You might want to check your avatar :p ;)

I'm a fan of cartoon accuracy and the seekers have the insignias upside down in robot mode. My avatar is from Divide and Conquer and his insignia position is the same as MP11 in that shot.

So you want his insignia upside down in robot mode as it was in the show, not right-side-up as it (generally) was on the the toys. Got it.

Yes. The cassettes are widely knocked off. Generally, unless a G1 toy is from Takara, Hasbro, Joustra, Milton Bradley, Antex, Lynsa, El Greco, Iga, Rubiplas, Estrela or GiG, assume it's illegitimate.

I'm remember a Transformer from (I'm guessing here) the early 90's but I can't remember who or what it is. It's a large black jet, that has an orange(?) tank that rolls out of its rear.

Am I delusional? Or does something like this actually exist?

This original design named Univorsum (http://www.etsy.com/au/listing/182792217/unvorsum-the-galactic-robot-signed-print?ref=related-4) looks pretty rad. Seems like TF Prime Gaia Unicron might have adopted the freakish one big arm concept.

They'll eventually be serving as Dinobots (along with Strafe and Slash, and Slog and Snarl if they actually turn up) in my roughly* CHURG-based collection, but that's along with AOE Grimlock. I'm not sure how well they go with Generations Grimlock being as they're not in anything like the G1 Dinobots in colour or appearance (thank god, Hasbro grey everywhere ugh). I'm just happy to finally be getting a full set of Dinobots, after getting just one in Generations, three in Animated, one in Classics, two in Energon, and the Armada/Universe/RID/whatever ones being impossible to find at non-scalper prices.

*very roughly. It's got toys from BW, AEC, the movies, Animated, and Prime as well as CHURG.

I cannot complete the last stage of transforming Age of Extinction Deluxe Crosshairs. Whenever I place the lower door panels into position, the rear side parts pop out and vice versa. I think it's the big rubber panels that's getting in the way, but I can't seem to find a way to make them fit. :( Instructions have been useless and I've watched video reviews which haven't helped either. It really doesn't help when every video reviewer is transforming the toy from car to robot, even though it's packaged in robot mode. This toy is so frustrating, it's making toys like Big Convoy, BT Grimlock and MP Megatron look good.

Could someone please advise me on how to transform this toy? :(

*bump* Help please.
Here's some pics detailing the trouble I've been having with AoE Crosshairs...

First: Ewww. Second: Lol!

Seems strange that they got the colour scheme right but then swapped his alt mode for one of his teammates animal forms. Then again I suppose they did the same for Snarl in Animated - looks just like Snarl in robot mode, but has Slags animal mode.

Na, there isnt, but I bet if someone from Hasbro reads your post we will see one soon ;)

I spose it is only the beaked head that is reminicent of Flamefeather, even the clawed hands on the beast mode are more Cindersaur - Flamefeather just has fingerless claws like BM Tankor

I'm doing a hefty collection cull, trying to keep a single 'definitive' of my favourite characters. After finding the upcoming Generations Cosmos and Swerve are the best so far, I went to pre order at BBTS, but they had since sold out. Do we have any word on the likelihood they'll be released locally? I know TFS has them for pre order, but I have some stuff in BBTS PoL and there's nothing else TFS has that I want for now.

You're right - purple and yellow was correct for a quarter of a century, but his Generations toy is purple and orange.

I have a couple of spares in a box upstairs somewhere... If you can't find one online LMK and I'll sort it out. Otherwise you could post in the Bumblebee the Toy Scout section.

My Question: How tall are the G1 Predacons in bot mode compared to other bots? I gather bigger than car bots like Jazz but slightly smaller than seekers/leaders...

That's great - yeah, I was thinking that Ryall might like that not just because of Chrischarger, but because it might be nostalgic for him in terms of when they first got the Transformers licence. If you have the 2007 movie prequel comics they'd probably like to sign that too, since I believe Ryall and Adams were both heavily involved. Or Reign of Starscream - I think Ryall wrote that one too.

So how big is Robot Masters Victory Saber compared to Voyager Classics Prime?

Robotmasters Victory Saber is skinny but is basically wearing stilts, so he's tallish, but if you put him next to Voyager Prime they'll look like two different toylines - like a vintage Luke Skywalker standing next to a vintage He-Man. Also, it's a truly awful toy, with annoying rubbery bits instead of nice hard ABS plastic, and the downscaling eliminates the best gimmicky bits of Star Saber. I would avoid buying one unless you really, really want it.

"Chasing fans"? No, instead of solid ABS plastic, which is predominantly used for Transformers, it uses rubbery PVC for the sword, ears, shoulder guns, which gets floppy and bent out of shape, depending on temperature. It's like... is it Pirates of the Caribbean where a combatant has a bendy fencing sword against an opponent with a solid one?

The original G1 Star Sabre toy's plastic is pretty poor quality IMO. I personally don't have too much of an issue w/ the quality of RM Star Sabre's plastic quality or rubber parts considering the relatively cheaper price of that toy. The rubber is soft, but not so soft that it would super-easily bend out of shape like say the rubber used on a lot of TF Prime and Age of Extinction toys. Perhaps Star Sabre has a legacy of being made from inferior materials. :o Let's hope MP Star Sabre bucks this trend. ;)

If you are getting the Vol1 Generations 2014 book, or can look at someone else's, they show the 8 or 9 colour versions in there... I just can't recall, or easily access my copy at the moment.
If the FJ comes in red, I would imagine that there is a red version of the toy... as the limited edition versions of that toy were all colours done to match the corresponding car being purchased (so that the owner had a Transformer that turned into the exact car they just purchased).

Do people consider Jetblade from the TF2 toyline to be a Seeker? He shares the same body mould as Dirge, has the shoulder points and nipple turbines like other seekers and has been retooled into Skywarp and Thundercracker so he probably should be.

Just trying to figure out across the TF multiverse just how many Seekers I own - I've got over 30+ Starscreams but with all the others the number mut be at least double that :) I suppose I should count my Air Vehicon General since Starscream calls them seekers even though they don't look the part ;)

So, in a non-spoilery way, what are peoples' thoughts on the Windblade character/series?

I haven't been following any of the comic series - hard to get 'em in Japan, and the Tassie State library usually gets them in which gives me some nice holiday reading - but I'm curious to see how the character is coming along.
The interviews I've read from Maighread Scott sounded like it could go really well or get bogged down in the 'female Autobot' angle at the expense of good writing/characterisation.

I really like it so far. The whole Fembot thing and why she has never been seen before is handled in Windblade issue 1 really well over the course of only 1 page (I think it was 1, maybe 2). I think she is a great addition so far to Transformers and makes a great change from the dude with a gun that 99% of Transformer are.

I'm currently in the USA. I wasn't able to be over here for BotCon unfortunately, but as the theme was rubbish, who really cares?

Anyway. I walked into a Comic and Collectibles shop in Anaheim called Phat Collectibles. I checked out their Action Figures section and it was nice to see a case and a half full of Transformers from all generations on display and for sale. There was a little tub of random action figure parts in the section, and riffling through, I found the chain gun, saw and maces for Fox Kids Rhinox. There was a Fox Kids Rhinox for sale in the cabinet, without the accessories, so I called the guy behind the desk over and told him to match them up and put the price up!

So who have your Autobots been fighting against? One thing I really loved about Beast Wars (and Machine Wars) was the nearly even split between goodies and baddies. I collected most of my early BW toys in versus sets, so each time I got a Maximal, there was also a Predacon for him to fight.

I've personally been using Decepticons from other lines to fight, just yesterday I had AoE Drift battling Battle In Space Cyclonus, but of course, that's completely "out of universe." And while I do enjoy playing out-of-universe campaigns from time to time, I do also like to play "in-universe", and this option is limited atm because I only have Galvatron for my AoE 'Bots to battle. :(

Which disaster are you referring to? That he'll yellow? Or that clear plastic tends to crack where other plastic would form stress marks?

I'd get rid of him while I could. The risk will always be there and only gets worse with age.

I don't think you have too much to worry about, clear plastic is more brittle than more standard plastics but the seeker mold is fairly solid, except maybe for the wing attachment points. If your careful you shouldn't have any issues. It's not anywhere near as fragile as gold plastic.

Pretty much the same size as Scorponok; half the size of Fortress Maximus; at least double the size of most G1 toys. Look at any of the big G1 collections in the Reflector's Collections and Comparisons thread here for a better idea.

I don't have many G1 toys on display but Overlord is one of them. I also don't have quick access to my other G1 toys so this is a bit of a random mix.

Monstructor, Devastator and Omega might be smaller than you expect. ;)

He's the biggest G1 'con and unless I'm mistaken the second biggest G1 overall. (Some of the Japanese Cybertron commanders might be bigger with their combined modes and all).

Paulbot

The Inflirtation and Stormbringer miniseries are the first two series in publication order.

Publication order is fine to read by too, although chronological order works well too.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a publishing order somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

Edit:. The TFwiki IDW (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/IDW) page gives a pretty good publishing order.

Cheers heaps man, so your advice is to follow the timeline rather than the publication history?

Paulbot
11th July 2014, 10:31 PM
Publication and Chronological order is very similar. There's a few miniseries that are set before the first comics, and same goes for most of the Spotlight comics.

I like publication order in that each story reveals more about the overall universe, and flashback stories fill in the blanks. It also means you read the stories the same way originally intended and experienced. If you read publication order, no story should reveal plot points, even if a later story is set back in time.

Usually I recommend people skip the first three eras of the IDW (Furman, McCarthy, Costa) altogether and start with the current series (the prologue "Death of" issue then MTMTE and RID).

Edit: here's some more thoughts on the matter (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=13607). I knew I'd answered that before :)

Thanks mate, muchly appreciated, I'll take your advice and start with "The Death of Optimus Prime"

I second the "start at death of OP" theory for new readers.

I loved the Furman era "-tions" series, many of the things we see in the MtMtE and RiD books have their origins in that series, but they were many years ago and are in no way necessary to understand or enjoy the 2 newer series.

Read the 30+ issues of MtMtE and possibly RiD, then if you like them, and want some of the "back history" then you can hunt down the cheaper trades from the previous authors.

If you have comixology on your iPad or tablet, there are a few single issues you might like to hunt down, like Spotlight Shockwave.

Generally, taking Paulbots advice with the comics is a very good idea.

As someone that has read every IDW Transformers comic except for most of Transformers Ongoing I's say Death of Optimus Prime onwards + Last Stand of The Wreckers (cause its just awesome) is must read and if you want to know more read the -ation's, Spotlight's and AHM. But don't bother with Transformers Ongoing, it's just horrible.

Paulbot
12th July 2014, 03:56 PM
The ongoing does feature a two part story by James Roberts with Alex Milne art that's very good and a prelude to MTMTE's Shadowplay story. If you only read two issues of the 'ongoing' read #22 and #23.

I'd call it safe, since none seem to have been KO'd. I've had nothing but good experiences ordering stuff from China or HK and it's usually cheaper to boot. I would go with any preorders though, just to be safe, just in stock items.

It's safe as long as you're sensibly cautious - you've done the research on the toys, which is great - the other half is ensuring you're buying it from a dealer with a long history and the right amount of positive feedback. If they don't have a bunch of negative feedback about not sending items or selling knockoffs you should be fine.

Yeah it's like Soundwave/Soundblaster is great plus two cassettes I can't get anywhere else. But on the minus side I don't like Headmasters (mainly because of the horrible english dub)

There definitely was someone who was going to make an accurate fandub, but I didn't see anything beyond a trailer. Youtube IP issues?

EDIT: Here's the trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xn1h6QKbfQ), they are apparently still working on it. It sounds great. Once they've done, I'd definitely watch it. I enjoyed the subbed Headmasters a lot. Some much cooler combiner fights and general mood. :)

Dubs just don't translate as well as subs, and since Japanese G1 is officially licensed and sold in Western countries, including Australia, there's also a moral and legal issue over producing and distributing fan dubs (or even fan subs). Another alternative may be to ask someone to sit with you and read the subtitles aloud for you.

Perhaps there could be a fan made audio narrative made for people with reading difficulties. It would be relatively simple to do, just have someone read the subtitles aloud while watching each episode with the TV on mute, and recording their voice on audio files and upload them for viewing. It'd be somewhat similar to listening to an audio book, only without the audio descriptions of everything that's happening (although that would benefit the visually impaired). Perhaps we could list all the Japanese G1 episodes and see who's willing to narrate which episodes and upload them somewhere. AFAIK most image hosting sites (e.g. Photobucket) can also host audio files too. :)

I'd be willing to get the ball rolling... although I'm currently coming down with a cough and sore throat. :o Thoughts?

GoktimusPrime

Toys in the same class are more or less the same size as each other (give or take a centimetre). I took a sample of between 3 to 9 toys from each class from toys pre-dating Dark of the Moon, and a sample that came after, and here's what I got...

Pre-DotM
* Deluxe = 15cm
* Voyager = 19cm
* Leader = 25cm

Post-DotM

Not to mention BM Thrust and your beloved Animated Lugnut. There are exceptions, but I was just looking at averages, but of course, individual results may vary greatly (e.g. the average Australian man is 1.75m tall, but many of us aren't 175cm in height ;)). :o As we all know, the classes are really based on price point rather than standardised sizing anyway.

I wouldn't even lump them into just pre and post DOTM rather by year. I was cleaning my collection and noticed TFA Leader Megatron is way shorter than his Cybertron counterpart. The same thing happens when I order stuff *EMS* from Japan. Sits in Sydney Customs for ages - usually at least 4 days. (It used to be on my doorstep within 5 days from Japan a few years ago. Now it takes 7 or 8 days before I get it.) Even being SAL, it shouldn't be to much longer before it leaves Sydney.

I've never had an item sit in customs for more than a few hours. I've had a couple of packages in the last week go through customs and only took a matter of hours.

It may however be that it's not sitting in customs. Unless JP Post specifically says it is in customs it may actually be in Aus Post hands. I had a package disappear when it hit Sydney, turns out it was in Aus Post hands for a month without any tracking. They were covering themselves because they were under staffed and couldn't deliver in a timely manner.

Thanks for the reply Sinnertwin. I just heard back from another source that he is pretty sure Scourge was short packed and that he recalls a lot of the Transformers from 1987 were short runs (not as many made) due to a falling in popularity of Transformers around then. Which makes sense and possibly explains why the TM movie bots were not released here...

Scourge might also suffer the fate of "army building" with quite a few people wanting three sweeps to go with their Scourge, to match the more common number in the cartoon and comic.
(there wasn't a lot of army building character toys in Gen1, and it was a lot easier and cheaper to army build three, than something like Insecticons or Wreckers... and the Sweeps were more like characters too)

GoktimusPrime

I never knew that TM Scourge was shortpacked. TM Scourge, Cyclonus, Hot Rod, Blurr and Kup were never released in Australia (and quite honestly, even if they had been, I probably would've skipped them -- cos in 1987 I would've rather spent my pocket money on new characters rather than getting the same ones again with new weapons :p). I only got Targetmaster Hot Rod and Kup because they were reissued... Targetmaster Blurr is one of the few Transformer toys that I purchased off the aftermarket at above its original price (just cos it was the only Hasbro Targetmaster toy that I didn't have ;)). I only got Stepper because that was reissued. But as for Artfire, TM Scourge and Cyclonus - unless they get reissued, I'm not gonna get them. I have Classicsverse versions of all those characters now, so as far as I'm concerned, that'll just have to do. :o

I don't think that's an Australian ad, I don't have any old toy catalogue ads from Aus that use a drawing instead of a photo.

So double the US price and around $20-$30 AUD was what the cars/jets/targetmasters sold for here in the 80s. Comparable to a deluxe today really.

My mum bought about a dozen Kups when Grace Bros reduced the price to $5 each. They became 'gift fodder' for the next 2 years (i.e. all of my friends and cousins got a Kup!). :p

Yeah, I remember buying the reissue Ramjet at Toys R Us Liverpool for $16.99

Can I have some more info on this reissue?? Was it still released in the official hasbro box or was there some way to determine it was Chinese (Chinese writing)? Do you still have the toy ST? If it's opened can I see a picture of the box and the manufacturer/date stamp on the toy?

Yeah, the question was about US retail, (presumably since we didn't get Targetmaster Cyclonus and Scourge here anyway.)

Of course *forehead slap*

Official Hasbro box and all, RC
There were no stickers to on it indicate that it was a Chinese reissue or anything like that. The asst. number is different, i'm pretty sure of that
I still have it & it is opened, but from memory the copyright on the Seekers was printed on the inside of their legs, so a photo may be difficult, but i can always supply the text.
Leave it with me for a few, i've got to dig the box up, but it shouldn't be too hard to find

That reminds me, i also bought sealed versions of G1 Inferno, Astrotrain, Blitzwing, Mirage & Sunstreaker among others while i was overseas... in 1993 ;)

Sorry to contradict you but there were. I have quite a few and they all have a small black sticker with Chinese writing on them. The copyright information below the Tech Specs was also shorter when compared to their western original release.

If it helps, here (http://highendtfs.com/?q=node/15) is a link to info regarding the Chinese reissues. In it, it states "The boxes had only tiny alternations and a small Chinese name sticker in the corner, making them very difficult to differentiate from the original releases, especially when the name sticker was removed." It goes on to say that these stickers were very easy to remove so that may have been the case with yours Sinner. There doesn't seem to be any images in that article showing the Chinese sticker but I can post one here later if people would like (I posted one here in the Acquisitions thread back in Jan 2010 however the image has expired :()

When you guys count your collection do you count each character or each set? I have 530 characters but only 387 sets. With combiner sets, cassette sets, vs sets and toys like Fort Max with multiple characters I count them as individual characters.

Each character individually, with some exceptions. Eg:
6 Constructicons & not Devastator
Headmaster & Targetmasters as two.
I also count doubles and/or variations. If paid for it, i can count it ;)

Most people count by character, so multi-packs are not counted as one.
How you count partner characters is up to you (toys that are specifically paired to a toy, like a Cassette or City's bots, or Minicons). Some people will count them as separate toys, others will count them as necessary to complete the larger toy (like you'd expect if you were buying one or reviewing one). But ultimately it is up to you to come up with a method that has the least amount of exceptions, so that when you take a stocktake at any time, your count will match up with your previous counts... and more importantly, a method that doesn't spoil your fun by being over complicated.

For me, it is any Hasbro/TakaraTomy figure that isn't required to complete another figure (it can be broken or missing a part)... and has to be intended as a playable toy (not a figurine).
Like, I wouldn't count Scamper because I wouldn't buy a "complete" Metroplex that doesn't have a Scamper (if I count Scamper, I can't count Metroplex as a complete toy).... or Brainstorm without an Arcana (head)... or an Armada Hotshot that doesn't have a Jolt Minicon. (a 3-pack of Minicons count as three, but a Minicon specifically partnered to a larger toy doesn't count as one... because would you buy the larger toy if it was listed as "compete" and didn't have its Minicon?)
But that's just me. Some people count figurines, some people count partner figures.... while others don't count at all, because they see it as ruining the fun by creating work.

Sorry to hijack this thread but the knowledge of these Chinese Re-issues is new to me and quite frankly is leaving a bad taste in my mouth...I wasn't actively collecting between around 92-96/7 so rarely if at all ventured into a toy store during this time so it would explain why I didn't see them. I do however remember seeing the Gold Packaging Classics Versions in Kmart- but by the time I could afford to buy TF's again they were long gone and Machine wars had just hit the shelves.

The link you provided 5FDP labels these as re-issues, so they are not knock-offs right? Just Hasbro wanting to flood the market again with previously released transformers and presumably getting them made cheaper in China than say Japan?

Since finding out about the Chinese Re-issues I feel that I have been ripped off by a toy dealer (who probably knew) that sold me a MISB Cyclonus and MISB Ramjet back in the early 2000's as Vintage for about 5 times (each) what Sinnertwin said he paid for his Ramjet  The Chinese stickers must have been removed because I definitely didn't see them on them...Ah to be naive and gullible.

The Cyclonus I purchased thinking it was Vintage - the Takara copyright has been blacked out

http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p498/ravagecat/20140730_214235_zps0101635f.jpg (http://s1152.photobucket.com/user/ravagecat/media/20140730_214235_zps0101635f.jpg.html)

I always wondered why my Ramjet (mentioned above and purchased from the same dealer as Cyclonus) had the Takara stamp rubbed out on the toy's leg, but was confused because this was a common trait used on the gold boxed classics but I knew Ramjet wasn't released in the gold box :confused: I could find no info on Fred's workshop specifically mentioning it either so shrugged it off as an unknown/un-documented variant. Also as an FYI to others that are looking at purchasing a loose Ramjet and don't have access to the copyright stamp on the toys leg, the large Decepticon Logos on his wings are cut differently in the Chinese KO Re-issue. The Vintage is curved around the top where the re-issue is cut with straight lines (see below)

I haven't counted since I was a kid, back then (early to mid nineties) I had over 100 G1 toys largely paid for by a paper round. I counted each character. but not the combiner.

I couldn't be bothered counting these days, its probably over 1000, i'm not sure. I have a lot of alternators/binaltechs, a lot of classics/generations, nearly all of animated, at least one version of most of the movie characters and toys, a massive amount of Prime toys. I just couldn't be bothered. I have trouble finding time to open new transformers, let alone count them.

When I first started collecting I purchased a MIB G1 Prowl with prowl still sealed to the bubble - only when I got it the home I found someone had just put a classics gold boxed prowl inside the original G1 box. Not that i'm still bitter about it or anything :D

There are plenty of these Chinese issues floating around in Australia - always check the manufactures stamp - if the country of original is covered over its a giveaway. The boxes are easy tells from the front (grey border is usually different) and the back - copyright blanked over as in your example.

You've covered the copyright stamping & notice ( Ramjet's reads: ©1985 Hasbro Bradley, Inc. , Pawtucket R.I. 02861 USA All rights reserved.) which are identical & 5FDP's supplied a photo of the stickers, but the one thing that i found really odd is that none of the G1 figures i purchased in the 90's have these stickers on them. They were purchased from about 4 or 5 different sources, so it does look like the retailers must of peeled them off.

No problem ST, so can I confirm on your actual toy of Ramjet that he has the straight edge Large Decepticon logos and the copyright stamp on the outside of his leg has the Takara Japan part blocked over?

...and does anyone know if the purpose of these re-issues <cough> was just Hasbro wanting to get more Transformers out there but were able to get them made cheaper in China?? They're not KO's right?
What I'm gathering is that they are legit and they started off using the original G1 boxes (with modifications) then that lead them to changing to the Gold box versions right?? Any info from more knowledgeable bots would be appreciated :)

The very first production run of that toy reportedly had a problem that resulted in breakages, but I don't think Australia ever received any of those figures. I haven't heard of that problem happening with any of those toys that were purchased outside of the United States. Hasbro fixed the problem ASAP and all subsequent productions didn't have that issue AFAIK.

If some parts of the MP-1 mould were unusable and had to be remade after 8 years of use how is the G1 Convoy mould still in such good shape after 30 years?

I hope they haven't made new moulds over the years, that would make the reissues no better than KO's in some peoples eyes.

Strange that the robot could be missing. It's really BIG. Expensive too.

If it comes to a dispute you will need every bit of information and communication you have. If you have the shipping invoice (papers attached to the box) check the weight - I could see that as being a huge piece of evidence to prove weather the robot was in there when the parcel was sent.

Where exactly did you order from?
