Watched Macross Frontier ep 1 a few days back, very nice. .So I thought I'd start a thread about it.

As Goktimus has said elsewhere, it has a lot of similarities with the original Macross, but I think it also has bits of all the old Macross's

The Colony ship is reminiscent of the Macross 7, as are the Nightmare Valkyries, Sheryl's concert was similar to one of Sharon Apple's, her name Sheryl Norm also seems to allude to me to Sharon Apple and Sara Gnome. And in one of the scenes where the protagonist was flying around the background music used reminded me of Macross Plus.

The new Valkyrie VF 25 is pretty cool, but not as original as some I feel. The design has bits of a whole bunch of past Valkyries, but overall it's not that different to what we've seen before, but I guess they wanted something a bit more classic looking.

I would have also liked to see one of the Nightmares transform, I suspect they may not be animated to transform though, all the budget probably went into the VF 25 and the new badguys. Future episodes may change this, but it frustrates me, because I tried to build a Nightmare in 3D, but I found there was no way to reconcile the different proportions of the Battaroid and fighter modes without squashing and stretching. Sure the Bandai toy uses the proper transformation, but look at how fat it is in fighter mode. Anyways I'd like to see one transform in 3D so i can see how they got around this.

I also wonder why there’s no VF 19, the Vf 19 was supposed to be the next main transforming fighter so I thought they would have implemented them by the time of Macross Frontier, but apparently not. While I'm sure there are several reasons why they use the VF 17 as their standard fighter, it would be nice to see a 19 or indeed any other classic Macross Valkyries show up.

Good to see the Ghost Is still a part of the Macross arsenal, as well as what appears to be the Macross 25. Will it transform (in fulls 3d) I wonder?

The new enemy looks pretty good to, nice and different from previous enemies, not as silly looking as the Protodevlin, or as unimaginative as the Marduk.

Lastly, I always find it funny, that although the Macross series seems to be considered the canon from which all the Macross's are derived, characters and uniforms are always portrayte as they were in the Do you Remeber love Macross Movie.

Well DYRL is the refined version of the origional Macross series so that is what Kawamori prefers to develop. I don't think you will be seeing any references to the Marduk as Kawamori was not invloved with Macross II.

I personally haven't found it very interesting so far tho. Hopefully it will develop more.

Yeah there was an interview where he was quoted as saying "what's Macross II?" plus it doesn't fit into tha Macross time line or canon, and the Steel Angel Valkyrie (or whatever it was called) sucked, didn't mind the standard Valkyrie of the series though.

The original movie and Macross Plus are still my favourtes, but the new series debut seemed like it might have potential.

For anyone interested BANDAI showed prototypes for the 1/60 VF-25 at Wonderfest yesterday.

On display are:

A rapid prototype of the 1/60 scale DX VF-25 Super.
A rapid prototypes of the 1/72 scale VF-25 battroid and fighter mode plastic model kit.

New Bandai 1/60 prototype pics for the Macross Frontier VF-25 fans to drool over.

Yes, this is part of why I'm skipping Animated and most of Classics...

I like the fact that these will be cheaper than yamato's valks and still be 1/60 scale. I wonder if there will be any diecast content like Bandai's SOC lines? Might get yamato to pull their fingers out and improve some of the attrocious quality control they've had on some of their items (although the Sv-51 and YF-21 of late were very well made). Pre-ordering these as soon as they are available to do so. :)

What I really want is the mysterious foo fighter/VF 28? and the Vf 171, though the 24 looks cool to. Anyone got a release date?

Or how about the Macross Quarter as seen in episode 7?

There seem to be a lot of awesome Macross releseases this year, the 21, the 1/60 vf1, Tomahawk Destroid and VF 28 all look pretty cool. Ever since buying the SV 41 I've been craving Valkyries, but the question is which one(s) to get.

The VF-25 is set for a November release. Still no news of any other Mac F Valks being made (yet) :(

I've seen various pics, but still waiting for the finished product. But I want it now!

All my reservations about Macross Frontier have been swept aside by recent episodes. Wow!

The last episode I saw even had some full scale Macross fleet action and the VF 171 kicking but. Sure hope Bandai make the other Valks from the series not to mention the various armour add ons for the VF 25.

The 171 is so damn cool

The one I posted? It varies from US$102.99 + EMS shipping at Overdrive.com (http://www.over-drive-inc.com/store/default.php?cPath=49_231) and US$107 + shipping at fantofan.jp (http://www.fantofan.jp/monthly-attractions.htm) to US$112.41 + (cheaper) shipping at HLJ.com (http://www.hlj.com/hljlist2/?Dis=2&MacroType=Toy&SeriesID=3659).

Those product pics arn't final tho. It's also unknowen if the super parts (the bits in yellow resin) will be available later separately or if you'd need to re-purchase to get them.

And yes, that's a cool pic alright. Good to see the VB-6 Koenig Monster (bottom right) getting some action. :D

I didn't know they'd already listed pre-orders for VF-25.

Although its visible in the picture above the Koenig Monster really gets some action in episode 7, Suprisingly in the ep which the pic above is from the VF 171 got the most scenes (aside from the main chraracters ofcouse) Apparently they have built a full 3D Battaroid model for it, I wondered if they had before, becuase when the show started as it never seemed to transfrom.

That said we still haven't seen the Koenig in Battaroid form.

Ok, we have to really start banning non-TF toy threads here... all they do is force me to branch out and empty my wallets.

Will these toys be pre-painted or are collectors expected to do it themselves. I ask b/c I'm pretty damn hopeless as others will attest.

It will be mostly white or grey plastic that is pre-painted.

It's very much like a homage, yet it's advancing the macross mythology more than a few paces.
