this adds further to my belief that Frank Welker can't do G1 Megatron anymore, it doesn't sound remotely G1 megatron to me here or in the Robot chicken eps, where it is supposedly him

Well it has been 25 years since G1. If you listen to him in the Movie's game it's pretty close to what it used to be.

This has nothing to do with Frank Welker, rather the people who mix and add effects to his voice! There were times in the original G1 episodes when they forgot to mix effects into his voice and it sounded completely different!
Here is proof of what I'm talking about (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uORWer1KINI&feature=related) (at 3:01-3:04 when he says "Thrust - bring him back!")
Same goes for Soundwave - his voice sounds like Dr Claw! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkxLgjGT3Go)
Obviously people these days (when mixing Welker's voice) are not doing exactly what they did back in the 80s... maybe they should ask someone involved what effects they actually used!
But unfortunately people still seem to unfairly blame Frank Welker! It's not his fault!!

Robsys right- ive been following Franks work for a while now and voice acting/recording in general. His voice might not be quite as strong as it used to be but in my opinion he is still up there with the best of them.
I am ticked that he wasnt in the live action movie. He could have had any number of effects/ mixing done with his voice to make it a little stronger if needed. Michael Bay gave the impression that Frank Welker was passed it.
A lot of voices in G1 had a "metallic" feel about them, thats what they wanted. The episodes were also made in a hurry therefore there were quite a few cock ups- As Robsys examples show..

i dont agree on the "Thrust bring him back" line
but, even if the majority of g1 megatrons speech is from special effects, id still like to see if Frank Welker can do it. The should force him to go to BotCon and do voice plays etc

I think the problem with the voice in Family Guy is that instead of a flanger they've used a delay, so it's more like an echo than the usual... flanging. Still, I think it's clearly G1 Megatron's voice.
Or Doctor Claw.

i dont agree on the "Thrust bring him back" line:confused: What don't you agree with? Listen to the line of dialogue... it doesn't sound ANYTHING like what we know G1 Megatron sounds like! Yet it's still Frank Welker... Case closed!
but, even if the majority of g1 megatrons speech is from special effects, id still like to see if Frank Welker can do it.You've lost me! He's already proven several times that he can... He can't add the extra special effects to his own voice!
The should force him to go to BotCon and do voice plays etcHe's probably too busy to go... after all he is one of (if not "the") most in-demand voice over actors in history!

Well those videos that liege posted explain it anyway. He simply makes the voice more gravelly these days. Plus I suspect with his appearance in Family Guy the bass was boosted to give the voice that boom effect.

Great video - he's obviously talking about his early experiences with creating G1 Megatron's voice, but from what he's actually saying (or how it's edited) - to the average layperson watching the video - it would sound like he's just come in as someone who auditioned and made up the voice for the movie video game.
