Good concept, IMO - but the shoulder cannons are just too MASSIVE.
Personally, the perfect size is the ones from Prowl/Silverstreak. It's even possible (really easily) to mod that for use with Mirage. Only 'missing' one would be for Sideswipe.

But yeah - like I said - looks way too big.
The ladder looks cool, though :)

They're the Micro Change cassettes from the 80's that weren't turned into Transformers (unlike Ravage, Rumble, Frenzy, Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, Soundwave, Reflector, Megatron, Bumblebee, Brawn, Gears, Huffer, Windcharger, Cliffjumper, Bumper etc.)

Oh... it's apparently an auto-scout cassette from the G1 cartoon episode 'A Prime Problem' (which I haven't watched since the nineties, but I'm surprised it turns out that Soundwave has another tape, since it seems like the sort of thing that would come up more often in discussions of the cassettes and thus have a higher online presence and fan-following rather than me finding out about it now). I withdraw my "why did they make it something random and non-representational". I'm not convinced that I withdraw my "instead of something... well... good" though, but I guess we'll see when it's more than a digital image.

I'd always hoped that Hasbro or Takara would do an Auto-scout, even if it was only in a short scene of one episode. I mean, surely the toy pre-existed somewhere for Sunbow to use it on the cartoon, and I'd hoped to find the pre-TF toy, or an official release of it in TFs.
It's almost tempting to get this (unofficial) one just for the heck of it...

Depends on the engine's specialty. Some engines have a water cannon instead of a ladder, others have a crane etc etc.

I do like rescue vehicle Autobots though - as Neil Kaplan said about Fire Convoy (RiD Optimus Prime), there is just something inherently noble about it as it means that they're basically a hero all the time, not only when fighting Decepticons. :)

Same here. I remember liking that I could actually tell it transformed from a cassette. The cartoon robot modes were always stylised but to my mind real world Transformers would look more like the toys (so Bumblebee should have a big, bonnet feet, not shrunken yellow sneakers).

And yes, I am aware of the impracticality.

As for the set, Autoscout's a win (obviously), the size of the missle launchers aren't a deal-breaker, while Inferno's ladder... I don't know. In alt mode it seems to replace the water cannon, while in robot mode it seem to complement it.

I got Ironhide for Christmas one year (along with Trailbreaker and Smokescreen... a very good Christmas) and I was so excited - the photos looked so cool on the box...

Man, what a let down. Which is strange of course, because he did look exactly the same as the photos on the box. Stupid childlike sense of wonder.

As such Ironhide was relegated to a caveat to my Real Transformers = Toy Transformers rule. Along with Motormaster's Roller Skates of Doom and Seeker Crotchknees - amongst others.

Hey to each his own. Ironhide definitely grew on me and I didn't need him to look like the cartoon. I just remember wanting him too look... like... something. As an adult I can see he suffers more from the limitations of '80s ('70s?) toy technology than anything else, but damn.

Curiously enough I never saw Ironhide as a robot riding a... battle chariot (?). The two were always combined, like he had some weird form of locomotion. His techspecs did say he was the slowest of the Autobots and the most fragile...

I do think their Battle Rollar was a little loose at the joints. And the toy felt very "delicate" and a lot of care has to be taken when transforming. :o The designs in this new set though are much simpler so hopefully not as much care will have to be taken. :p:D

I also think they're still a little too big, but am happy they listened to fan opinions and attempted to improve. What I don't like is that the colours will be random. I don't like buying something not knowing what I'll be getting exactly. :/ I can see many fans will want to share or swap the contents.

However I can't say that I am a fan of the missile design nor the colors chosen but at least now I know what I am getting. The ladder and autoscout is what keeps this set going but I am a bit perplexed at the ideas they keep coming up with in regards to the missiles.

Instead they should have tried to mimic G1 weapon coloring for the present Universe figures such as Mirage and Sidewsipe instead of this randomness.

A sword for Grimlock would also have been very nice.

Not the way they've done in the pic -
SOMEONE needs to be using a red missile launcher - as there's:
RM - RME - RML (red missile, red missile end, red missile launcher)
BM - BME - BML (black missile, black missile end, black missile launcher)
CM - CME - CML (chrome missile, chrome missile end, chrome missile launcher)

In the images - there was:
From left to right -
Sideswipe: CM, BML, BME
Mirage: CM, CME, BML
Alert: RM, CML, CME

So, unused:
RME, RML, BM

Overused:
CM, CME, BML

Basically, the Red Missile Launcher, Red Missile End and a Black Missile were unused, and overused a Chrome Missile, Chrome Missile End and a Black Missile Launcher...

the missle to me looks all the same, isn't it suppose to be 2 sizes the same the other a bit chunkier, realising that why would the red missle (supposely for Mirage) be so big?? :( . annouying because they indicated the missles variety wouldn't be random

my combo would be swap the front for the silver and red missle for Red alert and sideswipe respectively and use all black for Mirage (would be annouyed if he gets a thin missle type)

but the set is worth it for the Tape (TFC has rewind holes which Igear's scout doesn't ) and the extra accesories for Inferno's is great , also based on FP images i reckon these weapons are better, e.g FP Mirage gun clips on by covering the vehicle while TFC doesn't
