The protector project really has the full antention of my interest... Looks like Rodimus Prime but really isn't giving anything away.... could it be a trailer to turn Hot Rodimus into a futuristic winnebago??

If this is the case I like the idea though wondering where I will find the money to buy it as well as another Hot Rodimus figure to accomodate it:confused:

Yes that what's I'm excited about - it should be the same deal as the "City Commander" set. You can already see how parts of the trailer might be attached to Classics Hot Rod at the heels, chest and shoulders, but there does seem to be mass missing.

I prefer it actually. His vehicle mode looks like one solid vehicle, as if he doesn't have a trailer like Optimus Prime or Ultra Magnus does. So it would make sense for it to all go into his Robot mode

while I love my G1 Rodimus Prime, I would prefer this project to not have a similar trailer with mounted gun inside.

I think it would be a lot cooler for the entire trailer to be used as body armour and extra bulk/height (height especially) to make the figure look more different and imposing.

I have been studying the brighten up Protector pic at TFW and it looks as if the current Rodimus Arms needs to be replaced with the custom ones. Would the armor be a 'snap on' armor like City Commander or will it require the toy to be disassembled so that parts can be replaced?

To me it looks like the normal Rodimus arms with armor attached over the top of the arms, and some armor attached around/over the forearms with new fists.

I think Rodimus arms are position back based on the shoulder kibble. If that is the nose end of the car with the lights on the shoulders, the arms could be behind that folded down.

I am already happy with what I can see, you have me sold either way, I was just curious but I am pretty sure that it will be great. Fans Projects have proven to be in line with what I like and what I assume to be what fans have always wanted.

Would love to get another one though so I could display one with and one without the new trailer but i think everyones probably has the same idea. I doubt it. FP had the idea for a weapon set to go along with their Prime trailer for more than a year now. I saw the earlier CADs (which looked quite different) when I visited their office in December 07. Since the release of Universe 2.0/Henkei in 2008 there're now more characters to choose from and some of these weapons have changed. The ladder though, is TFC's baby and I don't think FP would want to copy someone else's good idea. ;)

That Trailer is looking awesome but why didn't they do the side stripes more G1? It kind of looks as if its up side down - just a small complaint, I still think its great ;)

On the weapons, is the chrome silver the final colors or is Fan Projects looking into adding some color like making Grimlock's sword a firery red and so forth?

It should also be pretty noticeable that the trailer panels are double layered... What kind of secret is FP holding back... I wonder? :D

I'll be honest, powered commander looks like rubbish in robot form. Trailer mode is spiffy though.

I'm more excited about the G3 Trailer. Looks like you might be able to fit a deluxe and a bumblebee in there! It's great that roller can be garaged under the crane arm.

I think its an excellent tribute to the Diaclone Powered Convoy which was pretty much the same colors. If they changed the colors he would just be some misc repaint.

Thank you for waiting. Yes, looks very nice. The stripes look like they are backwards compared to G1 Prime. (going up at the front instead of back) but the flow is a bit better, coz it looks like they would start a bit too high otherwise. Remember folks, need to consider the Feng Shui of each bot!:D

Wouldn't Hasbro make an issue of FanProjects creating whole new toys based on G1 characters? Also would hardcore fans accept them since they are not just upgrades but complete unlicensed figures? I know that unofficial brand new figures is not a new thing but neither of those companies have had the same level of recognition and exposure as Fan Projects has earned.

Although I fully appreciate what FanProjects is doing in giving us toys that Hasbro absolutely refuses to do for whatever reason, it seems as if they are tempting Hasbro to throw down the legal gauntlet and I fear for their 'safety' since Fan Projects is such a great company which is in tune with fans.

BTW: I am not trying cause trouble, just asking.

As do I. As much as I like fans project and would like to see them do full figures of the characters they had on display maybe they should concentrate on characters that never got toys such as botanica from beast machines or megatron from battle stars. I doubt hasbro would come down on the as hard for doing them as they could possibly do for makeing springer, wreck-gar ect. That being said I really hope that springer and the rest get made because they do look really good and fans projects work is top notch.

Personally i like fan projects transformers and will buy most of their stuff as most of it is an upgrade of hasbros items. And if they make figure that hasbro wont release then more power to them
Only thing I don't like is the new Prime trailer it just doesn't do anything for me, but am looking forward to the rodimus upgrade.

but FansProject seems to have their a**es covered by not calling it Rodimus prime, Springer and wreck gar etc... but have used different ambiguous names instead like protector, defender and collector respectively....

Their design is so much different to anything that hasbro have ever produced (percentage-wise) so surely they wont be able to claim copyright or IP on them....

Plus people like F_R et. al. pump out massive custom toys each day and make bulk cash selling them yet i doubt they pay any royalties to HasTakTom too.....

I hope you are right as I do like Fan Projects and will continue to support it but keep in mind that Hasbro is a massive corporation with plenty of legal resources so if they want to do something they can.

Very exciting. I particularly like the idea of a 'new' Scramble City Special Team. And Warbot - who looks like he has faces for both of his divergent character models/original toy prototype and production version. Plus if he's big that's more appropriate than his 1986 toy.

Hello does anyone know if the superion upgrades might be able to be attached to bruticus maximus as well? if not I suppose they will make a custom upgrade especially for it. The Protector upgrade looks nice also. The trailer looks awesome especially with the extra weapons. Hell everything looks good. All the other stuff looks like its still in the conceptual stage.

I hope FansProject don't cop too much flack over the new PC kit. The set released for the convention is still unique to that particular convention, and still 'exclusive'.

There are a few people raging at tfw2005 that FP 'lied to there faces'.
But technically FP never lied, the exclusive set is not going to released to mass market. Slighly differing paint apps in TF world happens all the time.
And I bet FP have been flooded with mass release request's for a Powered Commander version. Tough Situation....I think they've made the choice for the good of the wider community

i noticed from the prototype pics , itspossible one section will be white to correspond with the white-colour jet and the other darkish-gray, i reckon they should add an extra bit to hide the hands (from robot mode) on the top section of the shoulder while makinf it looks kinda pointie and roundier

Can I suggest for Fan Projects to make a Classics Combiner upgrade for Classics/Energon Devastator? It would be awesome if he were given a proper head, hands and feet and for the 'upgrade parts' to combine into the 6th Constructicon.

I would even forgive a 'not so good' robot mode with a token alt mode as any 6th Constructicon for that set would make all the difference :)

With City Commander you still need Hasbro/Takara's toy. Where as some of them are stand alone pieces.

I read that earlier and I agree with the reviewer and others who have said that the colors chosen do take away from the Superion tribute and are kinda bad. The prototype looked better due to the lighter more superion like colors.

Due to the colors and on top of that the price - I am tempted to pull out and not buy one but I have a invested so much on this since it was announced that I am in too deep (Bought a Universe Superion set that I would have otherwise not gotten). I don't want to repaint the accessory kit either because its too damn expensive to use as kitbash fodder.

This is the first FansProjects product that has disappointed me but as mentioned, I am in too far and wish to still support Fans Projects even if the 'WTF?' colors on this are something more in the realm of Hasbro paint jobs and the cost too high.

Anyway, maybe the colour in question could of been the closet colour to "As" well, as keeping it close to Grey...
While maintaining a similar Brightness of Fluorescence which can be used on Kids toys for Visual Stimulation

Or it could be due to someone trying to differentiate it (or/and save money:p) by adding Blue to the Red "which makes Purple" to Highlight the shades of White, Light Greys and Dark Greys ??????:confused:

That link I posted is just a casual fan using the limbs on his own toy, that I thought I would share with you all. If I created any false illusion that FP will be re-using the mould to release another version, that was NOT my intention at all. :mad::(

I just think that after a lot of less than enthusiastic feedback regarding the current gray color not just from here but the international boards too, it would look bad on them if they allow many fans buy this set and then release a more G1 accurate 'clearer' repaint.

It's a great set and that's its main sales appeal despite the colors and high cost but I am just putting it out there.

Nah, you got us wrong, Kyle. It just happen to hit a sore nerve with some of us about the color decision made with the Superion kit including the high cost for it - The photos highlighted that as well as fears of a future 'proper' colored version since Fan Projects looks willing to make several releases of a successful product with different colors (City Commander). autobreadticon just believes that there could be a future recolor version because its logical given Fan Project's several releases of the City Commander mold and I added that such a practice would look unfavorable on fan Projects and look more in the realm of business profit at the expense of the fan so its best not to do it.

We do like Fan Projects a lot its just that the pic made us think of an aspect that we don't like so much but as mentioned, we are still willing to trust Fan Projects by buying the product despite the color. The product is still Fantastic as mentioned by bread.

TF-X Protector is looking the goods, on quick inspection I can't work out where all the different parts of the trailer go on the robot (unlike City Commander which was a little more obvious) but I'm sure it'll be just as good.

I concur.

There is a lot of mass in the trailer for the armor which seems to be composed of boots, arm extenders as well as chest and waist armor. The armor even if folded does not have enough mass for the massive trailer so the rest must be left separate as a combat deck.

G3 trailer is really awesome!!!! well engineered, worth the money and worth the wait. Just dont get your grubby little fingers on the mirror finish surfaces. hahaha. just love it so much i bought 3 of them!!

DIA commander is great! i love all the chrome parts and the shoulder missiles and how it reflects the diaclone powered convoy toy!!!
Dammit, the comic/instructions are so good, i've got the urge to scratchbuild an energon suitcase now!!! fark....wheres my thinking cap?

Also, at first i was a bit pessimistic about the grey superion upgrade parts but they all fit really well and still looks great. Definitely enhances the value and look of superion maximus.

Hasbro should definitely be paying fansproject, or at the very least commending them, for helping to promote the hasbro toy sales!!!

I recommend people getting all three of the new fansproject items if you you havent done so already!!! hahaha

Only downside i can think of, is that i need to find me more classics prime/UM/Nemesis primes.....

Cant wait for the Protector armour and the other upcoming work from fansproject!!! :D:D:D

Nice! Though I was hoping to see if it is possible to combine another G3 trailer at the back of the first trailer (instead of the DIA Commander trailer). Nothing significant really, not doubting if it will still fit and turn, but how it would just look like if worthy for display like a bi-double trailer truck. :rolleyes:
