Making Classics Constructicons less Emo and other Gestalts

Hi,

As many of you know, Hasbro doesn't appear to know what the heck its doing when repainting the Energon Gestalts as G1 tributes. They seem to get two or three right in a set and completely stuff up the other two for no apparent reason.

The Classics Devastator Set (Constructicon Maximus Repaint) came with a spot on colors for the figures that were to become Bonecrusher, Hook (yes, HOOK! ;)) and Scavenger but for some reason they gave Long Haul and Scrapper some very unConstructicon black and purple emo colors with barely a hint of green to suggest that they were constructicons. With those color schemes, they just didn't look G1 at all.

So I decided to pull apart the four smaller figures limb by limb and reassemble them so that I can approximate G1 Constructicon colors for all figures. I didn't have to do anything with Scavenger because his colors were just fine.

Just like the Constructicons, Hasbro made a similar 'ill' judgement when it comes to the Universe Aerialbots.

They are clearly intended to represent G1 characters and they succeeded with Slingshot (Yes! Slingshot ;)), Air Raid and to a lesser extend Silverbolt. However they completly screwed up Fireflight and Skydive by giving them colors that do not represent their G1 colors. Unfortunately unlike the Classics Constructicons, there is not much here to work with as the colors chosen for these two figures are completly out of place as far as representing the G1 Aerialbot characters.

Despite this major handicap, I tried my best to work with what I had:

Aerialbots Robot mode (Slingshot and Air Raid are fine but the colors of the other two hardly represent their G1 looks in robot mode because both Skydive and Fireflight have dominant reds but best I could do.

Aerialbots Jet mode (Here you can see a more true to G1 color scheme on the odd two but still far from perfect - Slingshot and Air Raid remain pretty good in their default colors)

I could improve Fireflight and Air Raid by using parts from Energon Skyshadow (the original release colors) which thanks to the man by the same name I will be able to do :D

Anyone have any suggestions for better configurations? Bruticus appears less flexible than the Devastator and Superion Maximus molds.

each pair has it's merits but the second pair wins in terms of visual appeal.

I agree. I think it's the only pair where the colour flows and looks like a complete bot instead of 2 stuck together

To be honest they're all equally rubbish at G1 representation. No fault of your own mind you, the mold it's deco style just drowns out any G1 vibes I might recieve.

I was thinking the same thing. However even though the alt modes work great the way that the front and much of the body makes the legs kind of change what the 'Powerglide' robot would look like. He would be like an 'upside down' powerglide.

Do you have a Terradive? I was thinking that - like G1 Fireflight - he has lots of white and a bit of pale blue. Terradive's wings, tailfins, shoulders, waist and goggles would be useful for really Fireflighting up your robot.
