hey, so found out today that EXYDVD has gone into recievership, and all the stores are shut down.

Kind of a shame really, they were ok. Selections were sometimes so-so, but they were great if u needed to order something, and the website was cool for telling when things were being released.

They have gone into receivership but not all stores are shutdown since the majority are franchises. I got the email from them that while they have gone into receivership, its still business as usual until told otherwise. My local was still open today so I'm assuming that the core stores are probably going down the gurgler whilst the franchises are free to trade, probably as independents down the line.

As far as I know the one in Cairns is closed. It wasn't open Boxing Day and my sister said it wasn't open in the New Year either.

Shame, because it was pretty much the only dedicated dvd store nearby that was good with prices (as opposed to Video Ezy who always seems more expensive).

Well Chatswood's one is definitely gone. I'll have to ask my wife to take a look at the Macquarie Centre when shes there...

Not much of a surprise when JB HiFi are opening more and more stores, have bigger stores, better range and cheaper prices on most things.

Still a bit of a shame, ordering things from EzyDVD stores was always easier than through JB HiFi.

I'm sure the s'pine one is still there. But man, where else do we get our box sets and other non-mass retail dvds from now?

:DHmm they sort of backed themselves into a corner buy specialising in DVD.

They should drop the last D and name themselves EzyDigitalVideo.

I'm going to propose that they open a EzyVHS franchise chain in the latter half of 2009. Thats a definate cash cow! :D

I only buy DVDs from them if they come with the exclusive tin cans. For all other DVDs I go to JB. :p

VideoEzy is still going strong although you'd be hard pressed to find a store with an actual Video in it. :)

I mostly used EzyDVD for DVD release information rather than actually buying anything from them.

O you are a dispicable human Paulbot! :p I can't believe you used a million dollar company to further your own schemes. Tsk Tsk :D

We'll they're not all closing.

The only ones closing were ones that were going to close anyway.

The one at strathpine is fine and will continue on. The only thing though is if the parent company gets taken over and the name gets changed will be the only thing.

They are still operating as usual and were happy to take an order for the robotech collection for me. :)

I am curious though as to how they wll maintain the integrity of their supply line and their ability to buy at competitive prices. They're going to lose a high degree of economies of scale and brand too though the increased autonomy might go some way to minimising the impact of the collapse. It's bad times these and I suspect more businesses will follow that path in the coming year. :(
