Gainax, the same studio which made Neon Genesis Evangelion. It is a lot more upbeat and fun with ridiculously over the top giant robot fighting. The series' main robot was originally two separate robots with the smaller robot forcibly smashed into the bigger one and became its head. (Headmaster! :p) Later on they'd combine with a bigger craft, spaceship and even moons and planets to become bigger and bigger robots. Highly recommended. :D

Well the layout of the art book goes like this:

The Covers
The cover art is separated into chapters based on what Marvel titles they are from. Each chapter begins with a double page, on the right is a full page print whilst on the left page has thumbnails of the covers which will be covered. See the Thor snaps I took in my initial post for an example.

As you can see from the layout of the covers in a few of my snaps, they will generally have a paragraph of text from Marko on the cover which gives you a bit of insight on what he was thinking, where he's trying to portray, etc. and a rough early sketch design.

The covers make up the good majority of the art book.

Character Concepts
A pages few sketches, designs and what not. Fairly general stuff. Sample picture I've included is his Star-Lord page because I know you're a fan of the space titles.

And the book finally closes with a few interviews.

You shouldn't be worried about too much text. The art is definitely the focus of the art book. As mentioned there's a few interviews at the end and small paragraphs of text on each page to accompany the art but I quite like that. It's nice to get some more insight on the creative process.

The RRP according to the back of the dust jacket is $49.99USD. I got mine for $60AUD at Classic Comics, no copies left sorry. I know Minotaur have one or two more copies left at I think about $65AUD. Didn't check Comics R Us, so not sure if they have any copies.

Of course you can get it online. I just checked Amazon then and they have it for $31.49USD (http://www.amazon.com/Marvel-Art-Marko-Djurdjevic-HC/dp/0785139621), haven't factored in the shipping price though.

I love Bachalo too, although the quality of his work dipped steeply just after Mark Buckingham stopped inking him - he started drawing people with unproportionally large heads and seemed to lose some of his visual storytelling skills. He's great again now though: are you reading Sinister Spider-Man? It's my favourite current Marvel comic for both the Bachalo art and the twisted storyline.
