View Full Version : Classics 2.0 Schedule Wave 1 Information Released

i_amtrunks
24th January 2008, 12:56 PM
So the Collector's Club (http://www.transformersclub.com/) have released their big news:

Classics 2.0 Wave 1 Deluxes:
- Sunstreaker
- Prowl
- Tankor (Formerly Octane)

Classics 2.0 Wave 2 Ultras:
- Onslaught
- Powerglide

No Voyagers. Powerglide as one of the largest Classics will be weird, and I guess Shell or someone had the rights to Octane, that or Archer does not believe it to be an evil sounding name.

Also if you are a member you can have a looksies at Classics Sunstreaker. I know that you cannot redistribute the image Griffin, but a description/ your thoughts would be nice.

No. Sorry. What?

Tankor?

Ok, now I'm mad.

I want to see it too! Iam dying out here!

They say that its radically different from the previous we had last year, some say for better but others say for worse. I cant say which it may be as fan reaction is very unreliable.

I am hugely concerned about wave 2. It sounds as if Powerglide will be a repaint from a past mold such as Cybertron Jetfire.

hahaha, tformers.com had a partial thumb of him up for all of 20 minutes, now they're using a pic of the concept art.

If the thumb they used was right, he is vastly different to the concept art, and has very thin arms.

So no word of which tank is to be released.

I guess the name change from Octane to Tankor must be copyright related. I was always wondering why some figures had Autobot or Decepticon as part of their name on the package and then I worked it out... it must be so it becomes copyrightable. Jazz and Ratchet are too generic. Autobot Jazz, Final Battle Jazz and Autobot Ratchet are obviously trademarks.

I would have preferred Decepticon Octane instead of Tankor, but it's no biggy.

Color me excited! :D

If Octane is too generic then Decepticon Octane (or even Mega-Octane) would have been better. All of the first set of Classics had original names except Hot Rod and Rodimus was close enough.

Tankor is not a G1 name, it's a Beast Machines name. I will continue to call the toy Octane and bah to anyone who tries to correct me!

Meh, it's just the concept pictures we saw months ago.

More pictures of octane, onslaught and the mystery tank would be real news. ;)

No, that's what it's been replaced with. The picture is an actual picture of both modes of the Sunstreeker toy.

The new TF Club magazine has photos of all five toys mentioned in the first post but it's not been released yet. The pic of Sunstreaker was a sneak peek.

I'm sure the pictures will leak out onto the Internet eventually (like the exlusive pics of Bumblebee did) but speaking on behalf of Griffin I am sure he would not want this messageboard to be breaking the exclusive launch of the images when even the big sites won't post them.

And it's annoying because I'd really like to see the picture too, but remember some people (including several members here) have paid a lot to have access to the exclusive toys and information that being a member gives them access to.

It's sure doing it's job in making me want to join the club!

I think he looks like a good, posable bot. He has the same forearms as Classics Bumblebee. And, you can easily see how Sideswipe is going to work (the upper torso will simply rotate 180.)

I'm not feeling the love for Sideswipe. Nice to have a car, but something puts me off it. Dont know if its the legs, the non clear windows, the insignia or what ..

I also dont like the idea that there are no Voyagers, but rather Ultras..

Ultra powerglide?

Myabe this means he is a proper A10 for a change, packed with weapons.

Tankor? who the hell is Tankor??????? I thought this was classics 2.0 not beastmachines? Octane is a better name in every way. Maybe Tankor was chosen to appeal to the nethandernal market sector.

Just a feeling. It doesn't make sense to make Powerglide an Ultra unless they are using an existing mold. Also Hasbro's vivid past history with strange repaints also fuels this feeling.

obviously didn't get the guy that did classics bumblebee and classics mirage to do this figure.
Looks disgusting. Looks nothing like the concept picture. HIGHLY dissapointed, and will most likely not get it.

It looks like a knock off rejected alternator!!
It has legs like alt mirage, same feet even and the limbs seem really stick like and lanky.

So there are considerable changes to the concept art, that much is clear from reading this thread.

The most important thing to me is:

Does this toy successfully represent the character of Sunstreaker in the same way that the Classics 1.0 characters (Rodimus/Hotrod, Mirage, Prime, etc) represented both their G1 counterparts (toy and cartoon/comic)?

To put it simply, does it successfully come across as a modernization of G1 Sunstreaker or did they execute considerably different approach like that Classics Onslaught we saw?

The above sounds very disappointing. I had an overwhelming feeling that Hasbro (Archer) will miss the point once again and dissapoint us with this line, it seems that my fears are coming true.

Whoa. This thread has gained traction!! I was reading it at 3 pages and it jumped out to 5!

I myself am pretty patient. We will see the pics in all eventuality. I'm all for hte figures named. Anyone who doesn't call Tankor "Octane" will be quite lonely.

Besides, does anyone call Hot Rodimus by his name? It's quite self-evident what'd Tankor will be called.

Something else no one's mentioned. We are going to have one massive fricking combiner if Onslaught is the Torso and he's an Ultra already Just thinking about it.... :D

:)I can accept Powerglide being bigger as he is a plane after all and should be bigger than the cars:).

My sentiments exact. It will be different but it makes a lot more sense to me. He managed to fit Transformers inside him but as a toy was half the size of every other bot.

24th January 2008, 11:39 PM

Not really. If anything it looks like a hybrid between the MiniCon Sparkplug and the aforementioned BT/Alt mould.

kup

I can also accept Powerglide as bigger if he succesfully portrays the feel of G1 Powerglide.

Refering to character not toy as an Ultra with the engineering of a minibot would suck :p

VAPORIZER (http://vaporizers.net/vaporizers)

Paulbot
24th January 2008, 11:50 PM
To put the Ultra size into perspective:

Powerglide's toy in 7 cm long in jet mode. An actual A-10 is 1626 cm long. That's a scale of 1:232. With an 8.5 cm robot mode, Powerglide should stand 19.7 metres tall.

G1 Starscream (and the other Seekers) are 21cm long in vehicle mode. An actual F-15 is 1944 cm long. This gives us a scale of 1:93. With a robot mode of 14 cm, Starscream should stand 12.9 metres tall.

Until this picture is released by Hasbro publically, I won't have it posted here. If you aren't a member or haven't been able to see it from someone else, you will see it eventually. It will just be a bit annoying to have to wait.
It's the main incentive for joining the official club, and if it works this time, Hasbro may be willing to release more advance images in the future.
I don't want to risk losing my membership by offering copies privately, or endorsing the posting of a picture here. Probably within a month or two, this image will be released publically anyway. And by April at BotCon, we should have heaps of images (if Hasbro allow photos to be taken).

As a verbal description, the figure is mostly yellow (expected), with black from the windows, tyres, feet and head. There is some silver on the forearms and thighs, plus a little blue on the thighs. The legs look almost identical to the BT/ALT Mirage/Hot Rod (which form the rear end of the car), while the chest is pretty much the entire roof of the car mode. The robot head tries to reflect the classic Sunstreaker head, but the side pannel/horns are too big, making him look evil like Unicron or (Energon) Bruticus Maximus.
The arms are the car doors, while the bonnet of the car mode is sitting on the back. A fairly simple transformation, but for a Deluxe Classics, it's better to be playable than be time consumingly challenging.

Man I'm glad this thread has remained civil, no big complaints about the OTCC at all (unlike an international site I frequent).

After seeing a small pic I can see where the comparisons to Alt Mirage come from, he looks alright, I know I'll pick him up, and I expect him to be about as difficult to transform as Hot Rod.

Seems Ultra Powerglide is a new mould, as all the Classics are supposed to be, which relieves me somewhat.

Thanatos
25th January 2008, 10:52 AM
I'd be happy with a new mold if it's Ultra Powerglide (I quite liked the character), but if they just repaint Wing Saber from Cybertron (owing to similar alt modes) I think I might boycott the figure.

Bartrim
25th January 2008, 11:41 AM
Considering this is being dubbed as classics 2.0 not just the next wave of classics series 1 I would think they would make a new mould. Either way I'm excited, although like most a bit thrown off by Tankor.

Gutsman Heavy

Hmmm, I just had me a look see at the picture of Mr Sunsteaker..... I think I prefer the concept pic to be honest. As Griff said, the "ears" look a bit shady and it's a little bit "off" in general feeling. The engine part doesn't seem to sit behind his head anymore...

I liked the way the silver engine transformed into his weapons, whereas here they look kind of different.

As usual though, I will reserve judgment until I have played with it (which means I have resigned myself to getting it coz it isn't all that bad really). Damn my obsessive compulsive-like need to get cool robot toys....

kup
25th January 2008, 08:03 PM
I have seen it too.

Although I do prefer the concept art more than the figure shown in the pic, I am somewhat relieved that it is still a good representation of G1 Sunstreaker. The Altmode resembles the original and the robot mode is unmistakably him.

On that note, the ridges of the roof are not to my liking and the engine block sitting on the roof appears to be mistransformed, as if its not supposed to be there. Hopefully that's the case and the Engine does fit on the back and can be transformed to be attached to the back of the robot mode for a more classic Sunstreaker look.

The color scheme is a nice lemony yellow like the original Sunstreaker and the windows look to be clear but very dark but that may be lighting. I personally don't mind the head, it is umistakably Sunstreaker.

Now from a techinical point of view, it is not apparent at first but I can see a lot of the concept art still within this figure. It seems as if the legs have been mistransformed slitely for the Altaernator look and the hood of the car is now on his back. So if we twist his legs and feet little bit and turn his head 180 we would get something that resembles the concept art more. It also appears as if what I mentioned above will be done to make the official Transformation for Sideswipe as all they need to do is change/modify the head and swap the arms.

My real fear is that Sideswipe may be made into a Botcon Exclusive as he is not mentioned in the first 2 waves. We shall see.

Overall, I don't mind this toy. It is not as good as the concept art and a bit generic looking in its design but it looks okay to me.

I will wait till more pics are released and when I am finally holding it in my hands for a more conclusive opinion but so far, I am satisfied.
