Monopoly the Movie?

Surely this is one of the weirdest movie ideas ever. A movie based on a boardgame concept, directed by famed Ridley Scott (of Blade Runner), and released by Universal - how could you make a serious movie from that?

Monopoly is a Hasbro brand, through their division 'Parker Brothers'.

If computer games rarely work as movies, what chance does a boardgame have?

Clue (Cluedo) is a good movie. Not a good TV series, but a good movie.

And there's a funny comic strip in an old issue of Toyfare that casts the board games in a world like the comic series Fables, where "the Adversary" is the guy from the Monopoly board :D
