Well today, sometime around 9-10ish I think, my two bottom wisdom teeth were removed. Now my face feels all swollen and anesthetic-ie. Luckily my typing is unaffected so you guys can all make sense of me, the family will have a bit more trouble. :p Maybe I should buy a Transformer to speed up my recovery.

My wifes jaw has been dodgey ever since she had her wisdom teeth removed, she believes they dislocated her jaw when she was knocked out and had massive bruising across the top of her chest from either digging their elbow in for leverage or the other option kneeling on her chest to get a better position, it is now a clicky jaw:eek:. Hope you have a quick recovery.;)

I hope your wife did something about that, it sounds incredibly messed up. Fortunatly I have'nt had my wisdom teeth out but if I did and woke up with brusies on my chest the dentist would have more than a little explaining to do.

"Uh... I replaced your teeth with candy! Incidentally you may be missing a couple of teeth... wisdom teeth as it were... But it's nothing to worry about."

Thankfully the numbness from the anesthetic it starting to wear off now and my speech has improved quite a bit. I agree with swoop about your wife though orion, that doesn't sound good.

Same. Probably got lucky in that way because I wasn't conscious for any of it.

The real pain came a few days later, went back for a check up, he took the stitches out and sent me on my merry way. Unfortunately a)- He was 100km away and b)- He didn't get all the stitches.

A few days after that, my gums started to grow over the remaining stitches, such a lovely pain it was. Your gums stretching slowly over these stitches. Luckily my local dentist was able to move them, I nearly kissed the old bugger (and he was old, still practicing in his 70's he was) because of the pain relief it brought me.

Yeah teeth removal sucks and indeed all types of teeth pain suck the big one, I had 2 out for my braces, and then all 4 wisdoms at once under a general.

Despite all the hoo hah beforehand and the 8 hour wait in the hospital waiting room before I was prepped, I can't really complain to much about the pain, I got lucky and the worst part was spitting up red goo for the first night.

For my earlier teeth removal I had a local, and had teeth yanked with those tursty pliars it was not fun, felt like I had half a face after.

And then there were the braces, and whenver they were tightened I couldn't close my mouth for a whole day.

Still the tooth removal pain does go away eventualy, once you get the abillity to suck from a straw back I reccomend a shake of some description.

I had mine out in December 2007, after I was told to get them out in June 2006. Old picture of my bottom two teeth for general purposes, not specifically for this thread:

http://www.users.on.net/~henty/Other%20Images/john_teeth.jpg

They had been bugging me, so I felt pretty relieved once they were out. I had hardly any pain at all after the day surgery, as they were growing straight up, the best kind of wisdom teeth that have to be removed you can have.

I was put under general anesthetic, and when I woke up the bottom half of my face was numb and stayed that way for the rest of the day, hence I couldn't feel food when I put it in my mouth so it was tinned spaghetti/jelly/soup for me. I tried to eat a double quarter pounder a few days later but I couldn't get my jaw open wide enough.

Adzma, you might feel sick for the next few mornings and just want to drink lots of water and watch television. That's how I felt.

Gah. I remember getting mine out right after schoolies a few years back now. It wasn't pleasant. The first time I had two taken out and it hurt for over two weeks. The second time I was up and about in two days. In hindsight, it was the experience of the person performing, the first time i had some newbie doing it and the 2nd time it was an older lady who had been doing it for a long time. Barely felt a thing but that 1st time was excrutiating.

Not looking forward to possibly getting mine out during the next 2 or so years... Spose once its done then its done though eh, like pulling off a band-aid... Only that it hurts more

To be honest I didn't really feel a lot of pain when I had my lower two third molars removed. It was just the discomfort in the first few mornings and then that was it.

I've had more painful experiences from bad food and head colds.

Teeth are a damn pain in the backside. They're expensive and we have far too many of them to begin with. Rawr!

Funny this thread is here.

About 3 years ago I had to get my left top wisdom tooth removed. It had died and had an infection. So a general anesthetic and a little pulling, it came straight out.

Then last year I was getting pain on my right side, dentist checked, teeth were fine enough, but found out then that I should have had braces as a kid because a bite test found that my teeth were out of alignment forwards-backwards and the back teeth had worn the enamel off each other. I then was suggested to use sensitive toothpaste, worked fine until...

.... last Sunday night, pain pain pain. Went to dentist monday, yep, we'll yank the top right wisdom.

Was put under general again, and the dentist went to work. Got to a point though that she wasn't sure if she should proceed due to it being bone attched to my jaw. Got the specialist in, and he went hard at it. Lots of cracking later and a short sharp jab of pain, it was out. Ended up missing a days work that day, but back yesterday. And also that night on monday, I had pizza for dinner. :D

Still sore, and still bleeding a little today, but I'll live. Also no stitches either of those times either. It'll be back 100% in a couple of weeks.

Yeah I've got dissolvable stiches in my mouth. The anesthetic has worn off today which is good. I can finally speak normally again.

Damn really? I was talking fine the entire time, even with a gauze pack in, and my anesthetic wore off by the time I drove myself home. :)

They really must dope you up well outside of QLD (mans land). :D

I had two (bottom pair) out when I was around 19 or 20... the top two have grown out and sit there minding their own business. One (left) is nice and neat while the other (right) points in a little, but causes me no problems aside from the weird angles I need to direct my toothbrush.

The removal was fairly easy, aside from one of the stitches which had gone through my _cheek_ - that made talking painful, but it dissolved after a day or two.

Not wisdom teeth, but teeth related:
I still have 2 baby teeth. Bottom front pair.
Turns out that there isn't any adult teeth growing underneath so my baby teach grew longer roots, so they should last till I'm about 25-30.
Then I gotta get fakes...

Top wisdom teeth are easily removed compared to the bottom ones. The bottom ones sit above the root canal whch makes it much trickier (and painful). The bottom ones have to be sliced to be removed, the top ones come straight out.

I had my top ones out a few years ago, local anesthetic and they were pulled out and I walked home in 30 mins from the local dentist. I was fine to eat the next day.

The bottom ones I had out in May last year... local anesthetic 30 mins of tugging and sewing later it was done - it really wasn't that bad at all, screw the $250 general anesthetic and waiting in the hospital etc... It hurt pretty bad that night and the pain killers did NOTHING! There were about 3 more days of puffing up and down then it went away and all was well...

Well almost...

$2300!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now THAT Hurt!

Is there a dirty joke in there or is it just me:rolleyes::eek:

STOP DUDE YOU'RE KILLING ME!:D

I must say I didn't even notice my Wisdom teeth coming through. One day iw as at the dentist (when I was about 25 or so) and I asked him if they had and he said "Yep."

Sweet though I, I am wise now. With a big mouth full of teeth.

The wife on the other hand has had all sorts of troubles, She had to go to hospital for the last one. I am glad she did, coz if she had them done in the chair it would have cost me an arm and a leg (plus a tooth or two) but since it was a day trip hospital visit the insurance covered it.

Strange and confusing thing insurance.....

WOOT 1000th Post!! Its only taken me about 5 years or so to get to this point in time..:D

Quality over quantity my friend. ;)

It hurt like all buggery when my wisdom teeth came out... sideways (-_-) Unfortunately they run close to a nerve so the dentist doesn't want to extract it in case they touch the nerve and I lose feeling to half my face. So I just gotta try and keep them clean, which is bloody hard because they're at a freakin' stupid angle. Sometimes a lot of crap gets caught in them and I get gum infections, then it's off to the GP to get a script for a course of anti-biotics. (T_T)

But yeah... during the time they came out I was staying with a post-grad student from Germany; she fed me baby-food. Never realised baby food tasted so bad.
