So, new film coming up, new toy line coming out.
Wave 1A has hit Big W, Target, and Kmart, in cases of 12 (case and wave info thanks to Shattered Trousers, or more correctly his brother :), over on TFW2005)
basic toys, $15 or $19 each depending on where you go (Big W opened with $15, and Target dropped to match a week later - haven't paid attention to Kmart as they lagged behind by 3 weeks):
Leo (3 per case)
Raph (2 per case)
Michelangelo (2 per case)
Donatello (2 per case)
Splinter (1 per case)
Rocksteady (1 per case)
Bebop (1 per case)
Superfly and Leatherhead are to come as swap-outs for Splinter in waves 1B and 1C
Vehicles:
Pizzafire van $65 (introductory price only, will rise to somewhere around $80)
Battle Cycle (with Raph) $49
Ninja Kick Cycle (with Leo) $49
Sewer Lair Playset $$$ (not yet at any big retailer, only at specialists and online stores so far, plus e-bayers - cheapest I've seen has been $189)
Ooze Cruisin 6-pack - the 4 turtles without the accessory sprues from the individual cards, plus a goo-spattered Bebop (again without the accessory sprue) and an April O'Neil - exclusive to Kmart in Australia, $85. I'll be waiting for an individual release for April.
Costume 4-pack - the turtles in ... costumes. Complete rip-off at $79.
There's also a bunch of gimmicked and out-of scale stuff (shouting turtles, pull-start toys, turtles fixed to skateboard, a skate ramp, masks, giant turtles, probably more that I haven't noticed), and I'm not bothing with any of it - just gimme articulated dolls, please and thank you.
October-ish release for wave 2:
basic toys (don't know if this is the whole wave, or if parts of wave 1 are being recycled)
Mondo Gecko
Scumbag
Wingnut
Ghengis Frog
large item
The Mega Mutant
What are you interested in, and have you spotted anything? The things to spot will be Superfly and Leatherhead, and with luck this line, being much more a kids line than TF or MOTU and the like, might just go under the radar for scalper-scum - but if not, then those two are ideal scalper fodder.

Seen the costume pack at Big W, and picked up a Michelangelo from Target. Was lucky they still had Rocksteady and Bepop on shelf but... wasnt sure about either of their sizes or the decision to put half of Rocksteady's body on a hinge joint.
Michelangelo is great though, definitely going for the rest of the Turtles. Nice paint work with the "ink lines" on their face that elevates what are cheap figures. Also quite like the stuff on the sprues, pizza and ooze canisters feel like they should be standard but aside from NECA movie turtles having pizza in their standard releases never seen that. Getting those, a baby turtle and paint on the nunchukus is impressive considering the 2012 figures did not have that and these cost basically the same. Think they sold all four baby turtles as an $18 figure back then?
Disappointed in the costume pack, initial intent was to get those only as I love dressed up Turtles and do not own any but NECA movie disguised Raph. That 80 price is insane, it was 55 during Big Ws sale but they just do not look as good as the individual releases. I get theres a lot more paint going onto them but maybe thats dragged budget from elsewhere cause even with the partial reuse on some of them they look like they are from a different, cheaper line.
Looking forward to the wave 2 mutants and hopefully an April. Also considering trading my 80s reissue van for this one, but will wait for reviews and another sale

I have the pizzafire van, what do you need to know?
I wasn't aware that some of the TMNT stuff was reduced during Big W's sale - they were released after it started, and everything I scanned came up at the regular price.

Yeah I got thrown off by the Big W sale too, but looked on the website after seeing it in store. Individual figures were not on sale, but do retail for Targets sale price of 15. The bikes were $39, the 4-pack was $55 and I think that is everything there was.
Nothing specific about the van, just weigh up if its fun enough to spend $80 or so on and try and sell the one I have. So, do you like the pizzafire van?

I do like it, yeah. Fun, opens cleverly, and is solidly constructed. Is very clearly modelled on a vehicle from the movie. Clips together well. Is it not still $65 at Target?
Mind you, the stickers might put you off...

Good to hear. Even if it was $65 rn we have spent enough to wait for the next sale, but having checked our assumption that it went up with their big sale over, it is $79 now. Good to know about the stickers... not a total turnoff but kind of dependant on a personal list of criteria.

Is this live action or animated movie?

Animated. Very much in the style of Into The Spiderverse.

I saw the new figures at Kmart recently and thought they looked good. I didn't mind the 'Rise of' toys too and it looks like some of those design choices have carried over to the new look.
I'm looking forward to seeing the movie.

I tested the waters by buying Michaelangelo . The articulation is really great, and while he comes with his swords there are other fun accessories as well. The baby turtle is a real bonus.
There are LOTS of ways to buy these though. There’s the evolution 3 packs which I was really tempted to pick up, there’s the individual releases (was $15 at target, now $19), and apparently (I saw it on eBay) there’s a turtle vs bad-guy as well. It’s a cheaper way to pick them up and you get your harder to find villain - but if you do, no baby turtle!

Huh, did not know about that. Battle Pack, with Leo and Superfly. With some extra paint for battle scratches. Oh, and one for Mikey and Leatherhead.

First sighting personally for wave 2. There was a Scumbug and Wingnut at a Kmart for me today, and only $10 each. Only went with Wingnut for now but also finally completed my Turtle set. Looking at the website the pizza van (the vehicle not the figure set that looks like the van) is only $50, that might seal the deal for me.
Still surprised by the quality compared to previous offerings, especially when even those have been "replaced" by simple vintage reissues for more money than these new figures in the past few years. The Turtles are one thing, I remember back in 2012 loving them and then seeing that they got most of the budget compared to some cheap looking statues of the villains, but Wingnut has four pieces of articulation in each arms AND knees. I actually just found the knees, took it for granted those were static. Not covered in paint obviously, but effective and has a few hits I would not have expected (tongue, veins on wings, fur patch under the belt I cannot even see as she sits on the desk in front of me). Ten years ago I felt a little ripped off picking up Kraangs and April, then seeing reissues of the brothers clearly cutting back on paint and stuff. Ten years later, and don't let the toy companies here this, but I feel Im shorting them of a few bucks at $15, let alone $10.
But then again, Rocksteady was $28 at EB Games and what that made me feel makes me sure $15 is definitely only a few dollars short. Then they've got some "special editions" of the turtles with more paint and less accessories for $65 and that more then balances out the low cost of these regulars.

Ah, thank you - I'll be venturing to Kmart in the morning :) Probably won't be there just yet, but hey, if you don't look you won't find.

We bought some of these for the kids for Christmas, they have jumped on the TMNT train to go along with their love of Transformers and Hot Wheels :D

Noticed Kmart stores are pretty well stocked with the regular figures, quite easy to get all the Turtles compared to when they first came out and the full team would be one or two short

Noticed the same today, especially nice with the $10 price tag they seem to have permanently dropped to there. Bought these too quickly :/
Was a fair amount of Superflys too at the one I went to today. No Splinter though, who is who I currently want

Been seeing the individual release party turtles, barely. Every shop we went into had Spock but no Michelangelo, maybe no Raph, and only one had Leo. Was very funny holding the $12 Leo in my hand and looking at the 4-pack still selling for $80. I got Leo, hoping for Mikey. Might pass on the other two (though it is odd not having full Turtle sets... the space suit was too ambitious for the budget)
This was Big W, Kmart and Target TTP. Not been having any luck at Ingle Farm or the CBD.
Oh to find an April, or a Mondo Gecko. Regretting not going for the Kmart multipack for the former... wanted the extra accessories for the Turtles
Oh right, Big W had the deluxe Superfly too

Toymate at Bankstown NSW had a whole heap of Playmates 6 inch, 2012 Classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for $15 each. Not sure if other Toymate stores have loaded up.

The new Tales Of The TMNT stuff has hit Kmart (starting with the Mutations toys that are essentially mix and match body parts). They are a softer plastic, rubbery, because otherwise the popping on and off of the parts would not work as well.
The latest Mutant Mayhem stuff (baby Bebop and Rocksteady, baby Superfly, Young Splinter) has not yet shown up, except for the Purple Dragon Cycle.

Same stuff at Kmart Ingle Farm. Wish I liked the Metalhead more than I do but the other robot with the cloak looks cool. Hope that is still around on a week where I have not just bought a new phone.

Month later and it seems every Tales figure and the five cycles on the shelf all sold at Ingle Farm. Guess there are still people who still needed the Turtles (so much for picking up the robot next time). Not really seen it anywhere else either. Glad it is doing well.

Forgot to say, a few days ago we went to Adelaide Toyworld and they had some new TMNT figures. Video game tie-in stuff, two mutants and the high school Raph and Mikey. $25 each so hoping to find Michelangelo somewhere else... nearly bought him.
Did not see anything new at Kmart Ingle Farm today, alas.

Ah, the latest stuff (Mutants Unleashed) being spotted in the US. Nice.

My kids are asking me about Ray Fillet and the baby mutant figures. Anyone know if we will see that wave at retail in Australia?
JJJ
20th October 2024, 08:15 AM
No idea. Playmates doesn't give out much information at the best of times (the latest stuff above had been seen on shelves in the US some time, spotted and reported 05/10/2024, before its actual official reveal this week), and none concerning Australia.
Some of the later waves of Mutant Mayhem have now been seen at US retail, so there's hope that they will also make their way here. It is hard to tell just what's going on, as there are currently three different lines overlapping on shelves - Mutant Mayhem, the original line based on the movie, Tales Of The TMNT, based on the series and represented primarily so far by the mix and match Mutations sub-line, and now Mutants Unleashed, based on the new video game, that turned up out of nowhere earlier this month.
MM doesn't seem to have been cancelled; stuff from it is still slipping out, so I'm thinking that it will continue to do so. Which is good, because we've yet to see the following items that we know were designed and (presumably...) sent into production:
April O'Neil
Younger Splinter (seen in the US mid-August)
kid Mondo
kid Ghengis
kid Bebop (seen in the US mid-August)
kid Rocksteady (seen in the US mid-August)
kid Scumbug
kid Wingnut
Small Fry (kid Fly Guy)
Fly Guy
Ray Fillet (seen in the US 05/10/2024)
On the other hand, it is starting to look more and more like April on her own card, not as part of the Oozing Cruising set, isn't going to turn up in Australia... But then I still haven't seen any evidence that it ever turned up at US retail on its own either.

Thank you kindly for the detailed response. Will be disappointing for my little ones if they can't get those figures, but what can you do
Fingers crossed anyway :)
