This site isn't new and I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it here before somewhere (https://sunbowmarvelarchive.blogspot.com/), but there has been something new added, so it is worth noting once again... detailing all of the older material, including what I think is the prized possession - the 1986 Movie storyboards, showing a lot of the original details that were messed up in the final version of the Movie (that fans fight over), plus the cut scene of Ultra Magnus carrying three Autobot cars to destroy Devastator just before Optimus and Megatron fight.

This archive is the gift that keeps on giving.
Just added to it are big scans of the Transformers pages in the American Toyfair catalogues from 1984 to 1990.
In addition to the on-site exhibit displays at Toyfair, this book would be the primary marketing tool for retailers, which they would take back to the office for future reference... in an era before the internet.
The 1984 pages are particularly nice, as the images and text was essentially the premiere unveiling of the Transformers concept to the world. The images might not show anything too significantly different despite being pre-production figures (like Sunstreaker having red shoulder missiles), but the product descriptions would be how these toys were being described to people who had no idea what a Transformers toy or character was.
The main page of links is here (https://sunbowmarvelarchive.blogspot.com/2021/03/april-2021-update.html) (not just Transformers pages, which is really fascinating for other toyline fans), and it has the Transformers scans split across two other pages that you have to scroll down to find the Toyfair scans (on google-drive as pdfs, but can be downloaded).

Not from that archive, but there has been another item from the 80s just found... a promotional pre-production figure of the toy that we would later see released in 1985 by Hasbro as Shockwave. (and licensed to a number of other companies during that decade, including Astro Magnum and "Shackwave" by Radio Shack (officially called Galactic Man (https://tfwiki.net/wiki/RadioShack), homaged just last year with the GEN Selects grey redeco of Siege Shockwave) that some of us had, particularly in countries that had Radio Shack, and might have been easier or cheaper to find the non-Transformers version)
The company in Japan that created the original toy was called Toyco, and this chrome silver coated version was said to be one that was sent out as promotional pieces.
(for those who don't know, the original Transformers toyline was created by people at Hasbro in America, going to Japan and buying the rights or licenses to various transforming toys from several different Japanese toy companies... some of which are competing companies, which is why a number of early Transformers Branded toys by Hasbro couldn't be released by Takara in Japan when they released the Hasbro toyline in 1985)
Toyco have tweeted out a video of the silver Shockwave (https://twitter.com/toyco_ltd/status/1385341789758844929), and screenshots can be seen here (https://news.tfw2005.com/2021/04/23/silver-chrome-toyco-astro-magnum-pre-transformers-shockwave-image-432242).

It's amazing how 30-something years later, we are still discovering things from the early years of Transformers, for the first time.
Currently on ebay is a listing (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Transformers-The-Movie-1986-Vintage-Original-Promotional-Media-Press-Kit/124521038020?hash=item1cfe0840c4:g:QlUAAOSw7~tf-jeg) for a promo pack for the 1986 Transformers Movie, for us$825 plus postage.
There are some sample photos from the promo pack, which are mirrored here (https://www.allspark.com/2021/04/transformers-the-movie-1986-vintage-original-promotional-media-press-kit-on-ebay/) for when the ebay listing disappears.
It hasn't sold yet, but I have photos of these sample pages (and more) saved from February.... but I can't remember if it was at the archive in the first post, or from TFW and the source wasn't noted.
Either way, it would be a great and rare item of Transformers history to own, so I'm surprised it hasn't sold yet... considering how much people are splashing out on single (official and 3rd party) toys & licensed statues these days.

Also noting that the Toyfair catalogues from the 80s, are at one location (https://sunbowmarvelarchive.blogspot.com/p/toyfair-catalogues.html), which is highly recommended to check out, with Transformers toys from 1984 to 1990.
I saw on the tfw posting (https://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/g1-bible-supplement-season-2-cast-formerly-owned-by-rpg-legend-available-online.1230673/) a cover letter by Jim Ward, but it wasn't included at the archive link... claiming that he had a submitted story idea rejected that was similar to "Enter the Nightbird (https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Enter_the_Nightbird)" .
The dates probably support this, as the character addendum is from February 1984, and the script for Nightbird is dated December 1984 (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1O4v7Az3HHeTpfIE7OdtqbBpIQtzonsQ0) (and first aired in September 1985).

As I said there, the opposite is likely true. The date on this addendum ought to read February 6th, 1985. I think it is purely the case that, as a prospective freelancer, Jim Ward didn't know that plot had already been done when he submitted his premises. Unless said premises are among items yet to be auctioned (they haven't been so far), there is no way to prove it conclusively.

February 1984 does feel like it is too early, but February 1985 is way too late, as the *completed* scripts with those new characters were written a month before, in January 1985... and that would be after several months of soliciting story ideas from potential writers (with the story concepts, characters and the year 2 addendum), selecting the best ones, getting them approved by Hasbro, and then soliciting people to write the scripts (which are not always the same people who submitted the story ideas).
Maybe the date on the document was mixed up and it was meant to be June 2nd instead of February 6th... which would be a better fit for the timeline.
Maybe some of the writers back then could shed some light on the rough timeline of involvement for the original scripts, from first being contacted by Sunbow to submit a story idea, to the submission of the completed script.

It was the 8th of May in America earlier today, and that means it was the unofficial 38th anniversary of Transformers, as that was the date in 1984 that can be confirmed as the first official release of anything to do with Transformers (the toys and cartoon came out a few months later).
In commemoration of the anniversary, storyboards for the TV commercial for that first issue of the Transformers comic have been posted up (https://sunbowmarvelarchive.blogspot.com/p/mp-700-transformers-part-1-1984-1985.html) (or here (https://news.tfw2005.com/2022/05/08/transformers-turns-38-year-old-marvel-comics-transformers-01-advert-storyboards-455567)), and a first for me is seeing the actual commercial on youtube... which looks to be Sunbow animation, but has a lot of concept art and colourings of characters like Megatron and the Seekers.
And take note of how the Ark originally looked, as a long black rectangular spaceship, that differs greatly from the Ark in the comic (a silver squarish spaceship) and the Ark in the cartoon (a yellow curved spaceship).

Thanks to an ebay store selling off a handful of scripts by writer and then-Sunbow Producer Doug Booth, I've managed to win and add the full script for season 2 episode Sea Change to the Sunbow Marvel Archive.
As Doug notes in his covering letter, the finished first draft runs 57 pages (down from 71). So we're talking a rough runtime of 28 minutes. 6 or 7 minutes of deleted scenes lie within.
With thanks to Jim Sorenson for storage and scanning.

With thanks to Marco Van Leeuwen, the Sunbow Marvel Archive now hosts the storyboards for G1 episode City Of Steel. This copy was previously owned by show director Nelson Shin and sent to his notoriously low-budget studio AKOM to be animated. Are the boards visually superior? Hot on the heels of the City Of Steel storyboard set come two more to the Sunbow Marvel Archive. Sold from the collections of Marvel storyboard artist Brian Ray and Sunbow producer Doug Booth respectively.
With thanks to Ryan King, Rich Helsher and Jim Sorenson.
First up is the season 1 episode S.O.S Dinobots. Clearly a rush job, requiring six artists (David Russell, Doug Lefler, Gerald Moeller, Lindsay Dawson, Bob Smith and Brian Ray). This 141-page set chronicles the construction of the Dinobots and their subsequent rescue of the Autobots after an attempt to stop the Decepticons stealing hydro-electric energy goes wrong.
Next up is Sea Change, Doug Booth's story of love between Seaspray and the alien mermaid Alana. Drawn by the mysterious "K", this massive 160-page set is packed with deleted scenes, carried over from the first draft script added to the Archive earlier this month. Those of you who have read the first draft script may be disappointed (or relieved) to learn that Baby Bumblebee and his parents will not be making an appearance in these boards.

I was going to post up a copy of what was at that link, but after reading through it I think it is necessary to read it with all of the inserted images. The images help visualise some of the elements, but NOTE - all of those artwork images in that news posting (including the "movie poster" at the top) are brand new for this presentation done by some (fan?) artists... the original script that was recently acquired for this presentation did not come with any images or concept sketches, so all of the images are just interpretations of what was written in the script.
This is one of those things that long-time fans should check out in some form (either the write-up at that link above or the video links in the post above this one, or the full script when it ends up being uploaded), as it gives massive insight into what eventually became our iconic 1986 Movie. Even though this original draft script was about 90% different to the finished movie, there is a number of key plot elements and characters that are worth knowing, such as where the name "Sweeps" came from.
One thing that stood out to me was the date this first draft was completed... before the first cartoon episode even aired in 1984. Hasbro must have been that confident of their hit toyline (based on retailer orders) lasting at least 3 years, that they started this project before they started working on Season 2 of the cartoon.
This script draft was first written in August 1984, before the first episode of the G1 cartoon had even aired. Literally right after the final episode of Season 1, "Heavy Metal War", had been written. Season 2 hadn't even been conceptualized yet.
When you look at the timeline in 1984...
- February had the American Toyfair, which gave Hasbro record pre-order sales to the retailers, knowing that they had a winner on their hands.
- March had the first season of the cartoon being scripted for production.
- May had the first issue of the comic released in America.
- August is when this first draft of the Movie script was done. (which must mean the project would have been planned and green-lit in June or July)
- September is when the first episode of the cartoon screened in America... and I think it was when the toys started showing up in stores there too.
It would be another two years (September 1986) for the Movie to be released in cinemas.

I've been given clearance for the next stage of showcasing the first TFTM script. Back in January 2021, I completed a 16k word detailed outline of the script, having read all 210 pages thoroughly to make sure nothing was missed. Done my best to approach it impartially and from the perspective of someone reading it when it was received in February 1985. With no reference to what came later, save for the little sub-headings I've put on the story beats.
Now at last, I can show my work to the public: https://sunbowmarvelarchive.blogspot.com/2022/11/detailed-outline-of-very-first.html

I take it that whoever has the draft in their possession, they aren't allowing it to be scanned and posted publicly (by anyone, not just on your site)?
There are now three different interpretations of the draft online since the UK presentation, but I'd still really like to see the actual draft - how it is written and layed out... to get the real 1980s nostalgic feel to it.
I hope it isn't just someone being selfish, preventing everyone from seeing it (on their own site, or on a dedicated archive like yours) just because they can't monetise it.

It was scanned in November 2020. Jim sent me the files in pieces, I got them assembled and did the OCR to restore them. From what I understand, he is in touch with the owner and a possible release might happen next year.
The only thing I can show of the original pages is the photo Flint Dille took when he found it. Trust me when I say that the rest of it is just as ridiculously over-written and over-directed as this first page here:

As an appropriate way to close out a bumper year of G1 cartoon production material being uncovered and brought to the public. The Sunbow Marvel Archive is now able to add one more full storyboard set before 2022 comes to an end.
David Wise' debut episode - Attack Of The Autobots - now joins S.O.S Dinobots, Heavy Metal War, City Of Steel, Atlantis Arise!, Sea Change and Cosmic Rust as the seventh storyboard set available online.
Drawn by six artists, including Peter "Aeon Flux" Chung, this set appears to be working off the first draft script instead of the finalised one. As the majority of dialogue is completely different to what was broadcast. Also, Act II includes a vastly different look and approach to the episode's central plot device: the recharging chamber

The Sunbow Marvel Archive kicks off 2023 with a bang, as The Killing Jar joins Five Faces Of Darkness, Fight Or Flee and The Return Of Optimus Prime as the 9th season 3 script of the G1 cartoon.
This particular copy of the script was originally brought to the dialogue session for this episode by Michael Charles Hill, acting in his role as producer, with numerous handwritten additions. It was contributed to the Archive by Ryan King who bought it from an ebay seller who had acquired a box of TF scripts from Wally Burr's estate (in case you're wondering, the rest of the box had numerous copies of FFOD scripts in it).
Also included with the script by Michael Charles Hill are two pages of reference artwork for the Quintesson ship featured in this episode. The design was taken from Chris Foss' artbook 21st Century. Originally conceived for Alejandro Jodorowsky's ill-fated mid-70s attempt at a Dune movie, Foss would then attempt to re-use the design as an early concept piece for the Leviathan (later the Nostromo) in Alien.
The script, along with all the other season 3 material, can be found at: https://sunbowmarvelarchive.blogspot.com/p/mp-700-transformers-part-2-1986-1987.html

In 2010, screenwriter Ron Friedman consigned many scripts and reference material from his days writing for Sunbow Productions in the mid-80s, to be sold by Heritage Auctions. A group effort by fans, coordinated by Jim Sorenson, saw 31 Transformers TV scripts, briefing binders and the second script for The Transformers The Movie bought up, scanned and made available online.
One item that eluded this endeavour was Friedman's first script for the Movie. Completed in February 1985 and rejected by Griffin-Bacal, who supplied a new outline for Friedman to make a second attempt, before Flint Dille was called in to make heavy re-writes as production commenced.
In Autumn 2020, former Sunbow producer Flint Dille was in the process of clearing out his storage, finding many items from his decades-long writing career. One such item displayed online on October 9th was a second copy of that first Movie script. Most likely in Flint's possession as reference for his and Creative Director Jay Bacal's own unsuccessful attempt at writing a Transformers movie: The Secret Of Cybertron.
The following month, Jim Sorenson flew out to LA in order to scan as many of Flint's written works from his Sunbow days before they were auctioned off. On November 2nd, he scanned this script and sent the digital files to me for merging and OCR.
The script was used as the basis for a panel presentation at TFNation 2022, hosted by Jim Sorenson and Chris McFeely, that summarised the plot and featured fanart intepretations from a quartet of artists.
Now, fourteen years since it was first seen, nearly three years since a second chance emerged and a full year since the story was revealed to the world, the Sunbow Marvel Archive is proud to present the very first script for The Transformers The Movie: https://sunbowmarvelarchive.blogspot.com/p/mp-4034-transformers-movie-sunbow.html

Now up at the Sunbow Marvel Archive are early storyboards for The Transformers The Movie. Covering the initial third of the film before jumping to Unicron's transformation. Working from a slightly earlier version of the script, they include more brutal deaths for the shuttle crew, as well as the confirmed death of Mirage (layout simplification on the final version makes it ambiguous).
The boards can be viewed via the storyboard gallery index, along with their finalised versions.
