Gen Select 27 Galvatron

Some pictures of Gen Select Galvatron have been released, and boy am I disappointed.

It is a G1 toy deco for Galvatron and it doesn't look like he has any extras included for use with Unicron.

If it did have exclusive accessories for Unicron people would complain about having to buy another Galvatron just to get them.
As far as this toy's actual purpose goes - being a G1 toy accurate redeco of Kingdom Galvatron - it does the job perfectly. I'm in.

It's almost too toy specific for my tastes.

I was hoping it would be closer to Galvatron II, which didn't have the red around the chest area or the purple crown (although I'm hoping that that is just photography and is a reflective silver)

EDIT - apparently those details are a separate sticker pack included with the toy.

I'm very curious to see him without the stickers - because the crown and the red area around the chest are showstoppers for me, but look optional.

It's almost like the base toy is more comic accurate, stickered up is more toy accurate, and Kingdom is more cartoon accurate.

Looking through some scans of TFUK comics and Galvatron's colouring is rather inconsistent early on, this toy does seem to be missing the red "belt" which is a shame. The UK dropped the toy-accurate red shoulder pads pretty quickly.

So it's not spot on classic comics Galvatron but it comes pretty close and he's ready to beat up Commander Rodimus!

I?m glad I didn?t buy pink-purple galvatron with battledamage now. I?d much prefer a toy accurate version of him. I hope though they do eventually release a blue purple one like the animation though.

Apparently the con exclusive is a reformatting Galvatron that has the aforementioned Unicron extras. Amazon had both Unicron Galvatron and Selects Galvatron in those leaked listings along with regular Galvatron.

I quite like this one, especially the green matrix.

Ah, that's good to know. I grabbed the Unicron Galvatron so if that rumour is correct I should get those Unicron accessories. Although if he is being reformatted, that means I better pick up a standard Galvatron in addition much like I do with both Ghost and normal Starscream figures.

Also, the green Matrix is the one thing I like about this figure.

I think he is passable, but not what I had pictured for this toy. The Marvel comic look especially is quite clean with the slight blue tinged grey and red bits. Interestingly, the purple on these photos seems to be the purple most wanted for the Kingdom leader, though it may vary with the light. The chrome silver sticker for the plastic purple crown part is very distracting. It's a shame they didn't want to paint or mould the crown in the grey.

The stickers are quite ugly but thankfully optional.

Not a figure that I am planning to get, but it is great for all the Marvel/G1 toy-accurate fans to get the option.

I think I'm alone in wanting a Galvatron as rendered by Geoff Senior & Gina Hart in UK TF 86 :) Slightly different to this toy version, and also different from the later depictions from the 80s (and also different from their own work two issues previously).

Anyway, this toy could almost be either of those (because the stickers come on a sheet), except for the belt and the head. Just can't get past those. Oh, and Galvatron should be metallic grey or silver (which is what all the various colouring techniques in the comics, both UK and US, were attempting to deliver).

No one knows.... it was just a listing for “galvatron unicron” but the price was about 30 higher than a leader, so assumed there is more

$30 wouldn't account for it - but there was talk that more micro-figs were coming right? That the Unicron stand includes spaces for future additions.

This Galvatron hasn't shown up at any local preorders yet has it? Can't see on Amazon.com.au or Zing.

I couldn't find him on the Amazon Hasbro Transformers Pre-Orders page, and the product page doesn't work yet, but I had him wishlisted a while ago and the product images and price shows up now, for $91.70.

It does look great without all those stickers, yes. Not exactly what I want, but close enough (and some things can be done about at least one of the things I want different). Happy I ordered one through EB, although I now feel kinda like I'm paying $20-odd for a bunch of shitty stickers I'll be throwing away :)

Still not watching the video, though. Thought he was annoying as hell before he started buying stolen goods (and presumably soliciting their theft).

Well, that won't happen. It's a Selects item. Even EB Games doesn't just get them in and put them on the shelf, they only supply what is specificaly ordered.

I've picked up plenty of Selects in store at Zing. If not, I'm not overly fussed and like anything else, I usually find a cheap alternative online

The EB Games in the same centre admittedly doesn't do it as much.

Usually items that are removed from their site within a couple weeks are ones that they are only ordering enough to cover pre-orders... but if it is an item that stayed there for pre-order until it was released, it generally means that they were allocated stock, and often leave the listing up even if they sold out of their allocation.

Then if items show up for sale in stores that was an item specially ordered to match pre-orders, they are probably cancelled/unfulfilled orders.

GS-27 Galvatron (toy colours) is now out in Hong Kong (https://news.tfw2005.com/2021/09/11/transformers-generations-selects-war-for-cybertron-voyager-galvatron-out-in-hong-kong-440872).
It is scheduled for release here in the first week of October... but delays of recent toys will probably affect this one as well.
(America isn't expected to get it until November)

It looks like the gun barrel is sparkly, like the original 1986 toy.

Can confirm that the cannon is indeed sparkly. Also, at least some of this batch have the shoulders assembled correctly (vertical notch to front, top of tongue in shoulder smoothly curved instead of detailed). Looks great without the stickers, although some paint is necessary (the crest, the belt).

Mine arrived last week from Amazon Australia, so I cancelled my ebgames order. I didn't even think to check the shoulders... I guess I wasn't too fussed about it on the regular one.

I've read that all the Gen Selects have good shoulders, but don't quote me on that. So far, I haven't seen one with bad shoulders.

Well, there'd be no good reason for the shoulder issue not to have been addressed, given that Hasbro has been aware of it for months now, and this is a separate production run.

Anyone tried the fix for the shoulders that has been floating around? Some people make it seem pretty straight-forward, others make it sound like an easy way to destroy the toy...

I tried it and ended up causing marks on the shoulders without managing to get them opened. So I don't recommend trying it.
I ended up getting a second Galvatron with corrected shoulders.

I managed to remove the arms off my regular retail release of Kingdom Galvatron and switched them around to the correct position. Not going to say it was easy, as a bit of force was required and one arm gave me a small heart attack as it made a loud pop sound as I pried it off (thought I'd broken it but didn't) the other came of relatively easy in comparison...

I managed to mark the plastic on one should just a tad - not a deal breaker though. :rolleyes:

It's pretty easy IF you have the right tools for the job - I bought a set of nylon car trim tools off ebay for $10, as many had recommended - as an ad hoc approach won't give you the right angle or purchase on the part and you'll scratch/stress the parts. But it also took a bit more force than I was expecting, but having done it now, I don't see any stress marks on the shoulder or elbow.


Getting back to the Selects release. I really love it, although I wish the crest was the same colour as the helmet. I got him to have a Time Wars Galvatron, and the red shoulders didn't bother me so much as the purple crest. Moulding wise I can see this is because it's made of the same "unpaintable" nylon plastic used for the upper arm pieces - so it was a choice of a purple crest of a white arm, which they tried to alleviate by the silver stickers, but I might see if I can paint it to better match the head, or print a replacement crest more inline with the rounded comic head.

Seems more effort/expense involved than is warranted for me; I'm not really bothered by it (as I have said elsewhere, I didn't even realise it was a thing until it was pointed out to me), was just idly curious and wondering if it might be something for some spare time, the way painting the toy version was :)
