It is indeed pretty awesome! It looks to be considerably better than the Superion kit which was a little underwhelming.

It seems that this set will be released in two waves:

Crossfire 2 Set A- "Blast-off"
Crossfire 2 Set B- "Swindle"

Each set does not only come with the combiner kibble but also with accessories that serve to improve the remaining two Hasbro molds such as Brawl and Onslaught. Brawl is given extra canons and weapons while Onslaught is changed into a flat bed truck with a big double barrel gun on its back which can also serve as a launching platform for blast-off!

They are sure doing several projects at one - They not only have Defender coming soon but also the Rodimus kit and all the other wacky stuff we saw in their preview art.

However what I hope for the most is an upgrade kit for Classics/Energon Devastator that makes him look a little more G1 like that TFcon poster. Perhaps the combiner kibble can serve to form the 6th Constructicon.

Fans Projects have done some superb figures of recent. I would definitely prefer this over the Hasbro release, though would still likely buy the Hasbro figure :p

Ooo looks a lot different with paint apps. In the packaging it doesn't look like a $100AU figure IMO. I like this take on G1 much more than the FP City commander though. I thought he was too bulky and anime-like.

Definitely looking forward to Roddy though

Saw the video. My light grey fears were unjustified as it seems to be a darker shade.

It is deceptively excellently engineered and rather complex. Both modes look to be straight forward but their transformation sequences are actually pretty involved. It is also taller than I expected which works for better display with Classics/Henkei.

Very impressive. Hasbro should honestly consider making a secondary line of high end items and hire Fan Projects. But given Hasbro's business model, I doubt they would ever do that.

Also maybe make an Impactor (constipation anyone:p) Figure. Surely they wont get in trouble with that as Hasbro doesn't have one at all.

If they are going as far as doing a Broadside, I don't see Topspin and Twintwist as such a remote prospect. Also keep in mind that Topspin and Twintwist are only obscure to fans who only followed the cartoon but very well know to comic and toy fans.

Also If they are able to make a cooler looking articulated Twintwist/ Topspin - which I know they can- I could just imagine how much the sales of those two would increase even a bit hehehe. but the concept of a Cybetronian attack drill and hoverjet would be most cool and welcome!:D:D

They have been using Hasbroesque tactics in order to sell repaints so it wouldn't surprise me.

There were interchangable "faces" that came with the missile packs, if that's what you mean. You use the original head, just replace the face plate. Been meaning to take photos of them all, just haven't had the time. Looks like I will do it this afternoon when I get home.

I think its worth it. Hot Rod is such a mess in bot mode. They didnt give him proper arms and his legs suck too. Compared to the other autobots, his articulation suffers a lot from the design. ith Protector on, he doesnt look stumpy anymore :)

Price would shoot up because of the impending Fan kit. We saw the same when City Commander was done... (knew I shoulda picked more up when I saw him on the shelves)

Looks like I got my Classics Rodimus at the right time... when he was released, phew. :p

Man, SO much of my TF money is going towards Fansprojects, well, projects it's not funny and this one is another to add to the list which so far is:

Bruticus Kit 1
Bruticus Kit 2
Rodimus Kit
Springer (Warbot)

so about $400 after conversion and postage :(, I could buy a Predking for that. :rolleyes:

The vehicle mode with cab attached looks awesome, but I can't say the same for the bot mode...he sorta looks the same to me. His shoulders are blocking the view of the wings on his back, which IMO defines the Rodimus G1 animated character. You can still see them pretty clear when hes got his back turned though.

For those who want this and never bought the classics/henkei hot rodimus figure, be prepared to sell a kidney. Loose complete ones are auctioning at nutty prices :p

I'm concerned over whether Vortex or Onslaught will be able to stand in robot mode with all that kibble.
The gestalt mode does look nice, however, and I guess that's how most people will display them.

'Blast Off' and 'Swindle' are awesome. The other toys are still as godawful as they've ever been. I've long since sold my Energon Destruction team, so this is one case where I'll be buying the add-on sets without even needing or wanting the thing it's supposed to add on to.

Yeah the Gestalt mode looks like the way to display em, first good looking Gestalt I've seen in years.

Glad I picked up the Hasbro part of the team in Kmart's bargain bin, even though at the time it was cause they were real cheap and a spur of the moment thing, it seems that it was destiny when this set was first announced.

They wait sealed in their box for now.

FansProject will start shipping out both Explorer & Munitioner in the first week of August.

We find out from the final QC check that two pieces will not perfectly fit all versions when combine into giant robot mode. To keep our level of quality, we had remold and replaces that two pieces for the whole shipment.

Only way to know for sure would be to compare the Energon and Universe versions I suppose. Anyone got both?

Also, I just bought myself an energon barricade last night just to have a slightly more onslaught colored chest on my version. May just mix and match and use the loser for parts. Heh.

I hope somebody comes up with an upgrade for Onslaught so that we can get a new more G1 accurate head for him. Maybe a new head for Brawl too.

Only way to know for sure would be to compare the Energon and Universe versions I suppose. Anyone got both?

I have both the energon and the universe versions. i can have a look for you later and see if there are any differences. However, if FP are talking about the ROTF version then i cant help you there as i dont have that one (even if it looks a lot like the Universe version).

I must say that the comics, short as they are, are really well done especially when hinting at what is possibly the next product to be released by the company.

I think that they are releasing so many Rodimi because they know that they will indeed sell due to the Protector Armor - There is massive demand for that toy as Henkei and Classics prices have gone through the roof since the announcement. Hasbro's very narrow and rigid business model does not allow them to sell directly to the collector market unless it's a non store exclusive of some sort (Botcon/Club) so this could be a way to exploit the collector demand with a retail release.

He looks slightly different from the comic in design but then this is a prototype and it was shown before the comic, so perhaps they've changed certain things as I've no doubt that this Roller will be comprised of various bits of kibble from the kit.

It will fit both since the mold is the same - although Henkei Rodimus with the chrome gold crest would look nicer... but since I dont have the henkei version, Ill settle for my Classics rodimus for use to this set. I just hope it doesn't become immediately scarce due to high demand.

I too hope this doesn't sell out quick. Will be hard to track down for a reasonable price if it does.

I agree guys, hopefully there will be enough produced but I think that Fansproject are wise to the demand of their upcoming set so they'll probably produce more than they would've initially considered IMO.

They seem to be the most popular 3rd party group at the moment, and for good reason :D, so with the sudden mass re-release of the Classics Rodimus mold I think they'll see this as a chance to build up some funds to invest in their other upcoming releases, which look friggin' awesome I might add. :D

the prototype was using a henkei rodimus but i doubt it will clash much on a classics version.

Hopefully the difference isn't too pronounced. Though, considering there would be more owners of Classics Rodimus (assuming Hasbro had a higher production run and wider distribution for Classics Rodimus than TakTom's Henkei Hot Rodimus), it would be smarter to match the deco of at least the initial wide release of Protector with Classics Rodimus, then do a limited/exclusive Henkei Hot Rodimus colours version later with chrome wing extensions and colours.

Much of the 'contrasting' flame deco is covered up by the armor and since the chrome may be part of the base figure (in case of Henkei) preference for it is squarely placed on individual taste - If you don't like it then simply armor up the Classics figure instead.

I think that until we see the painted version, it's hard to make a judgment on that. But because I can't afford the Henkei version, I will be going with the Classics version. Wonder how it might look with the cartoon style version of him from the 3-pack. If there is much of a difference between the 3 versions, they may do different versions of the upgrade. And possibly for the exclusive Black Rodimus.

Looks like Not-Broadside is part of the Warbot line, so maybe. Though as Kup says, could be a repaint with new weapons and such. I reckon they would like to get as much out of a mold as they could. Look at the new Causality line, they are repaint/remolds of Not-Swindle and Not-Blast-Off. Suppose we can speculate until we get an official word from them.

Though we know Broadside was planned long ago, we haven't heard any real word they they are still going with it. Though I personally think that Warbot 002 will be Broadside. And I hope he looks good. He deserves a better release than the slab of plastic he got lol :p

Indeed, it is entirely plausible that WB-002 is as Kup says, a repaint/remold of Not-Springer and, 1AZRAEL1, you make a good argument on the 'Get the most out of it' point but I dunno, I guess I'm just really hoping for Not-Broadside as I'd love a new Triplechanger and Broadside would be really cool IMO. :)

Does anyone think that Crossfire-03 could be the Glacialbots that were hinted at in the back of the Protector comic?:

I'm personally of the opinion that it may be a Classicsverse Devastator upgrade kit but someone was saying that FansProject said at Botcon that they wouldn't be touching that Hasbro mess - which could be true as some of their designers maybe be working with TFC on the Giant Not-Devastator. :confused:

It seems that Warbot-002 is not a repaint of Springer/Defender.

It was pointed out that FP add a letter to the end of their product names for repaints. e.g. Shadow Scyther is TFX-04B. So a Defender repaint would be named WB-001B.

Venksta also pretty much confirmed that WB-002 is either Broadside or Wreck-Gar.

Just to share some info with the fandom. Venksta made some comments on TFW2005 & the Allspark that shed a little light on some things (and make me more confused about others :???:).

Just confirm, the Causality line is not combiner related. Especially CA-03 to CA-05. CA-01 and CA-02 are Micromaster homages. If they were Battle Gaia homages, FP would not give them new heads or any of the other new stuff.

Also, from the many requests about Crossfire-03, don't be surprised if it turns out green first.

Well, I back tracked on my previous comment, from the last FP announcement. FP has heard what fans really want. So there could be a chance Crossfire-03 might not be what they intended, but what fans want it to be. This confirms nothing though.

The Heartmaster is not an upgrade kit. Its totally new, unexpected, and awesome.

WB-002 is not a Defender repaint or remold. Any repaints/remolds would be the same number, with an added letter. Like TFX-01B for Shadow Commander.

I had mentioned Crossfire-03 would not be an upgrade, during the last announcement from the group. But since then, after a lot of comments about who people want Crossfire-03 to be, they might get their wish.

Good point about the numbering. Though, then what IS WB-002? Could be cool if it's another triple changer.

Well, FPJ did show off silhouettes of not-Broadside and not-Wreckgar.

Yup, that is true. So Crossfire is not limited to combiners only. Causality is by the same designer, but that line is for stand alone figures now.

The idea is that FansProject has a core team. Crossfire is for designs that originated outside of that team, but were brought to them for production.

The first Crossfire (the Superion upgrade) is possible evidence of this. Before FP formally announced the release, prototype pics and maybe some 3D renders had already surfaced, with no credit attached. And in that case, the development process was far enough along that I don't believe it got the typical coverage on FP's homepage. FP's usual procedure is to debut their new project on their site first.

That was the original idea. But all of the Crossfire/Causality series is done by one designer, who is now part of the group. So its no longer a "guest designer" line or series. All in house.

All this stuff looks pretty promising, although I don't want to get my hopes up too much, How many new products of considerable size did FP actualy release last year? By my count 4, but I haven't been keeping score. So I find it difficult to believe all these things will be out by this time next year (unless most are repaints).

I would be impressed if they do release them all though, but likely poor too.:D

I am inclined to think that they would do Monstructor first and then repaint/remold it as Dinoking. FansProjects has this progressive mentality that a repaint must offer something new aside from the color scheme.

Monstructor is more known to International fans than Dinoking so Monstructor first then Dinoking. I doubt it would be done anytime soon but it would be a cool idea.

Do they have to have shells? They've been seen shelless a few times now in the comic.

I'd certainly be up for some monster TF's from FP.

Though personaly I'd prefer to see more 1988/87 Monster Transformers, While repaints like Hardhead and Darkwing cover this period Hasbro seems uninterested in doing beastbots, Fangry, Horribull, SnapDragon, Apeface, Repugnus, Flamefeather etc etc.

Actually, I said "don't be surprised if it turns out green first.". But I worded it wrong, so it could sound like a repaint. What I meant was Crossfire-03 could be something green, and what is planned now could become 04.

Now this doesn't mean it will be an upgrade for Classics Devy for sure, but he said in a few places that FP listened to what the fans kept asking for... and a lot of fans were asking for a Energon/Classics Devy upgrade. So it seems quite probable.

The problem is, I don't own that piece of crap :p, and it seems to cost an awful lot on eBay (like $140+). As much as I love FP, I can't justify that price plus the cost of the upgrade kit for an FP Devy. I'd rather buy the completely new TFC Devastator.

Maybe it will just require the center component though, who I think is called Steamhammer - and he seems to be available for only $10-$20 since he was rereleased in the original Universe line. That would be workable. But who knows if this is the case?

that would be interesting. i never liked the energon/universe brawl - he looked like a scuba diver when transformed and the tread kibble is horrible. vortex sucked too. im okay with onslaught the way he is except for the head.

I'd like a modernized Predaking. As much as i like the reissued seacons and predacons, I'd love to see what can be done to modernize the old Gestalts.

I very much like what they did with Bruticus and am looking forward to TFC Devastator. My other favourite Combiners are Menasor and Predaking.

I too would one day like to see Modern Predaking (Hasbro 3rd party whoever}, I really don't like the G1 toy cause it always looked to fat and so much better in the comic and toon.

If they ever did Predaking or an Gestalt from scratch they'd have to make sure the individual components were kick ass toys themselves though.

Of course the Crossfire toys were, so I guess that bodes well if they do.
