..the more Hot Spot and Inferno like them. But what about the rest of us?

The Melbourne forecast for this week is
Tues: 38
Weds: 41
Thurs: 40
Fri: 40
Sat: 40
Sun: 31

The media is telling us it's the longest heatwave in Melbourne since 1908! We had a cold December but it looks like Summer is about to strike back!

I believe Sydney's been having some really hot weather recently too.

Will we cope and just as importantly will our Transformers cope? Iceburn raised an interesting question in another thread. Will Transformers melt? Keep them away from the windows!

I remember last year when we had a stinking hot New Years seeing that the rub signs on my Classic TFs were activated just by radiant heat.

My biggest problem with this weather is only getting in and out of a place. It's the transition from cold to hot that kills.

Home is very pleasant at night thanks to air conditioning and just generally a good build.

The beaches aren't as good as u think they are. Great views and lots of fun but it doesn't take any of that heat away. By the time u get back in the car, ur sweaty, hot again, grimy and sandy and by the time u get home so is the car.

And it makes me think twice about catching the train to work (well when I start next week anyway)

Last time it was hot i was stuck at peak hour 5 oclock for the sandringham line, bloody cancelled in that heat. Took me like an hour and a half longer than it should have to get me to the beach. Bah.

I was riding about today, on my "lazy day" AKA: RDO. And when I stopped at the bank I took my helmet off and squeezed the fome lining inside, nothing but sweat came out... Where I can press on it some times and dust comes out.. I think my tfs are safe, My room is shaded by the fence and the shed also my curtains have been shut for the past 3 weeks. So yeah..

Ice is melting!! :)

this is why.....stupid BUILDING MANAGEMENT!
no air-conditioning for the whole day.....so hot!

Dear All

We write with reference to the air conditioning, or lack there of, experienced in the building today. We advise that due to low water pressure within the street the building was unable to refill the roof top cooling towers and therefore unable to run the building’s air conditioning plant.

We have had our contractors and building manager doing everything they can since 10.30am this morning to try and rectify the matter. We have had to be somewhat creative in refilling the towers and as a result the plant is back up and running and the building will experience cooler temperatures within the next hour.

We have been advised by City West Water that the mains pressure will return to normal by tomorrow once the issues with the Preston mains has been repaired.

We will also have our contractors onsite first thing tomorrow morning to ensure the plant is operational.

Kind Regards

I just need to find another way to get home, because the trains in Melbourne are a nightmare. I'm hanging out in the city for a couple of hours after work tomorrow. No point rushing when trains are half an hour delayed and packed when they arrive.

Yes Sydney has also had some hot weather but I think you guys in Melbourne will have it worse. I hope your TFs and other action figures / toys will be okay. I do think the heat is not too good for the plastic.

The rubsign on my Classics Prime is also activated, despite the fact that I've placed it on a level of a bookshelf that's facing away from the sun, with the blinds regularly down! I think when living in units, the higher up you go the hotter it gets (at least that's been my experience).

I was in Melbourne for the string of 30+ days before Australia Day, but damn am I glad that we left before the real heat set in.
Driving up the Hume to Canberra and surrounds would have been a killer in the old car, but the new one's air con works wonders!

It's strange, Sydney itself never really gets too hot too often, out West and South West it gets to 40 at least a dozen times a year, yet in Melbourne, the city is just as hot as the outlying suburbs.

The Melbourne heat is moving north still Sydney itself is looking at 40+ temps by Saturday, which does not bode well for those living in Penrith, Liverpool or Campbelltown.

I really feel for the Adelaidians here, the dry heat is unbearable. Perth is possibly the best city for heat, at least you get a breeze every afternoon to cool you down a bit if you cannot make it to a beach.

This is because the City and the eastern row of suburbs are cooled down by the neighbouring ocean. Melbourne City is close to the bay, but quite a distance from the ocean.

Catching and prosecuting arson is really hard since most of evidence is incinerated - so the police have my sympathy. And I'm not sure if they can throw a murder charge at them without providing malice aforethought... manslaughter perhaps and definitely destruction of property, endangerment of lives etc.

Your logic, must some how be flawed in the eyes of the government.

We have had water restrictions in the past, but that was MANY years ago. The only thing I want to see happen with that pipeline is for the main tap to be located up here and not down south because I don't trust the government one bit to stop siphoning the water if we start getting low.

Yes - and "if" they ever get caught, they will apparently be charged with murder!

As they bloody well should. The people that were going around re-lighting blazes in Victoria after they were put out should be roasted alive.

It's scary how quick the death toll is climbing, and a lot of those people didnt have a chance, the fire was too fast. It's miraculous no firies have been trapped.

And I think that NSW was lucky the weekend was so hot, the heat seemed to have kept the firebugs at home, there were only a few spot fires out near me, and they were all tackled quickly as the local Firies were patrolling up and down Eastern Creek.

GoktimusPrime

Psychologists say that the majority of arsonists light fires because they like to see things burn and get a kick out of destroying property, but that they never intend to hurt anyone. A lot of them burn down abandoned buildings. But you get a small number of people who think it's not enough and feel the urge to start bushfires.

Just unbelievable selfish, inconsiderate and stupid behaviour. They wanna see something burn? BURN YOUR OWN PROPERTY DOWN!

Gah... it's typical criminal psychology - they just don't think about how their actions effect other people - never stopping to think how they would feel if someone burned, vandalised or stole their property. It's honestly like they think, "It's okay because I don't know these people!"

Set their janglies on fire I say.

There was one man arrested but released due to lack of evidence. Another man has been arrested and afaik is still in police custody under investigation. There was a new fire that was started by lightning last night, but the main fires which started the whole thing appears to have been deliberately lit by firebugs. Police have assembled a special task force (Phoenix) to investigate this.

Reference (http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,25033579-661,00.html).

NSW Premiere Nathan Rees mentioned that NSW has sent some police officers down to assist Task Force Phoenix.

I have only two words for the police: "Get them."

Today's been quite nice in Sydney. Not too hot nor cold. A bit too humid for my liking though, mostly cos my car window keeps fogging when I'm driving so I gotta keep the demister on. (-_-) There's been rain, but it's not too bad. :)

Btw, I wonder if those arsonists can be placed under charges of terrorism... considering that people are comparing the bushfire's destruction, injuries and loss of lives with the Bali Bombing.

I wonder how many people will rebuild in the same area, and how many will move away?

I also wonder if it would be worth the government creating town Fire bunkers for small remote towns, just small ones, enough to hold 50 people for a day or so. Only suggest town ones, as if each property had to build one, it might be cost prohibitive, especially seeing as you would hope that they were never used.

Not only should they be charged with Mass Murder, but they should be charged with X amount of Animal Cruelty too...

Should charge the Green Tree Huggers. If they had have allowed planned backburning to go ahead, the fire would have had much less fuel to eat. Might not have changed much in the end, but you never know how much a couple of hundred metres of backburnning could have changed things.

Arsonists should be set alight in a glass room, free to run around as they slowly burn. Might make people think twice before starting a fire.
