King Hiss is so much a Pretender :D:D

He is also static like one :)

He is pretty much the recreation of a rather lame gimmick that should have been left back in the 80s. I only got the figure because I like the King Hiss character.

As I understand it, the MOTUC figure of King Hiss manages the gimmick much better by redesigning it but I am not fond of how close the toy has been stylized to resemble the original.

I got Skeletor (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showpost.php?p=189120&postcount=489) from Sharky at the last Parra Fair.

Keldor and King Hiss I got from Ebay. Keldor is the German exclusive that came in a bag which is the same as the boxed TFCon exclusive. He varies between $130-$300 depends on who is selling it.

I got mine cheaper so I jumped at the chance even though it was the German 'bagged' version.

Thanks!

It's also amazing how much a simple head change can make a huge difference to the toy's overall look. The Exclusive with Keldor and Skeletor heads look considerably different, almost like different toys altogether.

Mekaneck is the only MOTU character that freaked me out as a kid (and even now :)). Too bad they never explained why he has a neck like that but to make it, they would of had to decapitate him first!

In the Filmation cartoon, Mekaneck's neck was injured in a storm and so Man-At-Arms (clearly a gifted brain surgeon) replaced it with a mechanical one.

Yeah I think I remember that episode but it still doesn't explain how it was done. Man-At-Arms not only must have been a gifted neural surgeon but also a great cardiologist and chiropractor too!

I love the 200X line. So much wasted potential.

Yeah that line was an awesome modernization of the 80s toy line and the cartoon got cancelled just as it was reaching new heights in it's lore.

I personally prefer the 200X line more than the new MOTU Classics like as I have never been to fond of the original toy stylization, even as a kid. However I do plan to get a few of the MOTUC characters such as King Grayskull which looks awesome.

Today I received Version 1.0 of MOTU 200x Castle Grayskull mainly due to curiosity on the Action Chip gimmick.

I decided to put both Castle Grayskulls back to back (2.0 front, 1.0 back) and the result is very impressive!

The pics just don't do it justice as when I stepped back after assembling it, I was blown away and continue to amazed every time I walk back in the room.

The Castle looks solid and complete on all walls!

http://kupscigar.com/MOTU/fullgrayskull4.JPG

http://kupscigar.com/MOTU/fullgrayskull5.JPG

As you can see, the sides fit together very naturally as both pieces are supposed to join together when closing the single castle to form the back. Now they are forming the sides and it looks almost as if this is the way the castle should be displayed.

Also due to the differences between v1.0 and v2.0 of the Castles and some freedom to re-arrange parts, the inner sides are not exactly alike and can pass as different sections of the castle rather than mirrors.

Mine's great and pretty cool - joints are good; the cogs all work; weapons clip on and off nicely. Everyone's complaining about the shoulders being backwards, but it doesn't really make a difference. I had to boil a few pieces back into shape, but that's par for the course by now and no trouble. If I had to make a complaint it would be that it's so faithful that it doesn't really feel like I have a new toy, just a slightly more poseable vintage one. :)

That's how I feel about the MOTUC line in general. However the line is releasing characters that never had updated toys or no toys at all. I am liking that a lot just frustrated that they are not in scale with 200x figures, specially the human characters.

My name is kup and I am a motuholic...

Yeah I am feeling a bit guilty because I have spend so much on toys in a short amount of time but I couldn't pass this up!

A local guy at He-Man.org offered this bunch at $26ea and I knew that I couldn't say no :( I picked them up today during lunch time. He had several others for sale but I held back as I was already feeling guilty from Sunday.

Anyway my next money cycle is coming along and although It will still allow for a bit of toy funds (I have another bargain lined up), I should take it easy.

I have several figures lined up too and I can't wait!

I also have a General Rattlor due anytime so I am hyped on that one as I think Snakemen are awesome!

I just need a Squeezzee and Kobra Khan and I finish my Snakemen army.

I have been debating if I should get the coming MOTUC King Hiss (or Hsss if they are calling him that). I have doubts because they have made him so vintage toy accurate that he looks more like a grunt than a King. I really hope that they include an extra 200x head for him, that would be an install buy for me.

Tallestblue
25th November 2010, 03:35 PM
I love 200X General Rattlor! King Hsss is visually impressive but kind of annoying as the action feature compromises Articulation, But The General has great articulation and a great action feature. He and Cobra Khan have moving mouths that really add to the awesomeness of the figures while still being great tributes to the vintage toys.

And still no love on the MOTUC front at my house. Don't UPS know She-Ra is lonely and misses her brother!? Don't they!?

EDIT!! The toy gods must have heard my plea as my MOTUC toys were waiting for me when I got home from bill paying and grocery shopping.

I was prepared for the worst reading QC issues on He-Man.org but aside from a few paint spots they're perfect, Teela's heads swap out with no trouble at all.

These are great toys! All the colour and fun of the originals but with amazing sculpting and articulation. I'm giddy with nostalgia. Or possibly plastic fumes.

Yay!

Since the package was just a plain standard brown box with a 'From New Zealand' sticker on it, I was confused by what it was since I had not ordered anything from there. I kinda suspected it was from Matty but until I opened it I had doubts as I assumed the packaging to be a Mattel box or something like that.

I had a look at the King Grayskulls - One of them has a bit of bad QC on his hair (white 'melted' spots which I assume to be from the shoulder flocking) and bad paint apps on his fist fingers - These are minor as it doesn't look too critical but still annoying. The other seems to be much better but has a bit of a tiny freckle on his face which I hope I can wipe off.

Sorry to hear that Robzy :( I must say that is one of my pet peeves with the line, even when they aren't extremely loose, they're still tricky to balance.

I don't know what's different about making action figures as opposed to Transformers, but i can't help but think a better solution would be a solid ball joint... i guess they don't want to impair the aesthetics though.

I would probably say that my 2 KG's have some of the best ankle joints in the line so far. Kind of a rubbery firmness to them. I was very impressed when I took them out of the package.

It's funny... people have been complaining for about a year now about figures with loose ankles and bobble heads - and I haven't experienced any of these problems! KG is the first figure I have bought from the entire line that has any "issues" at all. Having said that, it's not quite as bad as I first thought. He seems to be standing alright now.

As far as loose ankles and bobble heads are concerned, I haven't experienced any of that, not even with the rejects I got from the Chinese guy and one has a twisted ankle. Yeah they do tip over if you don't balance them right but that can also be due to the design of the joint. It's a small articulated hinge that is carrying the whole weight of the figure.

However in the event that I do get a loose ankle, it seems fairly straight forward to fix if you are careful.

Nice! Is that Skeletor any different or just the regular release?

Same overall color scheme as the regular version but with much lighter colors and the face is more like the green and yellow of MOTUC Skeletor. Some parts also feel more rubbery like his cowl. He doesn't come with the swords.

Overall it is my least favorite of the 'non-armor' 200x Skeletors but it is still pretty decent. The best one by far is still Keldor (with the Skeletor head).

The Battle Chariot is surprisingly impressive and the gimmick works very well but I need to fix up those bright oranges with a bit of a wash. I understand that it's representing fiery parts but it's too 'Hasbro orange' bright. The awesome bit is that the Chariot is so large that I can easily see MOTUC Skeletor naturally fitting in with it.

It happens across a few pages in the Trap Jaw Icons of Evil Comic.
Skeletor blasts Kronis in the Face, Rips his arm and Jaw off. This was all written by Robert Kirkman of Invincible/Walking Dead fame.

I'm not sure the rules on posting links to downloads CBRs so I'll just say google it.

I have noticed that overall, online information on MOTU is considerably less developed than Transformers. The He-man.org Encyclopedia is very 80s centric with most other eras incomplete or as placeholders. The Grayskull wiki (http://he-man.wikia.com/wiki/He-Man_Wiki)is much better but is still lacking in information.

The thing about the 2000 series is that overall, all the characters are very similar if not identical in concept to their 80s counterparts with some exceptions such as the Snake Men and The Horde. Of course the series is modernized so much of the 80s cheese is is removed (not all ;) ) but the spirit of the original is still there and the series actually develops characters that were never touched upon or neglected in the 80s cartoon.

Cheers dude, any info is good really because, whilst I watched the cartoon as a kid, it never really grabbed me like Transformers did - that being said though I always considered the figures to be cool and Skeletor (both toon and figure) has permanently cemented the coolness of Skeletons, Skeletal characters and all manner of entities from the Darker-side of things within me forever more! :D
(He's probably partly responsible for my infatuation with Bludgeon too! :p)

Well I'm glad to hear that because I remember when my youngest Brother received a 200X Skeletor figure and I thought - Man that is one kickass re-imagining but I was never able to find the cartoon series to watch (Middle of High School :o), so I'm glad that it stays true to the original whilst exploring new areas.

If Transformers wasn't such a priority, I'd consider starting a Skeletor collection :p, maybe even Hordak. :D

Cyber Monday figures arrived!

hmmm..I was a bit skeptical to the talk that Matty was re-selling returned figures as new but after I received my Skeletor, that seems to be the case.

My Skeletor mailer box looks worn, it's double taped and the 'tissue paper' is ripped and crunched up not folded like it is normally, suggesting that this figure has been opened and then roughly placed back in the mailer box. Skeletor within has horrendous paint apps so this is likely the reason why it was returned to begin with.

How hard is it to get replacements from Australia? Is it at all feasible? If it's too hard then I will have to live with my reject Skeletor and maybe try to fix him up myself

I am pissed off at this and feel as if Matty is trying to rip me off by passing off returned toys as new! I would expect something like that from a dodgy Ebay seller not the biggest toy company in the world!

At least He-Man and Battle Cat look to be new even if He-Man's hair is too high up and Battle Cat's box sticky tape looks to have been applied by an uncoordinated monkey.

Yeah the distance makes it look really good in the photo. I wish the yellow looked like that in IRL.

I have sent an email to Matty asking for a replacement head but I doubt anything will come of that.

The ugly paint job is kind of growing on me but it is still technically botched up. I have tried to take photos of it but for some bizarre reason, it comes out very good in pics!

VIKOR!

"Know, O Prince Adam, that between the years when the oceans drank Anwat Gar and the gleaming cities, and the rise of the sons of Greyskull, there was an age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars. From the North came Vikor, a reaver, a slayer, to tread the jeweled thrones of Preternia beneath his sandaled feet."

I have to admit, Bow is a lot better than I expected. Filmation head all the way for me. PD He-Man is actually pretty cool but only because of the Cosmic Key and Bionotops Gun. Shadow Beast is also good and I think the sculpt works better for this than it did for Gygor.

I also got pretty lucky on ebay for some mini comics I was after;

Tale of Teela
Ultimate Battleground
Enter Buzz Saw Hordak
Escape From the Slime Pit
The Hordes of Hordak
The Warrior Machine
Leech - The Master of Power Suction Unleashed
The Menace Modulok
Grizzlor - The legend comes alive
Hordak - The Ruthless Leaders Revenge
Mantenna and the Menace of the Evil Horde

All for $100

That makes sense then. I just got word that a package for me arrived from Germany. I wasn't sure what that was because I had not ordered anything from Germany.

So if these toys are made in Asia and are now shipping from Europe, then that means that it's going further up North later to go all the way south again - That is a really crap way of doing it, I am sure Matty is loosing money on this. I hope they don't increase the shipping costs to compensate for their ridiculous shipping routes.

Kup, one of the reasons why the shipping is indirect is because they're keeping our international shipping dirt cheap. They don't ship the toys one-by-one from Asia, they ship them in massive crates and then send them individually from Europe, New Zealand, etc. You know how US shipping is always expensive and yet places like Bookdepository.co.uk and CDwow can afford free shipping by using weird tax-dodgy shipping from bizarre places in Europe and all over the world? Matty is doing the same thing and we benefit by not paying stupid US shipping prices on Mattycollector.com.

http://kupscigar.com/2011/MOTU/060511-1.JPG

Did anyone else receive last month's Matty figures like this? I was shocked when the mail lady brought this out.

Inside that big sack there was just a regular sized box with the MOTUC figures:

http://kupscigar.com/2011/MOTU/060511-2.JPG

Moss Man - The 'cream of the crop' as this is the figure I was mostly excited about. When I opened his white box, I was already able to smell him. I also noted that the card bubble doesn't have any air holes like the other figures, possibly to keep the smell in as it's pretty strong. He is an awesome figure but I expected him to have a Pine or minty type scent, instead he smells like Toilet Duck, at least to me :o

Sy-Klone - I bought this guy on a whim as he is a little too vintage for me but in person he actually looks pretty cool.

Panthor - He looks pretty cool despite the lack of flocking. I look forward to opening him.

I agree Kup, Mossman does smell like most "pine" scented toilet goods.

It makes me curious about how mossman smelt in the original line. And did the 200x line smell?

All re-releases have the "The Original!" Burst on them so collectors can differentiate between the first version of the toy and that way scalpers can't palm of the Reissues as the rarer and more expensive "first printing".

Can anyone tell me why Moss Man has 'The original' on his box, when he is a re-release please?

It's a reference to the vintage line, where He-Man and Skeletor were reissued in 1984 at the same time as Battle Armour He-Man and Skeletor were released. "The Original" He-Man and Skeletor reissues had that logo. So it's now (ironically) MOTU code for "not actually the original release." :)

Toyguru could change the cards to say "He's Back", but that would involve heavy retooling and use up a monthly development slot, which would mean we will never get The Sorceress and he would then also have to drown a litter of kittens. But seriously, that seems to be a very minor change and I don't see why it can't be done if there is enough of a fan call for it, but from what I gather this Guru bloke is a bit of a prat.

Sorry, Toyguru can't comment on his prattishness beyond Leech and Hurricane Hordak at this time.

I'm being sent a replacement Sy-Klone. It showed up in my e-mail as a "Your Order is confirmed" message, was a nice surprise.

As Sky Shadow mentioned, to change that you need a development slot - ToyGuru cannot mention any more details beyond this point..for logistical reasons ;). Matty needs every development slot otherwise they won't be able to put goofy a$$ inert dials on the back of figures and for TG to think up more crappy personal fanfic bios.

It is logistically impossible to do what fans want even if 80% of the main fan board says they should...logistical reasons ;)

Just because I'm not finished with paying out Toy Guru, I just stumbled upon a post of his eating humble pie over his failure to fix reissue Stratos's wings:

"I'm a bit embarassed on this one. Uusually I catch this stuff."*

Other than the fact that he hasn't 'caught' the fact that he misspelled both 'embarrassed' and 'usually', this was not long before he failed to catch Roboto's shoulders and then King Kiss's shoulders. I wonder how much stuff is wrong that he does catch.

*http://www.he-man.org/forums/boards/showthread.php?p=2386952#post2386952 (Amusingly he posted this just one day after claiming "exactly" nothing was wrong with Stratos and that he hoped the mere fact of his saying so would put "this issue to rest.")

Makes you wonder what it is exactly, that he is supposed to be a 'Guru' of...:p

Lol - great post Sky Shadow :D

Seriously I am so annoyed at this! You know what - I personally asked TG this very question on the forums nearly 2 years ago! He responded by saying that there was no "problem" with Stratos' wings that needed fixing! But there was - they were glued in the wrong spot...

Then when the DCUC/MOTUC (Stratos Vs Hawkman) set came out there was a video of him talking with Pixel Dan admitting that they screwed up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4i50xgnwR8) on the whole wings in the wrong spot issue (last year) and that fans should be happy because the new (different coloured) 2-pack didn't have this problem. You can hear it for yourself in that video at 4:52 when he states, "And the wings will be, you'll be able to rotate them around the wrist. They won't be glued in place. We fixed that! That was, like, an early mistake and sometimes mistakes happen but we fixed that!"

When he was asked last year (when the first re-issue took place in March 2010) he said he was unaware of any wing issue!:rolleyes: WTF???

I swear this guy is just making it up as he goes along! And now this???!!! Now, he admits he should have caught it? The guy knew about it when Stratos was first released (in 2009)!!!:mad:

And as for him claiming (earlier this week) that there was "exactly" no error - he posted this (http://forums.mattycollector.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2131094575/m/6611069376) in Jan this year and this (http://www.he-man.org/forums/boards/showpost.php?p=2634736&postcount=55) is Feb this year. Again, he's making it up as he goes along! Either that or he's an idiot! Or both! 2 years of people complaining and he acts like it's news out of left field!

What a tosser! And a liar!

What's worst of all is that he said "I was so busy at the time fixing Strato's misscolored belt that the incorrect wings went past my careful eye... We'll get it next time as I'm sure Stratos will be back in time."

And we were up to 'next time' this month and - what do you know - the wings were glued in place again. He is a liar - I suspect the only reason he said they'd fix Stratos is because he never really thought the winged warrior would be released again.

I'm so glad I boiled Toy Guru's head and threw it in the trash.
