Lol that's exactly what brought me to ask the question! I took off the helmet and... gah!

I was thinking maybe the hasbronians couldn't be bothered making a bigger mold or something? ... I dunno I'm a noob.

They are all suppossed to swap, and in the Japanese Series different heads "grant" different powers. Plus, as it's a part to be lost, the replacement Japanese exlusive heads need to fit all the figures too....

Same reason for the Powermaster engines, and the spare ones that were available for them as well.

Luckily they actually made another headmaster for Fort Max.... could you picture him with Spike and just an extra helmit? *shudders*

GoktimusPrime

*nods* That's also why all the Transtectors (bodies) have tech spec meters which differ depending on which Nebulan you binary bond to it - hence they need to be a universal size. And yeah, as SilverDragon pointed out - continuity wise it also makes sense because they're all meant to be human-sized Nebulans (who are meant to be non-Terran humans (comics), near-humans (cartoon) or human-sized robots (animé)); so the canon also justifies the small size.

Fortress Maximus' Spike is also the same size, hence why he needs to bond to Cerebros to make the head big enough for Maximus' body.

Here's a random one for you,

i've got my eye one a genuine (this time its actually real) G1 Optimus Prime MIB.
the box is in seriously great condition for its age but the only thing that bugs me, well what i think bugs me; is that because its from canada, its got both French and english text.

do you think this should lower is value and hopefully buying price because its not an american box? unfortunately the seller does not state such fact and only found out when he sent me better photos.

not to be racist or anything like that but does international language on items like this bother you?

I know what you mean. I'm asian myself but I feel that the japanese G1's have a cheap feel to them in comparison to the US G1 boxes. Quite the contrary though, I reckon the jap g1's are generally more expensive and rare:p

I suppose it varies with the collector

In the worlds before Primacron (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Primacron), primal chaos reigned. Heaven sought order, but the phoenix can fly only when it's feathers are grown. The four worlds formed again and yet again, As endless aeons wheeled and passed. Time and the pure essences of Heaven, the moistures of the Earth, and the powers of the Sun and the Moon all worked upon a certain rock - old as creation, and it magically became fertile... Elemental forces caused the egg to hatch. From it then came a stone Primacron... The nature of Primacron was irrepressible!

There's a little bit of Denny Crane in Kup. Like Denny, Kup is old school, past his prime, held in high regard for his past actions, can't and won't be stopped, maybe going a little nuts at times, has a close friendship with Hot Rod (like Denny's with Alan Shore) and I'm sure Kup is pro-gun.

I was wondering, with the countless reissues, KO's and reimaginings of G1 optimus prime, what do people think of his worth a few years down the track?

With hundreds of AFA original G1 Primes and hundreds more loose/mib in circulation around the world, will this guy ever see a sizeable increase in vintage value again?

Also, comparing this to the rarer (imo) classic G2 Prime, will this black trailored release ever see a value surpassing his 84` counterpart?

Despite all the recreations he will still be a great childhood memory, and one that can be obtained by all.

Who really cares except scalpers?

Despite being quite gaudy and garish it's 'value' will probably go up due to it not being reissued or knocked off for aforementioned reasons.

Demand keeps G1 Prime prices high and although his G2 toy is technically rarer, it has no where near the same level of demand so they go for cheaper.

ive always loved transformers since i was a kid a good 15yrs ago.

id love to own a predaking, bruticus, devastator, menasor, defensor and superion to a lesser extent. pretty much all the combiners and just plain cool ppl like megatron, astrotrain, soundwave etc.

how would i go about obtaining these transformers? what would be the going price of these?

Hello and welcome

The combaticons/Bruticus are being re-released this year, so your in luck:)

Soundwave as well, but i doubt it will have an Australian release, there was a reissue of it a few yrs back at Toys R Us.

The rest you would have the best luck at toy fairs or Ebay

i think someone on this forum has a Megatron in box for sale

if its being re-released does that mean you could pick one up from a target,k mart etc. or would only specialist shops have them?

is the best way to keep up to date with releases by just checking out these shops regularly?

I suggest you dont buy it from BBTS if you do intend to get it. Somewhere like toy-wave.com or robotkingdom.com or hlj.com will give you a better shipping rate than BBTS

and no they wont be in retail, not unless you live somewhere like Japan or Singapore etc :)

Bruticus is relased at the end of July this year for your own information :)

as for your other combiner wants, your probably looking at predaking to be your most expensive, but getting them 100% complete will cost more too. looks like US ebay will be your biggest friend for a while :P

noobaking: FYI it is forbidden for Hasbro to sell TakaraTOMY's Transformers in Australian retail stores and vice versa for TakaraTOMY to sell Hasbro's TFs in Japanese stores, unless they have sought permission from each other (e.g.: Hasbro's release of Masterpiece Ultra Magnus and Convoy w/ trailer in Target). So basically any time you want a Japanese Transformer, as blackie said - you can either purchase it from a retail store in Japan, or order it online. You can also purchase them from local import stores too; there's a few in Sydney such as Silly Dream, Games Infinity (although they're a rip off) and one in the Capitol Square building etc. If you come along to the next Sydney CBD fan meet we can show you where these stores are located. :)

Yeah... but away from those machines. When you go up the escalators take a left. Not sure if they have any G1 reissues there or not. Oh, you may notice some toys that look like G1 reissues near the Gashapon machines but don't be fooled - they're fakes.

unlikely. Remember that in Japan, English language movies are considered to be foreign language movies, which means that they come out quite late there. The first TF movie came out in Japanese cinemas around... Aug/Sep? Ditto the UK for some odd reason (poor UK TFans are always getting shafted :()

As for Targetmaster Scourge, I agree with liegeprime - and it's not so much about the depth of the gun holes but the width. Targetmaster Hot Rod's fist and engine holes are wider to accomodate the Nebulan compared to those holes on the original toy.

All 1987 HM and TM appear in the US season 4..... was one big 60ish minute toy ad....

only the non-rerelease figures were in the Japanese Headmaster Series..... So all the HM'swere there, But not the TM's Hotrod, Kup, Blurr, Cyclonus and Scourge. Jap TM's Artfire and Stepper weren't in the cartoon either.

1988, No US cartoon, but the Headmasters were all in the cartoon in the Japanese colours.... and the gretest TM of all of course, the SEACONS!!!!

It was nothing to do with Neil Ross, who arguably voiced more characters in The Rebirth than he did in the rest of his Transformers career (Sixshot, Pointblank, Crosshairs, Fracas, Monzo. Bonecrusher and Hook were in it too, but I can't remember if they spoke). I believe Springer even disappeared before The Rebirth - he wasn't around for the last couple of episodes of Season Three either. Presumably, with a zillion Season 4 characters to introduce, there was no need for unnecessary earlier Transformers other than the ones who became Target/Headmasters and the ones who served the plot. Also, he would have complicated and gotten in the way of Arcee and Daniel's love story. Plus, the cartoon never really needed a reason for characters randomly appearing and disappearing - continuity's not exactly its strong point:

I don't know anything about reissue releases, but I do know HLJ is a great place to make an order! Just be sure to follow their set rules and everything runs smooth. Doesn't take much really - just set up an account with em and they'll take you through it step by step. Ask fellow ozformer kup if you need additional info.

I also suggest putting your idea out there to other sydney siders, I'm sure there's someone willing to do a group order with you to cut your shipping in half :)

hi guys. im going to go ahead and order the reissue bruticus from hlj.com seems to be the cheapest.

just wondering if anyone has dealt with this company before?

also how often they do release encore reissues?

i seems they released predaking in 2004. would anyone have a guess to when the next one would be. if ever?

Bruticus is being reissued in the encore line, whereas predaking was not.
Bruticus will be released at the end of July, around the 25th.
Noone knows what they will release next untill they announce it :)
although, the ideas are either devestator or superion

Has anyone ever seen or heard of a BTS trailer knock off?
I bought what looks to be a pretty legitimate MISB BTS trailer for classics prime but the shop owner sold it to me for only 35SGD (~31AUD)....
so im wandering if its just some shop in singapore that is selling things for cheap-cheap or he sold me a knock off...
To compare, RK is selling it for 50USD not including shipping...

On a similar note, if anyone was worried about shortages for henkei red alert and smoke screens, they are selling butt loads of it in singapore at the moment for only 30SGD (~26AUD)!!!...

Sorry dude, i forgot to mention that i've maxed out my check in and carry on luggage space with just 1 day's worth of TF shopping!!!! sales on TF items, great exchange rates... my wallet and luggage was doomed from the moment i stepped foot into the plaza.

i'll see if i can squeeze it in, but i wouldnt get your hopes up at this stage.
I just wanted people to be aware that TFs are pretty cheap and abundant here just in case you have a friend that can post it back to you...

i even met the ebay seller 'anglo' who normally sells the really high end vintage TFs...which i was stunned when they showed me their notorious MIB grand max in person.....

Rather than start my own thread, I'd just like to know some of your experiences with Auspost when delivering parcels.

Sometimes two of my packages (let's say one from the UK and one from the US) arrive at approximately the same time in oz. Now god knows that I go nuts waiting for my packages...if one of them is delivered, would it be worth asking the postwoman/man if she or he has the other one in the van?

I've only ever asked 3 times and they always say no. However, ONCE - they actually returned (the same postman) two hours later with another package that I was expecting.

I've also had domestic and international packages delivered by separate couriers in the same day, but that's different.

Anyone else like to shed some light on the question?

I don't know anything about reissue releases, but I do know HLJ is a great place to make an order! Just be sure to follow their set rules and everything runs smooth. Doesn't take much really - just set up an account with em and they'll take you through it step by step. Ask fellow ozformer kup if you need additional info.

I also suggest putting your idea out there to other sydney siders, I'm sure there's someone willing to do a group order with you to cut your shipping in half :)

Do Outback, Pipes and Tailgate have different Anglicized Japanese names? (e.g. Bumble vs. Bumblebee, Cliff vs. Cliffjumper, Wave vs. Swerve)

griffin
11th June 2009, 12:42 PM
Looks like they had the same names:
http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Japanese_ID_number_list

C-59, C-60, C-61.

Looks like the listing was adhered to for any reissue since Gen1, as it doesn't look like there were any double-ups - because a lot of the reissues used the 50+ numbers that didn't have 'C' or 'D' in front of them (which were added from their second year as they must have realised the numbers were going to blow out real fast in a few years).

The good thing with that list is you don't even need to click on the link to see who the JP named character is, just hover the mouse over the name.

griffin

It's actually an error. It should be C-00 (and should be slotted in with the 'C' section of the list), as it was the JP release of the Cybertron Primus toy. But since it was released in Gen1 packaging/biocard, and after the Galaxy Force toyline ended, it is technically considered a Gen1 Universe toy, like all the Ehobby figures in the 50+ number range.
Even though it was the second official Primus toy in Japan, it was the only Primus toy given an actual TakaraTomy TFs ID number.

I didn't think the ramps for Silverbolt and Onslaught could be used outside of their third mode, as a launching ramp for the smaller team vehicles.
THey were a feature in the JP toys, with a spring-loaded feature in the toy to launch the toys down the ramp (that attached to the toy), but the Hasbro versions removed the spring feature and yet still included the ramp with the toy for no real reason or featured gimmick.

I think there would be some conjecture as to which toy universe it belongs to, according to fans, but if you go by packaging/biocard universe over toy-design universe, I guess it could count as a Gen1 toy. I personally wouldn't, as it would just stand out way too much visually (its design) from the rest of the Gen1 toys.

Just correcting my earlier posting - seeing the packaging picture, there is no 'C' next to the '00', so the wiki listing is correct, but their linked page is incorrect by labelling it as 'C-00'. Unless of course the biocard has it, and they are both correct...
Hmm, gotta keep reminding myself that wikia should only be used as a guide, not an accurate source...

The site http://www.tfu.info/ is a good source of information like this.

For the original character there was:
Wheeljack (http://www.tfu.info/1984/Autobot/Wheeljack/wheeljack.htm)
Wheeljack (decoy)
Wheeljack (Classic reissue - early 90s)
Action Master Wheeljack
Alternators Wheeljack
Spychanger Wheeljack

There's also Armada Wheeljack (http://www.tfu.info/2003/Decepticon/Wheeljack/wheeljack.htm) (an Autobot turned Decepticon, different character), Energon Downshift (http://www.tfu.info/2004/Autobot/Downshift/downshift.htm) (who looks like Wheeljack), Cybertron Downshift (a new body for the Energon version, still has a Wheeljack-like head).

I believe Wheeljack is one of the original toys that Hasbro/Takara says they've lost the mould for and can't reissue.

It was that hot/cold water technology that was all the rage in that period of the early 90's. In my experience it was never that accurate it when it changed, it would be quite a slow bleeding process. Also whatever the chemicals used seem to die quickly and the gimmick would cease to work.

Lol yeh I had one when I was a kid. Far from what they had us seeing with those crazy commercials at the time I'll tell you that much. Mine had to sit underwater for hours before anything remotely exciting happened. Half of the car hood changed colour...that was about it.

As for the G2 dinobots, I believe the silver (or g1 style) g2 dinobots, the blue grimlock and green slag + snarl tend to go for cheaper-than-G1 dino's. Maybe $25-$40 loose complete each?

I'm pretty sure the red g2 variants of slag + snarl go for a bit higher, with the torque grimlock being the rarest at about $60US+ ?

That's my understanding anyway. Maybe try the "What's a good price?" thread.

...do the G2 Dinobots go for less than their G1 versions?

Firstly, the price of G1 dinobots fluctuates pretty wildly... especially if you look on ebay UK. You could assume that a normal G1 dinobot (excluding swoop) goes for roughly $100 including postage in reasonable condition and complete with weapons... Usually G2 dinobots are cheaper than $100, but hardly ever come with nice/ complete stickers. The main problem with G2 is that most american sellers that sell these don't ship out of america.

There is some discussion on this here;

THe recent set of 3 (packaged I think) only went for like US$150, which was really cheap for fairly rare JP figures, but the demand just isn't there because they were straight redecos (unlike the Headmaster Heads, which were new moulds).
I think they are fairly rare, because I don't see them very often on ebay, but when they do show up, they don't fetch much.

Question about Scale.

In the Beast Wars show, the end of Season 2, when TM Megatron is inside the Ark and we see him in comparison to G1 figures, he looks so small. Also in other parts of the show, the local "ape" creatures are supposed to be the human race right ?

So does this mean that in the Beast Wars era, Transformers have been scaled down in size to be just slightly larger than humans ?

Then again, I've never been one to wet my toys to find out if it does anything interesting, so who knows what wonders warm water will bring.

As far as I could tell, he didn't look any different from the first film.

The RotF toy is apparently more accurate to the movie design than the first leader toy, so that may be a justification if you care about show accuracy.

Let's give him a fan name! I say we call him Scorpulator (The larger classes are getting worse in terms of quality and value for money in the past few years.

Function: Red shirt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redshirt_(character)). ;)

Strength: 2 Intelligence: 6 Speed: 1 Endurance: 3 Rank: 1 Courage: 7 Firepower: ∞

Yes, with a firepower of ∞ he could've easily vapourised those other Constructicons, but with a speed of 1 the other Constructicons easily tore him apart before he could even draw his weapon! GG!! :p

A google search came up with some possible motoring terms, derived from Grand Touring or Gran Taurismo. There was a Pontiac listing of 'Grand Touring Sport', which could be an acronym badging, like you see on the backs of some cars. Perhaps the Hasbro people use it because it sounds racey.

Blu ray movies are seriously awesome on a great entertainment system, was hoping they "remastered" the 86 classic enough to justify the $35 purchase. But I suppose it is wishful thinking for a "drastic" improvement - it's 22 years old :(

How are "points of articulation" determined? Is this just the number of transformable joints/limbs/parts ? I think I read somewhere that G1 Rodimus Prime has only 2 points of articulation, does this mean one point for each of his arms?

griffin
6th July 2009, 12:33 AM
I think it's joints that are used for moving the body parts, but not necessarily required for the transformation. For Rodimus you have the two shoulder joints, but you probably could count his ankles and neck, as his head and feet are moveable. Even if that mobility is intended for the transformation, those joints give you the option to move/pose those limbs, albeit rather limitedly.
Maybe look on the tfwiki.net to see if they have any articles on articulation or poseability.

I can't think of any site off the top of my head, but I've seen quite a few interesting articles on the topic over the years. As a basic summary, the 1984-85 Transformers toys were existing toys (or toys already in the pipeline) that were given a coherent storyline by Hasbro. Most of the 1986 'movie' toys with the exception of Ultra Magnus were designed by Floro Dery as cartoon characters first and then turned into toys. Powermaster Optimus Prime, the Classic Pretenders and half the Action Masters were some of the first examples of existing characters turned into new toys. Most of the toys since 1986 other than the conspicuous exceptions (2007 Movie, ROTF etc) were designed as toys first. Animated seems to have been a product of Derrick Wyatt's basic designs turned into Hasbro products.

Does anybody know the difference(s) between Galaxy Force Vector Prime and Cybertron Vector Prime?

From TFWiki:

http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Vector_Prime

Vector Prime has some significant differences between the Takara and Hasbro releases. Takara's release uses a matte gray plastic with a lighter, burgundy-tinted brown, uses firmer plastic for his clear-blue parts, and has more intricate paint applications. Hasbro's release has a higher-contrast color scheme of white with chocolate-brown, more flexible clear-blue plastic (for safety reasons), and less-intricate paint applications.

Care to elaborate with pics what you mean? Ive transformed trippy and giga only a couple of times without an instruction so I can't tell what exactly your having trouble with? the tail end with the double guns are the only ones that are really what I find very tight to pull out. other than that he's pretty much split and press the tab on his hip to spread the legs and 180ş the head viola base mode.

Step 5 of base mode however says I have to pull up that base thing out of his chest (so it becomes a raised platform) to attach the large purple cannon. I can't get this piece out. As with all my new g1's though, i never try to force transformations out to avoid breaking anything. Do I just need to muscle it out as well?

Is this the same thing with all the other Japanese series?

Paulbot

Yes and it's the same for the all the Japanese series, but "Headmasters" still actually features old characters (Rodimus, Galvatron, Wheelie, Daniel etc) in major roles. The later series (Masterforce, Victory) don't show any of the characters from the G1 cartoon (except very rare cameos) and generally exclude anything not part of that year's toyline.

Is it an express item? Because I've had nothing but trouble from that dodgy service. I've always found registered/priority and even standard airmail to be so much more reliable and cheaper, even if you have to wait an extra couple of days.

I hate express tracking to bits, it's only good half the time. Every other time items are either apparently "in transit" (which for some reason, is a 6 day process sometimes) or sitting in customs. I had to wait 2 weeks for my g1 ultra magnus bc they wouldn't release it.

So basically, given that piece of tracking info you've got - anything can happen. If it's outdated, maybe it's already been passed onto the auspost couriers or still sitting in the sorting centre.

Have you tried checking your tracking number using the host country postal service website (i.e usps.com if it's from the states) as well as the australia post tracking page? They usually have different results, which can sometimes let you know where it REALLY is.

Take it back to the store you bought it from for a replacement. You are entitled to one if a product is faulty, especially from just one play with it.

I have tracking on an item which has as it's current status "30 July 2009 Australia Pending customs inspection". How long from this status does it usually take to receive the item? Do you think there's any chance it would get to my PO BOX by 9am tomorrow or would that be wishful thinking?

I usually ring Auspost rather than rely on the website.
Nearly always get a much clearer answer on when, where and all the other questions I need to have answered.

Thanks for the tips. I've had to use RK's Hong Kong Post tracking. It's now "in transit" but my post office box closed at 930am so I will have to wait until Monday to pick them up, assuming they will get there today.

I'm a little confused about the EZ/Legends Devastator.

It is a japanese exclusive, or will the seperate components be released here in Australia?

For now it's only out in Japan, but it will probably be released by Hasbro later.

I read that Hasbro was asked about it at Botcon, and said that they have nothing planned, but if it happens, it will be in 2010.

Just viewing Rampages' new acquistions and it made me wonder: are the new ROTF Robot Replicas available locally? I've not noticed them in the shops or many people posting acquistions of them.

griffin
3rd August 2009, 01:58 PM
I haven't heard anyone seeing them locally. They aren't high demand figures, and retailers here (at Toyfair) probably questioned the point of having non-convertable Transformers (r) priced the same as convertable Transformers of the same size. THe gimmick with Gravity Bots sold themselves to retailers, despite the pricing, but Robot Replicas were shelfwarmers with TF1, so probably were avoided by retailers this time around.

I know its a long shot but does anyone know any online stores to pick up classics ultra magnus and city commander set? I can probably find the city commander set, most of the battle is finding a damn ultra magnus figure.

Does anyone else think that TFA Samurai Prowl is completely and utter pwned by the frist regular TFA Prowl?
Is there some sort of trick to get the armour/sidecar to stay in place on his back in 'bot mode?
I've only had him a day but I am less than impressed by the armour that just seems to hang on in a heaven-forbid-you-should-actually-touch-him type fashion.

I'm thinking about trying to get some Armada toys when I eventually end up on eBay. They just look so darn fun to play with. I'm curious about what are considered to be the better toys from that era.

I'm contemplating Jetfire, Starscream, and possible Superpants Prime at the moment, mainly for design-related reasons.

GoktimusPrime

Most of the boxed Armada toys aren't that fun to play with. Their articulation is often hindered by being loaded with gimmicks. Superpants Prime is a block... nearly as bricky as Powermaster Optimus Prime, which by 2003 standards is atrocious. The automatic transforming trailer gimmick gets old quick. (-_-) Some of the Deluxes are okay (but not astounding). I actually find the most interesting toys from Armada were the Mini-Cons! :) They're like Micromasters but with better more contemporary engineering.

I think it's best to check out someone else's Armada toys before deciding on whether or not you want to collect them yourself. Try before you buy as they say. :)

+++++27 on the first sentence. +3 on the second one.. Armada IS all about minicons, and those little buggers are the only things going for the line.. as such buy minicons only instead :D

From the August Acquisitions thread:

No affiance, just wondering why everybody is out for the encore cassettes? Why not the originals, also why are people buying encore bruticus and not the originals? (Curious to know others personal opinions)
Convenience factor. Reissues are easier and cheaper to get. Easy as that. And in most cases the quality is fairly good. Bruticus would be exceptional because that mould's been overused since CR/RiD. For me, I already _have_ the original Combaticons, but I'm missing accessories and gestalt parts. Getting reissues is a LOT cheaper than if I tried to get all those individual accessories as originals. Also far less effort and time consuming too (hunting down little parts and accessories is a pain).

I like armada, might be the only one here who does :D

I'd recommend
Wheeljack
Demolishor
Hoist (or cyb Longrack)
Deluxe Prime
Tidalwave

I also like Scavenger (STOMP STOMP STOMP), but am probably the only one who does.

It did produce some good toys - I'm a fan of Wheeljack, Demolishor, Dx Prime and Longrack (once they got rid of the abysmal Minicon) myself. The cartoon, IMO, was dreadful - the comics were okay but I've never been much a comic person.

And yeah, you're probably the only one who likes Scavenger. I love his MiniCon (and nabbed one 2nd hand!).

So, what are considered to be the best Armada Mini-cons?

Well there's quite a lot actually - since minicons started in Armada but have been incorporated in other lines (Universe 1.0, Energon, Cybertron and Classics)
I just get all hehehe. but to start with you might wanna try... oh if you get the chance to get X dimension version ( basically recolours - same mold - Japanese versions - better paint jobs)

Air defense team - 2 planes and shuttle (like) which have the combined form of the Star Sabre
- X Dimension version has em in red and orange hues - combined form Fire Sabre
- Energon version has em with added stylings and in clear yellow color - Energon sabre

Air military Team - 3 planes which are 3ple changers - they each have a weapon alt mode besides plane and can be equipped to bigger bots as blades, guns, bladed shield...
- X dimension has em in mostly black stealth colours

Emergency team - Fire engine, police car and a double rotor copter - same as the Air military team have a 3rd mode which transforms them into weapons the other bigbots can use.

Overload - he's not sold as a minicon but he is. This guy has a big trailer which forms his armoured body. The minicon truck becomes the head and serves as the cab truck pulling the trailer - which also has a minirobot mode. This trailer can combine to Armada Prime to provide extra armour /firepower.

There's heaps of em but start with these guys and see if youll enjoy em. I have 93 of em :D almost a tenth of my collection population and I like em a lot....

I like the look of the air defence team, particularly the orbital plane one (Sonar?).

Thinking of which, of the recent Transformers with fist holes, can they hold the Star Sabre?
