How is the new he-man? did you get good quality versions?

Guys, if you haven't seen or read Colt Noble and the Megalords yet, you really should.

The commercial to wet your whistle:

The entire 44-page comic book (legally) online:

http://nerdcityonline.com/2009/10/26/exclusive-tim-seeleys-colt-noble-and-the-megalords-full-44-page-issue1/

(Plus there's a one-frame Transformers parody in it too.)

True genius.

The He-Man I got is staying MOC. I got another Reissue He-Man by priority mail and it a very good quality version, nice tight joints

Still no Scareglow though. Atleast I know I will get him next week

YAY!! :) My Scare Glow and He-Man reissue arrived today!! Finally!!

Absolutely loooove SG!! He-Man looks great, but I've already got the original. I gotta say, after first impressions, I actually prefer the paint job and glossy skin on the original. The reissue seems very flat and 2D. That's just from looking through the packaging though! I'm sure he'll look better when I free him!

Yeah, I got mine yesterday.

Scareglow is the best, it was inevitable, I love the vintage figure and was really excited by this guy. Mine came with great joints and all accessories.

He-Man is also great.
The eyebrows are a little more raised, sharp and angled than my first issue... not sure if I like it. Little niggle aside the quality of this figure is beyond expectations, great joints and paint!

I like Moss Man - they did a great job with the flocking! Panthor may be good after all!

Except that the &@%!^*#$ aren't flocking Panthor. Becasue they claim that at San Diego, more people wanted him unflocked. (Which is an out and out lie according to the film footage and the people who were actually there. Matty just can't be arsed flocking him.) :(

where is a good online store to get Motu reissues?

 You mean the Commemorative ones from 2000-2001? Or do you mean the current MOTU Classics, (which are more reimaginings than reissues)? Either way, eBay is sadly one of your best bets (unless you're looking at future MOTU Classic releases, in which case you should get them from http://www.mattycollector.com - Adora, Battle-Armour He-Man and Beast Man are out next week.)

I just remembered that one of the recent Mattel trademarks was Oo-Larr. In the ridiculous event that Raider's right, does that mean the geniuses at Mattel couldn't even spell Mo-Larr, or was just that the closest thing they could get to a trademark of a name already potentially owned by the Cartoon Network?

TheFallen
10th January 2010, 11:11 AM
Rumour has it that the Trademark for Oo-Larr was infact a mistake and that is why the Mo-Larr figure could not be revealed at the art show

You may still not want to believe me but here are the facts so far;

Mattel applied for the trademark of Oo-Larr (which could have been a mistake as they wanted Mo-Larr)

One of the SDCC exclusives was said to be a 'Celebrity Figure" by Toy Guru himself

The figure shown on Friday will be one of two MOTUC SDCC items. This one is more of a celebrity figure for fans. The other MOTUC figure will be revealed in April along with the rest of Mattel's SDCC items!

You may still not want to believe me but here are the facts so far;

It's not a matter of not believing you - you don't know for sure yourself - it's that it's such a hilariously insane idea for a commercially produced toy - even an exclusive.

Which means - judging by some of Matty's decisions over the past couple of years (using Digital River, getting subscribers to paying twice to ship subscription toys at the same time as regular ones, not flocking Panthor, toys selling out in an hour etc. etc.) - it's probably 100% true. :)

For anyone who has a 2009 Subscription. Do not panic if you get a subscription cancellation email

From Mattycollector.com Facebook page

Regarding the emails you've been receiving advising that your subscriptions are cancelled, we just verified with Digital River that they are NOT CANCELLED. What's happening is that because the 2009 (not 2010) subscription shipments have ended internally at DR, it triggered a notification to go out. They're working to disable this notification now.

I had a Panthor as a kid, but I've never wanted a Battle Cat. I don't want a He-Man either, so it's not like I need Battle Cat to go with him. (There are only five MOTUClassics of any sort that I haven't bought so far, and three of those are He-Man, Battle Armor He-Man and King Grayskull - they just don't interest me. I'd buy a New Adventures He-Man, though.)

Personally I can't wait for all of Feb's figures... including the stands. I even have a friend, who doesn't collect MOTUC, who is absolutely beside himself with anticipation for Battle Cat. He only bought the reissue of He-man so that he could put him on BC... no other reason at all.

Oh- and is it just me or is Battle Cats voice done by the same guy who does Seaspray?Sure is! It's Alan Oppenheimer... MOTU only had something like 4 voice actors, so they all did multiple roles. Along with Battle Cat, Oppenheimer voiced Skeletor, Mer-Man and Man-at-arms amongst others. On Transformers he did Seaspray (in his Mer-Man voice) as well as Warpath and Beachcomber! Pretty cool if you ask me!

Incidentally, he also voiced Falkor from The Never-Ending Story! He was pretty proficient in the 80s!

It's not just you - Battle Cat and Seaspray are both Allan Oppenheimer. But for some real Seasprayity you really need to watch an episode featuring Mer-Man - Oppenheimer does the exact same gargling voice for both aquatic characters.

Secret of the Sword is one of my two favourite cartoon movies ever. (It's probably not a stretch to guess what the other one is.)

Got me some classic MOTU lovin at Nexus on the weekend. A lot of figures there were missing accessories, or I wasn't sure if they were complete, but found one that I took a chance on because its gimmick was working, and was only $20 - Mosquitor (http://www.he-man.org/collecting/toy.php?id=1282).
The 'blood' gimmick would have made this one a popular one for the kiddies when it was released...

Starting to get the urge again to get the figures I'm missing (had an obsessive splurge beginning of 2008, and with this one, I'm now only missing 19 of the first 70 figures - and I really want some of the playsets, but I'd better not with BotCon approaching... :( ).

Robzy
1st February 2010, 04:04 PM
Hey Griff, that's a really good price for Mosquitor!! His asking price is usually pretty high because he's a pretty popular figure (due to the gimmick). Nice score!

I too have been buying many of the vintage figures lately. I picked up a complete original Castle Grayskull for only $80 a few weeks ago (I don't think the guy knew what he was selling, since I know a store here in SA that is selling just the Castle Grayskull box for $150! Again, that's JUST the box!)

That artwork is where the real money is... which is why some of the mini-comics I need to complete my set cost anywhere from $50-100! :(

I've looked in to it in the past, but it seems really expensive, which is why I've always just gone with the slower one. I suppose if a few of us are doing it... What's the difference in price, usually?

I believe it is $55 for 6 figures so it works out close to the same as slow postage (for each of us) but gets here quicker

EDIT: Here is the shipping costs per figure ordered

Costs are in $USD

No. - UPS - Slow Post
1 - $50.55 - $9.95
2 - $50.55 - $9.95
3 - $50.55 - $15.55
4 - $50.55 - $22.10
5 - $50.55 - $28.44
6 - $50.55 - $34.90
7 - $71.05 - $41.40
8 - $76.75 - $48.15
9 - $87.50 - $54.65
10 - $87.75 - $61.10

Robzy
3rd February 2010, 12:11 PM
That's what I figured. I know that (by using slow mail) single figures, even when bought in bulk as I do, end up being around US$30 each... mainly cos I usually only get about 3-4 a month.

But this may be worthwhile, if we're getting up to 6 as a group! Feb might be nuts, but definitely after that...

DC vs MOTU what the??

This may help to explain a little. (http://www.goodolddays.net/comics/index.pl?id=13) DC Comics did the original MOTU comics... I have a few and they are REALLY really good!!

One of the comics was a crossover with Superman (as seen in the link above). So this explains the 2 figures and the comic which is all included in the pack!

Sky Shadow

DC vs MOTU what the??

Well... Superman vs. He-Man is one of the earliest aspects of MOTU canon, predating the Filmation cartoon. (I used to have those old DC comics - or at least I owned the Aussie Federal Comics equivalents; http://www.ausreprints.com/content/main/?series=2087)

But it's going to get kind of weird if it continues with Skeletor versus Batman, Stratos versus Hawkman, Teela Versus Harley Quinn etc.

EDIT: Dammit - Robzy beat me to it again! :p

Ye gods! The Masters NY Toy Fair info is pretty great. She-Ra, Whiplash, Gygor, Keldor, Tytus, Count Marzo and a crazy new Weapons Pak. Oh, and Mo-Larr. And Lex Luthor versus Skeletor-with-a-yellow-sword.

Just when I was rethinking the benefits of my subscription, they took it to the next level. (I'm most looking forward to Whiplash with the classic head and spear - a perfect homage to my first humanoid MOTU toy.)

So, who is that Big Monkey? I'll be getting him since he is a big ass monkey, but would like to know his origin.

Most of the early MOTU animals were toys from the Big Jim toyline dressed up in armour (Zoar, Screeech, Battle Cat, Panthor). Nearly three decades ago now, Roger Sweet (the inventor of the toyline) also made a Gygor prototype - a yellow Big Jim monkey with a green face, black armour and accessories and a red cape. But Gygors never made it to production. Until now...

He's one of the Classics toys I'm most looking forward to.

Got battle cat today via the slow shipping. Was a nice early surprise for once. BC is a beautiful toy and I am 100% happy. A few leg joints are less than tight, but not loose, and his head can support it's own weight!

But how stupid are Digital River?
The toy was packed in a shipping box with massive amounts of space on 2 dimensions (the box was probably as big as MP-04) but was too small on the other dimension. Squashed the mailer box and the actual packaging. If I wanted this toy MIB I would cry... I didn't so it's happy times.

It's strange what is happening with this line.

I look at my shelf and see reissue He-Man and Battlecat and it looks so perfect. I look around and see the original 3 heroes (MAA, Teela and Stratos) and a good selection of bad guys... it's pretty much fiinshed.

Yeah Trap Jaw would have been nice to get, and I doubt Evil Lyn will be obtainable as a first issue... but there seems to be a hype that is beyond reason now.

I would happily miss Mossman, Optikk, She-Ra, Marzo, Keldor etc etc and just cannot understand why people are getting so worked up about these toys.

TheFallen
17th March 2010, 12:08 AM
Because this is the end of the line for MOTU. Once MOTUC is said and done it will be the end of the franchise, barring an animated series or movie to breath new life into it. But even then, I think this is the best it will ever be ever again for MOTU/PoP

Is it worth getting all riled up like some people do? No, because they are just toys, but people will always have the bad taste in their mouth from the 200x distribution debacle and Mattel can drop the ball at any time, moreso than they already have :)

d*r*j*

I understand your point to some extent.

But there is a movie in the works, as far as I know. Mattel has always claimed that once they have a movie ready, then they will bring a new line of MOTU back to retail in a more standard release. The comic 2 packs are just a taste of what is to come with this franchise.

I know that I'm in a fairly specific "nostalgia" element of the market for these toys. And I guess that explains my lack of enthusiasm for third tier MOTU and toys from other off shoots. It just amazed me that people were buying Mossman from ebay for $60-100 on ebay 6 hours after he had gone onsale.

I dunno, it took me a while to take to these toys in the first place, seemed like an aweful lot of hoops to jump through to get a toyline. I guess it would have been nice to have Mossman if it was a hassle free, normal purchase... But I keep looking at re-issue He-Man and BC and know that nothing can top that. So unless there is a more normal way to order things, I'm stepping back for a while.

Me too - plus Wun-Dar and a fairly lame and uninformative map of Eternia.

P.S. Moss Man is awesome - best MOTUC toy yet. And did anyone else get Mossy's Battle Bunny before it sold out?

That's Battle Bunny. 100% flocking, 0% articulation, just the way it should be. :p

(I got home the other day to discover that my wife had bought the bunny for me as a present. I have no idea what it's supposed to do, just that it's awesome and that Moss Man and Battle Bunny have been an inseparable duo ever since.)

Evil-Lyn is actually a really, really good figure. I thought she looked great anyway, but she's even better in person! I definitely prefer the wand over the staff, and the dagger is a bit meh. Laserbeak - er Screeeeech is awesome too!

PS: Love Battle Bunny! :p

Isn't this typical - I bid on 11 MOTU auctions, fairly cheaply because of BotCon registration soon, so was expecting a few to be lost.
10 were items I didn't have, and one was to replace a broken toy I have in my collection. I lost all but one - can you guess which one I won... :(

If I'm not gonna save anything on combined shipping, it would have been nice for it to at least be a toy I DON'T already have.

On a happy note, I did get in the mail today the DVD of the 2002 MOTU cartoon, and watched half a dozen episodes already. I like seeing all those toy characters being used early on (original series took 50 episodes before seeing more than the initial dozen), and more realistic violence (it's war after all). It's just a pity that it was axed after 39 episodes. If only Mattel had marketted the toys better (from what I read, they short-packed characters to such an extreme, kids and collectors were too frustrated to keep looking for any of the toys). Not to mention the body proportions on the toys being really weird, making them ugly toys IMO.

Big day today. Not only finding a whole new wave of TFs, but picked up these from the post office today as well...

http://www.toycollectors.com.au/motu2010a.jpg

From left, Snake Mountain, Fright Zone, Point Dread, Castle Grayskull, plus Original Skeletor and Webstor.

Most of it's complete, and there are a few broken bits. But considering the age and fragile nature of these toys, I'm really surprised these things were even designed for young kids.
The Fright Zone is a lot bigger than I was expecting, but a bit lame, and doesn't appear to be anything from the cartoon, so probably wasn't popular at the time. Actually, even Snake Mountain wasn't designed to look like the version on the cartoon, which is really odd (and not very clever). Then again, this was still in the early years of toyline-cartoon cross-selling, so accuracy probably wasn't yet necessary to sell the toys.

I got the Sorceress coming soon, and she now has a home (Grayskull) when she arrives.
That should keep me going, until after BotCon.

If anyone wants my broken Dragstor (free) let me know. If you live in Sydney(Aug), Melb(Apr), Adelaide(maybe) or Perth(oct/jan) I can bring it with me in the next 6-8 months (tentatively). Brisbane too of course.
Postage to be paid by you for anywhere else or if you want it straightaway.

The toy is complete with both accessories (the rip-cord has a bent, stress mark), and has the entire leg piece, so could probably be glued back together (the groin part that holds the leg is the actual broken bit - this isn't a MOTU toy with an internal rubber band).

Seriously, I'm so impressed with this line - just when I think a figure is gonna be 'Meh'... it's totally awesome for one reason or another. I absolutely love Optikk!

+1 about the quick "slow" postage!

And I agree - I'm happy about the new Mattel section here too... although there are still a few toy lines that aren't in this section (DCUC and the new Terminator 2 figures are also made by Mattel for example). But overall, it's cool!

With the ongoing MOTU collectables, I was hoping people getting them here would be more willing to post up news or reviews if they had their own section.
As for T2 - the existing topic has toys by 'Neca'. Is that a division of Mattel?
If there are new toys by Mattel, then they'd need to be in a new Mattel topic in here.

Unofficial MOTUC Throne of Bones and Viewing Table

Griffin had previously asked for this thread to feature pictures, reviews, etc. of MOTU so I thought I would take him up on it. This is my first ever review on anything so it is not going to be in great depth and detail as I don't want to bore everyone

I have been collecting the Masters of the Universe Classics line for about a year now. Since that time I have managed to acquire every figure released and I now have a 'so far' full collection of Loose and MOC figures.

For anyone who has been intrigued by the line they should really give it a shot. I cannot recommend them enough. That is if you can manage to purchase the figure in the very narrow 30 minute (or less) window that they are actually available for on the 16th (early morning our time) of every month from mattycollector.com

Instead of doing my first review on one of the figures, I have decided to review a couple of unofficial custom MOTUC accessories that I picked up on ebay a few months ago.

Viewing Table

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj221/TheFallenTonyStone/MOTUC/P1010484-1.jpg

This table is loosely based on the classic Filmation MOTU animated series. Considering it is a custom, it is really well done. The table has been made out of plastic is very light weight but it is still quite solid. The colours look fantastic and the paint application on the table itself has been done to give it a weathered look.

The dome has been painted with a red over black plastic. The paint application on this is somewhat streaky. I am not sure if that was just poor paint app of if it was done purposely to give the red dome a smoky look. If it was done on purpose it is a great addition.

Throne of Bones

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj221/TheFallenTonyStone/MOTUC/P1010485.jpg

This throne is also based on the classic Filmation series. It is also made out of the same plastic as the table and has the same weathered paint apps. The Throne of Bones is highly detailed and in my opinion looks way better than the Viewing Table. It looks mean and evil, especially with the horned skull which adorns the top of the throne. It also has a brown faux fur seat which really adds to the appeal.

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj221/TheFallenTonyStone/MOTUC/P1010486.jpg

The throne is selling for $28 and is way more value for money than the table which is selling for $35. I highly recommend the Throne of Bones if you have a Skeletor and want to display him a different way. But if you want the full effect of a Skeletor throne room then you also need to get the Viewing Table.

Both items are available from the same seller so postage can be combined. They are shipped with cardboard support so there is no damage to the pieces. The seller is thetoyshack (http://myworld.ebay.com.au/thetoyshack/)

http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj221/TheFallenTonyStone/MOTUC/P1010487.jpg

I hope I didn't bore you all too much. I will add more reviews of actual MOTUC product in the future (unless no one wants me to continue the reviews :) )

Was reasonably impressed with She-Ra... If I wasn't getting Faker I probably wouldn't have bothered, but she is quite iconic looking. Probably helps that mine had no real qc issues.

Faker had a loose right ankle... Lucky that my previous Faker came with 2 right feet! Now Partsman (name stolen from He-Man.org) has 2 right feet and one of them is floppy.

I gave it a half-hearted attempt, but in the end I didn't even bother. I like the 'vintage' head anyway, and unless I put it in hot water, I don't think it's coming off. Plus there's a huge scratch across her 'Filmation' hair from the way it was put in the plastic. For a 'collectors' toyline, the packaging is so badly designed - they damage the toys putting them in there and we have to try to avoid hurting them even more on the way out.

The inside packaging should be a whole lot better. Even She-Ra's sword handle (based on how she was holding it packed) is a little warped on mine.

I finally got She-Ra's filmation head on (which I personally prefer) by heating it up on the inside with a hair dryer. It worked perfectly and the peg slipped straight in with no fuss.

Castlevania, erm Grayskull! Merman (needed it for the weapons hehehe) Meckaneck and Man-at-arms ( he was my only Classics MOTU figure so to get this modern version is kinda nostalgic and heartwarming) :p, Two Bad and Whiplash, Classic Zoa I got ages ago. I have been looking at pics of MOTU Classics and although the line does have much more articulation, they are still stylized in a similar way as the original toys making several figures seem somewhat cartoony, specially Skeletor.

Despite the 'fixed' articulation of the 2002 line, I much prefer them due to the kick ass and more 'realistic' (for lack of better word) sculpts than several of the MOTUC figures. This particularly goes for Skeletor and several other bad guys.

An evil voice within is nagging me to get more MOTU toys! Maybe it was a bad idea to buy 'only' a couple :p

I still yet to find Evil Lyn and Teela, I found them before but geez they're expensive as... between Tf and MOTU I went the Tfs first, but now that Ive completed G1 I may save up for it... well its now between MOTU and DCU:o. Price wise though DCU is winning, them figures are awesome.. well to me prolly coz Im a DC boy.:D

I started only with the same figs that you got - Skeletor and Panthor (Mecha Bite), He-man and Battle Cat (samurai armour), then went on to collect the villains gallery. I always start with the villains anyhow even in TFs - I still have to migrate them along with Trap Jaw ( my fave), Triklops and Beastman here. I didnt manage to get many of em, coz by the time I jumped in the bandwagon for this particular series it was already ending:(, now Im playing catch-up.

This particularly goes for Skeletor and several other bad guys. It's funny, I think that most of the 200X designs have ridiculously over-sized proportions for the most part. Battle Fist's actual hand/fist, or Man-at-arms' shoulder armour for example. I really dislike pre-posed or "fixed articulation" (it's one of my main gripes with Neca's Terminator 2 and Ghostbusters lines), but the designs themselves are great!

That's not to say that I think MOTUC looks realistic. Far from it! I just prefer the comic/original toy designs, and to have super articulated versions is just a dream come true for me.

An evil voice within is nagging me to get more MOTU toys! Maybe it was a bad idea to buy 'only' a couple :pMOTU toys rock!! You have to buy them all!!! Do it now!!!! :D

Thats a great find. But how could it be 1983 with Thunderpunch He-Man and the Hord on it. They come much later 1985 I think.

Whiplash arrived today - very exciting, since he was one of my first humanoid MOTU toys. (I know I had Zoar and Panthor before Whiplash, but he may have been my first action figure.)

It also has the Slime Pit and Horde Trooper on it, which makes it at least from 1986.
