View Full Version : Marvel Figs Downsized.

Hasbro have decided to downsize their Marvel figures to the 3 and 3/4 inch scale used for Star Wars and GI Joe and renaming the line 'Marvel Universe'.

Ecologically responsible or just plain tight-arses? You decide.

I'll go with the 2nd option please.
While it makes sense that they're going with that because of the existing size, doing this means that people who have followed the Marvel Legends and 6" scale Marvel lines effectively get canned. That's it. No more - wanted that other figure to complete that bla bla team? NO.

:( Economically, it makes perfect sense because of how much they sell action figures for over here. The huge markup that hit the Marvel Legends toys when they went over to Hasbro (read: from 16 dollars to a whopping 30 dollars) meant that parents would be buying less and less of these for their kids - making them slow movers - meaning that retailers won't stock them - exactly what happened.

Grr.

I actually think this is good news, now I can finally get some Joe scale marvel guys!

I collected pretty much everything from the Toybiz line + a few hasbros, they arent too great IMO. There are a few exceptions, such as Deadpool, Blade, Sabertooth, that look great, but most look awkward or crappy, although they sell quite well on my ebay store.

Thats kinda cool then you could have a team of Stormtroopers lad by Captain America and it will be in scale to each other :D

HAHA!
Considering this is a Marvel thread -

it'd have to be Cap crossing over from that universe into universe #somethingorother - but it's still amusing :D

I agree with what some others have said, it'll be cool to have Marvel hero toys in scale with other 10cm figures like Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Microman and let's not forget -- The CORPS! :D

If they ever make a Classics Series Universe Gears, they should release a special exclusive variant with a 10cm Spiderman in his black Secret Wars costume. Oh yeah. ;)

I'm interested in this, bigger figs would cut into my TFs too much!

There have been some new reveals in the MU line that have me in awe

Juggernaut
Archangel
Winter Soldier
Thanos
Iron Spider

Also worth mentioning is the fantastic Modern Thor that will be available soon

Is anyone else collecting this line?

I'm trying to over here in NZ. Though as far as I can tell we got wave one, two and three then nothing new until wave 1 2010 late last year. Plus we've got no comic packs or exclusives. To be honest though I only really wanted Union Jack and Guardian so my cherry-picking self is not too worried by that skip.

I'm hoping like heck we get wave 2 2010. As you said, the Modern Thor and Iron Man look great!

I think they actually sell out pretty well here. Everytime I see a new wave hit it gets snapped up within days. Not by me though, I get mine from BBTS because I am too lazy to hunt :)

Mmm, and on top of that there's all the glorious Iron Man 2 figures. I can see myself putting quite a bit of cash into 4 inch Marvel figures this year.

Looks like they finally double jointed Iron Man's knees too, I have the first Iron Man release (albeit in the crappy blue repaint) but the mold just sucks.

Hope this one is a major improvement.

I'm curious. Did the X-men Origins: Wolverine "Back Road Brawl" set ever get released in Australia? It never made it as far as NZ and I'm trying to figure a way to get my hands on the Sabretooth from it.

Picture of the set:

I bought mine from a seller in the US. I never saw it here.

I suggest trying ebay. It is well worth it because that Sabretooth is extremely well done. Easily one of my favourite figures

My Wave 7 and SW Comic packs arrived. Thor is absolutely awesome, easily one of the best figures released in MU so far. Doctor Doom is also pretty good, if only for the iconic status. This is my first Doctor Doom figure ever :)

My only negative is I always figured Nightcrawler was smaller than others in the comics but he seems to almost tower over Mohawk Storm (who he is packed with). But overall that is my only gripe. I am very impressed with the last SW comic pack and the 2010 waves so far.

There is still so much more to come

So I picked up a Marvel Universe Spider-man and I thought I'd give a mini review. I really like this one.

http://i379.photobucket.com/albums/oo232/Bullfinger/Combined.jpg

He's wearing his costume from the House of M event. I liked the look which is the main reason I picked him up. He's awfully tall compared to other figures in the line such as Cap America and Iron Man. The body also isn't quite articulated enough for spider-man in my opinion. Props do have to be given for his awesome web backpack though, with all his civvies rolled up in it.

All in all it's my favourite Spidey from the line so far but he hasn't had much competition in that regard...

Now if the Marvel Universe toys got to $5 or less locally then I might get them.
At current retail they are far too expensive. Rather get a couple of Transformers Legends or a Scout.

Does anyone know of, or use, any sort of flight stand or hovering stand for their MU scale figures?

Something needs to be done to give my display some extra pep.
