Name: FUSION
Faction: Decepticon
Sub-type: Triple-Changer
Function: Demolitionist

"Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide."

PROFILE
A one-robot wrecking ball dragooned from the fight pits of Polyhex, Fusion is a mechanoid of few words but many ambitions - chief among which is the desire to survive the war. Concealing his checkered past behind a mask of unremarkable performance, he has manouvered himself out of the battle line and into a heavy demolition team, reasoning that buildings are less likely to shoot back. Constantly plots to try and return to his moderately successful civilian grey-market business interests, but deep-seated fear of military Decepticons in general and Shockwave in particular have left him overcautious about deserting.

Fusion exhibits moderate repair skill with weaponry of many kinds, and affects a number of false personality traits, such as collecting, scavenging, and attaching all kinds of weaponry to himself, and being more effective with area-effect attacks than precision fire. His two-tone color scheme is designed to make him blend in with Cybertron's surface from above, and the night sky from below.

He rarely speaks, preferring gestures and flickers of his featureless faceplate, and lives in permanent low-grade terror that Shockwave will find out who was responsible for destroying a certain Decepticon outpost.

ABILITIES
Festooned with weaponry of dubious origin and reliability, Fusion is a capable demolitionist and hand-to-hand fighter. Urban tank mode manouvers on low-power gravimetrics, uses dual triple-barrel plasma turrets, twin fireball projectors, demolition missiles, ramming wedge. Interceptor mode flies at Mach 0.7. As robot, wields dual plasma autopistols, which are stored in his shoulder pauldrons and can be fired from there in all modes. Demolition-charge missiles can be fired from any of the twelve ports in his main launcher, either singly or in a devastating umbrella of destruction. In tank mode, has a triple microlauncher under his front hull from his pit fighter days; usually keeps it stocked with two small smoke grenades and an energon scalpel. Most of his weapons have a 360-degree field of fire.

WEAKNESSES
Overcautious and slow-moving. Substandard tracking circuits make him more effective against single opponents than multiple tarkets. Eschews tank mode, claiming minimal ground clearance results in damage by large potholes, but really to avoid ground assaults against Autobots. Fireball projectors are prone to napalm leaks. Weaponry is often poorly integrated - deploying one system may interfere with another's field of fire or range of movement, either partially or completely. Plasma turret actuators are vulnerable when the weapons are extended for firing. Avoids precision weaponry, even when it would be to his advantage. Missile battery has minimal elevation capacity, and the total area bombardment mode empties half his magazine with each use. Microlauncher is not available in interceptor mode and accessing its contents in robot mode requires unlocking his chestplate. Pops his fireball launchers in and out as a nervous habit, making a loud clacking noise.

That's a nice interesting character! Looks like someone could build a toy of that from Lego. ;)

Yeah that's pretty cool and as Gok mentioned, it looks doable to custom build it as a toy too.

Fusion: Superior!

Drift: Inferior!

:p

God don't mention that. My mind just went into design mode. It was pointing out all the pieces I could possibly use and all the interesting way I could build it...

A very full expaned profile there, but do you think that there's maybe too many weaknessess? It's better than a super-powerful fan character with "No known weaknesses" but maybe too far in the other direction?

Yes... much better and more original than yet-another-Munchkin character. :)

I think it has a fairly even spread of strengths and weaknesses. It's not uselessly weak like Wheelie, Jar Jar Binks or Nute Gunray. ;)

It should be buildable, all my designs tend in that direction. I try not to have parts change size or shape, or move in ways that would require four-dimensional joints. I'll even alter components based on the amount of room they'd need for a standard slider or hinge joint.

Fusion's actually based on G1 Springer's toy, with the cartoon shoulders and a couple of minor modifications. The arm transformation in this pic is new, though - the one I'd been using for the past couple of years was identical to Springer, but this one sort of came to me on the fly while I was fiddling about in Sketchup. It seems to work OK, and gives some nice shapes to the arms, even if the resulting interceptor wings are a bit thick.

Oh well, he's not supposed to be all that fast anyway.

As for weaknesses... as with the rest of the bio, it's not the whole list. I just felt that I should include enough of them to balance out him being effectively a silent, tough, triple-changing badass with more guns than Texas.

His forward-story's fairly twinky, too. Transfers to Earth in the 90s because Megatron's less likely than Shockwave to go digging into past, ah, discrepancies involving certain things going missing. Fakes his death and goes AWOL when the Decepticons pull back from Earth and retake Cybertron. Hides out and becomes a reluctant mentor to an ex-Minibot with mental problems. Sneaks back to Cybertron just in time to be underground at Ground Zero when Unicron bitch-slaps the planet. Gets peeled out of the handprint in G1S3 and takes the Autobot sigil and an Autobot City reconstruction job in preference to getting exiled to Charr and having to explain not being dead to his former comrades. Gets serious creeps from the Witwickys. Winds up racking off to exploit^Wexplore the galaxy with another recently-revived Autobot.

Maybe I should model a couple of the other characters he interacts with, too, although they're not all that interesting to me as they're not multichangers. There's the Minibot he mentors (who changes bodies at least once), the Autobot he sets off with, the poor bastard whose laser core he carries around with him, and the guy who blackmailed him and gave him the idea to bug out of the war completely (http://www.allspark.com/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=5130&view=findpost&p=1087450).

And then there's the other members of his demolition squad, who all have fairly extensive personality bios (especially the intelligence ops fast-tracker and scout who used to be a sniper, appraiser, consultant, advertising agent and political researcher at one time or another) but, surprisingly for me, no actual designs yet beyond very sketchy descriptions.

Nah, that would be the other guy I'm modelling, the 12-changer.

I'm up to 7 modes so far, but I'm still prototyping as I go, so I haven't nailed down the final look for some of the details.

And yes, he will be toyetic and completely realisable in plastic.
