View Full Version : What's a good price?

STL
2nd February 2008, 02:26 PM
We had one of these on the old boards which was pretty useful from time to time. I have a couple of inquiries for a good price on these if they were complete:

- Star Convoy:

- Sky Garry MIB
- Sky Garry Loose

- Metalhawk MISB
- Metalhawk loose

- Minerva MISB
- Minerva Loose

- Deathsaurus MISB
- Deathsaurus loose

- Liokaiser loose
- Liokaiser MISB

- Thunderwing Loose

- Nightbeat loose
- Nightbeat MIB
- Siren loose

Guidance would be much appreciated b/c with these guys they don't appear on eBay much and when they do, it seems only in MISB/MIB condition. And b/c they appear with such irregularity, it makes it hard to know what is a good price to pay.

:)I watch the Metalhawks on a regular basis and they seem to go between $350-$450 U.S for something MIB but not sealed. I saw a Deathsaurus recently on a site for I think $595 U.S MIB but not sealed.

- Liokaiser loose
- Liokaiser MISB

I watch for these regularly and when the come and go, I leave them in my watchlist for future reference. Here are all the recent LioKaisers:

Thanks heaps, Gok. Hrm... that seems to differ from the Liokaisers Jaydisc has been watching. It sounds especially good for a Minerva; I've seen her once or twice. One of them was a buy it now at $750 USD.

(In case anyone's wondering, I'm not planning to get all of them this year, just figuring out which one or two I might chase down)

In my opinion, the value of something is simply the amount of money someone is willing to pay, and there is no greater evaluator of that then searching eBay's Completed Listings

Most of these books always have undervalued prices. The Mark Bellomo one I have which covers the US G1 line suffers from the same issue.

I feel like they just recently reduced how far back they go with Completed Listings.

I also check "Worldwide" and "Add Store Inventory" which seems to give you the biggest sweep.

Do you know about http://www.toolhaus.org/ ? DigDug referred me to it. It's amazing for feedback checking.

whats a realistic price to pay for G1 swoop complete in good nic?

I searched a lot for this one before actually getting one early last year. Prior to that I'd been checking on eBay and this was roughly my range:

Loose: $130-140 USD. On Australia eBay normally ranges between $120-170 AUD, sometimes higher, b/c more people ere reluctant to go shipping.

MIB: $200-300 USD on us eBay about the same and sometimes less on Aussie eBay.

I got mine for $170 with a buy it now on Australia eBay. It as a bit more than I was willing but I bought it b/c the seller was offering freebies as well (micros I think it was). I'd suggest US eBay, i see more decent prices. Plus on Australia eBay they don't turn up often and when they do, it's nasty.

Just wondering what are some price guides for rare TF?

L=Loose
MIB = Mint in Box

I have listed 4 here.

Transformers C-348 DAI ATLAS
Transformers D-336 Deszaras
Transformers C-324 STAR SABER
Transformers C-327 VICTORY LEO
OR
Transformers C-328 VICTORY SABER

Thanks,

According to ToyFare's Price Guide: (Mint In Sealed Box/Loose Mint)

C-324 Star Sabre = 150USD MISB; 38USD LM
C-327 Victory Leo = 175USD MISB; 44USD LM
C-328 Victory Sabre = 500USD MISB; 125USD LM
C-348 Dai Atlas = 200USD MISB; 50USD LM
D-336 Death Zaras = 200USD MISB; 50USD LM

This is from the Sept 2003 issue of ToyFare which was the last time they published prices for Japanese G1 toys iirc

They normally go for about $350 U.S MIB but not sealed. the last complete Death Zaras I saw on ebay was around $600 U.S complete in box. GoktimusPrime

*shrug* I remember benben2142 asking this question. I honestly don't know because I really have no interest in buying Lucky Draw TFs whatsoever. I won chrome-streak when I ordered Megaplex (eHobby put everyone in a random draw and they pulled my name out). So while I'm happy to receive these things for free I personally wouldn't go out of my way to pay for one. I would not pay for Chrome-Streak if I didn't have him and I have no intention of getting gold-Meister or any other lucky draw TF.

Yer I find that very annoying. People obviously set up their auctions on ebay with the intention to sell, but they take dodgy, crappy photos and expect potential buyers to have night vision / image enhancing goggles. what would a shackwave be worth these days?
i know its not a real transformer but its close enough.
its only gota have the bot, with working electronics and the barrel cover.

also whats an incomplete superlink prime worth, with all the bots, just no guns etc?

Shackwave isn't a Transformer, but I don't think it's an illegal KO either. I believe Radio Shack actually acquired the rights to release a version of Astro Magnum (pre-TF Shockwave) - reference (http://www.toyarchive.com/Transformers/ToysShockwaveMIB.html). But be aware that Shackwave and Shockwave don't only differ in colour, there is also a slight mould difference - principally in the trigger. Shockwave has the "modesty plate" whereas Shackwave does not.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/goktimusprime/Transformers/shackwave.jpg
Left: "Shackwave," Right: Shockwave

As for how much Shackwave would sell for now, I honestly have no idea. :/

also whats an incomplete superlink prime worth, with all the bots, just no guns etc?
Are you talking about Super Link Grand Convoy or Energon Optimus Prime? Aside from colours the Takara and Hasbro versions also have different electronic gimmicks*. When you say "all the bots" I guess you mean the Super Mode version with the four vehicles. It could be worth more if it's one of those rare "mouthed" Hasbro variants too.

Umm... loose without gun and assuming the electronic gimmick still works, my guesstimate would be 75% of what a complete loose one would cost maybe?? 65% if it's also missing the missile cos that would be a bee-otch to track down separately.

------------------
*Energon Optimus Prime has a sound gimmick but no LED. Super Link Grand Convoy has an LED gimmick (the hole in the middle of his "matrix" in his chest lights up) but no sound gimmick.

I'm pretty sure shackwave can be bought for half the price of an orginal shockwave, but I've only ever seen 2 or 3 of em being sold. As for Mp8, I think 200-210 shipped is pretty decent. Esp considering RK jacked up their prices. Very unfair that they do that. If an item sells fast in the early stages (which obviously ALWAYS happens on popular figures) RK do a pricejump whereas other online stores don't, unless it's a few years down the track. Find that very annoying...greedy fools.

All reliable sources I've heard from and recent trends indicate that there will be no more Hounds. I'd expect a restock of Smokescreen and Alert late May marking the last Henkei shipment [hopefully not] ever.

King Atlas
28th April 2009, 01:19 PM
Damn. That's not very inspiring. I would think due to demand more would be produced. I would never have predicted it would be such a sought after item. Is this the same for any other henkei? (Cyclonus comes to mind)

jaydisc
28th April 2009, 03:08 PM
Let me clarify the basis of my opinion...

I've been watching stock levels at a few resellers over a period of 6 or so months. This is well after the release of Henkei 1.0 (everything up to Skyfire and Ramjet), so I can't comment on any trends with those figures. With Henkei 2.0, any figures released on Takara's monthly release day would also have a restock the following month's release day. And after that, I would not see stock levels rise again.

Hound had a restock as expected, but sold out quickly thereafter. I would say that Cyclonus followed suit, although no where near as quickly. I would predict that Ironhide and Lambor are next to go.

So that's where my opinions have come from. Additionally, RK also explicitly told me that they expect no more, and HLJ has Hound marked as discontinued.

jaydisc
28th April 2009, 08:41 PM
RK had 50 Red Alerts yesterday. Today they have none. It is possible they're sitting in uncompleted carts. If so, they'll be back tomorrow. We'll see.

Choosing registered airmail parcel (they will upgrade you to EMS if it works out cheaper - if you choose EMS on the site, their calculations aren't accurate and you'll pay more), 1 grimlock to Australia is USD32.98

You can get shipping cost for any order by:

- next step
After "next step", there's another click to confirm that will trigger the order and go to Paypal

Or is it actually the best time? This is only the beginning of the mainstream trailer releases and the movie hasn't hit yet. when it does, IMO, prices on optimus prime are gonna go sky high and its not going to slow for some time.

so perhaps this is really the last chance for a while.

The first movie suckered me back into collecting. And with the success of the first movie reaching a wider audience its hard to ignore the impact of the second movie.

I still say not a good time, but that said I believe alot of people are paying higher than normal prices because
A: They believe that anything TF wise they buy now they is going to increase in value.
OR
B: They have no clue as to actual values and have to much money to spend. (Sellers Dream)

I have no idea what the bidders are thinking. (omega) - You can never tell with ebay aus bidders. In my experience, aussie ebayers are reluctant to "buy it now" on say a $200 misb item, but a week later they'll bid $230+ on an auction for the same item from a different seller. I've seen this so many times, not to mention crazy bids on items such as G1 Primes or series 3 G1's. What are they thinking? Or is just the odd new ebayer that alters the trend?

He's a well-known character and it's a rare Euro-Australasian exclusive, so if it's in good condition I'd personally pay up to $40.

Fair call.

So if i had the chance to get him for $100, would he be worth it?
Seeing as I already own the gun...

MISB Energon Omega Supreme

For this item, I reckon $110 with postage would be a good price. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Energon Galvatron: $100
Energon Megatron $50-$65
Magnaboss $80

My prices assumed each was individually shipped too. Galvatron can get very expensive depending on how lucky you get.

It seems to be going up all the time. I remember when I thought $250 was a little too much for it. $400 is a good estimate Bread but I wouldn't be overly surprised if our friends at HasTak reissued it once more as it wasn't so long ago it was reissued and the demand for it is surely there.

I've also noticed a price hike on the reissue predaking set. From what I've seen, it's been selling for more than the original G1 set recently. $400AUD would be a fair call.

Are you talking abt the big ID guide with the G1 prime figure on the red cover? There's an ebay au seller that always has em for like $57 posted, but yeh you can nab em from overseas for about $18-$25US shipped. I have a different little handbook which my gf got for me from minotaur for about $15 I think.

The big one still shows up at Borders stores. I got mine from there with a 40% off coupon, I think I paid about $32 for it IIRC.
