Ha sorry about the title.

I used to have a boxful of these guys as a kid. Well between me and my brother I guess we had 2 box loads. All given away to a family friend.

Today I purchased 25th Snake Eyes w/timber... I really hope I don't fall down the slippery slope of GI Joe collecting.

Hehehe, "COBRA The Enemy"... as opposed to "COBRA the Dental Surgeons"? :p Or possibly "COBRA The Stuttering Singaporeans*," - "Cobra-La-La-La-La-La-La!" :D

-----------------------------------------------------
*Comment was made for parody purposes only. Cobra doesn't recruit agents from Singapore as far as I know.

Oooohhh your on a dangerous precipice there, I started with 2 GI Joe 5 packs in 2007, and was impressed to say the least. And last year with TF Animated
failing to grab me, the Joes and Cobras drove back my TF collection and defeated them in open battle as I collected more Joes than TF's, only Universe and Henkei survived the onslaught. ;)

Better watch out there are some awfully nice figures in this line.

"Cobra the Dental Surgeons" would be appropriate for Doctor Mindbender, evil genius and dentist extrodinare.

I always thought the Cobra-La battle cry should be sung the same as the Smurf song. Cobra la LA la LA la la la sing a happy song....

Yeah... I know. I think a couple of factors might just save me though. The first is the supply of these things at TRU is pretty bad and even when they have figures cool enough to buy... they seem a little too expensive. At $12-13 I think I'd be out of control but not at $16. Secondly the AU$ is pretty shady against the US$ at the moment and shipping is pretty high... as a general rule I would prefer not to deal with americans... some are great, most are pretty lousy. And thirdly, I think these toys are a touch too small to display well... I don't like mosc or misb collections and this size of toy just doesn't grab me.

Your lucky you didn't start when the dollar was strong then $8 Gi Joes = yes please. ;)

Mine display plenty fine though.

haha this snake eyes cost me $24... that's what bin on ebay can inspire.

Your pictures bring back memories... especially those 2 in the blue and red. Can't really remember much about the cartoon, but the toys made a pretty big mark on my brain. How many (25th) do you own?

The cartoon was pretty campy IMO... the original Marvel comics were pretty good. Larry Hama is to G.I. Joe fans as Simon Furman is to Transformers fans. :)

I despise the cartoon, fortunately (or unfortunately for the wallet) the majority of the Gi Joe 25th anniversary releases have been characters who were prominent in the comic, as well as in the toon, Indeed Red Ninja, Arctic Commando Snake Eyes and Wraith are all characters exclusive to the comic universe.

I have to say I prefer my old Larry Hamma GI Joe comics to my old Furman/Budiansky TF comics, but the TF concept interests me more than that of GI Joe so its a pretty even match. The one thing I particularly enjoy about Hamma's writting was his perchant for rather snappy dialouge.

The guys wearing both blue and red are the Twins Tomax and Xamot the Crimson Guard commanders. Two of the series more silly characters, famed in the comic for misinterpreting one of Cobra Commanders orders and ordering the execution of GI Joe prisoners.

And did someone say camp?

I've never really kept track of my collections, TF or Joe, but I suspect with recent reinforcments the new Joes are hovering around the 50 mark eep!

Lord Zed - That Song was gold! lol And they arent 2 of the more silly characters, they are the ones that fund Cobra, without them the Commander would just be crazy. Who do you think pays for the guns from Destro ?

They did have a stupid thing going in the cartoon where they could feel each others pain, did they do that in the comics ?

The way they finished off each other's sentences was lame. (-_-)

Doubleheader (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Doubleheader) had the same speech mannerism in Transformers, but it was IMO it worked better with him since he's actually just one Autobot who happens to have two heads.

The Crimson Guard, pyramind schemes and Telephone sales help fund Cobra, the Crimson Guard commanders themself are still pretty silly, not Cobra La, or Captain Grid Iron silly though, but mid range silly.

According to Cobra doctorin "It's easy to become rich if you have a basic understanding of human nature, and absolutely no scruples whatsoever"

And in the comic they had the same twin powers as the toon, but they played them down more and more as time went on. I've alway wondered if the Crimson Guard Commanders secretly remained loyal to the original CC during the Cobra Civil War, seeing as how they were the only members of the Cobra heirachy that CC didn't kill of, or put on trial when he returned to take command of Cobra.

Well isnt it known that the crimson guards are the "elite" secret loyalty group of CC? everyone is looking out for everyone (in a weird way). I mean they are always on the lookout for any betrayal by the other and are ready to report each other in to CC. Weren't they trained as such as a weird way of showing loyalty to the high Cobra commander. So being the very utmost Crimson guard Commanders ( twins) they would have still been loyal to him but not outright, biding their proper time to strike back and be in good terms quick with CC. Anyways in the toons the CGC weren't faves of Serpentor ( nobody is anyway) and constantly get lambasted by him.

Sepentor is an ass in the cartoon, if I was in Cobra and some dude we created in a lab was shouting "This I command" Id straight up shoot him and chalk the project up to a failure.

Also some of you may not know, Cobra Commander's hatred of GI Joe comes from a failed relationship with Scarlet. Link (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=RcclSSYnoyk&feature=related)

That's one of countless reasons why the comic, kicks the cartoons butt, they had a solution for "This I command" its called Zartan and an arrow. Poor old Serpentor.... not!

I maintain the G1 Joe cartoon movie's theme song and opening intro sequence is one of the greatest things in the history of the universe.

CRASHING THROUGH THE SKY
COMES A FEARFUL CRY
COBRA! COBRAAAA!
COBRA! COBRAAAA!
ARMIES OF THE NIGHT
EVIL TAKING FLIGHT
COBRA! COBRAAAA!
COBRA! COBRAAAA!

Pretty much. :) There are a few memorable moments such as:

+ Nemesis Enforcer pwning Snowjob's HAVOC with his bare hands. Awesomes.
+ The Trial of Cobra Commander
+ Duke's deathwounding scene. :p

This I command!

Bah, I'm a comic CC fan, I have no love for the hissy fit Cobra comander of the cartoon, my CC is the despicable evil and clever villain from the comic, with his amazing grasp of the english language.

I also far prefer the confrontation between CC and Serpentor from the Devils Due comics, shortly before CC kicked Serpentor of a balcony.

CC "Ah you were engineered with such potential Serpentor.
But you lack the most important DNA of all......

MINE."

Granted that first fight scene with Cobra La was pretty impressive, the animation was decent to, had the movie had more of that and less SGT Slaughter maybe it would have been ok. Speaking of that fight I can't believe Snake Eyes got bitchslapped by a Cobra La guard, they should have given that Cobra La figure kung fu slap action or something. Ofcourse by the end of the movie the Joes are dealing with the elite guard with ease...somehow.

The trial of Cobra Commander never grabbed me, as I mentioned above the Cartoon CC is not my CC.

And the Snake through the heart!!!! Scene is memorable but not for positive reasons.

And as this has turned into a generic Gi Joe thread, just for the record, lets not forget that the Gi Joe cartoon did not end with the movie, well the Sunbow one did, but then Dic picked it up.

"Against the ruthless enemy" this time, wierd, though I do kinda like this intro by virtue of it featuring the toys which were out when I got into Gi Joe, the Hiss tank my be classic, but the Hiss 2 is just so much cooler. ;)

An excellent moment in comic history :), The DDP Joe comics were great, im lucky enough to have them all from start to finish, if anyone needs incentive to get into GI Joe, I highly recommend reading it...All of it :), especially the red shadow stuff!

The DIC series of GI Joe episodes is on of the worst cartoons in history.

From memory Falcon gets kicked off the Joe team for using drugs.

I dunno, In my mind the DD series had some great moments and some crappy ones. I didn't dig the Red Shadows at all, they just felt like a trumped up from nowhere new super threat. Also the endless Scarlet Snake Eyes drama got a bit tedious to. I did really enjoy the Serpentor returns arc, as well as Union of the snake. And also they actualy manged to introduce a few new interesting characters, while developing some old ones. I still prefer the original though, and Special Missions.

I've seen very little of the Dic cartoons, and have little desire to see more. From my exposure they are pretty sad with things like Metal Heads auntie, although the original wasn't to far of with Snake Eyes dressing as Boy George. The Sunbow and Dic cartoons could well be called Dumb and Dumber.

I don't think I ever saw the Falcon hooked on drugs episode, but he was already a moron in the movie, so are we suprised? ;)

At the risk of necromancing; I got drawn back into GIJOE with the ROC stuff going dirt cheap. Now I'm getting a USS Flagg (albeit incomplete- oh well, another project heh) as a 2nd Anniversary present from my girlfriend in just over a month- and to think I swore off collecting any more toy lines lol.

Apparently they are some secret cheap line of budget Gi joes, they are all repaint/frankenjoes with no new parts whatsoever minimal accessories and uber cheap packaging . That said they still fit in the 25th line well as they are all well thought out repaints.

Not sure about the black uniform Cobra Trooper, and Ship Wrecks neck seems a tad to long. The homages to Snakes Eyes v4 and Stormshadow V3 look good though.

Jungle Viper looks incredible but is slightly encumbered by his gear. Snake-Eyes is much more fun than his single carded ROC repaint. I think the shorter sword and sheath is a big help.
