Prime looks rather cumbersome and those knees look horrible in packaging.

Megatron's not too shabby though. It does look evil and at least they used gray.

Looking at both of them though, I'm worried what we're going to see happen is that they both getting Premium paint jobs. Prime looks not so great a various points there as does Megatron. Which means I'm not sure what I'll do, wait or buy now to avoid disappointment later.

But I guess if we go by last time, Megatron's not exactly going to move that quickly

I still reckon Prime will be great. :) Dramatic improvement over the first one. :p

The prime looks super cheap to me. Megs looks better than the initial pics we saw but the weeny left arm ruins it for me, he's just so unbalanced.

To me both toys are a major improvement over the first leaders. However as STL says they could make them even better with one of those damn premium paintjobs. I could probably jazz them up with some paint, though it'd be a pain of they just released new Premiums afterward.

Did they make Premiums of the first leaders though I can't remember.

Still if I can get one at a decent price, the movie comes out around toy sale time, so I guess with the finacial crisis we'll just see how looooowww the prices will go.

Prime is giving me a KO type feeling, something about his back/neck area just does not look right to me, but more likely than not it's just the colours used.

Could not give a flying yak about the Megatron. Still looks messy and cluttered.

At least a huge change in Megatron (duhh, he probably has a new mode cause his old ugly one was destroyed - thank goodness we're off with the alien-like jet)... but Prime.. errrmm it would be nice to put a photo of the 07 one with comparison of the 09 one.. :) Cause apart from the feet and new swords, what's the difference?

The whole chest section is different, Mel. It all come apart more like his movie self

Wow looks much cooler than the old Prime in those side to side comparison shots, the only sucky thing is the grey plastic.:(

The paint job may looks like utter crap but the toy design is superb! A much greater improvement over the original release which was fairly good in its own right.

I will wait till a Japanese or Premium version is released as the usual cut back in standard Hasbro paint finishes don't do this mold justice.

*glupp* (Blonde moment there :D) Yup, sorry I just glance through the first time, boy yes there's a significant difference! He is so much more movie-character accurate this time but why didn't they paint the headlights this time? In truck mode, I still prefer the 07 version though...

I couldn't help but laugh during that youtube video where the windscreen kept on falling off and optimus kept on saying "I'm optimus prime", "I'm optimus price". :D

I agree. This truck mode looks fragile but it definitely is more movie accurate. With the headlights, they're saving it for the premium I reckon. Sneaky buggers

Yes he does, I am very impressed by the design. I was thinking of giving this toy a miss since I already own two versions of the original Leader Prime but the design of this toy has sold me. However I will wait for a better painted version before I get it.

Don't know if anyone noticed this before?
Hasbro:

Takara:
http://www.amiami.com/images/product/review/091/TOY-RBT-0672_01.jpg

Takara's one seems to have chrome (or at least silver/grey) bits on the shoulders, as opposed to red on Hasbro's. Not making a huge amount of difference imo, but i was surprised to see a difference prior to any 'premium' range.

Its looks nice as is, but i'll wait for a version with metalics used instead of the grey. At least we know from experience there will likely be a couple of repaints.

You are right, there isn't much difference but Tak-Tom is known for using Hasbro toy pics as preliminary promos. I suspect that this is the same toy as Hasbro with a bit of flash effect and better lighting with just a tiny bit of silver paint.

I will wait for a better promo pic from Tak-Tom before I make up my mind.

Optimus Prime is a superb toy. It had me at hello back in early January.

What a joke... they made another candle wax megatron....and wtf is the deal with his two hugely disproportionate arms? Im sure theres a "rule 34" comment to be made somewhere....

Very nice improvement with Optimus though.
But will wait to see what the customisers can do with them both....
