Like it says on the tin: SS 86 Jazz and Hotrod officially revealed, courtesy of comicbook.com (https://comicbook.com/gear/news/transformers-the-movie-studio-series-jazz-hot-rod-revealed/#2)
Jazz has a "race car" mode, so no license to use the Porsche 935 alt mode.
The 86 line is individually numbered Jazz is SS 86-01 and Hotrod is 86-04, just to make things difficult.
Jazz's deco is "14" and not "4", probably for legal reasons, the racing stripes, numbering, etc are owned by Porsche or the car's sponsors.
Hotrod comes with accessories and is listed as a voyager class price point.

I don't blame you for being skeptical, but I'm very confident that it's licensed. The vehicle details match up pretty closely with the real life vehicle. Sure the proportions are a bit skewed but I'm gonna put that down to movie accuracy. I'd be amazed if they could get away with doing an alt mode that close without stepping on Porsche's toes, just look at how radically different RTS and POTP Jazz's alt modes were to get around licensing.

I think in part that would be due to movie accuracy and also they probably didn't want to bother just getting permission just for the 4, so they added a 1 which they know every man and his dog will scrub off as soon as it's out of the box. :p

But hey, even if it's not licensed it's damn near close enough that I'm more than satisfied. Thank you Hasbro!

I didn't know this until today but 14 is a hate symbol (and I think it just landed me in Twitter jail by accident.)
Now this is the second time a Jazz figure has been problematic, the first was when a graphic designer created a Cybertronian MAGA tampo for POTP Jazz, Hasbro was quick to denounce the tampo application and now the 14 which relates to... Ugh look it up, I don't want to discuss it here.
It's just that twice is more than coincidence and it's possible that someone within the Transformers team is ugh and has urggh, an agenda. Poor Jazz, at least there's toyhax or a gentle application of isopropyl alcohol to remove the 1.

I'm just quoting comicbook.com there, I'm not here for the portrayal of accuracy but we'll probably find out once the toy is released if it's licensed by Porsche. I agree that it's a great representation of Jazz.

Have they made a big deal about licensing for previous Studio Series figures, beyond a logo on the back of the box? Genuine question as I actually don't recall.

I had to google this myself (google ?14 words?, and you?ll find its actually a very racist white supremecist saying), but outside of those circles its not widely known, and I?m sure was unintentional on Hasbro?s part. But I?ll be taking SMHFConvoy?s advice and using isopropyl alcohol to remove it. I?m hoping there will be toyhax reprolabels for the bonnet of the car as well.

I just hope the doors aren't a painted transparent plastic, it doesn't look like it but once reviews go up we'll know.
Like wise with whether the vehicle mode is or isn't licensed we'll know once you can get your hands on the box.

They do tend to at least mention in the product description whether it's licensed or not, like Netflix Bumblebee for example says Volkswagen or Off-road Bumblebee says Jeep, so there's a good chance Jazz isn't licensed. Do feel that they've done enough to differentiate from the real-world car anyway.

It's more concerning that this is the second Jazz figure that has had this sort of crap happen to and seeing as G1 Jazz is coded as a POC it's disrespectful to the character of Jazz and the voice actor Scatman Crothers.
As to you not caring, I can only guess you've never been discriminated against.

I guess that means the 1986 movie toys are the ones being shown off by Hasbro tonight... and since the advance notice of the live reveal was only 2 days ago I guess they are just trying to keep up with the leaks.

I have not been discriminated against no and I don't discriminate against others.
And what do you mean Jazz is coded as a POC? Transformers don't have nationalities.
MAGA isn't racist, it's just someone that supports Trump as far as I know. Stupid to put it on POTP Jazz in the first place but not racist.
Chances of there being a secret racist person working within Hasbro is most likely very slim.
You said yourself you just found out that the number 14 "means something", as in you had to seek out the information. Being upset about the number and wanting it removed just gives these people more power. We shouldn't let them have some sort of "ownership" over a simple number. Imagine if some nut job group used Elmo as their symbol and Sesame Street removed the character for this reason.

What I'd suggest to you, is to reflect on this moment, see how fortunate you are for not having to deal with discrimination and maybe develop a little empathy for those who have.
I'd also think about the next time you participate in a discussion about sensitive issues maybe choose your wording carefully so you don't get called out on it.

Porsche, in general, is very picky with who they license to. Normally when someone gets a Porsche license it ends up in a press release or similar.
In a way, it really sucks that VW lets all their brands control their own licensing (which to be clear, that is how most car companies do it). Because while most car companies around the world are like "yes we would love to license our car to your project because it's advertising we get paid for". Porsche, on the other hand, is super precious about their license. I wish VW would just take over the Porsche licensing and apply some common sense to it instead of what it is now which is the brand being placed on a pedestal only certain companies are worthy to touch.

.
I don?t even thing you need to be a person of colour to find white superemist sayings offensive, and you also raise a good point about the late Scatman Carothers.
These characters mean something to us, or else they wouldn?t still be selling nearly three and half decades later.
I had absolutely no idea about the ethnicity of Jazz?s voice actor growing up. I just *loved* the voice, and thought Jazz was just the coolest of all the Autobots. There were some I liked more, but he was ?cool?, and he genuinely loved Earth music. It?s only later as an adult I found out Scatman had passed on, but he would definitely have been a voice actor I would want to have met. And so I think its understandable to feel protective towards the character, and his image.
So to have this stuff pulled twice now on a Jazz release angers me. We know that the first was intentional and put in by a rogue employee, and that they had to do a running change to the paint apps. I can?t see why they can?t do the same if this was genuinely unintentional.

It's more the fact these figures have the articulation that the actual G1 toys are lacking. My first ever transformer was G1 chromedome when I was a kid. Now I have have Maketoys Cupola which is soo much better.

I like to believe it's unintentional, I was only aware of 14 being a hate symbol as of today but to have it happen twice to the same character has me concerned. At the same time it's obscure enough that the design and legal team gave it the thumbs up.
Otherwise you've got to face the uncomfortable truth that someone on the transformers team is a racist.

What's that saying about malice and incomptence?
I bet it was something like:
Hasbro lawyer: Porsche might sue us if we don't change the deco a bit more, so change something.
Hasbro designer: I guess I'll put a 1 in front of the 4.
Hasbro lawyer: That's good, you can start producing the figures.
Months later...
Observent person on the internet: Hey Hasbro, you know you put a white supremisist reference on a black character?
Hasbro lawyer: Oh ****! Well I guess I better find another job.

Hard to make a call on the number thing. Given the big POTP fiasco, it honestly wouldn't surprise me and I don't think many of the concerns are unsubstantiated. Given the adherence to accuracy in this line and the presence of the number 4 on every other G1 based Jazz before this one, it's quite odd that they would suddenly deviate randomly like this. Maybe flew under the radar.
Regardless, Hot Rod and Jazz look fantastic and faithful to their medium. Very pleased.

A better look at the figures here (https://news.tfw2005.com/2020/10/16/transformers-studio-series-86-retro-headmasters-official-images-pre-orders-live-422072).

Those who have been around for a while might remember the Collector Club wanting to call their first Combiner toy "Nexus Maximus" back in 2009, and the people at Hasbro who approve the names on their licensed products didn't know that it was a name for a particular sex toy... which kinda reassures you that most of the people at a kids toy company are not a bunch of perverts (or racists) to not catch these things... either accidentally (like the Club toy) or the intentionally by one person (the POTP Jazz toy).
Until Hasbro comes out and says anything about it, like they did for the other two, there is no way of being able to confidently pin this one on being intentional or accidental.
It's actually more annoying for any purist fans to have the number changed at all, without there being a legal (licensing) reason for the change.

I firmly believe it was a mistake. As I said, I only learnt the 14 was also a hate symbol yesterday. It's obscure, the people at Hasbro are only human and they've got other brands besides Transformers to look after as well.

He was number 14 in the Diaclone numbering and if people look at the original G1 catalogue, he is numbered 14 there as well.

Oh crap. I only just realised Jazz's animation model has no wing doors.
Still as far as Jazz goes I'm going to stick with my United Jazz. That's just an amazing figure with an amazing redeco.
I could be persuaded to get a SS86 Jazz if he fits the roll of Action Master Jazz in my collection, but a RED figure would probably be better for that anyway.

It’s hard to tell with the rumours. I know sources have said Rodimus Prime, but I think all the talk of him being a Commander class has been speculation/hoping with no source mentioning the size. He very could well be the Commander for 2020, but I think Leader is more likely.
I never thought we’d be seeing Leader/Voyager size Dinobots, and here I am eating my hat.
