Yes, do you guys have many experiences with this?

Cause I was having a shower before, thinking "hmm, when I think about it really, I don't have anything really against Hasbro because looking at it understanding that they have to minimise cost and the sacrifices that have to be made and understanding as well that it is a kids toy - the transformers line is really, pretty good - except that the price here is so much higher than the states...

THEN, I get out of the shower after cleaning up and I discover my silverstreak has broken <_< where? The connector that connects(yup) the roof piece and the spine (the kind of L shaped piece).

HOW!?!?! I don't know :\ it's not like I was giving it an alcho bath or anything either - I didn't even paint that area. >_>

SO, what's happening now is it's slowly supergluing itself back(hopefully) together. Add this on top of an earlier accident I had with the toy while trying to silver-ise his spoiler using the metalising lacquer I'd used for Ironhide's gun (caused one side of his silver of the rear part of the vehicle to be stuffed up and hence requiring a repaint) (which is still in progress).

THEN I discover in between all of this some of the BLACK PAINT has rubbed off his ROOF!

D'oh!
So rant rant rant, but I'm most shattered about how that piece of plastic just... broke! >_>

Any experiences yourselves?
:) Thanks

I've never had a new figure break but I've repaired a couple of G1's over time & I've discovered that the Loctite Activator & SuperGlue 2-pack is just-about perfect :)

http://risdpedia.net/images/thumb/0/00/Loctite_Super_Glue.jpg/150px-Loctite_Super_Glue.jpg approx. $10 from Bunnings & well worth it ;)

Wait.

You were having a shower with your toys and you don't know how it broke, now the toy is supergluing itself back together?

Within the first minute of opening TFA Lockdown I snapped one of his hands off.

Problem is TF's are now so popular they have to make so many so QC suffers. What we as adult collectors need to be doing is discouraging all children from liking and collecting TF's so that QC goes up and when we finally pass away from old age and incontinence the brand dies with us.

First off I mis read the topic's title and thought it said "Transformers Breadaking" I had these visions of a Tip Top Combiner, his nemesis could be Airazor.

Anyhow I have had many problems with TF's breaking, as im sure anyone that owns G1 figures has been through. I swear it seems like some of them break just by looking at them, although nearly every figure of mine that is broken has all been because a non TF fan attempted to transform them. As you may have guessed I dont like people touching them anymore :) Most of my valuable stuff I keep packed away nowdays.

I really like the Classics/Universe/Henkei figures because they capture the G1 look(most of the time) and I dont have to be so careful when having a transform of the toy, it also gives my friends something to play with instead of having the stress of watching them handling my G1 figures.

I know what you mean Omega... as a kid I had many Transformers broken by other kids. I very seldomly broke my own Transformers. :/ As a result I hated sharing my TFs with other kids, but of course my mum would make me share and as a result, many TFs got broken. I would always demand the kid who broke my toy buy me a new one, but my mum would overrule me and it never happened. *sigh* So of course, other kids soon discovered that there was never any consequences for breaking my Transformers. (-_-)

I fear breakage at all times. That's why I use the instructions whenever I get a new design. I used to think: "wow, these are tough enough for kids to really handle roughly" but then realised that really only applies to the Cybertron trilogy toys. G1 - antiques: I still remember when a friend broke my Optimus Prime's stacks ("It just broke" he said!).

Movie line, Animated, Classics, SWTF - not kid friendly in my opinion.

I think they are seen by manufacturers as just toys and therefore disposable. Shame. I doubt today's figures will be held with the same reverence 25 years from now.

I broke many of my TFs as a kid :o. Never quite learnt what excessive force was. Primus bless the designer that introduced ball joints & reattachable parts to TFs in the early 90s. :)

Same :)

This is one of the reasons I like to buy at retail. If it breaks, I take it back.

From consumer.gov.au

When am I entitled to a refund?

Under the law, you are entitled to a refund, exchange or repair if something you bought:

is faulty or defective and you were not aware of it

does not do the job you were led to believe it would do

Emphasis mine.

At a friends (Griffo we called him) 11th birthday party back in 1985 he got a brand new Powerglide from someone (Matt) else.
Now I was the big TF fan so I was playing with it while everyone else was doing their socialising and party things. Somehow...I have no idea how....the pin holding the wing came out. I panicked. I looked for it everywhere. Impossible to find I panicked more. This was turning into a bad, bad situation very quickly.
I then came up with an ingenious plan. I left it on the ground with it's disconnected wing and went to 'mingle'.
We all came across that poor, maligned Powerglide as a group and everbody's like, "Ohh who did that?", "How did that happen?" "That's terrible!"
I'm sure my blushing like a beetroot and the word 'GUILTY' tattooed on my forehead gave me away but nobody directly accused me. (I count that as a win)
Eventually Powerglide was nominally fixed with a piece of wire to replace the pin and my friend eventually gave him to me anyway....along with the rest of his TF's and his Lego. Then years later as teenagers I beat him up a couple of times and stole (borrowed without asking) his gf on more than one occasion.

And if you're wondering....Yes....I am going to burn in Hell.:o

Not much in the breaking TFs but there is one in particular which really made me :eek:. That is G1Onslaught. This was still back in Philippines. I bought it second hand from one of the oodles of hobby and collectibles shop there and when I got home I was trying to combine him with the rest of the combaticons when i snapped off his left lower leg when I was putting it into position, the plastic just crumpled into pieces ( prolly due to age). I was so dissapointed coz even with superglue it just wouldnt get repaired. The plastic has this smooth finish that resists from it gluing back "as if new" so for the longest time I had my combaticons just as individual figures. When I migrated my toys here I left that particular onslaught back as I have already acquired 2 here one G1 and a G2 version. Perhaps I left it out of a subconscious way of blocking out a bad memory as well as I really was so keen that day to combine them only to have my eagerness squashed like a bug with his crumbling plastic leg.

Oh and digger, yes you are indeed going south :D:D shall i set up a meeting for you to sign on the dotted lines?... the boss will be so pleased of another acquisition to post in the infernal threads:p

Never really had Transformers as a kid, so never broke them.

Instead I break them now. The last one was Alt Wheeljack, where-upon I used too much force on his arm and snapped it. Thankfully it is fixed and seems to be holding up well (if only I could figure out the transformation correctly...)

All of my Turbomasters were in excellent condition when I gave them to cousins, who proceeded to break all of them in one way or another. Bar Rotorstorm, they have been replaced (some multiple times) over the years.

BW Torca broke thanks to his plastic syndrome, picked him up and he just fell apart, haven't had the heart to get another one.

Ditto. :/ My BW TM Megatron broke too thanks to his plastic syndrome - I replaced it with a Japanese Metals Megatron.

Oof. Looks like someone ain't been properly checking back :b Thanks for the replies guys!

Might I add that I'm referring to my universe Silverstreak!
SO! I'm currently in the process of redoing the black paint on this sucker! The working week has restarted, so less time to custom on my hands. That said, last week I did great progress with ice's and tdd's stuff.

I have yet to test the joint after super-gluing, but I'm still annoyed at how it broke just like that. >_>

And...what's this Plastic Syndrome you guys are referring to?
