View Full Version : New toy reveal Thursday NOV 5th - SS-72 MV6 Starscream

26th October 2020, 06:43 PM
UPDATE - date has changed to November 5th. Details and times to be posted up later.

If everything goes according to plan (does it ever though?), Australia will be revealing a new Transformers toy on Friday, that won't be released until April 2021.

This was originally planned to be done at the Sydney Hasbro office in July as another fan-meet reveal, but Covid prevented that... and then it was moved to October (with a different toy), and once again Covid made it too risky to have it held in their offices... so we might be having the reveal done in Brisbane on that day, if the toy sample arrives in time... posted on our facebook page to keep to Hasbro's exact timeslot.
It won't be a fan-meet reveal, as the exact time that we can post up the images and/or video is during work hours (10am Brisbane, 11am Sydney/Melbourne), and if we did a meet-up before Friday, the toy details or images are likely to be leaked, and we probably wouldn't get any more Australian reveals (it might also get some negative publicity from other parts of the country/world if we have a group of people in close proximity at this time, even if it is allowed in Brisbane).
Instead, fans will be able to come around on the weekend (not as a set time all at once) to explore the toy (be one of the first fans in the world, 5-6 months before it gets released) and post up their own opinions and photos on their websites and socials in the days after the official reveal... but details on that will be posted up on Friday (if the toy arrives).

If the toy sample doesn't show up, or something else unforeseen happens, the new toy will still be revealed later that day by Hasbro America and the various online stores that will be allowed to list their pre-orders that day.

No details will be given before the reveal, as this is one reveal I would like to see surprise everyone, as I haven't seen it listed anywhere on the rumours/leaks listings. (I haven't told anyone what it is either, even my most trusted friends, so don't bother probing any of them either.)

Typical... right after i spread the word about a toy reveal coming on Friday, a last minute change by Hasbro america has pushed back the reveal 1 week to NOV 5th. (This topic will be updated, and on facebook, when the new details are verified.)
They did the same thing with the announcement of CW Devastator being re-released, after spending a few weeks working out the details for the posting.
It now gives more time for it to be leaked before we reveal it.

As I warned in the first posting, nothing ever goes according to plan. :(

Bloody hell. I do hope it stays a secret and not some sod who wants to make a name for himself by being the first to announce it.

2 days to go (five hours ago).

Some clues posted up on fb so far - it's a Decepticon Voyager, that is NOT supposed to be a store exclusive... which rules out GEN Selects, Japanese, reissues and anything one-off.

That leaves Kingdom, Studio Series, Cyberverse, Authentics and Rescue Bots (hey, it could happen). :p

That wasn?t (intended as) a dig Dirge. Time Warrior was one of my favourite Transformers growing up, and I?d kill for a replica to be released. I remember a few years ago a sealed one went up on eBay, and I agonised over whether to bid for what would end up an obscene amount.

My mother wrote a handwritten letter to Hasbro as we couldn?t quite afford the money to get enough Robot Points to get it, and some kind hearted admin soul processed it with insufficient points. It kills me that I no longer have it, and that I?m to OCD to deal with a ?used? one.

I just thought it was unlikely to be that if Voyager sized. But a HasLab replica - that I would buy.

These are two ILM images of the Seeker jets, to show what Hasbro were trying to replicate with this mould, which I expect will be redecoed a few times. These images show that the big chunky robot turns into a very sleek jet with almost no bulk in it, so the actual toy had to put the kibble somewhere... and in all fairness, I think they did the best they could do, with what they had to work with, because you still have the same gun-pod of the ILM image at the front of the toy, in front of the kibble.
If you look at the character models of the bots that had Cybertronian modes, I think they were thrown together in a hurry without any intention of allowing for toys, so we might not see too many of them, and if we do, they will be like Starscream, with kibble to sacrifice.
I also think that the reason why Blitzwing and Starscream look very similar as bots is like in the original 80s cartoon, in that they had different alt-modes, but maintained the same robot mode in the movie (this is despite the claim that Blitzwing was originally meant to be Starscream in the Movie, as it has the same issue of different alt-modes based on the planet they are on).

Could have had the video uploaded in 4k on New Zealand's hyperfiber (4 Gigabit up/down).

I don't have NBN... I couldn't get it in the house I'm in, so I have to use my mobile phone data, and I'm in a bit of a black spot, as it cuts out a lot (online and phone calls).
I would have loved to put up a better copy, but that one took ages at a fairly low resolution, which is why I want to do a LOT of photos while I still have the toy (even if official images come out soon, as they are often only from one angle, and often hiding the flaws of the toy).

Wow, that was a surprise and half. I gotta admit it looks pretty cool! Very impressive retool!

It's a completely new mould... not a single re-used part that I can see.
I will post up side-by-side photos of both toys in robot mode (because the jet modes are obviously completely different).

Starscream is just beautiful, and I know this toy is going to hold a very special place in my Starscream collection. I?m really quite surprised, as I had assumed that if we ever did get a movie Starscream from the Bumbleverse, that it would just be a minor repaint or remould of the existing Blitzwing mold.

But Hasbro has done something completely different here- there?s too many differences for it to be a retool. Rather I think they?ve either gone for a similar aesthetic, or they?ve reused elements at the design level rather than retooling parts. The Tetra-jet looks breathtaking from above (less so from below with the kibble) but I still really love it. But so long to wait before we see it on shelves....... first world problems, right?

Hey Griffin, I wanted to thank you for handling this reveal professionally and following the rules laid down by Hasbro. I also liked the touch of making sure you distanced your comments as your own.

Hopefully this goes as a massive tick in the trust box against your name with Hasbro and could lead to further interaction between them and the Australian fan base.

I watched the video a second time, as I wanted to have a real detailed look at this toy. That plus the extra photos has me wanting it even more. So cool that that you got an exclusive to reveal Griffin, and I think you did an excellent and fair job of reviewing it (e.g. not an employee of Hasbro, comments my own). Well done!

If I could just ask, as I think they might be molded but could just be really well done stickers: in robot mode, Starscream G1 had his classic red shoulders where you?d put a sticker, and this effect is replicated in the Bumblebee Starscream. But are those etchings actually molded into the figure? They looked like they were, which would be a first for a Starscream figure and is a nice innovation.

Re the toy itself, it's not really doing it for me...I like the Blitzwing take (not super-keen on the jet mode but it's alright) but the alt-mode on this one is pretty weak IMO.

Considering our reveal had 8 hours of global sharing before Hasbro and online stores were posting up alerts for the pre-orders, I find it hard to believe that none of their news staff knew about our reveal first, or made it known on their news page that my photos and video were the first reveal.
It has been a while since they used my images or info without credit, but this "oversight" and lack of correction is almost as bad.

I wanted the images and video shared, to make sure Hasbro didn't think I was capitalising off their generosity (by limiting its access to paid members or making money off it by putting it on youtube to be monetised), I'm more concerned about people sharing the images without any credit or link to the source.

I was just scrolling back on seibertron, and they even announced the upcoming toy reveal as a new posting the week before (https://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/ozformers-will-have-a-tf-reveal-nov-5th-more-info-on-netflix-tf-toys-in-australia/45388/)... so someone knew about it.

The Starscream Samples are now on their way back to America.
I ended up having three people coming around to play with them over the weekend. (I thought there would be more interest... I guess it didn't end up being a toy that fans were too interested in. And one last group shot of Starscream with other Cybertronian Tetrajet (styled) toys. (I'd already posted up the jet mode photo, but including it here again with this one)

New official toy images have been released (https://news.tfw2005.com/2021/01/13/transformers-studio-series-ss-72-starscream-bumblebee-movie-packaging-stock-images-427266), which show a Starscream toy that isn't broken. (the images they released in November were done with a broken toy, which was what they sent to me)
