Found this accidentally at an ALDI store while shopping for sponge and cheese. :D :D :D. It was only $2.76 per set. They also had Wall-E, Marvel Heroes(the tin box was really nice I almost bought it too!) and Winnie the Pooh.

The tin pencil box was pretty crappy, as in it dents easily as I had to search for a good one. But oh man for that price, I'm not complaining. :)

That pencil case is pretty nice, and so is the ruler. I'm going to try to get me one.

If it helps Paul, I got it from the ALDI in Southland. Still heaps when I bought mine. If you haven't got yours this weekend, send me an sms, I might be going there. It's usually either Southland or Chaddy for the groceries shopping on the weekends. :D

How are you guys finding these sets?

Here's my impression so far:

+ Gel Pens: They're very inky (thus prone to smudging)! I like how they're glossy and the ink actually becomes darker when it fully dries - more than meets the eye! It drives one of my colleagues nuts though because even dry the glossiness isn't the easiest to read (esp. at night). :p So I was asked to stop using them when filling out detention slips. d: The silver one is the worst in that regard. I'm not sure if I should use the red gel pen for marking... I don't think my Year 12s would appreciate having red gel ink smudge marks on their workbooks. :/

+ Sharpener: Works surprisingly well! Usually I find these cheap dinky sharpeners to be crappy and unable to sharpen pencils properly without damaging them - i.e.: oversharpening and exposing the pencil lead (allowing it to easily break) or undersharpening and pretty much not making the pencil sharp unless you use excessive force and sharpen it for like 5 hours.

+ Ruler: Aside from the cool Bumblebee graphic it's just a ruler. At 15cm there's not much you can do with it other than rule small lines, underline text etc. Not good for ruling full pages. I do like how the ruler is "right side up." When I was a kid I used to be frustrated at TF rulers where it would be inch side up, which meant that when I used it at school and the teacher told us to rule 2cm margins, I would rule 2 inch margins and get in trouble for it. And of course when I'd flip it cm side up, the graphic would look upside down to me! Somebody has devised the brilliant idea of having the graphic on a sticker - so I guess that in the States the sticker would be applied inch-side up whereas for the rest of the world it has been applied centimetre-side up. Everyone's happy! (this is just a theory - I have no idea what the US version of this ruler looks like, assuming that Hasbro USA has released this set there). They appear to have done the same for the movie set's ruler too. Yeah, it's a pretty small trivial thing, but I wanted to say something positive about the ruler. ;p

+ Rubber: Haven't used it, don't intend to. It just sits on top of my monitor at work. Looks nice. :)

+ Tin case: Looks nice. The kids like it. The ink scratches really easily though. The underside of my tin case already has a couple of scratches on it. Of course, the average classroom teacher's desk is like 60 years old with a surface that's bumpier than the lunar surface - I just need to take care not to let it slide around too much on the desk when I'm in class. Erk.

I have a Transformers movie ball point pen (purchased separately) which I'm keeping in there and using for most of my writing. Gel pens are no good for roll marking since, as legal documents, they may need to be photocopied. The gel ink with its reflectiveness doesn't look like it would come out so well on a photocopy. :(

I'm thinking about getting a Transformers study kit for the TF pencil... but that's a lot to pay just for a pencil (even with a rubber on the end!). Does anyone know if they sell or if Hasbro's intending to sell TF pencils individually? Maybe I should submit that as a question for Hasbro. ;)

I bought the sets mainly for the different pencil cases. Still haven't got around to open up any of them yet. :o
