Outback

Whoah- this was done at work - while putting in final touches onto the main body of ice's two near-complete scouts (brawn and gears) and also working on STL's Brawn and Gears. They were easy to bring to work and work on in between working. So yeah - I cracked out one of the 7.50 scouts I got from TRU some months ago :)

Alt mode
The beauty of the Crosshairs deco (from the Movie - not the exclusives) is that the colours are already SO CLOSE to Outback! Something I hadn't noticed until I:
1) bought the paints for ice's custom (which is going to use Warpath - which I also didn't have at work - so I couldn't work on :b)
2) had a look at the tfwiki.
Dang! It became pretty cool an idea :) So some work later and here's how he looks like :)

Robot Mode
I like how he came out :) I threw in a lot of detail work here and there - trying to get it to resonate Outback as best I could - right down to the partial brown/silver head that he has. I was a bit torn about what colour his face should be - all silver - or blue visor like the toy (i think) I ended up going with the blue - Involved a bit of shaving away of what was already there on the sculpt - but overall - I think this is a pretty perfect mold for Gears, Brawn and Outback. They just come out looking so different cause of the paint! :) (And I do work to all of their heads - so I guess that helps a lot :)) Anyhoo - Tell me what you guys think :D

Haha - I'm still going to make yours from Warpath :) Just that for me - at the moment anyway - it's going to be the three of them being Crosshair/Strongarm :) I was looking through that box of junk that I got from the santa swap to see if I could find anything of use :\ Not really >_>;

So did you just paint the entire figure anew, or did you sand back the original paintjob to remove the allspark blue bits and just repaint those sections?

I have a Movie Crosshairs to repaint, still undecided as to who I am going to repaint him as, Looking at Brawn or Hound or Swindle, but Outback could be interesting.

That Gears is nice. Gears needs more homages! Gears is one of my G1 faves as he's one half of my first ever TF toys.

I think Gears is from Energon Strongarm that has the red windows and Brawn is from a Movie Scout figure.

Both are looking very good, Brawn is a natural fit for the mould, I never expected Gears paint scheme to work as well as it does though! :)

As iceburn pointed out, there's already an official repaint of Strongarm as Outback (Fallback) so I don't see the point of making repaints into something that already exists. *shrug* Brawn and Gears I get... but this one I don't. It's not something that I'm personally interested in but hey, it's lcz's time and money and if it makes him happy then who are we to complain. :p

well, end result...lcz has come up with a cheaper alternative INSTEAD of acquiring Botcon Fallback just to become a classic G1 Outback and he's just trying to state that with Crosshair's colours...it's easier to custom it rather than my Movie Warpath that needs more work.

Not to mention that Botcon set he comes from is pretty fugly and big waste of money unless ur a completist. The individual Fallbackis damned ugly too and not even close to resembling G1 colours.

Firstly, thanks for the comments guys :) Much appreciated :D Please note though that the Brawn and Gears that I am working for for icey are Works in progress! There's actually been a lot more paint apps put to them since that pic I sent icey :) (and I intentionally didn't post it up here cause it was kind of for him to see :b - he's graciously shared it with you guys - so cool! :D)

iamtrunks : I did sand bits here and there and also shaved bits of the head off- but overall, it's a really simple repaint thanks to the plastic colours being SO CLOSE to the colours needed for crosshairs to become Outback :) Especially the brown on the 'chest' area - it's perfect cause less paint is required than - say for a brawn that has to become a light, orange versus brown becoming...brown :D So really - Go for it :D I look forward to your version :D (also thanks for the kind words :D)

goktimus : Aye - You're not that interested in customs/repaints of this type - so fair enough - When I'd first come across the Fallback toy from Botcon, I thought it was a GREAT use of the mold. It works with the custom Brawn that I'd done beforehand (which now resides @ JuzMels :)) - BUT - when I started doing more research for my version of Outback - I noticed that the Botcon one had the colours right - But in the wrong spots.... This of course is better illustrated with a picture:

The Botcon one gets it so close! and I love that it has so many paint apps - But the way I've done it - we get the tan across most of the alt mode except for where the chest comes in for robot mode - and we get the brown chest area and tan arms/legs for the robot mode. So I just felt that my iteration of the character worked better given the mold. :) Also, seeing that it cost me 7.50 for the toy, and then a few bucks more for the paint - it really works out :)

ice : Don't worry though - I'm still intending to do your Outback using your Warpath :) Give it time - it's all coming together ^_^

STL : Yeah - I have nothing to say to you. :bbbbbb (jk) and yes - I agree with your assessment about Fallback failing to properly resemble the G1 character :) (see above)

So - thanks for viewing/reading people :) I am thinking of going to work on the head of this sucker to see how much closer I can get it to the cartoon - so we'll see :) Thanks again!
