Transformers items on page 16 of Toy sale catalogue. (https://www.bigw.com.au/bigw-catalogues#view=catalogue2&saleId=33335)

WFC & Studio Series LEADER - $49 (save $39 - normally $88)

Bumblebee Movie Energon Ignitors Nitro - $15 (new price)

http://www.toycollectors.com.au/news/2020/053004.jpg

NOTES -
Skylynx is noted as a BigW exclusive, which is true for about 3 months, when it is allowed to be sold by other retailers. (Kmart & Target are not getting it)
The examples of the Leader & Voyager toys in the catalogue may not be the new items or waves in the stores for the sale... we will have to wait until stock arrives at stores.
Leader class is not a regular size at BigW, so when their Toy Sale stock sells out, they might not get more in.
The Nitro toys also look to be a one-off shipment, so should stay at $15 until they sell out.
Both Leader & Voyager are shown with examples of Studio Series and Generations WFC toys, so the sale price should apply to both series.
Scorponok was not scheduled for this sale, but should show up at BigW (and some other retailers) around September/October.

Thanks for the tipoff KP...

Now to save up for Skylynx, and hope they have something new in the Leader and Voyager sizes.

(I had a look through the entire 112 pages of the catalogue, and I couldn't find a single Transformers licensed item in there.)

Also... something else I have been told from a reliable source - Skylynx is already in the BigW system to be sent to stores from June 4th. If they are on schedule, or even a week or two after that, the stores might put them out for people to buy them, at the full price... but if we are the first in the world to see them in stores, I imagine that there would be people happy to pay its regular price to be one of the first to own it, or to scalp it to foreigners. So hopefully, the stores don't get them until closer to the sale date, or hold them in the back until the sale starts.

I thought about scalpers but i dissmissed it as covid 19 pandemic might have a affect on delivery times (post delays or none at all ) or extra increase prices fo delivery as they would have to choose dhl like service.

Definitely going in for Sky Lynx and (at that price) ER Prime. I'm hoping the SS leaders include Shockwave by the time the sale hits. I'm also interested in the Lego Hidden Side Mystery Castle, it looks like it'd be fun for my daughter and I.

The big w's around my area (Perth South) never have stock around sale time. I assume the staff put them aside for friends (the shelves do have things that no-one wants like cyberverse and one step changers though).

My experience is the stock usually goes out as soon as it hits the store, it's not held back for the sale, so people have generally bought them by the time the sale starts.

I'll be checking Big Ws local to me pretty much daily from the next few days.

So will you actually be able to CHOOSE which leader/voyager you want if you buy online or will it be more nonsense "Randomly selected" garbage that Aussie retailers do online?

Randomly selected. That's how their website works.

nalops

Unfortunately it's randomly selected. Don't know of any brick and mortar store whose online store lets you pick what you want apart from Mr Toys.

popculturepooka
1st June 2020, 10:13 AM
Another reasons why these big name department stores are failing to compete with international web retailers and failing in general.
Absolutely bizarre policy. Imagine buying fashion items or books online and being told you will get a random colour, style or title from that price point?

Jellico
1st June 2020, 10:18 AM
You can choose with things like Lego. They are obviously uniquely coded.

I am not sure what Mr Toys does to allow it. Possibly it makes an extra effort because it is a specialty store. The Lego example makes me wonder if it could be fixed at the Hasbro end.

Because they bother to uniquely catalog into their system. Which isn't hard, just a little extra effort that will work wonders for customer satisfaction.

If I only get Sky Lynx online thats good enough, I dont know whether I will bother in store but hopefully its not wave 1 if I do (although I might buy a few more Starscreams depending what else I spend my money on)
Its also interesting that they use new figures for Studio Series in the catalogue, but I remember last year they showed The Black Series Archive Wave 2 and I wasnt so much happy to get Anakin on sale as to see Anakin was getting stocked at all
I went in store and they were plentiful of the wave 1 that must have been hanging around a year before the sale and Boba Fett aside can still be found now. Still dont have Anakin.

Yes Robina Big W (qld) had them yesterday, stacks of them. I?d only gone and bought me Earthrise leader Astrotrain the week before for $90, lol.

Unfortunately it?s only Wave 1 stock (Voyager, Leader, Deluxe) at this point.

It may not be a miscalculation. If you can sell it at the higher price point, you have greater profit.
What was a mistake was the limited allocation of stock, as they greatly underestimated demand.
For those patient to wait, it will be available from other retailers in September.

Not Big W, but Myer clearly learnt that lesson. After February's run on Earthrise Primes they have stocked up to a crazy level. And it looks like Big W was watching and did so too. More Astrotrains.

In Townsville the Willows store has all their Generations and studio series stuff out (except Sky Lynx, who has arrived, just out the back). There's only a couple of Voyager Starscreams, but other than that everything seems to be pretty plentiful (or was when I left work yesterday).

No leaders of either at my local, already have optimus: and hunted down a takara headmasters astrotrain not long ago so $49 for astrotrain would be about the only way I'd get one.

If you check out acquisitions in the facebook groups lots of people have chosen not to wait for the sale. Even Griffin has purchased one. I guess it just comes down to how much you want a thing, waiting for the sale does risk stock running out, but you save enough to nearly afford another deluxe as well.

Slightly off topic. I understand Sky Lynx is currently a Big W exclusive for the toy sale and will be available September 2020. However, I didn't see any stock of Commander class Jetfire at retailers such Kmart, Myer or Target after its release last year (or even this year). Will Commander class Sky Lynx be available from these general merchandise retailers after the September 2020 general release?

griffin
15th June 2020, 12:01 PM
Target was the only physical retailer that wanted Jetfire, and it was sold through Amazon Australia as well.
Kmart and Target didn't want Skylynx. Other toy sources should get it in.

Does online purchasing for this sale tomorrow allow you to then click and collect that day, so that you are basically buying in-store, but just jumping the queue by two days?
I guess if shipping is cheaper than $30, you are still getting Skylynx for less than full price... especially if you don't have a BigW near you.

I wonder if that's their shipment delays, or their supplier's shipment delays. Or if it is just a generic message that they put on products that are already running out before the sale starts.
I would imagine that they had all of their stock already, as they were shipping them out to stores weeks ago. They probably just didn't order much (or reduced their order) because of the current economic climate. And they have 100 pages of toys to sell at the same time, so everything was probably reduced months ago when they could see how much of a downturn there was going to be for the rest of the year. To the product buyers, Skylynx was just another Transformers toy, and that brand hasn't been too hot since the last movie 18 months ago.

I looked at the other 'hot ticket' items that may have been similar (especially Lego, after their shipping/hacking woes recently) and couldn't find any other examples.

Going to be mighty pissed if I can't order it after they've advertised it and blocked it from sale for the past few weeks.

(copied from our facebook page)

Tomorrow at a minute past midnight, begins the online portion of the BigW toy sale, which allows people to buy the sale items through the website for two days before the discounts are activated in-store.
That should mean, that while stocks last, you should be able to buy items to have shipped to you, or to pick up in-store (if still available at that store).
Otherwise, Thursday 18th will be the day you can go into a store and see what they have left, and purchase items in person... which will be necessary for items that are part of an assortment (as online purchases of those items will only give you a random selection in that assortment).

A reminder of the Transformers items that are part of this sale...
GENERATIONS Skylynx - $119
GENERATIONS Leader class - $49
GENERATIONS Voyager class - $35
STUDIO SERIES Leader class - $49
STUDIO SERIES Voyager class - $35 (not noted in sale catalogue, but is pictured)

Sightings so far have revealed that BigW stores are only getting the first wave of Earthrise toys for the sale (Optimus, Astrotrain, Grapple, Starscream), and only the 2nd wave of Studio Series Leaders (TF3 Megatron & Jetfire), as well as the 8th wave of Studio Series Voyagers (TF1 Megatron & Mixmaster).

http://www.toycollectors.com.au/news/2020/061503.jpg

Based on past BigW sales, it is unlikely that they will restock with newer waves before the end of the sale... and the larger size classes are often not restocked at all once a store sells out.
While you are there though, take advantage of them having the latest two waves of Studio Series Deluxe toys as well (at full price).

Sky Lynx - can't add to cart. "Due to unforeseen shipment delays, this product may not be available for our launch on 16 June (online) and 18 June (in store)."

All the others on sale (Generations Leaders and Voyagers, Studio Series Leaders and Voyagers) can still be added to cart.

That's quite a shame they had insufficient stock for the online launch. I think the goal of online shopping in advance was to avoid the retail hustle, but that's going to be the only way to get him. I know a lot of people will be disappointed, but he will be available more widely come September.

I'm so glad I bought mine at full retail though, rather than taking the risk for day of. They may well have more stock they're holding back for Thursday too.

Would have loved the option, but a bit difficult when Big W have never found a reason to open a store in North Tas - despite the population of Tas being fairly evenly split north/south and Hobart having 3 stores...

It's so disappointing to hear all of this, and I feel bad about hyping up the toy sale all this time, considering no one seemed to have been able to get Skylynx, and were forced to wait on the website for ages just to find out that it was not available.

And how can we be sure that there will be more stock coming. Could all of them have been bought up already, or is the website not recognising what is still sitting out the back of the stores, because they aren't to be sold in the stores yet.

I wouldn't feel bad, hyping up a toy sale and then not really carrying the stock to back it up is a classic Big W move by now. Though I guess the online order nonfulfilment is somewhat novel this year.

I got on to the site pretty early and the option to add it to the cart was greyed out. I think what they may have done is have warehouse stock that was used exclusively for the online orders and then store stock. Almost like a wall is between the two stocks and never the twain shall meet.
There was a post about lost deliveries so maybe that was the warehouse and some store stock and because it never arrived it was never available. It would be good to ask Hasbro about there side of things.

It's on Big W, their ticket system was totally screwed up until about 4 AM. Even if it's the fault of Hasbro or their distribution network for them not having Sky Lynx stock.

Can you guilt trip Hasbro Aus in to giving some insight in to what went wrong and weather they are expecting online stock?

I've spoken with Hasbro Australia and they have asked BigW about the issue with Skylynx...

Of the 1500 units BigW have for the sale, only 90 units were made available for the early online launch of the sale yesterday. Stores that didn't put out their stock before the sale should have it out tomorrow for people to buy.

It's possible that clink-and -collect is available then as well but check first.

Ok I ended up being able to secure Mixmaster from Menai at least. On the first try they only checked the stock for Earthrise, not Studio Series. I called again and gave them the correct article numbers from the website listing.

Here's the trick with Click and Collect to make sure you get the variant you want. Once Menai told me they had a Mixmaster they said to put in a click and collect order and then call the same person an hour later to make sure I get the Mixmaster allocated to my order. I'll then pick it up on Saturday.

(copied from our facebook page with some extra info)

After hearing a LOT of stories yesterday about a very frustrating time by many collectors, spending hours on the BIG W website trying to purchase a Skylynx toy, just to end up being unable to buy one. Since the BigW site and stores were giving mixed messages about stock being delayed or that they didn't yet receive all of the Skylynx toys, many people were now thinking that all of the Skylynx toys were now sold out, or currently not in their area, and wouldn't even bother checking the stores when the sale starts there tomorrow (Thursday).

Thanks to the wonderful people at Hasbro Australia, we have some information behind this whole online toy sale mess, to help improve your chances of getting one at this time.

-

BigW in Australia were one of the first retailers IN THE WORLD to get advance stock of Skylynx, before it was to be released globally around September (the people at Hasbro Australia made that possible).

BigW purchased 1500 units of Skylynx for this June toy sale, which is said to be enough for each store to have at least 5 units.

BigW has a separate warehouse for the online store, and ONLY 90 units (Skylynx toys) were sent to that warehouse to cover the early online toy sale that started yesterday. The remaining 94% of the Skylynx toys were at stores that the online system couldn't access... at least, not yet.

Unfortunately, the BIgW site, didn't let people know on the product page, that the bulk of the stock would be kept separate from the online sale, for in-store purchasing only.

(this might change from tomorrow if they allow for click-and-collect to access the stock in the stores)

So if you have a BigW store near you, hop on down tomorrow to see if they still have any left. Or check the site again tomorrow to see if they are allowing for click-and-collect from the stores.

-

And remember, if you miss out on Skylynx at BigW, it isn't the end of the world... there will be more coming in a few months time, at some of the other retailers, and Amazon Australia.

But good luck to everyone tomorrow, and hopefully most of you manage to get one at its discounted price of $119 (before the toy scalpers get them).

Sadly, but understandably, a lot of retail staff aren't willing to enforce rules with determined consumers. It's not worth standing up for the company at their paygrade - they can't physically stop the customer, as such. With self-service, it's even harder to stop it.

Ok, I definitely don't trust their stock levels on the website. Says Underwood has stock while Upper Mt Gravatt has none even though the opposite was true while I was there.

Picked up Sky Lynx from Kawana and Optimus from Maroochydore. Was the last Sky Lynx at Kawana and they didn't have any Optimus Primes, but Maroochydore had a couple of both, which makes sense as Maroochydore is the new fancy store so they'll be pushing stock there.

It feels so pointless with the delivery fee.
I've called Big W Campsie, Penrith and Campbelltown with none in stock. Called Narellan as well but there were 4 other people on hold for the toy section so couldn't be bothered waiting. This is infuriating.

Well, I'm unlucky on my end, when I arrived at my local Big W I saw a person at the checkout with the entire Skylynx stock.

Next time you see someone buying a scalper-load of a limited item like that, leaving none behind (and this is for everyone else too) take a photo of the person with the toys and post it up or send it to me to post up.

They may also legitimately be buying them (eg 3 or 4 units) for friends or acquaintances that can't make it to store or have difficulty finding one.

Seems pretty unlikely...?

I mean, I can't speak for everyone, there's only my brother who occasionally buys transformers as well. I'm not close friends with any other adult collectors, and they'd need to be REAL GOOD friends for me to go and do a bulk buy of space shuttle lizards.

And if someone was at that level, they'd likely have a presence here anyway...

I wouldn't want everyone being tarred with the same brush.

I think it would be very very rare for someone to be buying four or more of one toy, but obviously quoting a number is still going to end up with a remote chance of a legitimate person purchasing several units for a group of people (which I've done once in the past, so I edited my post). However, we've already had two people here report seeing someone buying up all remaining stock of Skylynx, of 5-15 units... which isn't fair on others wanting one if they are just being sold off at inflated prices online to the people who missed out, and those are the people I care about.

Some people might think it is extreme to be photographing someone who looks to be a toy scalper cleaning out a store, but if someone was legitimately buying several units for friends at the same time, they would be someone on one of our sites, or someone here knows them to vouch for them. Even with all of the people I know who keep asking me for favours when I'm toy-hunting, I don't think I've ever bought more than 2 extra units at the one time... there are just too many variables that prevent more than 1 or 2 people wanting me to buy a toy at the same time. For someone to be seen buying 5 or 15 Skylynx toys at once so that none were left at the store, and for no one here or on our facebook page mention helping out others, or have several people crediting the same person for helping them, it's not even realistically possible in a country like ours with our small collector community.

We don't have a huge toy-scalper problem here, but with the current economic climate encouraging people to be more creative with making money, I don't want more fans missing out on limited release items just because we've sat back and let the problem get worse without at least trying to do something... or at least have people offer suggestions to help limit or prevent it from happening in future. I don't mind criticism, as long as those people are also offering suggestions for us to achieve the goal (helping out fellow fans) in a better way. When there is a problem and people complain about the first possible solution without offering up something better, it doesn't help the people we are trying to help.... it just helps the problem to continue, and probably get worse.

We can't expect retailers to do anything either, even if they enforced purchase limits, because single-item restrictions will just hurt those of us who do occasionally buy an extra toy for a friend who has asked for a favour. And toy-scalpers will work around the restrictions anyway, by just buying one at a time (with the self-checkouts making that easier).

More people are finding SS Voyager Sentinel and Scrapper at BigW stores for $35, as it is one of their regular size classes (the Leaders are unlikely to restock as they aren't a regular product line for BigW).

Also... since the sale is on for 2 more weeks, which means 2 more weeks you can use their catalogue for price-matching (if you find a store with something you need that price-matches), and if you still need a copy of the toy sale catalogue, check out a Woolworths... as the one near me has hundreds of copies at their registers.

I'd recommend getting Studio Series Leader toys online (like Amazon), as the are really unreliable at retail here. The ones at BigW for their toysale are wave 2 from 18 months ago... and we haven't had any of the later waves here.

- - - Wave 2 (JAN 2019) OUT ASIA JAN - US JAN - HERE (limited release)
- SS-34 (TF3) Megatron(Decep - tanker truck - new) w/ Igor (figurine)
- SS-35 (TF2) Jetfire (Auto - stealth jet - new) (can combine with SS-32)
- - - Wave 3 (AUG 2019) OUT US AUG - NOT HERE
- SS-44 (TF3) Optimus Prime (Auto - truck with trailer - remould VOY SS-32 with new trailer)
- - - Wave 4 (OCT 2019) OUT ASIA DEC - NOT HERE
- SS-55 (TF2) Constructicon Scavenger (Decep - excavator - new) (part of Devastator)
- SS-56 (TF3) Shockwave (Decep - Cybertronian tank - new) with Brains, Wheelie & Paratrooper (figurines)
- - - Wave 5 (NOV 2020) (possibly out in Asia last month)
- SS-66 (TF2) Constructicon Overload (Decep - long dump truck - new) (part of Devastator)

It's almost like someone at Hasbro knew that something bad economically was going to happen in 2020 (the virus) as they only had planned ahead to release just one Leader toy for 2020, compare to 5 planned and released in 2019.

Voyagers may be up-to-date now, but we missed two waves and had limited stock of a third last year, just to give Hasbro Australia enough time to sell off their first two waves (from 2018) to finally order in more Voyagers from China (the last couple of waves from this year).
