I've seen a few of those around. The Optimus Prime figure looks bent out of shape on all the ones I've seen.

I wouldn't bother if I were you. Monstructor is a pretty underwhelming gestalt. :p If you happen to find them at a market or fair or something, then sure... but I wouldn't say actively scour eBay for them. d: JMO

Supposedly the Takara Version it appears to be the Hasbro one instead...
Oh well, $36 shipped is still good for the Hasbro version

Nice figure. He looks menacing and tough.
Only gripe is the huge back bit behind the manta ray wings. Neat thing is that the rest of the tail folds down and acts as a support. It is a shame he needs it, but handy they put that in.

Depthcharge is a freaking awesome figure. Its 13 years old now but most (if not all) modern toys in his size class are yet to even come close to his level of quality and design despite the huge back bit.

Rampage also rocks:

Yeah I kind of agree with that.
The wings do really increase his size.

I really want to go on an importing spree but with the dollar in such a terrible state I have to fight off the urge and only take small bites. :( Anywho received my MP Thundercracker and Prime/Magnus upgrade package in the mail today. Luckily with TC everything seems to be in good condition, apart from two or three paint hiccups that are so minor it doesn't matter to me at all, but I can't check to see if he has two of the same face until I transform him.

Received another G1 Superion on Monday.

Seller was abit dodgy...

1. forgotten to mail the 4 little guns off to me
2. originally requested $13 for registered postage. on invoicing, charged me $15 saying to cover cost of registered postage. the actual postage turned out to be only $8.15++ (++ is for bubble-wraps and a shoebox)

The guns are said to be sent off to me yesterday....

I pretty much agree, when I 'won' it on ebay it was very, very hot, I had some music playing crazy loud and had immediate buyers remorse. I think that I'm okay with it now (got all 3 for less than $100 delivered) but I have contemplated re-selling SkyLynx more than once since the auction.

And Optimus Prime is a truck with a head and limbs. :p Perhaps you could play with someone else's Sky Lynx (at a fan meet perhaps if someone would be kind enough to bring theirs along) to help you better decide? If you ever come to a Sydney meet I'll bring mine. :)

That's not Cliffjumper. That's a Crossover figure of Jay Leno. It does look a tad ridiculous, but his appearance in the cartoon was just as chinny.

Anyhoo a little bit of spoilage for having some days off the past few days:

Samurai Prowl from Minotaur thanks to my impatience and love of Animated.
Wolverine & Human Torch from jaydisc. (Thanks a million jay!)

All 3 figures are superb. That sidecar is awesomely engineered. The Marvel Crossover range have really impressed me so far (conversion-wise) and these new figures have not dissapointed me yet.

Technically a January one, but since I purchased it at tail end days of last month , it took a while for it to come. BUt, finally after years of collecting I gave in and purchased Galvatron (anime colors). Very Nice, the Matrix Necklace is quite as heavy as a C type Battery - solid diecast. Something I never noticed when I looked at Gok's before. Really nice :D All the way from Singapore.

Highbrow Arrived!

A big thanks to KelvinChang99 and Omega_Supreme.

http://www.geocities.com/wow_frostwolf/loot/050209.jpg

This completes my 87 Headmaster collection! The both awesome and scary thing is that I have realized that I am not that far away from completing US G1. I have 1984-1987 virtually complete minus 1-2 figures for each year and around two thirds each of 88, 89 and 90 (actually 88 is almost complete too, just a few left to go).

The only 'heavy hitter' (as in seriously expensive) figure left for me to collect is Monstructor but I will leave him till last and the figures I have left to collect are not overly expensive.

yeah, mine too and so much surprised that it's on clearance moreover.
i do hope blackie have a good one as i can't check the headlights but everything else should be there.

went shopping at TRU today and found the Battle Damage Prime voyager and cold not resist. Had also planned to buy the kite for my wedding photo shoot for a long time now but there doesn't seem to have any sale on these for almost 6 months now so gave up and bought it.

afaik there were no noteable QC issues with Target's MP Magnus, which was imports of the original MP Magnus by Takara. The reported QC issues have been with the re-release MP Magnus from TakaraTOMY.

If your MP Magnus box has a Takara logo on it, then being free of defect would be pretty normal. But if it has a TOMY logo on it, then yeah, it seems that you were luckier than others whose TOMY MP Magni had problems. Perhaps it shows that TakaraTOMY receive complaints and fixed them up in a later production run?

Kind of on this topic:

We are not all experts on here. I get a bit disheartened when people make a big deal about small mistakes in names, generations or other little anomalies. Makes coming on here less enjoyable.

Correcting people is fine but lets just remember there are people at all collecting levels on here. I appreciate the advice and knowledge that members bring to this board greatly but making a big fuss over small mistakes is silly and not necessary.

If the board feels it necessary to move this post else where, thats ok with me.

All in all - an expensive exercise, but I've learnt a lot from his custom and I'm trying to think of different ways I can make the figs combine AND retain some articulation... :D

Strangely - some bits aren't painted like they're supposed to be... and I got a Fracture! XD Lol~ the bits that would make the toy look more jagura aren't painted (chest) :b O well - :D

Prowl has been freed, but Streak is going to stay put for now.

The drawings on the Henkei 2.0 packaging are fantastic. Much better than the photos they used for 1.0. I just wish they put them on the side and still wish the packaging wasn't so freaking loud.

These arrived on Friday. Took a few days to get through unpacking them, and transforming all but Shockwave (so far).

http://www.otca.com.au/0902a.jpg

25th Dinobot - worst toy so far in the 25th line. Just like Cheetor, this toy is a step backwards from the original, instead of being an improvement (as this anniversary line is supposed to be). Both modes don't resemble Dinbot from the Cartoon. The missile launcher only held the missile once, and now it is too sensitive to hold it. One to avoid if you aren't collecting all of the 25th or Henkei line.

25th Smokescreen - 3 version of this mould, as per the original Gen1 trio of toys/characters. The colours look really nice on this one, and I don't even notice the lack of modifications this toy should have gotten to reflect the original Smokescreen (racing trims).

Legends Beachcomber, Brawn, Bumblebee, Animated Starscream - Already had a Starscream, and Bumblebee is very similar to the transformation of the Animated toy. Brawn is oddly packaged with the arms pointing up by mistake (all are like this, not just mine). Beachcomber's white should have been grey like the original. It doesn't look right in white. And why does it come with a gun? He's a pacifist, and didn't have a gun with the Gen1 toy. What bugs me more though is that the gun comes off (easily, as if it is meant to for a reason), but the robot mode has no holes in the fists or arms to plug it in (hold it). Why have a removeable weapon, if it can't hold it?

Animated Swindle - I like this toy. The vehicle mode is deceptively big for a small stocky robot mode. You'd almost think from the robot mode that it wasn't a 'value' toy, but compared to Lockdown (at 113gms), Swindle weighs in at 116gms.

Animated Blazing Lockdown - some different colours and a new hat, I mean, new weapon... meh. It's the third version of this mould, so I'm not too excited about this one. I do think it is one of the more playable ones, in terms of easy transformation, without sacrificing either mode's functionality or having kibble.

Animated Skywarp and Sunstorm - both redecos of the Starscream toy that I already have, and since Sunstorm was packaged in robot mode, it may be one of those toys that I'll never end up transforming, unless I need to (at a meet or for storage). Colours of both figures aren't too bad. Pity the Bios don't match the cartoon clones.

Animated Shockwave (redeco, unnofficially labelled as a Gen1 colour scheme) - haven't transformed it yet, mostly because I'm not that impressed by its 4 modes not requiring much conversion between each mode. Even if it was just a regular 2-mode figure, it still looks like a pretty simple transformation, along the lines of Armada Megatron (lie it face-down and it's a tank...).

Oops, forgot Henkei Cyclonus - Very nice. A must have figure, no matter which version you can get your hands on. I want both 25th and Henkei for show and toy 'accurate' homages, and since Robotkingdom were always selling out of the Hasbro one all the time, I just go this one so far. The photo above doesn't have the wings folded back, but you can still see how great it looks. The jet mode isn't as cartoon accurate as the original Cyclonus toy, but the way everything is engineered to fit together perfectly in jet mode, it's an amazing toy, and fun to play with. This toy will definitely be one of my favourites for 2009.

Since none of the Hasbro figures have yet been released at retail in AUS, I'll bring a few to the Sydney meet on Sunday - Skywarp, Sunstorm, Dinobot, Smokescreen, and maybe Shockwave and Swindle (if no one else will be bringing any of these on Sunday).

Funny thing... That one box from Robotkingdom last week had more toys in it than my entire January haul.

For those wondering - the Activators Ratchet and Bumblebee will be up for grabs (cheaply) if anyone wants them. They don't have any obvious differences to the single packed ones (unlike the 4 Animated Legends toys), so I don't want them.
I gotta put together a list of my current spares, and post it before Sunday, in case anyone wants anything at the meet.

Eewww... I wasn't really intending to get these figures anyway, but that's good to know. Sounds like if anyone wants these characters they're better off getting the originals. (-_-)

Brawn is oddly packaged with the arms pointing up by mistake (all are like this, not just mine).
"It's a trap!" :D

Beachcomber's white should have been grey like the original. It doesn't look right in white.
Yeah... he looks more like Mirage in those colours. Seriously... from a distance you could confuse him with Robot Masters Mirage. (-_-)

And why does it come with a gun? He's a pacifist, and didn't have a gun with the Gen1 toy.
1. Although he's a pacifist he's still an Autobot warrior. He's still required to fight, although he may strongly dislike it - as do Bluestreak and Groove.
2. None of the G1 Autobot minicars came with guns!! :) Universe Powerglide comes with a gun even though the original toy didn't have one.

What bugs me more though is that the gun comes off (easily, as if it is meant to for a reason), but the robot mode has no holes in the fists or arms to plug it in (hold it). Why have a removeable weapon, if it can't hold it?
Yeah okay, that is stupid. (;-_-)

Animated Swindle - I like this toy. The vehicle mode is deceptively big for a small stocky robot mode. You'd almost think from the robot mode that it wasn't a 'value' toy, but compared to Lockdown (at 113gms), Swindle weighs in at 116gms.
Does yours have the problem of the belly panel being loose/floppy?

Animated Blazing Lockdown - some different colours and a new hat, I mean, new weapon... meh.
Lawl!

I'm not interested in any of the clones unless I can get them as Activators. The Voyager Starscream mould doesn't excite me enough to want to get repaints. (-_-)

I thought of Outback as well, which had me think that Hasbro might recolour 25th Beachcomber into Outback (the Brawn mould looks to 'Brawny' to work as Outback), and the 'gun in vehicle mode' would work reinforce the Outback look of a redecoed Beachcomber. And not being able to hold the weapon in robot mode would be almost a tribute to the original toy...

I purchased a Cybertron Galaxy Force Vector Prime- This figure has been sitting at my local toyworld for ages now but due to my strick G1/ Universe standards ive denied myself the item- until now.

Hes pretty cool looking and his vehicle mode seems to suit his character. Im very fond of his robot mode also (He was also cheap too).

How long has it been since stores have been stocking Cybertron figures? Another local toystore has a half dozen deluxe figures of the same breed on the shelves and i think they have been put there recently.

Oh and Sofaman if you are reading this it is highly possible that i might buy some Beast Wars figures now in my current weakened state (Been watching some episodes)- Oh dear this is going to get expensive...

I also forgot to mention in the January aquisitions that i recieved a movie Blackout. Thanks to whom i recived him from (Ive forgotten who it was-sorry).

Resculpt the chest and head and the Brawn mold would do all right. I'll just be happy to get a Universe/Classics Outback at all before the Bayverse dominates everything marketing-wise all over again.

On a more topic-relevant note, got sick of waiting for new Deluxes today and so picked up a Sentinel Prime - wasn't expecting much but I'm pleasantly surprised at how much fun he is.

Swa-heeeeeet! How come the new Hot Shot comes in a box instead of the usual Henkei packaging? You going to be reviewing Waspinator mate?

I also ordered Henkei Cyclonus (last night) so I should be getting mine soon too. :D Cost double the price of the local release but what are ya gonna do - that's the price of lavender over eggplant these days.

That Hot Shot is not the new Universe one, it's the original Armada version. I wanted it for a while now and also as a companion piece to the upcoming Universe remake. Not a bad figure that's full of gimmicks. Robot mode is ok and the red LED on the hand blinded me, since I didn't know it had that gimmick and I accidentally pushed the trigger and was directed right over my eye.

Indeed, I will review Waspinator. Good figure but with little play value unfortunately.

Henkei Cyclonus is indeed pricey. Did you order just the figure by itself? The shipping will kill you. I think both Universe and Henkei are pretty equal, but the purple chrome wings and the chrome on Nightstick edges out Universe a little. The purple is a little too light for my liking on the Henkei version.

looks like all the BW Universe figures are rather disappointing

They were actually. The backpack on Cheetor's bot mode prevented a lot of poses. Dinobot's panels for the tail didn't close up properly and as with griffin's figure, mine too had the missile problem of being ultra sensetive after one use. I think it's the way the handle was done for the tail as a weapon. It interferes with the launching mechanism. The actual handle was a claw that just hugged the top and bottom of the figures hand that looked about 3mm too small, that you have to force fit and in turn, I believe, what affects the launching mechanism.

Otherwise I don't really mind the two BW Universe figures. But the arm kibble in Dinobot's alt mode, I know it's probably a tribute to the original toy but I expect better engineering than that these days. Cheetor was ruined by the mouth/eye gimmick which made the need for the huge backpack kibble in bot mode. Certainly not the Universe figure for everyone.

Cheetor isn't as bad as I thought he would be (I got Henkei) but he is still more 'Beast Machines' in design engineering than Beast Wars and suffers too much from the eye gimmick as mentioned by Stompy. I personally prefer the elegance of the original BW design engineering even if the new one gains some Beast mode articulation.

What they should have done is transplanted the original BW engineering into a new mold which is more streamlined to look like a Cheetah, throw out the eye gimmick and add articulation to the front legs in Beast mode. Then you would have a good Cheetor that would look more like a Cheetah and his cartoon character model instead of a BW/BM hybrid.

I strongly disagree that Universe Dinobot is a disappointing figure. Yes, he should have had the same colours as the 10th anniv. BW toy but colour differences aside, the mold itself is far more show accurate and detailed than the original toy, so much so that it makes the original look like a superdeformed tribute of the character. Don't like the shoulder pads with the dino arms hanging off in robot mode? Rotate them back and fold the arms out of sight. Don't like the robot fists? Rotate them around and you've got the show accurate claws. I found him to be a real breath of fresh air in the Universe line and think he's a must buy. Disappointing my foot! :p

Good to see those of you I caught at the Parramatta fair today. My haul consisted of six Transformers. Two Classics two-packs (Magnus and Skywarp/Jetfire and Grimlock – yes, I couldn’t resist the pop-up packaging!), also Universe Ironhide and Voyager Movie Prime (thanks to Gamblor for the latter two. Thanks particularly for the instructions to Rubik’s Cube Ironhide. :))

I was chatting to the guy I bought the two-packs from – before the fair started he bought a Predaking reissue for $170, which I know some of you could theoretically be jealous of, but I think the Predaking toys were loose in box – I presume it was complete, but can't be sure. Sadly, he also showed me the "boxed Swoop" he bought for $90 – I didn’t have the heart to tell him that I had concerns about the authenticity of his Swoop. I can’t believe people sell bootlegs as originals – it makes me mad.)

Did you get the idea to turn Energon Insecticon into Bombshell after I just happened to mention it the other day?

And why do you get Megatron cut out? I want it, I want it now

Geez, Daffodil, already trying to score the credit. Some people. Nah, I've been looking for one for awhile for cheap but couldn't pass this lot as a whole. The seller had some other Jap items but hopefully they'll be still available in a week or two.

Why? Cos I'm total almighty awesomeness and you're a peasant, that's why.

Nice acquisitions mel. The henkei's cheap in Singapore?

Yeah definitely. You can find Henkeis and Takara TFs on the shelves in normal retail. It's so good to shop for TFs there, huge abundance as mentioned in some of the other threads.

The boyfriend got those Henkeis' from a specialty toy shop.

Hound and Cyclonous were S$32 each. The others were S$28 each. Henkei Deluxes at normal retail are S$29.95 and MP Thundercracker is S$135. Based on current exchange rate. SGD and AUD are almost on par if not different by just 2-3 cents.

In short, Hasbro stuff like Animated and Universe, there's no difference if not more expensive when bought in Singapore. But Takara stuff is certainly much cheaper as you can find them at normal retail.

Wonderful acquisition roller! thats putting your mind.. and your pocket into it.:D You gonna open these? or will they remain in their prisons? If so be careful of the waist plate ( connector for Longhaul, Scrapper and Mixmaster) it's not as strong as the G1 plastic.

Very happy this morning when the always friendly delivery man knocked on my door. :) Big thanks to my favourite Ozformers Jay and Bossbot!

From Griffin: Pinkimus Prime (US Version) and from Jaydisc: Animated Voyager Prime from his US trip.

Well, many of us already knew the US version of Pinkimus comes with an extra DVD. But what's special about Animated Prime?

One can argue that Prime is THE Autobot so he doesn't really need the insignia... but I reckon the insignia "completes" the toy for me. :p

Really like the nice placement of the comic on the US packaging (right under the flap). :) Animated Prime on the other hand, looks great with the insignia in bot mode. Very nice. ;)
