I'm not too keen. Having seen most of the moulds revealed already, can anyone be too excited? I doubt pictures will improve my initial impressions of them. Goldbug makes a bit more sense than Bumblebee. More creepier.

I'm joining the club but I doubt I'm that excited about this set. I'll probably get them... probably

at the meantime, i'll go for a box for myself first.

I'm mildly interested.

How would one go about getting the set without having to go through ebay or going overseas?

For 285 to club members, 335 to non-members, you can get the set. Download the Brochure PDF from the website and the package I'm referring to is called the "Iacon Package" (bottom left of page 2)

Ooooh. 2nd bagged set available to Iacon registrations as well. Only 200 available on 1st come, 1st serve basis. Looks like you don't need Saintly, Iceburn.

EDIT: Sorry, this is a bit redundant as was mentioned by STL, but still worth adding that this is available to non-attendees.

you'd have to join the club or pay a higher price for the set through the club. You'll need a credit card and have to fax the registration in.

This years set won't fly as quickly as last years did. Not a chance.

In addition, it does look like the rumours on TFW 2005 earlier on were correct:

They were

[quote:2db55tcx]classic optimus prime have paint purple and black
cybertron crosswise have paint white....make new jazz head
cybertron hotshot have paint gold and black....and new goldbug head
classic grimlock have paint black
cybertron starscraem have paint white and red

they come in big box with small toy[/quote:2db55tcx]

The small toy I guess was the mini-con.

It makes sense to be Cybertron Starscream too since that's the best way to fit in the mini-con.

The attendee exclusives, you'll just have to get them through eBay even if you're a member, I think. THat's why they're attendee.

Unless Griffin actually is able to get us the non-attendee figures.

I think it's a safe bet we'll have:
- Megatron

The others will likely be a bunch of Decepticons. Likely the seekers and Soundwave. But whose moulds, I don't know. I'd love to seek the Decepticon seekers though. :D

Hmm. Not very excited... but I'll still think about getting them

Excellent news. I will be interested to see them but won't have to feel aggrieved like last year, while the hardcore types can get their exclusive fix.

All I can say is:

THANK PRIMUS!

There is nothing here that I care for so no more spending crazy amounts of money for toys!

Its Bizzare but I am very relieved at this set of underwhelming Botcon figures, specially after buying full sets for two consequtive Botcon years and the giant effort involved.

Meh.

An interesting idea, and I'm glad they've gone for a distinct theme, as in the last two years.

But meh.

You may change your mind when you see them kup, most people do.

The toys and theme sounds too much like Star Trek's Mirror Universe. It might work, but suggests that there was little they could otherwise do with the limited moulds at their disposal this year.

The convention details can be found here:
http://www.botcon.com/BotCon08/images/cincibrochure%202.pdf

or from the main botcon website:
http://www.botcon.com (http://www.botcon.com/)

I was a bit worried that the registration forms were put up as well, as it could be until Tuesday until I could fax it off. Still wouldn't be happy if they are released before Tuesday though. The pre-con tours sound quite good this year. I might consider signing up for them. This is why I had to wait to book airfares, which is gonna cost me more now.

WTF that’s not too interesting to me but would be quite nice to get my hands on them and have a look at pictures, but what the hell, Autobots Evil and Decepticons good??? I’m confused!

It is a clever idea and I am looking forward to the comic but that is where my interest ends. I have seen the evil Grimlock repaint and it doesn't look that good.

It is nice that they are doing this but its not interesting enough to justify aftre market Botcon prices.

A theme such as the one they are employing here is what they should have done to begin with in the Universe line. Provide an interesting theme so that they can focus the repaints on.

Why "after market"?

Why "after market"?

I am not going to Botcon so the only way to obtain this figures is 'after market' such as on Ebay and the like.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but being in the club only gets you a $50 discount. Non-club members can order one set of figures for $335 and a 2nd set for $189.

EDIT: It seems that only club members can get the 2nd set.

I won't go in circles with this so I will allow someone who is a Club member member to explain.

At the end of the day, particularly for Australians, It is very expensive.

Have you read the brochure?

EDIT: Brochure Excerpt (emphasis mine):

The Iacon Package ($285 for club members or $335 ppd for non-members) is for those who cannot attend the show and consists of the following:

* Shattered Glass Convention Set: A five-figure boxed set which includes bad guys Optimus Prime, Grimlock, Autobot Jazz, Goldbug, and good guys Starscream and Mini-con Razorclaw, all presented in an illustrated display box. Also included with the set is a certificate of authenticity, tech specs and figure weapons.

It doesn't change that I am not willing to pay $400+ for this set.

I have already acknowledged that there are other ways to get the set aside from Botcon, it doesn't change that I am personally not willing to justify the cost which is still high if you are not a Botcon attendee/Club member. You also have to include the shipping in that cost which is HIGH.

Many others will also have to pay that amount (perhaps more) regardless of the method used. At the end it is up to the individual to justify what the figures are worth to them but to me, it lacks appeal enough to justify the non Botcon attendee/Non member price regardless of where you get them from.

I don't mean to say that the price is not high. I just wanted to make sure you (or anyone else) understood that there were non-after-market methods of acquiring the set available to non-club members. Cheers.

I always buy the boxset as a club member, so I can buy the loose figures. If anyone wants one at cost (instead of joining), send me a PM. I'll even through in the extra shipping which is normally 40-50USD for one of these to Oz.

I have the non-attendee box-set on order as well. At least I'm guaranteed those 5 figures at non-scalper prices. The other exclusives like Megatron I might have to get from Ebay if worse comes to worse.

Only just found out about the Megatron being a convention exclusive toy. A little bit annoyed that they are again having Megatron left out of the set, to be one of the 'at con' toys. I can understand that a five pack can only have a certain total size of figures, but they should have had Megatron in the pack instead of Optimus. It would have balanced up the Autobots and Decepticons a bit more as well.
