I can have a look over the weekend but I never noticed (So-called "annoying") added effects on the first release so would need a few particular examples to listen out for on the remastered episodes.

Also it would only be a small sample, no time or inclination to watch all G1 to confirm changes to every ep :p

All I've watched so far has been the pilot and I didn't notice anything either way, added/missing/cut etc.

That's cool. If they don't have those over-the-top crashing and laser sounds in the opening, then I'd say it's a fair bet that they don't have those sounds for the rest of it. Cheers. :)

Just watching Heavy Metal War from the remastered series volume 1 disc 3:
No crash sound at the first appearance of the title, no seeker blasts until they actually start firing in robot mode. No noticeable 'wrong' sound effects I can notice. (Also I don't see any of the visual errors the TFwiki lists from the Rhino version. )

Heavy Metal War on my original Madman disc has the second opening sequence instead of the original one, but that seems to have extra sound effects too. In the actual course of the episode though I'm not noticing that much else "added". One or two thing seem a bit over done

That's not a bad price. MP's are expensive on the secondary market and really it's not too far off Hasbro HK's original price for him which I think was around $150.

They are pretty fun little toys, and they look pretty good with the WfC Soundwave mold (I don't have the FoC Voyager), and the way HTT incoroprated the pile-driver gimmick is pretty clever, but personally I wouldn't pay $70 for them. The Masterpiece versions outdo them in every way IMO.

No. They're great Scouts, but not $35 each great. For that price you might as well get the Masterpieces.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TAKARA-TOMY-TRANSFORMERS-MP-16-Frenzy-Buzzsaw-NEW-/121233321449?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c3a11ade9

i.e. buy both and sell off Buzzsaw and Ravage at 50% of what you paid -- works out to be just over $70 for Rumble and Frenzy incl. shipping.
You might be able to find cheaper, I just spent a few seconds finding those on eBay; they were just the first non-KO ones that I found (someone w/ an eBay account should really report all those KO sellers ).

After playing Rise of the Dark Spark, which had a bit more screen time of Rumble/Frenzy, I really like the United pair now.
Because of that, I think the United pair (and the recent FunPub redecos) fit well with both the WFC/FOC toys (http://www.toycollectors.com.au/collections/griffinofoz/c32s2.jpg) (better than the data disk pair in robot mode), and the Generations/Classicverse (http://www.toycollectors.com.au/collections/griffinofoz/c12s2.jpg) ones.

Alright, so super long shot here, but...
Does anyone know of anywhere I could find one of these (http://shop.brando.com/iPhone-5-5s-Transformers-Soundwave-Phone-Case-Limited-Edition-_p10615c304d4.html)? My 3-year-old iPhone 4 has been having battery issues lately - which mysteriously solved themselves today, typically enough - so I picked up a 5 yesterday.
Since the new one won't work with my old Decepticon logo case, I'd sort of like something even cooler to replace it, and Soundwave seems like a good option.

The Prime trailer doesn't quite have the same 'fittingness' for a smartphone as Soundwave...I was just going to look for another Decepticon logo, but then I thought about it and realised that my phone basically does all everything for me that Soundwave does for the Decepticons...except for shooting stuff with concussion blasters and ejecting a bunch of minions from itself.

The type you've pictured, the late G1 (g1.5) UK non-combing release, have smaller cards than the G1 constructions. Somewhere between 2/3 to 1/2 the size of the G1 cards.

GoktimusPrime
18th November 2014, 04:13 PM
It's technically pure G1, not even G1.5 as those toys were never repackaged as G2. The G2 Constructicons themselves are an entirely different set; different colours, and of course, restored ability to form Devastator. :)

Paulbot
18th November 2014, 04:18 PM

griffin

I think anything released in the UK after America axed their Gen1 line, could be referred to as either Gen1 or Gen1.5... as it is a very vague concept that isn't even an official term. It is just something some fans use to be a little more specific to a year and a half of toys released by one branch of Hasbro (which made there way here because it was before our Hasbro branch switched to Hasbro America stock in 1997).
Anything more specific is just being picky.

Just measured my set for you man;

Card height is 20.8cm
Card width is 14.4cm
Edge of card to edge of bubble (incase of the case rail placement)is approx 1cm
Depth from back of card to front of bubble is approx 4cm

These measurements are overall on my set. So, might be a good idea to allow tolerances just in case there are some slight differences (especially regarding the bubble placement in relation to the internal case rails.) :)

Are you measuring against a AFA case you already have? I'd be interestd to know if these guys fit in the normal Construction cases also ;)

It was moved in response to some people saying that they wouldn't post photos or acquisitions of expensive items (like some Gen1 items) on the public acquisitions section because they fear that someone might know where they live.
It doesn't make it any more difficult for members to post here or there, and if one section is perceived as safer than another for these rarities, why not use it.
Besides, it makes as much sense in the collections section as the acquisitions section.

My mother was dragging us along to watch some piano concerto that neither of us really wanted to watch, so on the way we stopped by HobbyCo (or Uncle Petes?) and grabbed these toys. I have to defer to other long-timers for that answer, as I didn't see them until mid 1985 at school, as I didn't get to go to stores that had toys at that age.

Thanks, looks like the same deal here, independents could have got their stock direct or from stores overseas. The first waves were so popular in the US they restocked first.

Is it worth going for the Protectobot Evac Squad? I really think the Hot Spot can work great as my Classics Inferno, even though it has a different head (though it is cartoon accurate) and ladder. It doesn't look there's a release of any kind of the original in the future, so I'm highly considering it:

What are the differences?

The way you've listed that, I will take it you mean the recent reissue, so in that case, not much!

The 80's us Powermaster prime had non-retractable hands and some chrome differences compared to the Japanese release, but were basically the same. God bomber was never released in the US.

All the ginrai names are different stages of transformation, and Optimus with apex is the US reissue name for the full god ginrai from Japan, which never existed in the us in the 80s

Aside from copyright stampage, the main difference between the original and reissue Ginrai toy is the colour of the eyes on the small robot. They're red on the original, just like Powermaster Optimus Prime, but blue on the reissue (like the anime).
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CjOB2WOEIeM/UEi8bntgNwI/AAAAAAAAB9s/YldKLJhs3No/s640/GinraiClose.jpg

Differences between Ginrai and Optimus Prime include:
* As Krayt said, non-retractable hands on Super OP
* Super OP's hands are red, Super Ginrai's are blue
* Super OP and Super Ginrai's arms are completely different moulds. Ginrai's arms are completely sculpted all the way around, whereas Optimus Prime's are flat and hollow on the insides (facing the body). Ginrai's arms have a faux elbow joint sculpted there, whereas Optimus Prime's doesn't.
* Ginrai (human component) has chrome on the engine backpack, whereas Hi-Q does not.
* The flat grey parts on Optimus Prime are a darker metallic grey and silver chrome on the thighs.
* Optimus Prime is completely plastic and the truck windows are just stickers. Ginrai's truck cab is die-cast metal, and the cab windows are transparent blue plastic.
http://mostlytransformersredux.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/c-310-god-ginrai-inside-differences.html

The reissue of Ginrai was released by Hasbro as "Apex Armour Optimus Prime," which was basically the Ginrai toy, but Godbomber^Apex Armour's missile has no chrome and is ridiculously long.

Autobot = Cybertron = C-XXX
Decepticon = Destron = D-XXX

In japan most figures were released as singles, and also as a "Team", so combiners would have 1 to 5 in sequence, then the 6th as the combiner itself for the giftpack. This continues on for things like the Powermaster Jets, Ginrai and Godbomber, Star Sabre and Victory Leo, etc etc.

Many Japanese 'combiners' were sold as individuals and as giftsets. C-307 is the Japanese equivalent of Powermaster Optimus Prime. C-309 is the Godbomber trailer. C-310 is both together.

Well if your new to this you need an extra piece of info...

the C/D system only started in the thirdyear of toys, so the 1984/85 (85/86 in japan) series are 1-50 (or so) 84 Cybertrons first, then 84 Destrons, and repeat....

EHobby reissues and exclusives have recently fleshed out 50 to 100 quite a bit...

Then for the 86 toyline, both C and D started at 50

The 200's barely exist, all the Pretenders, 300's are the Non-Pretenders from Masterforce onwards.

That's really handy.

I've always thought to myself why Dirge, Ironhide & Ratchet were relatively low down the numbering system (#97, 98 & 99 respectively) when they were popular G1 characters. And the way Ironhhide was killed off in the G1 movie still brings a tear to my eye.

Ironhide wasn't released in Japan until 2001, and Ratchet and Dirge were only mailaways (again, until 2001. Although I guess Ratchet and Ironhide were still technically just mailaways until 2007.) Poor Gears was the most mistreated Japanese GeeWun character, never released at all until 2004.

This week's BigW catalogue (which doesn't have any Transformers toys, so I didn't bother with a news posting to ask this), has a kids pyjama set in Transformers theme, but the artwork is unknown but familiar.
On page 35 (https://www.bigw.com.au/bigw-catalogues.html#view=catalogue&saleId=7714&page=35), it is called "Transformers Heroes" and has three robot faces - Bumblebee, Optimus and Grimlock... but each is done in such an animated way, that Grimlock looks rather cutesy.
Does anyone have a link to where this art comes from, or seen it before?
I feel like I've seen it somewhere, especially the Grimlock... but can't find it to put my mind at ease.

MP Bumblebee's instructions refer to the front panel of the vehicle as the bonnet, but as we all know, the front section of a VW Beetle is for stowage, whereas the rear section houses the engine. But ever since I was a kid, I've always referred to Beetles as having the boot in front and bonnet in the back.

But is this actually correct or is it actually a case of the VW Beetle having its engine in the boot and stowage under the bonnet?

Normally a package will say it is in the origin country till Australia Post gets their hands on it. In between those two points is something called Australian Customs. If your tracking says it was in Japan for days chances are really good that it actually got stuck in Australian Customs as packages will randomly stay in Customs hands for long periods of time. Shipping companies and stores that ship internationally take no responsibility for time in Customs and don't refund as it happens all over the world.

yellow was the first version released, then came blue, the box art they've used, has just carried through

griffin
19th December 2014, 01:05 PM
Yellow version was released first, because of licensing (from what I remember, I think the blue colour was not a real colour to that model Corvette, so Chevrolet wouldn't allow it). Later they were allowed to do a blue version, but left the packaging unchanged (saves money... and it still had the same BT number, just with a sticker on the box to say that it was the "Gen1 coloured version").
(By the time Hasbro did their version of Tracks a bit over a year later, the blue version was possible.)

Later they would produce different packaging for different decos released at the same time (Jazz/Meister & Prowl), but the early ones (Smokescreen, Tracks, Smokescreen GT) they used the same packaging probably as a cost-cutting measure.

Which toy expo was this? Sounds pretty cool to feature cancelled toys!

KOToys.com (website has been now taken down and were the people behind the CHMS line of knock-off variants such as the chrome seekers and glow-in-the-dark rainmakers) had it listed on their website for USD$250 at one stage. I think because it was listed by an infamous KO-er, people were more skeptical about the toy's legitimacy. However I recall seeing it sell on eBay for USD$500 towards the end of that crazy phase.

Basically it's the first run of eHobby Sunstorm in European packaging. If they weren't 'lunchtime specials' snuck out of a factory, they were either accidents or mockups for the market. So knowledgeable as always good sir. That pic was the origin for my question. ;)

Another question :o: What's that boxed clear Starscream on the top right hand corner of the same pic? (above boxed Soundwave & Starscream).

Basically it's the first run of eHobby Sunstorm in European packaging. If they weren't 'lunchtime specials' snuck out of a factory, they were either accidents or mockups for the market. There aren't too many in existence, but likewise there's not much demand for them - it's a nice quaint display piece to have. Linthart has one - he'd know as much as anyone:

The total on the BBTS My Account screen includes shipping.

The $1000 threshold is only on the goods and does not apply to the shipping costs.

Thanks! The box is definitely customised, but I'm thinking the toy itself is probably the 'Classics' Starscream mailaway from the 2009 Generations book. It's hard to tell what the scale is, but if it's not that then I'm guessing it would be a knockoff, maybe of Smallest Transforming Starscream or the KO by 'King'.

Speaking of Amazon JP, I just placed an order (pre-ordered a bunch of TFs coming out over the next few months, missed out on Legends Arcee by an hour or two thanks to doing housework first :( ) with them for the first time today, and haven't gotten a Payment ID email yet. So I've not read the new IDW comics since Dark Cybertron Finale (chapter 12?) (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/...And_the_Damage_Done:_Dark_Cybertron_Finale). Now I've got what I think is everything up to date at the moment. But I don't want to read anything in the wrong order and spoil it for myself :D

So my question is, is this the order I should be reading it in:

First Windblade 1 - 4
Then More than Meets the Eye #28 to #36~ OR
Robots in Disguise #28 to #36~ (with 35 and 36 being the onyx interface)
And lasty the Drift Mini Series, which I gather can be read at any stage?

Does MTMTE and RID cross over at any stage or can I read them freely without spoiling anything? I don't want to read the wiki pages of them, as I'm afraid I'll spoil something for myself like last time :D

I just did that. I hadn't read anything since Dark Cybertron until last week. Now I'm all caught up. I read them in step (ie, RID #29 then MTMTE #29. RID #30 then MTMTE #30 and so forth). Windblade is kinda a stand alone that I read first but haven't read Drift yet. They don't cross over much but the references about Megatron will be better understood if you're reading them in step.

Paulbot
10th January 2015, 10:19 PM
That order should be fine. One of the RID issues is a sequel of sorts to the Windblade series so as long as you read that series first you're fine.

The first issue of all three post Dark Cybertron cover some of the same setting up the new status quo events but otherwise nothing crosses over between the two main books.

MTMTE has flashbacks that preceed RID but they are flashbacks so can be read later.

We don't know yet exactly when Drift will fit into continuity. No obvious point yet.

All of my Matrices (is that correct???) have small opening on one side of the Matrix housing and a larger opening on the other side. What is that meant to represent?

I can't remember a specific point in G1 where the glowing part of the Matrix shrunk. (But I do remember it being completely empty)

If that was directed at me, I'm referring to the MP-10 mould. Although the MP-1 mould was similar (in the sense that the two sides had different "amounts" of the matrix showing), it was just articulated as well (to open).

Krayt
12th January 2015, 09:18 PM
The original matrix in the movie has a small opening in the back of the matrix. So the large gem side filling most of the opening is the front.

Some of the shots show a near fully enclosed backing, others like there is a little port/window in the back, but nothing shows it to be solid.

The definitive need for a clear through matrix probably came from MP-01 needing to shine his light through it

Not a question, but a pre-emptive answer to a potential question...

Seibertron have posted this rumour (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/pictures-from-super-festival-67-possible-pretender-starscream-reissue/31968/) speculating that there might be a reissue Pretender Starscream coming soon. I find this highly unlikely. First of all, the Japanese text with the image says "Please take a commemorative photo." You'll notice that face on Starscream's Pretender shell is blank, so it looks more like the template for a standee where you can stick your face through and pretend to be Pretender Starscream's shell and have someone else take a photo of it. Secondly, Pretender Starscream was never released in Japan (only the robot on its own), and Takara(TOMY) rarely reissues G1 toys that weren't originally part of its market; rare exceptions include Gears, Omega Supreme and Sky Lynx; but these were characters who appeared in the G1 cartoon, so Japanese fans would already be familiar w/ them. Pretender Starscream has never appeared in the Japanese G1 cartoon or manga series.

If TakTOM were going to reissue a Pretender, I'd love to see them reissue Metalhawk (as it'd be the only way I'd get one :p).

On the left hand side under the heading "Quick Solutions", there is a link called "Contact Us".

I find it's 50/50, nearly every second order my packaging is ruined in someway. So I just expect it now, as they do nothing to compensate. Well at least not so far, and I've ordered a lot. Do you know if they'e planning on using some of those funds to purchase a licence from Hasbro? I was curious because I noticed that one of the people on their team is apparently in charge of intellectual property, which led me to wonder if these toys are legitimately licensed or not. Not sure how reliable this source (http://www.hisstank.com/gi-joe-news/other-14/play-with-this-too-company-launch-and-upcoming-kickstarter-campaign-13317/) is, but it appears like it's something they will aim for. From the sounds of things, it appears like they will be going ahead whether that acknowledgement from Hasbro occurs or not:

In 2015, Play With This Too will continue to engage with potential licensors to bring official products based on existing brands to market. Later that same year, Play With This Too will begin to offer full service design and manufacturing, as well as intellectual property development for delivery over Transmedia networks.

Still, even if they believe the chances of successfully obtaining the licence will be slim, it's a good step forward and may set a precedence - both for other third party producers to attempt to gain licencing, and for Hasbro to consider in an attempt to re-capture a broader market.

Angry Archer did state in this interview with Vangelus (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0mxP_ykuro) that Hasbro's design team does not consider or keep track of offerings by third party producers. Whether or not that message is just old corporate-speak because he's got a fiduciary duty to convey will be impossible to verify.

I'm just wondering about the Tankor from BM. I've heard people say he is a troop builder character, so since I have a Hasbro and a Takara version of the new Deluxe mould I can justify having both on show. Some can have a residual chemical smell, depending on how sealed they are and how much paint is on them.

The RID Tiny Titans had a strong smell to them, and being in sealed bags didn't help.

Question for our resident Japanese readers. This is the box for Legends Rattrap and clearly names the character as Rattrap not Rattle in English. Does it refer to him as Rattle or Rattrap in the Japanese text?

From what I've read, English names are western versions, Japanese are the Japanese names.

The katakana there clearly says Rattoru, the closest thing they have to saying Rattle. I think all of their Legends line are like that.

Yup. Also, the English "Transformers" logo is in a G1 style font, whereas the Japanese "Transformers Legends" font is using the Japanese Beast Wars font (http://www.jp.playstation.com/software/title/8tnu010000002v2h-img/8tnu010000002v4g.jpg). ;)

Does anyone know where I can find a translation of the manga in Generations 2014 Volume 1 - Shouki s manga? I just got my Shouki toy and book, and would like to understand why he has an autobot logo in train mode but a Decepticon logo in shuttle form. Similarly for the Masterpiece Controverse story at the end of the book.

I tried the Google translate app, but it doesn't support Japanese :(

I've not seen a full translation, but I can answer your main question. Shouki has a Decepticon symbol in shuttle mode because he (an Autobot Trainbot) and Daniel are in disguise as the Decepticon Skystalker and his shuttle (http://www.tfu.info/1989/Decepticon/Skystalker/skystalker.htm) (well the Japanese version called Thunder Arrow technically).

Anyone ever get a Transformer that smells bad? My Legends Whirl I got on Wednesday smells terrible, its some sort of plastic, chemical or paint smell. Really strange. I hope that like a new car smell it will fade, but I'm thinking of emailing BBTS to let them know incase I have to return it.:(

One member of another forum (I think he's posted here too under the name Burn) had the same issue with his Whirl, not sure if it was the Legends or Hasbro version though

Ahh, that makes so much sense now Paulbot. I had a vague feeling of recognition looking at the toy, but couldn't place it. Never thought to compare it with Micromaster Skystalker. It actually makes sense now :)

There were discussions about Shouki's dual homages in the News topic (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=18474&highlight=shouki). Not sure about a translation of the story yet, but someone at Allspark or SydneyY on TFW are the likely ones to do it.

I don't think we saw any Generations releases between waves 1 and 3 of FOC (I've seen Optimus, Shockwave and Starscream I stores, no one else from the FOC series) and Combiner Wars

Thundercracker was in the second wave of "comic book" Deluxes at the end of 2013, and we didn't get any of the Comic book Deluxes here.

The RID cartoon today has sold me on getting the toys even tho they don't fit my collecting rules. (rules are made to broken, right?)

What are the differences between TAV and RID paint wise and is the TAV all Warrior class (+ figures from other lines) or do they have some smaller figures?

Paulbot
21st February 2015, 06:52 PM
TAV and RID toys look pretty much the same from the promo pics. They have Fixit in the TAV line that's a one step changer in the Hasbro releases, otherwise all warriors (or Deluxes from other lines).

The RID toys are begging for some more paint apps, little highlights and such, but haven't seen pics to show TAV does that.

The ones that are done by Ocean Designs, they have been selling them online for a while now. Might not be official as they say, but have the hasbro logo on them. This is a pic of them.

According to Ryan the owner of Seibertron they are not official and are using Hasbro's logo, etc without permission. It was said on a recent Seibertron podcast (sorry I don't know which number it was). If I recall right he spoke with Joel from BBTS who refused to go on record that they are official. Hasbro has said nothing about them being official.

I thought they might not have been released by Hasbro as there is no imstructions for the placement of the stickers, have check multiple sources to find something on these and have found nothing for them. So it looks like you have to guess where they go.:(

Is it safe to say that the IDWverse and aligned continuity are separate to the Multiverse? What are my fellow members thoughts on this?

Paulbot

They are all part of the Transformers Multiverse.

IDWverse has recently been pulling (bad) stuff in from the Aligned-verse, and both are alternate versions of the original G1 group of alternate realities.

I don't but I've nearly purchased them several times, what are your thoughts on their quality and how well they improve the figures appearance?

that's interesting, as the listings on BBTS (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=OCD10007&mode=retail)specifically call them out as official.

I am sure i read somewhere that hasbro does not consider the aligned continuity part of the multiverse?
I will ask google to see where i read that.

Also doesn't the multiverse take into consideration of singularities?

edit: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Multiverse see notes down the bottom

I think the original point of the "multiverse" when it was developed by Simon Furman, was just the most plausible way of linking to ANY universe of Transformers that was needed to justify the use of conflicting toy characters or plot concepts in a particular story... EVEN if some entity like an unnamed/uncredited Hasbro employee says that a particular story universe is NOT part of the multiverse at that particular time.
(meaning, if someone says their story doesn't apply from the perspective of their new story universe, it can still work from the perspective of whoever is writing about the multiverse... in case those other authorised/licensed writers ever need to tap into that story, its concepts or its characters later - so that from one story universe (the multiverse) you can see and access the other, but not from the other direction... like a one-way mirror)

As for the stickers - I think asking Hasbro HK would be the only way to find out for sure if they are legit. There are just too many "reliable" sources that are saying yes AND no, to know for sure... and we've seen how good knockoffs can be with their packaging, so what's stopping a non-toy item from having counterfeit fineprint on their packaging.

They do look good on the MP's, but they are like water transfers which i found are very delicate. They are on a white backing with the clear sticker on top, which you have to cut out, place and then pull off the clear sticker. But they do improve the look of the MP's a great deal with the soundwave stickers they are the mainly the printing on the sides with the volume control and output jacks, ect. When in robot mode they are on the bottom of the feet so you really don't see them. Overall if you have the patience they do look good.

Great feedback, thank you. I feel that prowls robot mode could handle a few extra decals.

Anyone here have all of the Club's Animated figures? I can't afford the full set so I'm wondering if there are any standouts of the 11 released so far I absolutely should try and get?

I do, I'm probably not a great reference though since they hold great nostalgia for me, it was my first Botcon. :o

What other animated figures do you have?
What animated figures do you prefer?
How do you feel about doubles of a mold?
Have you read the convention comic? that will probably effect how you feel about them.
